I noticed a few days ago, DDE had a Ghost Blade Princess Yan doll up! She's not a resin bjd, she's made of pvc, similar to Hujoo and the off topic blindbox bjds I suppose? I am going to mail Denver Doll since her joints make it look like she's not a BJD and she's more like a hard plastic 1/6 barbie/obitsu, which is fine, but she's listed under their BJD section so I'm not 100% sure how she's constructed. I just know she's really, really pretty! Denverdoll Link: Ghost Blade Ice Princess Yan – Denver Doll Emporium I am not super familiar with the Ghost Blade IP, but I know Angell-Studio made some of the characters, too. They're really pretty! Aeolian: 1/3bjd 《GhostBlade》 AEOLIAN [fullset] Yulia: 1/3bjd 《GhostBlade》YULIA
Well, that is super interesting. Is Dolly Planet an AEStudio offshoot, I wonder? They are beautiful, and I certainly can understand the price for the full set. That is a very intricate outfit.
Ghost Blade is a Webtoon that was drawn by the HK artist who goes by WLOP. I've followed him for his artwork because this guy creates the "illusion of detail" like no one else. (You can find the webcomic here: Ghostblade ) The characters are all from the webtoon. And they do a great job with recreating the artwork from the webtoon, too. I don't know why his agent (the one with the red geometric logo) decided to collab with both Angell Studio and Dolly Planet. But I think the price point may be the issue. PVC would be a bit cheaper than resin. But that's just me guessing here.
I think price is a big factor. The Angell-Studio dolls are very beautiful but $1,000+ is a lot to spend on a doll, whereas $335 is quite a bit more affordable, even if it's still a substantial sum of money. Hah, I was only vaguely familiar with it, but looking at it... the art is very familiar to me! I recognize some of the panels from reposted D&D portrait art online for things like custom portraits in Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 and Pathfinder: Kingmaker.
So, I just found something rather confusing. Looks like AmiAmi has a listing for this Ice Princess Yan doll (I think it's the same doll? Those seem to be the same promo pics.) but they've listed her as 'Yulia'. And they've listed the maker as NMDoll. NMDoll seems to be a maker of life-sized dolls for adults from the brief search I did. Edit: Mystery solved about Yan vs Yulia. They are apparently the same person with Yan possibly being the reincarnation of Yulia or Yulia with amnesia. Edit edit: Maybe Dolly Planet is an offshoot of NMDoll? I haven't been able to find anything about this though. And to add to the confusion is the existence of a dealer called 'Dolly Planet'...
OK, so I went back to DDE, and they have Doll Zone tagged at the bottom. So a DZ offshoot? Yeah, the fact that there's a dealer called Dolly Planet has me totally confused, too. Guys - help us collectors out here! Regardless, $335 USD for a full set ABS 1/3 scale doll is an excellent price. And yes I'm tempted by the AEStudio dolls too...
