Dollshe Discussion - Part Nine

Aug 13, 2016

    1. I think that's why when I ordered Bermann I chose the regular body and not the pose plus to be safe. His dolls pose really well anyway, but I was afraid the pose plus body would leave me stuck with any strange neck joint or something he would decide to make. Which he seems to like making recently it looks like. He did say he was going to keep the new bodies for Saint/Bermann thin and kind of lanky like they should be, so I'm not too worried about it being proportioned weird like the muscular ones.

    2. I asked on the Q&A board on 9/30 what the vampire feet and hands looked like, still NO answer although the majority of questions before and after me were answered.
Really is it too much to see what something looks like before purchasing it ? sheesh.

    3. Yes, yes it is. You will get what Dollshe gives you!

All hail the new Bermann! Shown here on the new Posing +++ 32 PDAM body!

But don't worry, people will do a faceup that will bring him alive!

    4. Gorgeous! I can't wait, ha ha!
But in all seriousness, it is kind of annoying that you have to wait to see it, and it doesn't make any sense that you have to pay before you see. If it were any other business they wouldn't get away with it. I guess I really will go with my old choice. But I am still curious to see if this really will all work out in the end.

    5. :XD::lol::lol::XD::XD::XD::XD::XD::XD::XD::lol::lol::lol::lol:

    6. Oh boy, I can see another sh!t storm coming our way.

      Dear Customers,

The Line Up dolls that we will no longer make will be provided with 30% off as Full Package until 30th October. All The Line Up Dolls will be sold until February 2017 for 4 rounds sales will be provided as the Basic component and there are extra fees for extra parts.

We put silicon packing into the mold so the life span of silicon mold is shorter.
That makes the production time longer. There are many reasons that we can’t provide them as Full Packages so please understand our decision.

      Thank you.

      Sincerely yours,
      DollShe craft

I don't know how I feel about this. In a way I don't care about the extra parts as long as I have one complete dolls, (eg. the SA head and other hand gestures. I guess for the girls I'd prefer different breast size and high heel legs to switch around, but for boys, meh)
I guess all the optional parts are nice to have, BUT I think they should at least honour that deal until February if the listed price is gonna include all the parts. If amazon tries to pull tricks like that people will sue their ass off. However DollShe is a Korean company, I'm not sure about how this thing's gonna work out on the legal side.

I don't really understand the silicon mold part. but I never worked with silicon casting before so there must be some technical issue that us common people can't understand.

It's been really shady with dollshe lately. Everything they do is just a quick cash grab, just look at how many Bermann pre-orders they got without even showing the actual doll (new face and body) Right now I just want to receive all my dolls and be done with this craziness.

    7. The full packages are a relatively recent phenomenon, probably thought with idea that it would streamline production if all orders included all the extras , rather than keeping track of what order had what extra parts.

As late as 2014 , the preorders for 28M grant phillippe and 18M Aramis , both with 30% discount, did not come with extras.

The 18M, with the exception of the sleeping faceplates for the dolls with faceplates, never had any extra hands or feet. That started with the 28M, and originally you had to order the extras separately.

Nothing really shady about that; they just figured out that including the extras did not simplify things after all.

    8. @MAITALIA well, I mean taking pre-order without even showing the finished face and the body, and only offers discount before the photos are shown that's kinda shady. I think it's fair if they want to charge more for the extra parts. But a deal is a deal, going back on their words is kinda shady. Actually this is not the first time they changed that deal. Not long ago they announced that they are not gonna do the 4th round of the 30% sale and they are ending it by December, however they reinstated the offer like 2 weeks after.

The pricing of Khan is very confusing too. It says on the site:

We provide the Full package at $890 during only we will show the prototype. The full package all composition included is $1370.

but when you go to the order page and choose all the options, it is $926.00 after 30% discount.

I don't know how well they are doing in terms of doll business, but to me they seem VERY desperate. Like doing sale event after another just for some quick cash. (30% on 28M 26F, then 50% on 18M TWICE). And the celebrity dolls are like 100 dollars more expensive than the regular dollshe creation.

Seeing all this I'll have to think Dollshe may not be doing as well as they used to.

    9. I know there's a language difference, but with Mr K, it's more of a species thing. I never know what the heck he's talking about.

    10. He's done a that before when he announced the new pure body; we all got it, eventually.
He changed the pricing and presentation features khan and, obviously, somebody forgot to doublecheck the math.not an unusual occurrence with Dollshe ,and some of the other bjd artists.
Based on his eccentric business practices , and frequent "last sales", people have been predicting that Dollshe is not doing well , and is on his last legs , since 2010-11.this is understandable, given the tortuous history and confusion of a very talented artist, I can understand said predictions.
Yet, He is still here and we get our dolls .Eventually.

This has always been the way , when dealing with Dollshe, and it has not changed despite the criticism and dire predictions. It works, albeit dysfunctionally.

one just has to think the situation over and decide if it's worth putting up with a he shenanigans.

    11. It looks like the full package dolls, with all the extras, will only be offered until the end of october.the dolls will still be available until February to purchase, but they will be basic, and the extra parts will have to be purchased separately,as they once did before.

It took me a while to figure out too!!

    13. I've been quietly watching this thread and with each decision Mr K makes I'm becoming more and more lost. I can't keep up with how many projects and sales he has on the go!

I'm now a little concerned that the orders placed for the 18M line up may get mixed up with this most recent sale? Will extra parts be included in the orders placed throughout the 50% off sales (I'm talking about the SA and OE face plates here)? I'll go and ask on the Q&A board...

    14. Hurry up folk! Last orders, please!

    15. When this current limited sale thing started in May, there was a heavy implication that what would be received WOULDN'T be the full package. (Apologies that I didn't save any posts about it for comparison, but I remember specifically talk of the orders being basic orders with head and body only.) When I ordered in May, I was under the impression that I sadly wouldn't receive the full package, but made my order with that in mind.

So when he revealed that the orders would be the full package a short time afterwards, I was pretty overjoyed!

I get the impression that these limited rounds were never meant to be full package. They didn't start out that way, and it looks like they're going back to being basics. I think full package was to streamline orders - as has been said already in this thread - but it probably causes a lot of fuss and uses up a lot of materials to do it. So full package is more like a happy bonus that people in the first and second rounds have ended up getting, but was never originally intended to be offered.

    16. Oh god I'm so confused. I thought that I couldn't get more confused by all of this but I was wrong. :aeyepop:

So the latest notice... that's about the 28M and 26F lines, yes? Mr. Dollshe's claiming that: A) He's not going to make them anymore after selling the last of them, and B) That they'll only be available as full packages until the end of October, is that the case?

I'm seriously questioning my reading comprehension skills when I read one of Dollshe's notices, someone please clarify it all for me. >_>

    17. Frankly, I'm not going to get my knickers in a bundle over this last set of communications.
      1. Re full sets -- we didn't have full sets at the beginning -- why will we worry about not getting full sets later? It isn't trickery, and it certainly isn't anything worth fuming about. It's up to DollShe what DollShe wants to offer. I'm probably not the only DollShe enthusiast (read "fanatic") who rarely, if ever, changes any of the parts out -- although I might, with the kids, because the hand sets are so ... darn ... cute!
      2. Re sales, then no sales, then 30%, then 50%, then back to 30%, and occasionally fully price ... we know that this is the DollShe way. DollShe ain't for sissies!
      3. Long ago I realized that either this was the most clever businessman of all -- keeping his flock constantly off balance -- or no sort of businessman at all. We can't change him. And frankly, if the choice were savvy and consistent businessman or brilliant artist, I'd take the latter ... every ... darn ... time.

    18. @Dybbuk - As someone who still considers them self to be relatively new (at least where DollShe's previous history is concerned), this whole thing has been confusing, alarming, but eye opening.
Heh, sounds about right for a book title. ;)

      @SalmonNugget - Amen to that!

      @SteamWitch - Ooh Thorne looks good! :D

@dollhausen - Ahaha, nice! XD Such a sleek looking body. ;)

    19. Having just caught up on this thread now that I've had a couple days for the excitement of my purchase to settle...

I'm thinking that I should probably buy a seatbelt to buckle in for the next 4 months-heat death of the universe, and probably ignore the Dollshe blogs to save my nerves.

I have a lot of respect for those of you who have gotten back on this ride multiple times.

    20. @Quiet and Insane : Agreed. Even in 2007 there was crazy Bermann hoopla! Seems like some things never change :XD:

@SilverWinglie : Hope everything goes smoothly. Last time I purchased from Dollshe was in 2012 when wait times were estimated at about a year... got mine in 4 months. :P I hope everyone has a positive outcome with their purchase.

    22. @taecelle your girl is gorgeous! Lovely faceup :)

    23. Presently I am leaning heavily toward getting a fashion Saint. If I like the face and it would fit into the bjd universe around here, then it's pretty much a done deal ( I would prefer Venitu, but.....). I was saving some layaway/ start-up funds for the 16F body, that I would prefer to Saint. With all of the open ended questions we all have, I don't know if I should hold out for 16F or go ahead and order Saint. Surely I will end up with both, but hopefully not on order at the same time. I kinda feel that if I like it, I need to get it NOW! Who knows what the future holds, and I might miss out on a doll altogether.

    24. With all the crazy stuff he's got going on I figure I've got a year to save up for a 16F body and the Natalie Portman head. There's nothing he's offering now that is interesting to me other than possibly getting a 26F body. But the way he's going he might interject five more sculpts between now and then. And I'm not ordering anything sight unseen. Nope. No way.

    25. @SalmonNugget silicone molds supposedly give a better cast but because of the flexible nature of them they are more prone break down and show wear and tear.

@taecelle she is so beautiful. I wake up every morning hoping for my shipping notice for my Amanda.

    26. SilverWinglie ... if you ordered a doll and delivery was promised by January ... you really should put on that seatbelt. January is very, very, very unlikely....

    27. Ain't dat da truuth.
Trying to work out logic with Dollshe is mindboggling. It's like staring into a whirling circle for hours. Sometimes his shipping is totally random as well. It's like he drew names out of a hat.
I wasn't expecting all the parts. I ordered a 22cm Rosa and got an email saying that he was having trouble casting the hands and until he got it worked out, he would send me the larger (and more expensive) Rosa. She arrived and was a fullset. I may eventually get the 22cm Rosa, although with all the projects, I'm guessing that it will take a while, but the full package of the larger Rosa is awesome. So many hands and feet. My kids helped me unpack her and were making endless gestures with the hands for half an hour. I've gotten my money's worth out of her already. I'm now trying to decide between a Rey Lewis and Grant Phillippe. I want a sculpt that I can dress in both modern and historical clothing and I'm leaning more towards Grant at present.
I'm going to be a dollshe fan no matter what. I've received so many little extras for the wait that I feel I'm way ahead. With my 22cm Rosa, he could have just issued a refund, instead he gave me a larger and more expensive doll and promised to ship the one I ordered once he has worked out the bugs. That's pretty damned awesome and I don't think many companies have customer service like that any more. Yes the waiting times are annoying but these days almost every company takes months so I just go off and do something else for six months or so and the time passes rather quickly.

    28. Oh, I know it!

    29. I got a tracking number for the G Philippe I ordered in December 2015!!! Yay!

    30. Hah! Congrats!
I was hoping to get a notification this week so I can work on it next week since it's term break in my school. lol
I guess I'll just go back in line and wait then lolololol

    31. My Grant also shipped this morning! Gaaah, so excited :cheer Aaaand now it's time to shop some clothes for him = bye-bye to the money I had saved up for my next doll! But he's worth it :aheartbea

      • x 3
    32. Congrats on shipping notices! I really hope to get mine soon!

    33. These Grants shipping, are they just standard ones or Pose+? If standard, why the hell did it take so long?

    34. Mine is on the L1 but I ordered him in May, so the wait really wasn't as long as I thought it would be. When I wrote to Dollshe in early September and asked when they would ship my Grant they said that they had planned to send him in August but that the production had been delayed. Maybe a lot of people(including me) panicked when Dollshe said that they would discontinue a lot of dolls and that have caused a huge backlog? Sure, my wait wasn't that long, but to wait like 10 months for a standard doll? That is a veeery long time.

    35. Hm. Five months for a standard doll is too long. We expect the 12 month wait for a grey, but that should never have taken that long. Ah well. On we go.

And congrats. The 28Ms are things of beauty.

      • x 1
    36. Indeed, but I'm just glad I didn't have to wait even longer for him!

And thanks! He's my first Dollshe and my grail, so I'm very, very excited :dance Though I am a bit scared that he will be so amazing that my other dolls will seem plain and soulless next to him :sweat

    37. i also got mine in May :-/ fingers crossed. I would really love to get it shipped this week so i can have the whole week to work on the face up while the kids are out lol (i work in a school, and it's mid term break next week)

    38. I hope it happens for you @SalmonNugget !

The amount of times I've checked my inbox is probably bordering on obsessive now. XD :wantshipping:

    39. @Dybbuk - The joys of dealing with DollShe.

      @taecelle - She's lovely! :)

@MadamMauMau - Good question. I changed my order from the L2 to L1 to see if it would speed things up (though a layaway really isn't all that speedy when you think of it). I added a pair of eyes too...perhaps that's why I'm still waiting at least. :wantshipping:

    40. hahaha i was thinking to same @Quiet and Insane I think mine is delayed because I also ordered an extra pair of arm. (I got the L2, but I also order the L1 arms)

    41. I just picked up myAmanda today and I'm in love :D she has such a presence even blank, like she's just waiting to come alive and walk across the room. All the praise for Dollshe quality is 100% spot on, she feels so heavy but silky smooth and I swear I spent like 10 minutes just studying the different hand parts...

I didn't get really good pictures but I still did a box opening. Going to see if I can't get it up tonight and hopefully take some decent pictures of her tomorrow

    42. I just got shipping notices on King Corey Pose Plus and David Kucci L1 so finally seeing some movement in my orders. Poor Ray Lewis was ordered before those so they are not chronological but that doesn't surprise me.
Oh, and fool that I am, I ordered yet another Dollshe: Arsene has been growing on me and I suddenly got that "what if he really does get discontinued" feeling. And I do like that 18m body in case future one gets more wonky.

      • x 6
    43. @Therealwalter !! Possibly one of the first or the first King Corey to go out? Congrats! :D I can't wait to see owner pictures!

    44. @Therealwalter

Omg, you must post pics of Corey when he gets home! He is definitely a handsome boy.

Happy to see people getting their shipping notices!!!

    45. Walter, that is excellent news. Yes, first King Corey that I have heard of. You must give us the lowdown on the L4 body. I have great hopes for it.

    46. :sumomo:Ningyoboy's closet on Flickr has posted the first owner pictures of King Corey that I have seen. I am terribly excited to get mine very soon.:sumomo:

    47. I wanted to be patient sooo much. And I must say, I m. I never waited for doll more than like 6 weeks or so. So today I ask Dollshe, when they start to shipp Compensation orders. I ordered 2 and half month ago so Even if they start shipp soon I ll still have some wait time before me. :-)

    48. i don't think the old 18M boys are ready to cast actually lol

    49. Dollshe's news:

THERE ARE ANSWERING DELAYING DUE TO AMOUNT OF INQUIRY MAILS BEFORE/AFTER RE-RELEASING BERMANN

      Dear Customers,

There are answering delays due to the amount of inquiry mails before/after re-releasing Bermann. There are more than 10 times the inquiries from email, Q&A Posting, Comments so we have no choice but to stop all processing of dolls that wouldn’t be happening.

We try give you an answer quickly but most of the answers haven’t been made before. So, it is being delayed because I need to wait for them to be translated. After that I can read them and give an answer one by one.

I will let you know who wins the lottery among someone. Please give me your thought next week after I give all the answers for you.

Thank you for being interested, it is more than I thought there would be. Also, sorry for the answers being delayed again.

      Sincerely yours,
      DollShe craft

So is he stopping the casting of dolls (which ones anyway?) or is he saying that answering every email will take time? :huh?:

    50. stop all processing of dolls that wouldn’t be happening.
like all that has not started casting already? pretty sure he said the silicon molds of the new 18M Arsene are still being made, and it will take about 3 weeks.

also, why would they have to stop making dolls all together? unless they ask all the labour to get on google translate and answer all the questions?

      This makes zero sense.

    51. So... what dolls are he stopping? And lottery? What am I missing out on now?

    52. I hope it doesn't mean stopping casting of any dolls, I was getting super excited for mine!

    53. @indigoparaflax when he first asked for our opinions on remaking Bermann, he said he'll pick one lucky fan who leaves a comment. and he or she can pick any doll they want. not sure if you can pick colour though lol

    54. This must be it. He is translating every comment so that he can choose the person he wants to send the free doll to. :nowords:
All hands must be on 'google translation' at the moment.

    57. I was wondering about the "stop all processing of dolls that wouldn’t be happening." I had to check my eyes and made sure that I didn't misread, since wouldn't it make more sense to stop with the personalized responses? XD

Ah well, waiting for my honey resin fashion pose+ Grant, I don't think I'd quite make the 1 year club at this point but will probably come close with these delays. XD

    58. The takeaway from this is ... do NOT dash to that website and ask even MORE questions about whatever will be stopped so that he can answer our incessant questions, right? The poor guy. He is doing much better with English than I'd do with Korean.

Rule #1 about ordering DollShe. It is not for the weak of heart or the impatient. DISREGARD whatever it says on the website about delivery time. Send in your money. Be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait.

The wait will be worth it.

    59. Precisely @Julie M since the Korean to English translation of this message hits our ears wrong, just wait for him to answer one on one and don't add to his message translator's workload.
