Dollzone Baby BB 23cm - 29.5cm discussion part 2

May 22, 2014

1. [IMG]

New thread spam!

2. oh well me too then! :XD:

3. I want in on this new thread spam! :3

4. Yay spam! Now to just wait for the rest of the gang to filter over!

5. Hope it's ok to pop in here, but will the new 19cm dolls be on-topic for this thread?
I'd like to order one of those Ivy leaf-wing bodies sometime soon, to hybrid with my tiny pumpkin head piece.

6. It seems like they could have their own thread, since they are a totally different scale, but I think they have been discussed here previously.

My Star hybrid got some more soom hands today! I finally have some time to play with all my dolls at home this weekend, so expect dragon spam.

7. My other Mika's jeans came in! He looks so cute in them, with his blue hair - wig is a dz 1/4 wig, so too big for him (it fit my Freddy event head) but it's his keeper as he looks too cute in it I think :aheartbea Jeans are great - seem like newly made from an ebay seller, so just a couple days delivery time, and only ยฃ2.50 a pair! They post Worldwide too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251533071...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Their 'Ken' tops came in too, but are used so a bit grubby - I gave them a squeeze out in some tepid water with a drop of dish washing liquid, rinsed, squeeze-dried in a towel, now they're waiting to dry on a plastic box - I could put them inside a sock in the tumble drier and tie up the neck of the sock (so they don't end up in the filter covered in fluff!)
Poinsettia04 (etsy) have dispatched the girl's leggings and tops too - that's fast! They no longer need them, but I guess they'll make nice outfits for Winter, or pyjamas....

8. Hmm...new thread spam eh? How about a blushing progress photo?

9. wow that looks well organised Quiet and Insane - I look forward to seeing your finished work of art! :)

meanwhile here's Kitty (we have dropped the 'Miss' now she's fully grown) in her temporary clothing, just for decency's sake :aheartbea

10. Quiet - that's looking quite good so far!

Elve - She really is darling!

11. Cutiepi - D'awwww!! She's so cute, I love how she turned out!

12. Thanks everyone! :)
It's certainly been a learning experience for me - and it's not over yet - I need to learn how to suede joints to protect her blushing. To the tutorials I go! Eventually I will write up my own tutorial for other DZ dragon owners. ^^

13. When I did a body blush for a friend's doll I put thin pieces of moleskin into the sockets to protect the blushing. It also helped posability!

14. I've had a friend suggest hot glue - I looked up a couple of tutorials last night and some of them seem pretty solid so I'll give that a go.

15. Hot glue works for joints that need more friction, which definitely applies for the dragon hips, but I would think moleskin would be better to protect blushing. Hot glue adds a lot of friction to the joints, so they hold poses much better. I worry about the glue rubbing on the blushing unless you plan to pose very carefully.

16. thanks IzabethS :aheartbea

cutiepie that faceup is wonderful - love her! :D

Quiet and Insane my entire gang of 27cm needs glue sueding if I want to photograph them doing more than sitting there in a row :sweat I had never done glue-sueding before but my pink Mika (now owned by my son) drove me crazy till I did it - now he poses like a dream, and it was quite easy to do, although I made a bit of a mess of it, since he was my first attempt. I didn't dismantle the doll, just pulled the joints apart, squirted a bit of WARM glue (get a dual temperature glue gun as you need it on low setting for resin) into the 'cup' or socket of the joint, spread it with the nozzle of the glue gun (they are so tiny on these little dolls, you can't really use anything else) and it was dry almost instantly, although that depends on the room temperature. I got the glue all lumpy and it was a bit of a mess in some joints, but it peels off fairly easily so no harm done - just do it again! :) Now if only I could be bothered to do it again.....5 more times *_* The glue gun does drip so I put mine down on an old plate, in between use.

Meanwhile my 'gang' are finally all dressed! Tan Mika's top is a perfect fit, but strangely white Mika's is enormous - maybe it's not a 'Ken' top but an Action Man top? The pants are a perfect fit for both of them - really lovely quality too.

17. I just use a low temp hot glue gun to suede my dolls. Hot glue works great for increasing posing, but it won't do much to protect blushing because it wears out and you have to redo it. Moleskin would be the best to protect the blushing. There's some tutorials for it here even, we just need to find it again!

Most of my dolls are sueded, or at least the ones I've had the longest. Some need redoing, and many of the new ones haven't had the hot glue treatment yet. I don't take them apart either, I just pull the limb so I can expose the sockets.

18. I have moleskin in my dragon's hips, and it helps for posing for a while, but it gets smoothed out and needs to be replaced after a while. It would continue to protect blushing though, as long as its still soft on the surface.

I need to redo my dragon hips with hot glue, but his body isn't blushed, so it's just for posing and stability.

19. thanks cutiepie! Yes those eyes look lovely - I like the darker ring around them, it gives more definition :aheartbea I've spent most of the afternoon changing eyes too! Decisions decisions - it's so hard LOL - I was going squinty-eyed by the time I'd finished :XD:

20. Zeriya is very lovely Cutiepie! those blue eyes suit her well. :) haha Elve, eye decisions are always so hard! I hope that your own eyes arent too squinty feeling. I dont pop by here every often, if I do it's mostly just reading what people have to say... but thought i'd come out and share a picture of my Star that I took today~
[IMG]

21. LOLLL - that hair is too precious Mysteriousmage :XD: He looks fantastic! Is he wearing pants? I'd love to know how they fit!

I put bright turquoise eyes in my Star this afternoon - I've decided only Moon can be the Mori girl (got her wig in the mail now) - I'm really not sure how to style Star, or even if she is a he or a she! Although I keep calling her she, so I guess, in spite of appearances, she's a girl? Got absolutely NO clothing ideas for her though yet - I guess I could turn her back into Twinkle maybe? (on my flickr) :aheartbea She does have the look of a sulky 3 year old child LOL

22. You guys make my day <3 :love I love coming on here and seeing the different littles one, and of course my love for the dragons just keep getting stronger here XD you teases, all of you!
IzabethS - So pretty, the kitty isn't one I would own, but I LOVE looking at photos ^^ she always looks so sweet!
Quiet and Insane oh! Love the color! please please tell me how you restring them XD I want to send mine away for a body blushing but the stringing scare me XD
cutiepie - just happy sighing looking at her lol
Mysteriousmage- WOW WOW WOW! <3 now I don't know if I want my gurlzilla to be a boy XD Your's is so cool!
elve - I'm sure either way you make them, they are going to look fantastic!

23. Elve and Ballet: Thank you! hehe

I have a Moon as well and she's a girl~ I wanted Star to be a girl too but he just screamed "boy" at me when I got him home. lol

Elve, He's not really wearing pants per se.... I made some things to make it look like he's wearing pants... basically just two strips of fabric sewed together to cover his legs and then stitched them to a ribbon that I could tie around his middle. ^^; It works for something under his outfit, but wouldnt work just on their own I think. I'll try to get a picture maybe in the next few days to show you better what I'm talking about. Ooooo Turquoise eyes sounds wonderful! Do you have any pics?

Ballet: hehe I think that you will have to see if/when you get your's home. They generally speak for themselves. XD

24. Iwasteela – That makes sense, though I don’t know if I can get any moleskin down here. I’ve searched through all the local (and some not so local) fabric shops and they don’t have it. Are there any alternatives I could use? I might have to do that around Azrael’s right arm as well. I’ve already chipped the blushing! >.<

Elve – Aha! No one else mention using the glue gun on the low setting, thank you very much for that! I usually carpet the place in newspaper whenever I do anything even remotely artsy; mum would kill me if I got glue or paint or whatever else I’m using on the floor.

IzabethS – Back to the tutorials I go for a search! ^^

Cutiepie – Ooh, I like those eyes!

Mysteriousmage – Wow! Your Star looks awesome! Very fierce.

Ballet – I will be posting a detailed tutorial once she’s all done, don’t worry. Though, if it weren’t for my friend’s help I never would have had the courage to take her apart in the first place!

25. I get my moleskin from Target or the drug store. They sell it with adhesive backing so you can stick it in your shoes to prevent blisters. It is usually next to the insoles and other shoe/foot products.

I hope everything goes well with your blushing project! I want to see pics!

I only did the claws on my dragon body. I play with my dolls too much to be trusted with body blush. I'd spend a week to get it perfect and then screw it up immediately.

26. Oh! I can get some next time I'm in town! Thanks for that!
And don't worry, I shall post a few more progress photos once my internet rolls over...damn cap...

27. thank you Ballet :aheartbea

Mysteriousmage that's really clever with the 'false pants' idea! :) Well now my Star (who seems to be like a chameleon s/he changes so often!) is blonde again - I ordered another one of the same wig she wore in her incarnation as 'Twinkle' (on my flickr) But it's slightly different than the old one (which is my dz 1/4 Flora's wig) and the 'bun braids' don't fit under Star's flattened horns :sweat I guess it will fit Moon though - I've put it on another doll for now.... What I like about Star is the character in that face :D

28. Oh wow Elve! That blonde wig really suits Star. :D those eyes are real nice too. "he" kind of looks like a snobby rich dragon boy in your picture. hehe so much attitude!

29. thank you Mysteriousmage :aheartbea he is a real cutie, and seems to be a boy in that wig (for now LOL) That is in fact a faerie glen vintage Sindy doll top he's wearing! Strange how it fits - I just had it lying around and all the other tiny clothes taken, so that's what he had to put on - I think this is why we have the sulky face! :XD: His eyes came with my impldoll idol - I'm not sure what size they are, but they didn't really look right for a big hunk of a man!

Another pic of my lovely 1/4 sized Kitty/AoD hybrid - her clothes are dispatched now from Alices! :dance

30. Haha! I think the top suits him though. :D Even if he is grumpy about it. hehe~ Awww Your Kitty/AOD hybrid is very cute too! What kind of clothes did you get from Alice's? I'm still waiting for my clothes I ordered for my boy to ship....

31. thanks Mysteriousmage :aheartbea I've just checked and I only ordered the stuff from Alices 3 weeks ago! I have waited 6 weeks in the past, and usually it's around 4 weeks - I guess it depends how much you order, normally I order over $100 worth to get the free DHL shipping. This order with Kitty's clothes in is only a small one, so it got finished quickly I am guessing! It's a very sexy outfit as she's a very sexy Kitty :XD: Sadly I'll have to pad her bra out a bit though LOL - she's flat as a pancake!

32. 3 weeks is nice! i was kind of hoping that that's what my wait would be, but it's been 5 for me now. I ordered just enough to get the free DHL shipping as well. I didnt really need that much stuff... but i've been wanting to try some new things with my boy and couldnt help it. lol. Awww! are you going to share pics of your Kitty's outfit here or over in the AOD thread?? LOL do you have an older smaller chested body for her??

33. Mysteriousmage I will probably spam both threads with her :XD: She's on the small bust body - I got it from Alices Collections - no idea if it's an old model or not though as I have never bought midis from AoD before.

Meanwhile....my Poinsettia04 outfits (top and leggings) for each of the 3 Nyus arrived today! Only 3 weeks which is great - The leggings look perfect size for the skinny tiny, but the long sleeved tops look a bit too big - more normal YOSD size. I can't tell for sure as the SMELL almost knocked me out - mothballs!!! :sweat I've put them in a drawer as they were stinking the room out and I had no idea how to get rid of the (toxic) fumes! So an internet search tells me that a cup of white vinegar added to the washing water should remove the smell - HOPEFULLY - I know on Poinsettia's shop it says she has just moved house or something, and since the first batch of clothes I got from her last year didn't smell, I bet these were packed away with mothballs for the move *sigh* Better than bugs but it's a hassle getting the smell out - if indeed I can! I'm really sensitive to odors/chemicals so they've made me feel a bit wierd.....It's a good job my 3 girls aren't desperate for clothing anyway, since I already found them outfits in the clothes box :)

34. elve -I feel for you regarding the smell! :o I can't stand mothballs -they make me sick. If the vinegar works, please let me know! And I do want to see pictures of the new outfits.

I am still searching options for shoes for my crew. I have been watching utube tutorials on shoe making, and have also looked at Ken shoes as I had a pair that fit once. I got a pair of brown penny loafers coming to see about fit. If they do fit, it's only $20 for FIVE PAIRS of shoes! If they don't fit -another super long project having to make FIVE PAIRS (sob, sob) of shoes. Fingers crossed for a great fit!! Now that I think about it, I have six resin kids (one is ot for this thread), what was I thinking?!!

35. I confess most of my dolls are barefoot! I did buy some hujoo sneakers for my pink Mika last year, which were a good fit - there's lots of other styles too but I've not tried them as they are smaller than the sneakers, and I already have a box full of shoes which don't fit any doll! :sweat mimiwoo sell them http://stores.ebay.com/Mimi-Collect...84967319&_sid=108903569&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 But yes - 5 pairs is almost $50 :o I think mine will be staying barefoot for a while - well it is Summer! (Allegedly - if it stops raining and warms up a little!)

I'm still soaking the smelly clothes - I'm so busy doing all our laundry today I've not had time to wash them yet - I'm going to add detergent liquid and more cold water to the bowl they're in (which is about 2 inches of cold water plus around... 3 egg cups full of light vinegar (I didn't have white, and I couldn't wait!) Not sure how much vinegar I used - just tipped in what was left of the small bottle - we don't use it - I'm just glad I had some as I never buy it!

36. Oh Elve I am right there with you. I think only my two male dolls have shoes... which is sad :P Though, shoes for the fellas just seem to be cheaper. Thankfully my DZ Star is supposed to be barefoot what with the big dragon claws and what not :)

37. Have a progress shot of Valeriana:

38. Quiet and Insane, you should at the very least put your template/parts organizing sheet on your refrigerator when you're done. That's awesome.

39. looking forward to seeing the finished dragon Quiet and Insane - you are very creative (and brave!) compared to me - although I have managed to put my Moon's mori girl wig on today at least :daisy

As for the mothball smell in the poinsettia04 clothing, well it has GONE :dance but now the clothes need ironing and smell of vinegar LOL - So I am going to wash them again to get the vinegar smell out - it's only very faint, but I am finicky with smells - I also LOATHE ironing, so I'll have to try and remember how that's done too *_*

40. elve -Good luck, I hate ironing too. I seem to put IN wrinkles, rather than remove them. The Ken shoes I ordered (one pair) should arrive by Tuesday. The seller was so nice and included another pair I was looking at free of charge so I cantry both pairs. Fingers quadruple crossed they fit.:wiggle

41. Iwaseela - Don't worry, I'll be keeping all the templates I make and sticking them into my A3 notebook. I try and keep all my notes when it comes to pulling things apart. Not that I ever forget any of the details, I'm just paranoid that I will.

Elve - A wig is better than nothing!

42. thanks kurogane - I hope the shoes fit!
thanks Quiet and Insane :)

meanwhile mika and nyu spam - Bhikhu and Bhavni have had a disagreement - I've no idea why! :sweat

43. Squeeeee! A tan Mika and Nyu! :D

44. I absolutely love that tan Mika :aheartbea (Mika being my favourite sculpt) The tan resin seems a bit more 'grippy' too, so they haven't needed sueding, although maybe it will become smoother with use? Dollzone have I think changed the 'tan' again as well as the 'pink' though - I will find out in about a month as I have a tan doll on order! I do like the tan in that photo though - it's more of a light suntan, but it's very pretty :) They are both wearing wigs too big! She's wearing a 6-7 YOSD size one, and he's wearing a dz MIDI one! I like the oversized look though - makes them even cuter :XD:

ETA - I gave Star a makeover, and tried this old wig on her! :D I just can't help myself - I need to call her Flossie from now on :XD:

45. try wetting the clothes and spreading them flat to dry. (much like blocking a sweater) it should get rid of most if not all the wrinkles and you won't need to do nearly as much ironing!

any idea what the pink is changing to?

46. The pink is pinker, less creamier has it was in september...

DC pink skin 2013 - 2014 comparison par ❄Skimo❄, sur Flickr

September 2013 head, December 2013 body received one month ago. DZ and DC match (I received a DZ pink body the same color at the same time).

47. Elve!!! I absolutely adore the wig you have for Flossie!!! OMG!!!

48. thank you so much Mortifox :XD: yes she is my darling baby now - I can't stop squee-ing over her! It's a fa-tiao (ebay) wig I've had ages on another doll - size 6-7 - I didn't think it would fit her as her horns lay quite flat to her head, but I pushed the pigtails up to the middle and FORCED it on her head LOL - yes I was determined!

thank you for the advice auntbear - I normally tumble dry everything but I'm scared these will shrink in the dryer - I think the problem with drying them naturally is it is SO humid in the UK at the moment, with constant heavy rain, and especially in my house as the gutters don't work (the landlord won't fix it!) I'm afraid they'll go mouldy before they dry properly, if dried flat. At the moment they're on a rack of coat hooks, which is airing them nicely - but they've taken 3 days to dry! I may have to get the iron out next time, after I've washed the vinegar out :sweat

49. elve you could also speed up the drying time by blow drying gently on a cool setting if you have a hair dryer with variable settings. that would still keep the wrinkles out and wouldn't shrink them.

skimo thanks for the comparison that really helps. does dollzone change their skin tones often? that would make it really hard to match stuff if you wanted to swap bodies later...

50. I've asked them, they answered that they changed their resin color every year or so... it's the first time it's so obvious tho'...

51. yes I'm now stuck with a Freddy head which doesn't match the body I just got delivered for it last month! So I've ordered another head for the body, in the hopes it may match :sweat The new pink is VERY pink compared to the almond white of last year's 'pink' - I would like something in between the 2 extremes really - Star is quite a nice colour pink, I think she's from an earlier batch?

52. what is this years yellow like. do you know? i was planning to bring ivy home in pink next, but now i'm not so sure...

53. I've only got last year's yellow auntbear - I think it's a pretty safe colour, but I'm not keen on yellow, having seen it now - I prefer pink, because the pink does fade over time, in the resin, and of course if the resin also yellows over time, you will end up with a nice mellow skintone eventually.

54. thanks. i'll stick to pink then. i generally prefer the pinker ones since the yellow ones often look jaundiced to me.

55. I'm interested to see any changes in the yellow too. wanted to get a new body for an attempt @ a hybrid, but this year's pink won't work at all O.O

Hoping the white stayed the same at least as my I really need my Jani to match once he's home *crosses fingers*

eta: well seeing the latest posts, I don't think yellow will work either. seems my best bet is hunting up a nice mellowed pink body secondhand. there's bound to be one somewhere...hopefully...

56. I know Angel of Dream 'pink' matches the lighter 2013 dollzone 'pink' almost perfectly, if you've got something that colour? AoD bodies are really cheap too - and lovely quality, if a little shiny - other than that I love them, plus only a month for delivery if you order them from Alices Collections (AoD aren't great to deal with direct so I've heard)

ETA - just remember impldoll 'pink' is a good match for the dz mid pink (from November 2013 orders - before they went too pink with the December/Jan orders)
