    8. Wait...You cast her yourself? Her body looks great, you did a fantastic job!

    9. Yes, I am doing my own casting -- thanks!!! I cast the first version, now I'm reading-doing my molds, since I was using rubber that was too soft and it distorted my cast parts. I can't wait till they're done. I really don't like mold-making and casting! Once I get a really well-fitting prototype that I'm satisfied with, I plan to begin outsourcing my casting.

    11. Brilliant! I am delighted to see your work again. My elf Kirya always did want for a sister.

    12. You've done such a great job! She already looks very professional so props on doing all of that by yourself!! I would love to have her in my collection. ^^

    13. Wow, she's cool, very expressive! Those teeth are just too cute. I love the idea of a smiley vampire. The body looks wonderful, slim and yet curvy. Did you cast her in resin?

    14. Hi Glyndon, great to hear from you and thank you!!!! I would be so happy if you had my new doll... she will go on preorder in the near future. :)

    15. Hi Vividstar, thank you for your comments. I really appreciate hearing your feedback! I hope to put her up for sale soon, if i can just get these %*##* molds done!!

    16. Hi eviessanctum, thank you so much!! I'm so glad you like her smiley-ness! And thanks for your feedback on the body. Yes, she is in resin. I'm using Smooth On resins and rubber... I like their resin. And, they are within driving distance of my home!

    17. She's got cute teeth :)) I think it's hard showing a lot of them while still keeping a natural smile
I also like her body, particularly her legs... I love long, curvy legs *__*

Good luck with the molding and casting :))

    18. Hi Earill, thank you so much! I'm glad you like her teeth. Yeah, it was hard doing the lips with all theory sets of fangs!

    19. Oops, all "those"!

    20. Wow she is amazing. Do you have any photos. Of your original sculpt? I would love to see how you sculpted her

    21. Hi Glimmer, thank you very much. I do actually have a lot of pics of my sculpting process. Please visit my Facebook page, at Facebook.com/DollStories. I also have a blog; I'll post the link soon. Thanks again!

    22. Your girl is wonderful! I love her dreamy expression. The body is amazing, such beautiful form and graceful shapes!!

    23. @Berrysdoll - Thank you very much for your wonderful compliments about my girl! I appreciate it so much! Thank you for looking, and please stop back again -- I am always posting photos. โ‰ˆ^โˆ†^โ‰ˆ

    24. Oh hello DollStories! :D I'm so happy to see you here! I'm geminick_ on Instagram hehe! I wasn't aware you were on here, so this was a nice surprise. ^^

Your girl is gorgeous, so keep up the work! :D

    25. Hi there Aminoff/geminick_! Please feel free to call me Glenna so the names don't get confusing! :)

Thank you so much for your comment, and I'm also excited to see your boy coming along so gorgeously! Love the smoothing you're doing. Keep it up... I know it's hard and never-ending.

    26. Hehe, thanks dear. :) I will make sure to remember the name Glenna. :D

Mhmmm, it really is never-ending... Urgh. But it'll all be over soon... I hope! :P

    27. I feel like I don't know what's wrong with me, I am SO slow at doll development... part of the reason, I think, is that I began with sculpey instead of doll clay. I wound up having to make a lot of refinements in the resin. Refine, recast... refine, recast... very time-consuming.

    28. Ooooh I know the feeling... Ask's head was originally made in Super Sculpey.. Never ever using that clay again!
I haven't gotten to the point where I get to try casting Ask's body yet however... Not sure if I'm looking forward to that or not. XD; Then again, I'm only going to cast the master sculpt myself, after that, I'm hoping to send the resin master out for casting in Korea. :)

One thing I'm a little concerned with, however, is how smooth people want their dolls to be when cast? I personally like it when I can see that the doll has been hand sculpted, that there little imperfections here and there (like on the Spiritdoll dolls, they're not as perfectly smooth as for example the Fairyland dolls or the Iplehouse dolls), but maybe that's just me?

    29. Yes, I wonder about that, too. My Supia Rhoda is not perfect -- her thighs are a bit lumpy.

I KNOW my dolls will have imperfections, no doubt about it! I think the most important thing is the engineering. My first cast version was very kicky and the left leg kept swinging out to the side when she sat. I don't think that's acceptable, so I'm offering a new body at cost to those who purchased her. Another prob. with my first doll was the resin being too thin where her arms terminated, where the ball of the other part would fit in. I found out if the ball joint is a little too big, and the resin of the other part is too thin, it will actually deform the resin! Live & learn! >.<

For myself, I prefer smoothness. But of course it's personal choice. :)

I also plan to send my doll out once I get a prototype. It's getting to that prototype that's the hard part though! Let me know if you have any questions once you start your molding/casting journey! I discovered I MUCH prefer sculpting. Can't wait to send this girl out!

I am planning on using Robutst Casting in the UK as the startup costs are low. May I ask who you're planning on using?

    30. Hey, sorry for not replying for so long! Been busy moving into a new apartment and stuffs. ^^;

Myeah, I guess you're right, it all comes down to personal taste in the end. :)
Haha, I bet I will have TONS of questions for when I start molding and casting. x_x Casting his head won't be much trouble, I already did that three times myself, but making three part molds? URRRGGHHHH my BRAIN!

I e-mailed Robust once, but never got a reply. I might try them again, if I can reach them. Otherwise, it'll be DollShe, as I've heard so many good reviews concerning their work. :)

    31. That body looks like a professional company did it. To bad you don't care for mold making or casting. As good as that looks, you could have a few clients who just want a small run. Maybe you could make a tutorial on how to make molds and cast. How did you make sure there weren't any bubbles. I hear that's hard to do.

    32. Hey Aminoff, no prob, I'm also replying late -- haven't been on the forum in awhile!

Robust Casting is out of business, and I heard they were just awful!

Dollshe has a good rep, and so does Island Doll:
      http://www.islanddoll.com/article_cat.php?id=2
(this is the page that has their contact info, and a woman named Ivy will answer you. JPopdolls is their agent in the US, by the way.)
I might not be remembering accurately, but I think for 20 dolls they are $208. per doll. Pretty high!

Also Fdoll has a great rep, and they are cheaper than Island doll:
      http://www.fdoll.com/
For 20 dolls, I think it comes out to $120. per doll, including the molds, sanding, AND stringing!

I think I am going to use fdoll. There's a dollmaker called Little Rebels, I think, whose Tumblr I read and she highly recommends them! She preferred their resin to Island Doll. She reviewed each company. Here are her reviews:

      http://littlerebel.net/archives/1341

She says that Dollshe requires your channels to be very smooth. My doll's channels are a mess! Another reason I can't use Dollshe! I really need to clean them up.

Hope that helps! YAY for casting dolls!

I now need to get a 9-to-5, so I won't be able to spend as much time on my dolls. At least until they can support me! Hey, it could happen! :)

      Best,
      Glenna

    33. Hi dollsbestfriend!

Oh my gosh, thank you SOOOOO much! You made my day! I'm so happy to hear you say my doll looks professional. Yes, I do want to make a tutorial at some point...

I use a pressure pot to eliminate bubbles in the rubber and in the resin casting. I still have problems with bubbles at the ends of things, like, say, around the top of the thigh joint where it fits into the body. You can eliminate these by making thin channels - voids in the mold - so the air can escape. I am now making sure I make lots of these air holes out of clay, at the top of each joint, so air can escape.

When I do get a bubble, I can sometimes get away with pouring a bit of resin on it. I then sand it when the resin dries.

The thing is, in my opinion if you do your own casting, you never have enough time to create more doll sculpts. At least I don't! I want to make a 1/6 size girl, and lots more heads. These casting companies are financially within reach, so when I get a great, completed prototype I'm going to open my preorder. I hope to do that in a few weeks.

Another thing I've run into is that the resin company I use, Smooth On, is convenient since it's an hour away from me. BUT their resin, when dry, SQUEAKS!!! Especially the knee joints. My doll's joints creak like an 85-year-old woman's!

      Best,
      Glenna

    34. She looks great!

    35. Hi Sabs! Hope you're well.

It's been awhile since I've been on, sorry for the late reply, and THANK YOU!!!!!

    36. Such a beautiful girl, she is so lovely.
