Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this (wasn't sure if this belonged in customization/maintenance or not), but I'm in need of advice for posing issues. This is for the Dollshe Mystic Body 70cm version (specifically pose plus, if that makes a difference). I know that there are probably threads about this body out there already, but I must not be that great at Googling for information, because I can't find anything that has helped me so far. Here's my issue--I love the Mystic Body--I think it's an amazing poser--but it can't stand, or at least not very solidly at all. I have the mystic pose plus, but I fixed the problem with the waist joint by hot glue-sueding it. It seems that the remaining issue is with the knees. They seem to buckle very easily. I've re-strung the body with thicker string, and I don't think it's an issue with tightness, but the legs are very kicky. My sister and I can get him to stand for a little bit, but they quickly buckle again. Now I'm wondering if I re-strung the body correctly, but I think this body is strung in a pretty basic way (no crossing over of the strings like with Switch bodies, etc). Would hot-glue sueding the knees help? And if so, how would I hot-glue suede them? The space between the knee joints and the leg pieces is very, very tight, and I feel like the glue would just be scraped off. I've seen this body be able to stand from other collectors, and I'd LOVE it if someone could help me out, because I really would prefer to keep this body. Thanks to everyone who has read this! Any advice would be super, super appreciated
Yes, this body definitely suffers from instability in the knees. There really isn’t much room to suede in there, especially without putting extra stress on the sides of the leg joints where they meet the peanut (I know some people have had breakage at that spot so I am paranoid about it) I wired the knees in mine. Or, more specifically, I wired his belly, hips and knees. I folded a piece of 12g wire in half (you could get away with a lesser gauge, this is really stiff), wrapped tape on the ends to protect from scratches, and inserted it at his lower belly joint (mine is also Pose+) with the ‘legs’ going down both of his legs and the intersection in his chest cavity. A bit of resistance to spontaneous unwanted knee movement was all he needed and along with hip and belly sueding, he stands very sturdily now.
Oh, thank you so, so much! I will try this as soon as I’m able to get a hold of some wire. I’m so grateful for your response!
+1 to @Havra 's solution of wiring! I own 2 Mystic Pose bodies myself and those legs are so annoying.. Haha! I find wiring their arms helps with better poseability too if that's a route you'd like to take
Thank you for your additional feedback to this solution! I have wire on the way and I feel like there’s hope, haha
I gave my Dollshe guy on Mystic body to a doll repairman to strengthen the inside of the thin plastic of his ankles before sizing with suede. Mystic's knees were flopping regardless of the tension of elastics, and I was just afraid that they would ever burst in the ankles. Initially, the gap between the knee joint and the ankle detail was so small that even a sheet of paper could not fit there, not that suede. I asked the master to add a layer of epoxy to lower leg details. After this modification, it was also necessary to reduce the peanut along the width so that it entered the lower leg. Now, the sawn down surface is visible only when the knee is bent, but the doll is standing without problems.
wow, that’s a lot of work to make a doll stand ^^; I feel like Dollshe needs to work on that haha. I’m glad that modding is always an option too. Thanks for letting me know!
