Dollstown Mini discussion part 5

Feb 15, 2014

    1. Definitely please!
I will look again on the site....

    2. Jane, I have Amy and Jea, I think Amy sculpt is too mature for 5yr body, the head, is much bigger than Jea, not good on 7yr
either. DT recommend 13/17.Of course this is only my opinion!! Still have not mastered pics on DOA but could email?

    3. Thank you SO much Jeana.
I should have made it clear I was talking about the brand new MSD Amy head that has just been sculpted.
You are totally right that the SD Amy head is way too big for these little girl bodies........I really appreciate you looking out for me!

Actually that is a point......this new Amy head ought to be called Amy7 (or Amy5) just like there is the Seola7.

    4. Oh Jane! I had no idea there was a new AMY! Thanks I will go and look now!

    5. I like both the 5 yo and the 7 yo bodies. I ordered the Amy head - in fresh skin since that is my "loose" body right now so she will be a 5 yo. When I think of head size - proportionally younger kids do have a bigger head so in my mind smaller is better for the 7 yo body. Momo has a bigger head than Jea and I think she would look funny on a 7 yo body.
One of the things I love about the copper oriental is that it is so much easier to photograph than the pale tan.

    6. OK; I'm holding all of you responsible. I ordered Amy on the 5yr body. She will be a little sister to Deogi on the 7yr body. Deogi is pure skin fresh and I ordered Amy in pure skin oriental.

    7. Oh what fun! You both have ordered Amy too.....so that is 3 already. Huge congratulations all round. :dance
I will have a serious think (and a chat with Alice) over the weekend, and we will see if I order my own MSD Amy in the next few days.
Or will I chicken out and wait until much later this year after I have seen her in owner photos????

Off to look on the DT site again.........

    8. Jane I couldn't resist with the special pricing and free shipping. Perhaps that will help you decide to order now. :3nodding: I am getting Amy for $100 less than I paid for my Deogi I wonder how long before she arrives as she is in stock. I usually order on layaway but didn't this time. I am trying to decide on who to do the faceup and can't really contact anyone since most want the doll in hand before signing up.

    9. It is the special pricing that is really making me think fast and I don't usually do that with dolls! But there is free shipping too???? I didn't see that!!!
That is so good! I have so much to think about now!

And although I haven't ordered I have been thinking about face-up artists tonight too! LOL!

    10. Me too. I just ordered another doll on layaway this week. But both of these dolls are on my want list.

I've still got some painting and re-organizing to do from my move, but I bought fabric to start sewing for my Deogi, and now Amy.

    11. Looks like we'll be seeing a crop of Amy's at around the same time - Yay!

      Teddy

    12. How about you Teddy? Are you ready to order an Amy?

I will be anxious to discover the outcome of the discussion between Jane and Alice. Surely Alice can be persuasive! I hope to see another Amy joining the group.

I've been debating names for Amy. I like Katarina or Lilianna but that could change. It is still early in the game. Both Anneliese (Deogi) and Amy will be Mori girls.

    13. That is the concept I would have for my girl if I order her too :thumbup

And I like the names on your list...........happy choosing. Will you wait until you have her in hand before actually naming her?
I have started thinking of possible names too and I haven't even ordered yet! LOL!

And a question please.......was the free shipping just automatically added when you ordered your girl? Or did you have to email and get a separate invoice?
      Thank you.

    14. Free shipping was added at the time of the order. It wasn't necessary to do anything other than put your girl in the cart!

    15. Thank you! I think I have already made up my mind but I will wait the one day to chat with Alice :kitty2

    16. Argghhh... anticipation!

To answer the question regarding her name, I will most likely wait until she arrives. I did have Deogi named before she arrived, but I knew her name immediately and didn't have to decide between multiple names.

    17. {laugh!} I can admire others DT kids but 99% of the sculpts aren't smiley enough for me.

Arin is my miserable boy and January and Winnie got in because Alina is about the smiliest sculpt I've seen from DollsTown.

      Teddy

    18. Teddy! It is your wedding day.....talk about dolls another day! LOL!

But I do always forget that Winnie and January are the same sculpt as they both look so different!!!

    19. LOL! Yes, DollsTown dolls are sad, or at best contemplative. For me, it is all about the lips when I select a doll. Love the pouty lips.

      Your wedding day? Congratulations Teddy.

I wonder how the chat between Jane and Alice is coming along. :3nodding:

Here is my Anneliese (Deogi). Anthrogirl did her faceup. I need to take a photo of her dressed. She is anxiously awaiting the arrival of her sister. I'm debating between Lilianna and Lilibet for her name.

    20. Teddy - Congratulations on your Wedding!!
I can't name them until I have done their face up and then sometimes not until they have clothing.

    21. I usually have their character and name decided before they ever arrive. I already have her wig & eyes ordered, part of her outfit, and know who I want to do the faceup. I am just waiting for her arrival from DT.

    22. Anneliese is so pretty.........I'll bet she can't wait to have a sister living with her soon.
Have you decided who will paint your little Amy yet? And I like both name choices too.

That is the same for me, I can have vague plans before they arrive, but they must be flexible as I cannot decide until I have the doll in hand.

We actually didn't get that much time to talk about this! LOL!
It had been ages since we had met face to face so we had so much other chat to cover first! LOL!

Can anyone tell me what are the differences between the Amy head and the Deogi one?
And Martha is the Jea head noticeably smaller than the Deogi one? Thank you

    23. I would like to have Angel Toast do Amy's faceup. I'm hoping that she doesn't fill up before Amy arrives. Lilianna is the first name I came up with for Amy, and interestingly enough both Anneliese and Lilianna mean "Oath of God." I came up with the name Lilibet because Anneliese's nickname for her would be 'Lil Bit" since she is the little sister.

There are similarities between Amy and Deogi, which makes it a good choice as a sister. However, Deogi has a softer "button" nose than Amy. Amy's is narrower and less rounded at the tip. Amy's eyes are more almond shape than round like Deogi's. The lips are very similarly shaped but Deogi's top lip is fuller and less "pointy" than Amy's. Deogi's face shape is rounder with fuller cheeks and a shorter rounded chin. Amy's face is more oval with narrower cheeks and a longer, more heart shaped chin.

Depending upon the faceup I think that Amy could look older than Deogi. Sort of a conundrum since I have Deogi on a 7yr body and Amy will be on a 5yr body. But, my sister was younger than me and was bigger and looked older when we were growing up.

    24. Here is a picture of Momo, Jea, Deogi and Ganga. I think of Momo and Ganga having bigger heads but really they are all about the same size.
[IMG]5 year olds by Martha David, on Flickr
So the Jea and Deogi heads are similar in shape - less round compared to Momo and Ganga.
I don't have the little Amy head so I'm not sure how it will compare.
      Hope this helps.

    25. Xiaoli - thanks for the comparison photo of your girls. I also enjoyed looking at your Flickr albums. You have a lovely collection.

    26. Thank you so much for coming to the wedding, Jane.

And I'm so gad that they do. And I brought January on the honeymoon with me (along with SD Maudie - with no costumes I had lots of suitcase space!!)

Thank you! It went wonderfully but my face ached all next day form so much smiling.

Lovely facup - what a cutie.

Same here - and even then they sometimes don't cooperate. Take my Winnie - I don't particularly like the name but she obviously does.

      Fingers crossed!

      Teddy

    27. Thank you for inviting me Teddy........it was a beautiful wedding, truly beautiful. And lucky January getting to go on your honeymoon trip with you.

And thank you so much Coleen
I am going to look very closely at the Amy head again now. I really like Deogi so I just need to make sure I am doing the right thing in ordering Amy.
And I do hope that Angel Toast will have a slot ready for you when your Lilianna arrives.

And thank you so much Martha
That photo helps just so much. Would you say Deogi is slightly longer in the face than Jea?
I am obsessed with head size as I didn't get on with my Alina as her head was too small for my taste........yet Deogi is my favourite sculpt and that is much smaller than the Ganga, Seola7 and Arin I have ! LOL!

    28. Sad face... AngelToast's list is filled for May. I will have to wait until she opens for June or pick another faceup artist.

    29. Oh no! What a disappointment *sigh*
Good luck deciding what to do now........in the long though, if you want AngelToast, waiting one month more would be worth it.

    30. Bad luck - but May will be over before you know it.

      Teddy

    31. Yea!! My Amy head has shipped.
Jane - I will do some measuring this weekend and bald profile pics for you regarding Jea and Deogi. I think they are about the same length but Deogi's cheek fullness is lower compared to Jea. I tried to do face ups that made them look young and innocent but to my eye I was more successful with Jea.

    32. Great news Xiaoli ! I will be anxious to see your faceup on Amy. I'm hoping my doll ships soon as well. DT said she was in stock when I ordered so she should ship within the week. Their site said in stock ships within 1-2 weeks and it has been a week since I ordered. I have to go out of town for work next week so I won't be home if she arrives.

I told Anneliese she has a sister coming. She is sad that Lilianna has not yet arrived.

    33. Thank you so much Martha I so appreciate this.

I have been looking and looking and I am not sure if Deogi's head just looks bigger/larger or if it really is larger!

I am not sure how to explain this but I will try.
In your photo Jea's head seems much smaller as the actual face takes up less of the whole head. While Deogi's head seems larger because the face fills more of the head.
I so hope you understand what I am trying to say. *_*

And this is why I am still waiting and dithering about ordering still *sigh*

And I so hope you get a shipping notice soon too Coleen *fingers crossed*

    34. Yay!

      Awwwww... Bless!

I took January with me to Muir Woods to see the Giant Redwoods and Banana Slugs on Thursday, and she had a great time:

We found five banana slugs and I got to hold a couple of them! No really big bright yellow ones, though, these were smaller green ones, so not yet matured.

      Teddy

    35. Head comparison Jea on left and Deogi on right - no wigs.
      Measurements in inches
      tip ear to chin - 1 3/8 vs 1 1/2
      width of head at nose - 1 7/8 vs 1 3/4
      width of head at mouth - 1 5/8 vs 1 1/2
width of head at eyes - 2 vs 1 7/8
      measurements that are the same
      space between eyes 5/8
      tip nose to chin 7/8
widest part of forehead 2 1/8
I think the side view shows the different shape the best
      Deogi's face is longer
[IMG]Head comparison Jea and Deogi by Martha David, on Flickr
There are front on pictures on my flickr account

    36. Teddy I love that photo of January on holiday with you! I really like her outfit too.
Giant Redwoods sound awesome but Banana Slugs would not be my cup of tea at all *yuk*

And THANK YOU so much Martha for this.
There is so much more difference that I thought there would be and in different places from where I thought it would be too. I had no idea the noses were so different! I am just going to look at the photos over on Flickr again now.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    37. Teddy - it was good to see January on holiday with you. Redwoods fine; slugs not so much! The size of her leg? Acck!

Xiaoli - Great comparison photos and detailed measurements between Jae and Deogi.

    38. Coleen.....I take it you have heard nothing yet? Waiting for a sister, must be like waiting for a birthday for dear little Anneliese!

Martha I am still staggered at the difference between Deogi and Jea. And I see why you said that Deogi was the younger looking of the sculpts before a face-up now.

Here is Penelope (my Deogi) enjoying a plateful of Nutella sandwiches

    39. Mmmm.... Nutella.....

That lot will give her a bundle of energy.

      Teddy

    40. It will keep her going right up until teatime when she will join her friends for a bowl of fresh strawberries!

I am just so grateful to have my DT girls as they are the resin dolls I play with the most at the moment :kitty1

    41. Jane - Penelope is a real sweetheart! I must say; I wouldn't mind a bite of her Nutella sandwich myself.
I agree that Deogi looks younger without a faceup. I think that my Amy could look older than Deogi depending upon who does her faceup.

I checked my Order status today when I got off work. Nothing yet. I hope she ships by the end of the week. I already have her eyes, wig, and outfit. Shoes have shipped but not yet arrived.

Oh, while I was writing my post you posted a new pic. I loved seeing your girls at tea. I agree; I can see me playing with these DT girls a lot. I don't do anything with my SD anymore and I don't do much more than change outfits on my tinies.

But the characters for Anneliese and Lilianna are quickly revealing itself. They are going to be amateur sleuths. They have a rather sad backstory; orphaned at a young age. They have a rich benefactor that has made sure they are enrolled in a boarding school for gifted children but is absent from their lives. They love Nancy Drew stories and Rita Mae Brown's mysteries.

    42. Oh *rats* about not hearing anything yet..............*fingers crossed* that you hear something very soon.

And what size eyes did you buy?
I noticed on the Dollstown Flickr page they said they were using Dollshe 14mm........but Dollshe eye sizes are odd I seem to remember.
But I can't remember if they are bigger or smaller than regular sized eyes! *_*

    43. I bought 14mm eyes from ginarolo. I bought 14mm ginarolo eyes for Deogi and they said 14mm for her as well. I liked the fit so I ordered same for Amy. I have always ordered silicone eyes as a rule because they are more realistic and are more flexible so can be more forgiving than glass eyes. But, for some reason I wanted the ginarolo glass eyes for my DT girls!

    44. Thank you so much. I really like Ginarolo eyes too.

And I was just looking on the DT site this evening and if I ordered today everything is pre-order status...........so I guess that means a long wait?
I also checked how long the free shipping event is for Amy, and I have until May 31st to make up my mind.
So I am very happy about that.

    45. If you don't want a specific skin color, try placing the order with different skin colors. Perhaps one color may be in stock and you won't have to wait so long?

    46. Amy 5yo head arrived today - so here is the shot of the side and front view comparisons.
Measurements are the same as Jea. The eye shape and lip shapes are the most different.

[IMG]Amy 5, Jea, Deogi by Martha David, on Flickr
[IMG]Amy 5, Jea, Deogi by Martha David, on Flickr

Weather here is cold and wet so far this spring so don't know when I will be able to do her face.
      Hope this helps people.

    47. Coleen I don't mind waiting.
And I would most likely order my girl in orientalskin so that she will work with my other girls. I tend to play safe in life and I know I like that colour. But I have seriously toyed with the idea of having a copper oriental girl, but I don't know how easy that resin is to photograph.
And knowing how tricky it is to photograph the pale tan resin, I really don't want to have another doll that would cause me problems like that.

Martha do you find the copper oriental comes out in photos the same colour it is in real life?
For some bizarre reason the pale tan photographs a lot lighter than it is in real life!

And THANK YOU so much for the extra photos......would you say the Amy eye shape is similar to the Deogi one?
And congratulations on getting your Amy too.......she arrived so fast! Lucky you!!! :dance

    48. I think the copper oriental is much easier to photograph than the pale tan. All the pictures I have taken of my copper girls on flickr have been just quick snaps with my I phone. I think that the Amy eye shape is more like Deogi's and that the apple part of the cheeks is lower - like Deogi as well but her face isn't quite as oval. It is rounder like Jea's.

    49. Having just spent several hours walking around San Francisco's China Town area, I could do with that sort of refreshment myself

      Yaaaay!

Poots! I hope you hear soon.

Ooh! Have you read the Murder Most Unladylike books by Robin Stevens? Two 1930's schoolgirls form their own detective agency.

      Yaaay!!!!

      Teddy

    50. Coleen I am so sorry but I totally missed this extra piece earlier.
I find that this size doll is so easy to hold in the hand and so easy to pose for photos......plus I have a myriad of ideas of what to do with them for little scenes. My SD dolls are just sitting and waiting for me to pick them up again too! LOL!
I am so going to enjoy seeing photos of Anneliese and Lilianna as it seems as if their lives will be as full of adventure as my girls lives. My girls are all in 'The Hobby Horse Club' more commonly known as the 'HHC' and they are always on the lookout for adventure.

Thank you so much again Martha.
I think I am spending every post thanking you for another really useful snippet of information at the moment!
So now it is a dead even choice between copper oriental and orientalskin for me.

You are certainly having a blast out and about sightseeing Teddy..........did January come with you this time?

    51. It was Maudie's turn (Voolks Kujo/SD10 Swarrico) but there were no photo opportunities.

      Teddy

    52. Jane - I added the part about my girls being amateur sleuths to a previous post. As the 4 of us were posting last night it would have been easy to miss if you didn't go back and read a previously read post. I like that your girls have their own club! How fun; a sort of secret society!

Teddy - I didn't realize that your honeymoon was in The States! The jet lag would be enough to make you tired without all the sight-seeing you are doing. I hope that you were able to find some suitable souvenirs for your resin companions.

I have not read the Murder Most Unladylike series. I just went on Amazon and ordered the first book in the series, "Murder is Bad Manners" for my Kindle! It is downloaded and if I don't have the opportunity to read it before hand, I will certainly have the opportunity on my flight back home Friday night!

Martha - Your pictures have been very informative. I have enjoyed them and it appears to me that Amy is the "bridge" sculpt. What I mean by that is she is sort of in the middle between Deogi and Jea. She combines he features of both and is kind of the connector that brings all 3 sculpts together.

Still no shipping notice yet. But, while logging onto DT's site they have just released a new 18yr male head, Roon. I'm not interested in that size, but it is exciting to see that DT has released quite a few new dolls lately. They released a new larger girl head (15 I think) prior to releasing the new Amy head and now a new large male.

    53. I am glad I did find it as I love your storyline for your girls. Will they be dressed like Martha's two girls in old-fashioned clothes?

    54. Actually, on this post I hit post reply by accident. So I was editing it while you responded to this post. So, there is additional information for the 3 of you.

My girls won't be dressed in old fashioned clothing; they will be dressed in Mori style. I love the eclectic look, which incorporates some aspect of old fashioned clothing with some funky accent pieces such as tattered lace or ribbon, and different patterns and colors. Who knows... after reading the mystery story that Teddy recommended the girls may decide they want to wear old fashioned clothing to mimic their new beloved mystery series.

    55. I like how flexible you are here with your story plans. And I do love the Mori style of dressing dolls so much.
I am fairly flexible with the time periods I have for my girls, as I figured this was doll play so I could be! LOL!

I have my 3 modern members of the HHC that is Susie, Hazel and Penelope. Then I have Megan who floats around in the time period 1940-50's. She lives in the village next to the modern girls and somehow (totally unexplained and not noticed by the girls at all) crosses a timeline and she is often seen playing with the modern gang. Megan has fairly recently been allowed to join the HHC gang.
And then I have Edith who is my old-fashioned girl.
I have never fixed a time period for Edith beyond vaguely saying late Victorian early Edwardian. And she can cross timelines too as she is in the HHC too!

So as you see I am happily all over the place......heheheheee! :XD:

    56. Best way to be with dolls, I find! :D

I'm so busy with my course work at the moment, but I do want to get Emma, Mhairi and Cecily out to play sometime soon...while they are packed away, it's easy to think about parting with them, but once they come alive again, I know I will need to keep them...

      Alicex

    57. Yes you do need to get them out! I hadn't realsied that they were packed away to be honest. Good luck in finding the time to get them out before you do something you might regret!
And good luck with the essay writing too

    58. My girls travel around a bit in time as well. I love the late victorian to edwardian children's clothing so often find myself creating clothing somewhat based on that era.
The next challenge is my girl's school - material is ordered - grey flannel and white lawn and yarn for knitted sweaters- for the 5yo and 7yo school uniforms.

    59. I like that! :)
And I like all you make for your girls too..........I can't wait to see their school uniforms too. I am gathering all I need for modern school uniforms but it will be ages before I actually do anything.
Was it easy to get grey flannel that is fine enough for dolls?
