Dollstown 13yr & 15yr Discussion - part three

The newer body (just from looking at the photos on Mr Anjonghak's Flickr page) looks somehow younger than the older DT15 body. So I can see why he says on the webpage not for the bigger boys heads like Mui and Hue.
The shoulders simply don't have the size to balance those size heads at all.
In my opinion the older DT15 body could barely balance out the size of the Mui head I have anyway which is why I tend to drape jumpers round my lad's shoulders to help minimise his over-large head.
Or make sure he is wearing a jacket! That does the trick nicely too!





I really like the look of this new DT15 body and as soon as I can figure out what head I would like on it, I will order one. I fancy having a young DT lad in the house!
I am now also very interested in this slightly taller male body Mr Anjonghak is working on too!


Is anyone from here ordering the new DT15 male body? (nosey me!)

I have ordered one if the new bodies. It will be a hybrid for 2 heads I have from a Chinese artist -Xiao (small). I also think it looks a bit younger than the original 15 yo.

 

I really loved the new 15y body, aesthetically, but I can't help but think it must be a terrible poser, due to his lack of chest joint... =/ I'll probably not be able to restrain myself and get one anyway, though! XD

 

Jane~ Your Mui looks great! I usually don't like the head sculpts of DT (only the bodies, haha) but the expression you gave him really fits!

I totally fell in love with the new DT15 body... so much so, that I'm contemplating buying one with a Soi head (never seen this head before, but as a boy on this body it just grabbed me *first DT head I want, woo* ) I'm seriously stuck between fresh or oriental skin, though...

People who have oriental and/or fresh skin dolls... which is closer to a natural, healthy human-skintone shade?

 

Oh gosh that is a tricky one! As personal preference clouds my judgement
I have both these resin colours and like both...........but I personally find the orientalskin looks the most natural for a modern doll and is the easiest to photograph.


And Martha I can't wait to see your hybrid lad........have they given an estimated delivery time for the new body yet?

And chubi....yes I was sorry to see the upper torso joint go. The new body will certainly not have the same range of movements that the older one has, but I still like it!

 

We're on the same boat! I've only liked a few DT heads with custom face-ups, not really into the molds in general (except Elysia. She's awesome and has always been ), but recently I've found out that I really want a Rian... ;__; Maybe I'll get one with the new 15y body, since I kinda want to explore that face as a boy (: Though I'm not that into their proportions, because it's a bit too childish-like (bigger heads) for my taste, so maybe Rian will end up being a hybrid and the 15y body will get another head. XD *confused already*

Yeah, I'm actually impressed with it's balance, though! It poses really naturally and stands nicely for a massive resin body. Because DT dolls are really heavy and have thick resin, I'm always impressed with their stability~ (: My 18years girl body was a pain without hot glue sueding, but now it's just perfect.
I prefer the new body's look than the old one, it has improved aesthetics and anatomy, but I know myself too well... I'll not enjoy playing with him with a fixed torso =/ But since I have no shame, I sent Dollstown and e-mail asking if they have any plans to offer a two-piece torso option, like Spiritdoll does with their Elegance Line... The old 15y had a chest joint, so I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask. (:
I also asked about the layaway option, because they used to offer it on the old website, but there's no info about it since the renewal =/

chubi~ Totally the same boat! DT heads were way too big for me, too! xD And even Soi (despite seemingly more in proportion than the others on the new 15y body) makes me wonder a bit... but at the same time, I like the head and I like the body, so together or not I think I'll need to see them in real, too. (Despite getting more and more confused about what I really want as well. lol )

 

Well I really like the Amy head on this body totally to my surprise, had you asked me if I would consider this combination last week I would have laughed in your face! *blush*
But I think it works perfectly!

Yup yup. I get that feel. It's so annoying because I feel really awful when dollie stuff don't work out and I have to sell them to get new ones... =/ *sigh* You should totally go for it, tho! With your face-up experience, you'll probably do something interesting on a Soi ^_^~

 

Exactly... and that's my problem! Dolly stuff mostly works out for me because I never really buy dolls on a whim/quickly (only if I fall for them a lot. lol) but now, I'm so unsure because I fell for this character, but 1. I have at least 3 styles in mind for him (which is neever good) and 2. just not sure I should bring him home now (since he's not limited). This discount event, however, is making my resolve weaker every day. >__> And Thank you! I have nothing too original in mind, tho... lol

99% of my dolly dilemmas are decided by lack of funds.
But this new body will definitely make it onto the short list. I guess I should try my Oasis Alejandro head on the 15yr body I have before getting too committed though. I have both freshskin and oriental skin now so at least picking a color will be easier this time!

 

Gawd, the discount... I'm really weak towards those, when it's that much. I'm currently saved by the lack of available cash, though, so I won't get the 15yrs body right now LOL I already have resolved dolly plans for this month and the next. ;_;"

Hahaha, exactly! XD It saves a lot of trouble, even though it's annoying wanting a lot of things at the same time and then having to decide which is more important =/

Chubi and Jane, Thank You! Jane, I have a beautiful dress waiting for Elysia but have lots to do to make Hyun's! I haven't sewed Hannah's velvet sailor suit yet cuz she's an elf body and I need her back to do the pattern. But I am so excited! Long wait was totally worthwhile and is now coming to an end! Yippeee!!!

 

That is one beautiful Elysia, Dana. Wow. Can anyone help me? I am in the process of saving for my big girl, which will definitely be Elysia. My thoughts were to possibly hybrid with another body and I have been looking at other SD sized bodies. Can anyone show me photos of DT 13 heads on other bodies please? Elysias would be great but any of the heads will do. Maybe in the end it will be the 13yr body, but need to work on it. Thanks so much.

 

Theresa, I can't help either...I am with Peppa on the resin match obsession. I bought a LLDT Little Edria head and I am having a really difficult time trying to figure out what body she would match best with (LLDT doesn't make bodies). I will probably end up with a DT 13 or elf for her but the decision is a real pain!

Thanks for the input Dana and peppa. I have decided to have both head and body by Dollstown. All my other DT girls have DT bodies; I thought that I wanted a little more delicate look for her, but I can certainly do that with clothing. I adore the expressive DT bodies so why change? Now I can't wait to be able to order. I have clothes, eyes and wig ready, now just need my girl.

 

Coming in late to the discussion here Theresa and when you have already made your decision.......but I think it is a good one. Hybrid resin matching can work out so expensive in the long run as it is just so hit and miss.

I hope you will be able to order your girl very soon!

 

anyone knows which skintone I should order if I want the body for Volks normal?

 

Hi sarielxx.......I am not 100% sure about the resin match but I would guess you would have more chance of success with orientalskin

 

Honestly, none of the DollsheCraft colors are a good match to Volks pureskin normal. I have a Genji head on an orientalskin body and it's bad enough that I either keep him very dressed or only photograph him in B&W. There is a significant difference in the resin texture, color and opacity. You could blush a head more pink to match, but if you have a doll with an existing faceup, you'd have to blush the body a more yellow tone, which most people don't want to do.
I have a few other heads on orientalskin and Freshskin bodies, but they are all companies that have a more pink undertone to their normal skin.

 

Theresa, for what it's worth I LOVE the freshskin color. I think oriental skin looks slightly yellow and since resin dolls yellow over time anyway....

Theresa, in Dollstown Discussion Part 2, page 42, Wally showed three Dollstown girls with pale, fresh, and oriental skin to show the comparison. It was super nice of her to go to that trouble and you should check it out if you want to see a good example of DT resin comparison.

 

Hello! I've been lurking in the DT threads for ages; you guys have such remarkable dolls! Now I finally have a 15 boy body, so I'm joining in...

Sorry to start with a question, but can anyone tell me which size is best when ordering from sadol? I've already tested sd13 long-leg, and the thick DT legs are giving me trouble.

I have never ordered direct from Sadol so I don't know about their sizing, but I so know what you mean about the *thunder-thighs* of the old DT15 male body!

I am still finding that buying trousers for my lad is very hit and miss.
Old Cheerydoll trousers in the standard SD13 have turned out to work very well for him as they were always slightly too baggy and big for the regular SD13 body.
Here he is in old style Cheerydoll jeans (standard SD13 size)



But you will have to hunt on the second-hand market for those if you don't just 'happen to have' any pairs at home
All other trousers and jeans for my lad have come from the second-hand market were I have taken a chance that the fit is loose and the leg length long enough, except for one pair of jeans that was made for him by a friend......and they are a perfect fit!

Jane, thanks so much! Those jeans look perfect on him. I'm going to have to just take a chance on sadol at some point....Those jeans look great! I was wondering if older brands made for the Volks bodies would work. I love all the slim options now, but most dolls have much smaller leg diameters. XD I do love this body though. It's so graceful!

 

My Shigure who after 5 years together sacrificed his old body so I could cover some new girls. But he will get a new body soon. Doubt I will ever afford his dragon tattoo again, but he will get work done.

 

I'm so pleased to see the new 15yr boy body! However, I'm going to hold on and hope for a 16-17yr with a physique between 15yr and 18yr... the 18yr is too tall and leggy for my tastes, while the 15yr is too young for the doll I am planning. I would like a 65cm body similar to SD17 in size and proportion but with Dollstown's uniquely gorgeous sculpting style (especially those hands, so beautiful!)

 

I am actually thinking along almost the same lines as you..... the character I have in mind needs a more mature body than this new DT15 boy body.
But I am working on creating a younger character to fit this new body

He needed a fresh start as we all do from time to time. His new body is the old 15 yr boy body, so he'll be just as tall, and fill out his clothes just as well. I wish Dollstown would make a more detailed and fresh look & call it the 16 yr body. My key pet peeve with the old 15 was he would not sit up straight. As for the new, I think they should call it the 13 yr body as face facts, they already have the category 13 to 18 years. Yet never made a 13 yr boy. Also while the removed the idea of ever having 7 or 5 yr old boys again, why did they keep heads then that do better as boys then girls? If they are going to limit bodies, then some heads should be retired with new ones added esp, for the elf body. I also wish they would make an elf boy body. Smaller then the new boy body, but designed like the girl one. Could so see having an Elf boy for the elf girls. Then a boy head with the elf ears.

 

I wonder why yours would not? My Simon can slouch beautifully and can sit straight (and sit unpropped too!)

And rianne you can see in this photo were I have unpicked the hem on a pair of trousers (from an unknown maker) and lengthened them to work for Simon!

I followed this tutorial and made a hat for my Tory...FYI, if you make the radius of the circle 1.5 inches it will fit tighter, if slightly larger it will be looser on a DT 13 head like Triste's.

My new boy body arrived today - I'll try to get some pictures comparing to the old 15 yo body. Any particular questions anyone has - I'll try to do any posing you are interested in. I also have the big heads - Mui, Daisy and Hue if any one wants to see that scale. My initial impression is that I will have to get used to the knees - He didn't stand perfectly right out of the box like the old boy did. He seems to fit the same clothing - I have jeans from Alice's collections that fit both bodies great.

You are so creative in what you make for your girls! It is a good job they live with you as they would have to make do with what I could buy for them here! LOL!

Now I am really interested in hearing more about the differences between the new and the old body.

But what a shame about him not standing straight out of the box though! And it was only when I went back to look at Anjonghak's Photostream I saw what you meant about the knees! I hadn't seen that they had changed to that design *groan*
Oh well.......all I will say is that the boy dolls tend to wear long trousers most of the time so seated they will cover that joint construction.......a construction I will be honest about and say I do not find aesthetically pleasing to look at at all!

Does your lad sit straight too? I am so concerned about the lack of the upper torso joint as I pull that forward to get my Simon sitting perfectly straight.

The new body is just a shade shorter. They wear the same clothing. The outfit that Niall has on is the same as I've had on all the other boys. Both boys are standing here unaided. The main difference is Matthew I can just plop down and Niall I have to make sure his knees are straight and sort of locked. I haven't had a lot of time to play with them but it is a nice body just different.

The old (she's in a 1912 traveling suit) and the new (my little punk rocker). I think he fits in nicely with the rest of my girls. I have another floating head by the same artist (Xiao - sc-doll - this is soil and I also have dust). For now they will share a body but in the future I think I will likely get another. The Dollstown bodies are better than any of the others that I have considered matching. Again both dolls are standing unaided.

 

Niall's body is very nice looking Xaioli. He makes a cute punk rocker! Peppa, you may see a photo of the new 15yr boy together with the 13yr girl on the new boy's page on the Dollstown site. They seem to go very well together IMO.

 

My DT Amy is on her way back to me from having her faceup done by sally chandler (Lilygami designs). Can't wait to see her in person

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I really love Sally's faceup's. I'm hoping to get a couple more DT girls soon - I have completely fallen in love with the sculpts, and I hope to get Sally to do those faceup's as well.

I finally decided to just don't care and order the new 15y body with a Soi head... yeah... I'm so weak. :
However, this being my first order from DT I was wondering if someone can help with this; what is the real difference between the 'in stock' and the 'pre-order' options when ordering...? Is it only the time, or the resin match is better with the latter or is there something else...? Also, does DT include a bill in the parcels? Thank you, in advace! ^^;
