Dollshe Discussion - Part Six

Dec 15, 2014

1. Thank you Quiet and Insane!

2. BlitheFool Oh, gosh! They look great together! Kurt's hands are the best part, seriously. How did you do that mod?!?

3. BlitheFool - Wow! He looks so cool! :D I'm curious about his hands too. Mind sharing a close up photo?

4. Thanks, all!
Kiyakotari- I cut off his fingers and toes, resculpted them in epoxy, and then painted them to match the resin. The ears mods are just an add on. I didn't have to dremel anything for those. I still need to do the tail. I've been a bit lazy.

If I had it to do all over again I'd sand the mods more. It was a learning experience anyhow!

5. Amanda Beauty will be shipping soon. Her compact and lipstick will follow after they have been finished. Now, after a few incredible Venitu's have been posted, I've been craving that young man. Drat.

6. The Nightcrawler is looking fabulous. I love what you have done with your blue guy.

7. You've done an amazing job BlitheFool!

The closest thing to modding I've done...is attach eyelashes to Desmond's SA faceplate. That was frustrating. >.<

8. BlitheFool, your Nightcrawler is amazing! Great work!

9. He's so great! I'd love to see more of Nightcrawler!

10. I'll have to take some new photos of him soon. It's been dark and rainy lately so not so hot for photography.
Quiet and Insane- I feel your pain with eyelashes. 'Crawler has a sleeping face and I haven't even touched it...

11. BlitheFool: your nightcrawler is super awsome - I would love to see more of him!

I wanted to show my Saint, who received a new face-up yesterday. I am hessitating to make the facial hair darker. What do you think?

12. I think it looks great as is but I know about wanting to make it darker. I want to do that to my Sherlock with his dark stubble. It doesn't photograph as dark as it needs to be.
I would only darken it in the center of the goatee toward the bottom of the chin that's where it would be the darkest IRL.

13. He looks amazing!! Darker might look good, too -- but he's fabulous as-is!

-- A :kitty2

14. *falls over *thud* Wow, just....wow!

15. BlitheFool - I am not looking forward to attaching eyelashes to my David's SA head. :doh I do look forward to more photos of your Nightcrawler though!
Cyador - Wow! He's fantastic! As for making his facial hair darker...perhaps a little around the middle and the bottom? Either way, I still love the work you've done already!

16. Looks great Cyador! I really love his skin texture.

17. Thank you all :) And I will have a look into make his goatee (or something) a little darker.

Opal - I hope your head is ok from falling over?

18. I'm ok so long as I don't keep coming back to look at your handsome, handsome fella! :)

19. He looks very elegant just like this, Cyador.

20. i like it the way it is to be honest...he just doesn't look like the kind of guys that would have denser facial hair! he's incredible though! i think i will redo my saint's faceup eventually as well.
@BlitheFool: great mods! i admire your courage! love the yellow eyes too
Quiet and Insane...is there anyone who does not despise and dread putting in eyelashes!!! i strongly dislike them..in fact my latest guys don't even have them.... probably never will. although in the realm of faceups, eyebrows are the biggest challenge in my opinion. though i gotta be honest....maybe my eyelashes aren't the greatest, but David looks better without eyelashes to me...he just needs a thin dark line on his upper eyelid and it doesn't look like he's lacking eyelashes at all.

speaking of Dollshe David <.< ....may i...?

21. Cyador - I like your Saint!!! He looks so cool with facial hair!!!
MaryamDN - I cannot get enough of seeing the Davids. Your headdresses are just the icing on the cake!!!!

Great job everyone!!!

22. I think I'll only bother with his SA head as I feel the eyes are too narrow on the OE head to bother. And given my crappy photography skills, less clutter around the eyes means better photos of said eyes (pretty, pretty blue eyes...)
Speaking of David...I got my shipping notice today! Already! I have no clothing whatsoever so it's panic stations over here. There is no way in hell he'd fit into any of the stuff I already have because all my other SDs are skinny buggers.

23. Quiet and Insane- Already?! Didn't you order him when the sale started? Or am I confusing you with someone else? If that's the case that's incredibly fast! Though I did get my Saint in 30 days flat. I actually got the shipping notice the day he arrived. Heh heh.

24. BlitheFool - I ordered him ten days ago (and that's including the weekend). I am absolutely astounded.

25. Holy cats, Quiet and Insane! That's amazing! Go Dollshe!

26. O.o So fast? OMG!! soo lucky! T.T .... they still don´t send me my David, and that I ordered him when the sale started. Maybe it was because I asked eyes :/

27. Maybe I should not show him too often? I could not possibly risk your health! But I had plans to make a background construction to do photoshoots with this summer? ;) :P

Julie M - thanx!

MaryamDN - thank you and I am looking forward to seeing your Saint. I think mine looks a bit creepy with denser facial hair :)
And your David is gorgeous! Did you make the wolfhead yourself? He looks supercool with it!

Quiet and Insane - congrats! That is fast! :) (thinking about all those people in 2011 and 2012 that had to wait for a year before they received their dolls).

-------------------------

And some (for me) big news: I ordered a Grant Phillippe last night and received the confirmation of my first payment this morning. I wanted the body for the new Nabarro´s head - but what if that does not look good? So I ordered a full doll - and now I have no idea which head will eventually receive which body (I also have a Venitu coming. This will probably be it for this year unless I figure out if I want to sell some of the dolls I have)

28. Oh my gosh, Cyador, please do share him, often! :) I adore Dollshe boys and have my Hound back, waiting for a face up.

29. Cyador thank you ^____^ yes i did. oh you already darkened his goatee? maybe it'll just take some time for you to get used to it? when i did the first faceup on my Saint's face i was super happy with it...then it fell out of my hand and i got a small chip in the faceup right on the nose so i had to redo the whole face. he just never looked the same :( so i've been putting off doing a third faceup for some time now. i'm waiting for a new can of MSC. here's a pic of him since he hasn't made an appearance in a few months :P i dont know if i've already shared this one.
Quiet and Insane I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats got to be a record time!!!! mine came in i think a month...i think <.<
he still feels new ^___^ and i love him even more! I'll tell you this right now though, the eyes on the David will make or break his whole face! it'll be really important to have the smaller irises (mine are 5mm that i make myself)...this guy has really small eyes so you have to get the iris size right for him to really shine!
mollym thank you ^_^

30. The same thing happened to my Saint. I had a nice face-up on him and chipped a rather large stripe of his cheek with my nail.... Alas, I think mine will have a new one every other year or so anyway. I do try to make a new face-up different from the previous one for I never get the old look back anyway.

I did darken his goatee a bit and want to redo it,, so it's good I did not seal it yet.

Does Grant Phillippe also have such small eyes???

31. i believe so...my David wears 10mm eye balls to fit his eye pits (from the inside of the head) but he actual eye opening is quite small...smaller and narrower than Saint's. so the eyes I made have 5mm irises to keep the eyes looking natural and bright during photography. I'm not really sure why dollshe says 14mm eyes for David...14mm barely even fits mine :/ 12 is the largest that can fit easily.....i got so tired of looking for affordable ones that i just made my own. unfortunately all the best eye sellers, like eyeco. charge a ridiculous amount, especially if you're paying in Canadian dollars. some dolls can get by with large irises...David is not one of them -_______-!
i wish SDink was more accessible, i think she'd know best since her photos are used on Dollshe's website.

32. What they told me I have to wait another 3-4 weeks becaus of huge amount of orders, and I ordered my doll 17/6. not cool Dollshe :(

33. BlitheFool - Needless to say I've been checking the tracking ever since. XD If he's not here by friday, he'll arrive Monday for sure!

glucosa - Yes, that might be it. Glass eyes do tend to take a little while. Yours might take a week longer or something.

Cyador - Yes, I can't believe how incredibly lucky I've been with this. I really do feel for everyone who has had to wait such long times for their dolls. Also, congratulations on ordering a Grant!

MaryamDN - I do love your Saint. :) I've got DollShe eyes for Ragnar; they're a beautiful light blue in 12mm. I bought his OE head last year with the eyes and I'm really looking forward to doing his face up(s) now.
Photo here: http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc152/wilted_flowers_and_dying_love/IMG_2484_zpsc4676f7a.jpg

Skogstoka - Oh that sucks. :(

34. MaryamDN, would you share another picture of your hybrid Amanda, pretty please? Allegedly mine is being packed and will be shipped some time this week - my second longest DollShe wait (sighs) - at over ten months. I love love love his dolls, though, but likely will not be one of the very first people to order a new sculpt again. I was one of the first three (I believe) to order David - and then Grant - but they didn't take anywhere near as long to arrive. I believe that David was in the six month vicinity, which isn't bad for DollShe. I've waited at least six months for another exceptionally well loved Korean dollmaker or two....

I did have a question for all and sundry. It has been my perception that there are still far more folks who have the 18M classics, i.e., the 70cm more slender DollShe guys, such as Hound, Husky, Saint, Bernard, etcetera, on the original and/or pure bodies than there are for the hero-bodied guys, i.e., David and Grant. I've drafted a set of slopers for David and Grant and have made a few historic outfits, but have concentrated on the more slender guys for an upcoming show. Does this seem to make sense, or is the number of hero bodied dolls expanding significantly enough to require a source for clothing for them? (I, personally, have seven guys with either the pure body or the original body, one with the 35 joints for whom I have not yet started to make slopers, and Grant and David.) And, if any of you have Venitu as well as the Pure body, can you please let me know if there are significant differences in their measurements?

Thanks so very much....

35. Julie M, I'm one of those folks who have not stepped up to the "hunk" plate at all. I have 11 tall boys on what I consider to be basketball-player bodies (70cm, broader chest but not hunks) -- three of them are DS Pure and others are Spiritdoll Proud and Luts SSDF, for the most part. I have one "hunk" but even he is small -- a Soom Megagem (think tall Iplehouse SID). I like looking at others' photos of the big guys but notice that they are often bare-chested or at least open-shirted. I think there's a reason for this -- they don't wear clothes as well as the basketball players, IMO. I love the way clothes drape on the slim-but-still-muscular bodies. Even my megagem is not particularly sexy in his outfit or posing.

Venitu is the one sculpt that almost made me break my vow not to get into the big hunk guys . . . But he's huge. If you look at photos of him and DS Pures, he's clearly in the hunk range and wears, according to the Venitu thread, EID pants. It's only his upper-body sculpting that gives an illusion that he's a smaller guy. The Dollstown 18 boy is a similar example.

I wish I was going to your show; I'd love to have more clothes for my guys. I hope I'm not in the minority!

36. AnitaS - Where are the photos of Venitu with DS Pures????

37. I have five 18M boys (Hound, IM Hound, SA Hound, and unpainted Saint and SA Saint), two on the Hound 1.5 body, the others on the no-belly-joint body.

In terms of dolls from other companies in this size range, I have four Model EIDs, an unpainted Venitu, and an Idealian.

The Dollshe 28m is a little too much doll for me, and neither of the heads has grabbed me in the same way as the older sculpts. If Mr. Kim wound up sculpting a head that was closer to the old-Dollshe, IpleHouse, or Idealian aesthetic, I might change my mind. As long as he's going with these very Italianate faces, I'm happy to admire them in other people's collections, but I'm not tempted to bring them home.

Honestly, really muscular dolls aren't my cup of tea -- the only reason I have EIDs is because I really love their face sculpts. I'm happy with a smoother, more stylized body type, although I'll make exceptions if I fall in love with a head that doesn't hybridize well.

What I'd *really* like is more clothing sources for Venitu -- he's a hard shape to fit!

-- A <3

38. @Julie M :p i dont own an Amanda hybrid......
i dont buy clothes for my dolls <.< but there's definitely a trend of larger dolls coming into the market and someone should really get on making more clothes their size O.o ...
@Ashbet i think dollshe is really good at both styles. honestly i love the realistic sculpts he has for the 28M. i dislike the girls so far, i don't think they live up to the same standards as Grand or David. but i also really loved the strange sculpts of Saint and Orijean...and i adored the 35 body ( though i only managed to get the 32)
Quiet and Insane ooh good! O.o yeah see the 14mm doe s not make sense to me at all! they really should correct that.

39. I own 3 Dollshe Pure bodies, and 1 Dollshe DS 35 S body. I was thinking of getting the 28m body if and when the Lewis sculpt comes out as I liked what was shown of him but nothing has come of it so far. I like the more muscular bodies, though. I just got 2 Granados on the Nuevo body and am planning to get one on their new Evol body. People on that group complain about not finding clothes for the massive calf muscles on their guys. I also have the Dollstown 18 yo boy body which has a big butt that takes customizing for pants to fit. The biggest difference in fit, I think, is leg circumference and buttocks or the lack thereof in the slender guys.
So far I am making most of my own clothes so it does not affect me but many people do struggle to find premade cloths for the buff guys.
My guys get along in a loin cloth or Dhoti until I make them pants. Lol.

40. Sorry! I'll have to go track back and see who posted her lovely Amanda Beauty hybrid! :)

Ashbet, I will eventually have Venitu, and he will be kitted out in (most likely) historic garb. I'll post pictures once I have him and have had time to do something about clothing him.

I actually do not do "mass consumption" clothing, because I haven't got the time to do so. The clothing I make is made exactly the way I do garments for adult males - indeed, it would be easier to make them full size and use a "shrink ray" to downsize them! <grins> Thus far, I've been "word of mouth", but with a few shows at which I have a vendor table. I may post pictures before I go to my next show - if I remember to do so!

41. Well, I will stay positive that they make him fast. They seems to manage to produce super fast if they get the chance. I will enjoy looking at your doll while waiting ;)

42. When I saw 14mm written I was suspicious, so I took a leap of faith and went down a size. I'm very glad I did, these eyes fit him very well with minimal gaps at the sides. Sorry for the silly angle of the photo, I was marveling at the transparency of his resin.

43. @Julie M I also have no 28M size boys. And my Saint and IM Hound are on the Pure body, and my Van is on the Rythmos body, so all I have are the skinny and super-skinny ones. :3 Now, I looooove the 28M range guys (mostly the body, as it is extremely drool-worthy), but the pricepoint kind of made me shy away. Although, I did buy my Saint during the Pure body release sale, and my Hound during another Pure body event sale a couple of year later, and then I had won second place in Dollshe's 10th anniversary mini-essay contest thingie, so they gave me a half-off coupon. So, I didn't spend more than $400 on each of them. So I guess I got my timing down so well with all that, that I ended up spoiling myself with sale prices, so now full price looks like too much to me. Besides, the proportions of the 28M body wouldn't fit in very well with any of my groups (at least that's what I'm telling myself *nodnod* #totallynotconvinced).

But to be honest, I'm glad that even though I think both Grant and David are gorgeous sculpts, they didn't jump out at me with a MUST HAVE kind of vibe like my other Dollshes did. :sweat Otherwise I might have needed to shell out the dough for them! >_> Which is to say, I hope I can hold out to not get one! I have other dolls that need completing first! XD

But in any event, I know I am seeing a lot more of the 28M boys popping up - so I'm sure there will start to be an increase in demand for clothing that fit them. I don't suppose EID clothes would fit, huh?

44. yea did the right thing! oh and i'm very curious as to how the skin plays out once the doll is complete! O.o but since you have a head and body now, how about some picturrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeees!!!!? :hamster:

45. Believe it or not, AirmirOfGondor, the EID Super Hero bodies are not quite the same as the 28M. What I noticed, when I began to design for the REALLY big guys, is that although the EID Model body and the Bishonen House body can share clothing, there isn't quite the same synchronicity between the 28M and the EID Super Hero, although contemporary wear knit tops will fit all four. I'll post pictures after the show at the end of July, once I have time to properly dress David and Grant.

46. Well, I saved a photo to my hard drive, but they're dressed and I didn't note where it came from. I did find a photo here but it's the even-skinnier Rhythmos and DSAM 32 body.

Julie M, that's Jo1961 with the Amanda/Ausley hybrid.

47. My 28M wears EID clothes. Apart from sleeve length, they are a pretty good fit. There is a thread somewhere abouts with what fits the 28Ms and EID clothing is so far the best choice. If anyone needs it, I will find the link.

48. He'll be hanging around at the post office until Monday no doubt - his tracking mentioned that he's landed in Melbourne, but the weekend came a little too fast for my liking. The most annoying thing is that Monday I'm out so I'll likely miss him and not be able to bring him home until Tuesday. Bleh. Waiting over the weekend is by far the worst part. Still, it's not stopping me from refreshing his tracking every hour or so. XD

49. PEOPLE! My Amanda is FINALLY here. It only took 10 months.

Pre-faceup pic.

Can't wait to paint her tomorrow. X3

50. She's very cool! That's the new body right? What's it like to pose?

51. *u* So cute stomach! She will look beautiful with makeup :aheartbea

52. Saaya-chan: beautiful girl! I really want one. she's on the top of my list. (well, after house, car, eyes, teeth. mine, not dolls') ;)
yes - bb piercing. let her show off that toned midriff. please more photos, especially in different poses. does she lean backwards when she sits? (it's so disappointing that even Dollshe dolls can't do the "Dollshe slouch" these days)

53. Thanks, AnitaS. She sent me a note. She's also got that absolutely spectacular Bernard female. Now I'm stalking various marketplaces hoping that an Ausley Love body crops up. However, now that my Amanda Beauty is finally on her way (she shipped yesterday, ten months to the day from when I ordered her), I could pop a Bernard head on that, just to see how it would look -- although I do intend to keep her intact. :)

Julie

54. What size clothing does Amanda wear?

55. Thanks people~ X3 I love her body. She poses well, but not like the old dollshe boys. I will try taking some pics today if I can.

Amanda is wearing EID clothes. She has a huge bum, so it can be tight.

56. Amanda is lovely indeed, some day I plan on getting a Dollshe female, before they disappear again.

57. This is a wise decision. It took me foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever to track down my Afghan after they were discontinued.

Saaya-chan, she's LOVELY and I can't wait to see her with a faceup!

58. That's exactly why I purchased the Orijean head during the final stock clearance even though I'm not sure I'll ever get a body for him. Well, that and it was a killer price.

59. :P absence makes the heart grow fonder :) i hope he'll be worth the wait!
I'm the same way when i'm waiting on a shipment i'm excited about!:)
Saaya-chan she's going to look amazing with that faceup...i gotta be honest i really didn't think she was very pretty at all witha blank face, but she really is very beautiful with her colours in place!
