Dollshe Discussion - Part Eleven

    1. Arsene spam. Changing wigs on Robin since his isn't here yet. Pjs and a teddy. :XD:

    2. Therealwalter -- I think what we would have to agree upon is that no two human beings are entirely in sync with what they consider beautiful. For instance, many people who others would consider classically beautiful leave me entirely cold. They don't move me. I'm not interested in looking upon them. Even that which is considered classically beautiful differs from culture to culture.

<NOTE ASIDE ... OH FOR PETE'S SAKE ... PHOTOBUCKET IS SOOOOO SLOW THIS MORNING!> Rant volume down....

David Kuncii, with apologies for the horrible wig (without which you would actually be able to SEE his upper eye structure and brow ... sighs): [IMG]

      Michaelangelo's David: [IMG]

As duly noted by ... I think Meiselmaus, above, Michaelangelo's face is rounder - more boyish. However, his eyes aren't necessarily smaller ... they are more opened and less elongated teardrop shaped. Oddly enough, the "classical" standard of beauty tells us something, too. At least today, It is difficult to have a muscular body and a rounded face simultaneously. Perhaps that was about the typical diet?

DollShe David's face does look longer -- somewhat "horsey," again, as Meiselmaus has stated ... but that might be a function of the fact that his face is narrower, which draws the eye up and down rather than across.

And for another comparison -- a photograph of a Korean man -- not sure who he is, or if he's a famous movie star or just a dangerous looking person on a beach somewhere, but his face looks longer because he is very lean, and his facial planes are more pronounced, like DollShe David's are.

    3. @Julie M Yes " facial planes " , this is most prominent from my observation! Also I agree on the Dollshe Renaissance portrait faces, Ausley Love is my fave example. I love to gaze at my David's face before and after bed time too. Endlessly interesting.

Lmao Well its good to have someone that I see around LOL Diving into a convo with strangers is a bit intimidating ahhh.
But wow! I didn't know that! Is that why they cost so much more? o: A friend of mine warned me that it'd be much harder to get a resin match for honey skin match though o)-<

      @MadamMauMau
      Haha, same for me too! I'm a bit of a stickler on art related things so if it's not on point then im gonna fixate on the stuff I dont like...which i guess happens to be the eyes this time around. Maybe I'll grow to like them in the future though! My plan to get a dollshe is still v. far in the future because of how pricey they are ;-;
You're totally right on the medici though! I forgot they had a really distinctive facial structure. I was thinking that the dollshe sculpts were a little bit more like uhhh benedict cumberbatch not in terms of having his structure but just that they would have that same level of uniqueness to their faces in real life.

      @Julie M
If I remember right, there's 3 distinct categories called mesomorph, ectomorph and endomorph. And no matter how much an ectomorph exercises, he'll never get that same ripped appearance as an endomorph because theyre fundamentally different body types so the muscles (Think: spiderman vs captain america vs hulk). That might be the difference for the roundness.

Though I think for the statue of david, it's not a particularly fair comparison? Since david was never created to be viewed at eye level. You can see from here that his proportions are top heavy to account for perspective and etc.
You can also see that david and dollshe faces are stylized rather than idealized here:
      [IMG] [IMG]
David's mouth is about the size of his nose haha. Which I guess means his eyes are about as big as his mouth/nose too. Mr dollshe does a lot better on that front where it looks like the 1 mouth = 2 noses and the nose = mouth.
Just my two cents on idealization vs stylization though! I never noticed how small david's mouth was before this haha.

BoneLace, I love it when we get into discussions like this! <grins> Yes, I didn't want to get too much into the weeds with body structure but yes, there are endomorphs, ectomorphs, and mesomorphs -- as well as combination body types. Even so, what a person consistently eats, diet-wise, has a huge impact on bodily structure. Note on the slender Korean man, his trapezoids are not as bulked up as many western people sometimes manage (with hard work and perseverance!). That is more likely because of diet and how much sculpting he is actually able to achieve, i.e., genetics.

    6. Sorry to jump into a big discussion and be OT, but I'm looking at this """discontinuation"""" sale and wondering if it might be finally time to get a body for my weirdo Another Secret Shadow King head. he arrived way more pin-headed and peculiar than i expected, and after trying him recently on my Classydoll 66cm body, i think it calls for something way more angular and lanky.

At the time i got the head, the DSAM32s and 35s were pretty new, and the extreme jointing seemed right for the 'oddity' i had in mind, but there wasn't a lot of info around, and I got told that you couldn't hybrid non-dollshe heads onto that body.... is that really true? In a lot of ways i like the size and general aesthetics of the Old Hound body better, but I worry that even the Shadow King's little head might be bobble-ish on it. I also hear it's a frustrating body to pose. Any thoughts on hybriding either of those two bodies?

I've never been part of the dollshe madness, though, so I really don't know what I'm getting into. It's also not a great time for me to be buying a body, so I'm hoping he's bluffing on it being the "last" again. But then again these sale prices are lower on these classic bodies than i've ever seen on the MP, so it seemed like some research was in order. (i'm so confused though! @___@)

Here's a pic of the head I'm trying to hybridize, hope that's okay bc he's a bit off topic, but I thought it might be useful for reference as it's a weird rare head (see under the spoiler cut):

    7. I actually have that one head, and a 32/35s body. From memory, the head won't find on the body without modding, because it's been made for a SD17 body and the neckhole is too small. And mine turned REALLY yellow so it does not match any of Dollshe's colors.
If that doesn't deter you, I can try to snap a quick phone picture (I can't promise anything too fancy since I'm moving :/)

    8. that's interesting that the neck doesn't fit. The measurements i found say that the SD17 body has a 12cm neck, and the Dollshe bodies have 10.5 and 11cm necks respectively. So theoretically, if you had the SD17 body the head was designed for, it still wouldn't fit. I'll have to get out the calipers and measure the inner circumference once his coating is dry ://

My head is yellow, too, but it hasn't yellowed. It came that way fresh from the company. I was very disappointed when it showed up that way, but I still like the sculpt a lot and I've learned how to use cyan shading to change the look.

I'd still be curious to see the two things together, just to see how impossible my idea is if nothing else :sweat

    9. @Lirin i think that your hybrid could works, i love the idea of the two easthetics put together, i love your idea :love
I think that smaller neck is fine, you can add something to make it fits, a larger neck to me would be an issue: i had an Elfdoll Rita head and i planned for her an AprilStory body, i found that neck was too thick for her, so i decided to enlarge neck socket from head cause i would've have same problem with Rita head with every type of body, no matter what:lol:
So back on the matter to me your hybrid would works. :thumbup

    10. Here's the requested picture: Instagram post by Ivelia • Apr 3, 2017 at 6:09am UTC
(Sorry I can't do much better than a quick phone pic though)
As you can see, proportion wise it could work, but the neck is a bit long IMHO. On the profile picture, can you see that it's a bit gaping? That's because the Dollshe neck is actually kinda flat on top (so without modding I'd be worried about the long term stress put on the inner sides of the neckhole). So if you made that part on the neck slightly rounder, it would enhance mobility (the head is not super stable perched like this...) and looks since it would shorten the neck.

      • x 1
    11. @Ivelia Also enlarging a little the head hole could helps, imo. Thanks for the piccies :)

    12. Thanks! It boggles me that they didn't put this information on the new sale page for those of us that didn't see it last time. T_T
I wrote them asking if I can cancel the separate SA head. I guess it's all good even if they won't, I'll just give the two SAs different expressions or something.

    13. Soooo...face ups on Honey resin....
I have Rey Lewis, Venitu and am waiting for Amanda. They are all in honey Resin and I am starting to look at face ups and suitable artists. Guessing that the Honey resins are a little different to work with ( correct me if you know otherwise) and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for face up artists. Thanks:)

    14. I highly recommend matahata. She is amazingly talented, super versatile, and works exceptionally with all kinds of resin colors. I don't know if she's done anything on Dollshe's Honey skins before, but I've no doubt that she'll excel at it. She's here on DoA and Flickr, the latter of where you can see her superb work. :D

Oh, I forgot to add, her prices are very reasonable for the quality of work that she does, and that's taking into account international shipping costs!

    15. No one that has gotten shipping notice the last couple of days?
Please spread a little "shipping will happen for you to" hope :-)

    16. I've got roughly a dozen and a half dolls painted by Angel Toast and I just love her work. I'm planning on sending my Dollshe boy to her to paint as soon as my doll funds recover from purchasing one of the bodies. Buff does lovely work as well and has painted several of my guys, too.

    17. I haven't had any Honey Resin painted, but I can't recommend Vitta Vera enough as a faceup artist. She's painted all of my dolls that were pro cast by Dollshe (pretty much all my dolls really) and she's super great to work with.
(recently she painted this handsome devil and this lovely girl for me)

    18. So.. this is a little bit late, but my Aramis, Noel, is finally complete!! I did his faceup myself, with some help from my mom (who is a great faceup artist), and finally got his wig and eyes. I love him so, so much! He's my perfect, beautiful broken songbird. <3

      • x 7
    19. Thank you so much! <3 I love him completely. Honestly he's so much more beautiful than I could have imagined.. :D

    20. thanks for the pics.... i agree that the scale works with the head and that the neck would need modding. Honestly, to me the DSAM35 neck looks long even with dollshe heads. For sure it would need to be reshaped to work with the ANS head. But though I've done quite a bit of modding over the years, i'm not sure i'm comfortable making changes to such a rare body from such a respected dollmaker, even if I do get it on sale.

I was also asking about the Old Hound Style body... does anyone know if the 10.5cm measurement for the neck is right? I know the Hound body has posing issues. But it's so classic and those hands are unmatched. And is probably much easier to find clothes for. Much less alien-insect-oddity though :c

    21. Kilian recently got an IOS70 body, now he has Ringdoll jointed hands and a SA faceplate is on it's way. He is one spoiled boy. This is what happens when I say no more dolls, all the dolls I have get upgrades.
[IMG]Kilian new hands by SteamWitch, on Flickr

    22. omg, i just got out the calipers and the calculator and found out that while ANS advertised their Shadow King head as for "SD17/Spirit Doll Proud" his real neck circumference is 9.2 cm as calculated from the narrowest point under the ears. and as a neck can't be any bigger than that.... none of the dollshe bodies will work.

But damnit, i've had it in my head that Hollow Cole will be on a DSAM33/35 for five years now, so he will be. He's just not going to be the ANS head. So now i'm trying to decide if I want to get the Hound head or the Saint head. What do you guys think? I'm slightly leaning towards Saint because of all the great ones i've seen out there, but maybe he's too lovely? Hound might be better for "odd not-quite-human fantasy character." This is weird for me, i usually go for the head and figure out the rest later. But I've pictured this character having the dollshe slouch forever and the sale is too good, so I now have to kind of pick a head without prior strong attachment to them :sweat

does anyone know which Saint would be the one they're selling in this event? I prefer the 2012 one over the "new" saint with the tiny eyes...

@roserising your Aramis is beautiful! i like how you did his eyes especially :)

@SteamWitch yay jointed hands! I always think they add so much to a doll's expressiveness

    23. @Lirin - I've been specifying head cap/old or face plate/new versions for the faces that have both without problems.

    27. Wow!

    28. hi everyone. someone knows about stores that make clothes for the arsene size?

    29. If you've ordered Arsene in the last two months, I think you would be happy, I have just received note of mine being shipped today, I placed the original order on 1 February 2017, then changed my mind about three times regarding what colour to get, finally settled on Oriental on 2 March, so he can swap hands with my Venitu, and then slipped in an order for 2 extra heads just a week ago too, but all of that are getting shipped together. So yeah, seems like wait times are definitely improving !

    30. @roserising - Noel is so beautiful! :D Your mum does fantastic face ups! Is that oriental resin?
      I love Max's new wig too! :)

@SteamWitch - Nothing wrong with a few upgrades. ;) He looks pretty pleased with those hands too!

    31. I ordered mine Christmas eve and still no shipping notice. Graaaah, lol. You're lucky!!

    32. Probably SID sized clothes but still a bit off. He has a long torso and shorter legs than other Dollshe sculpts plus he is so big around.
Here is a comparison between the 18M Pure body and Arsene's body. I put it in the spoiler because of a frontal nudity on Bernard.:blush

    33. Thank you :D Noel is the copper oriental tone :) Max is fresh. The regular oriental tone is a lot paler than the copper oriental (Noel's boyfriend Isidore is in the oriental skintone). Here's a picture of Isidore (he's a Husky), just because I can:

    34. I know how this feels. I had a similar occurrence. I was able to contact the post office who tracked the package for me and confirmed the tracking number and address. Turns out it was delivered to a different address. You may have already tried this, but thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck!

    35. @roserising Do you have a picture with all three guys in it? They are gorgeous. :D

    36. @Doko thank you! I'll have to get a group photo tomorrow if it's sunny... there are actually six of these big lugs in my apartment lmao! (I have a Saint, Bernard and Aramis, and my girlfriend has a Saint, IM Hound and Husky) I've been meaning to get a group photo done anyway :D

    37. It may well be that yours is either being produced now or they have actually shipped it but didn't send out the EMS notice. They do this a lot and a few times parcels just turn up at ppl's doors. I know he's recently made a fresh batch of moulds so I imagine he would be putting them out right now. Especially if you ordered in the popular colours like Oriental or Fresh, and you haven't ordered anything else, it would be very soon.

    38. Ooh yes! I would be most interested to see this photo :)

    39. so, I've decided on Rosen. He's a bit like Hound, but a more complex sculpt in some ways. I like his nose better anyway... I plan on modding the eyes open a tiny bit though. I really like Saint, but given his extreme popularity, I'm sure I could get a head or a full doll second hand sometime later, whereas I don't see nearly as many Rosens around and I bet he would be much harder to find if I went with Saint and then changed my mind.

the only thing left to decide is if it's better to order from Dollshe directly or use the dealer.... I'm in the US, so it's less of a difference in some ways, but domestic shipping would be nice. idk. thoughts?

    40. I hope you're right! Though technically it's not really Arsene I'm waiting for, but the body for my LLT Neil. I'm still going to paint the Arsene head for fun though, lol

    41. Oh! The Neil would work so wonderfully with the Oriental colour :) all the best with that, your Neil is so cuuute!

    42. does anyone know if or how the elf green or avatar blue might react to natural light? I'm thinking about getting a head in each of the 2 colors...

which leads to my 2nd and 3rd questions: are mirodoll and resinsoul the ones who would color match? I have a miro girl body I'm going to try as soon as I get home but any thoughts on any of the female resinsoul bodies for Bernard hybrid? seems like the shoulders might too narrow?

thanks in advance for any input! ^^

    43. It happened! My Saint I ordered at the start of August is home. No pictures yet, since the clothes I ordered for him aren't scheduled for shipping until next week and I'm still on a wig hunt.

A question for people whose orders are coming in: Did anyone else in the delayed Feb shipping group get an extra head? There was a SA tucked in with him, and I didn't order one. I want to make sure I didn't receive someone else's doll by mistake. I did have a couple of problems with my order along the way (Which were handled quickly), but from my understanding Dollshe doesn't throw in extras like this too often.

    44. If you ordered the full doll then you got both heads, that was the offer and why so many ordered at the time.
@ATYL Yes those are the two that resin match and the tall Resinsoul female body does have very narrow shoulders. Though Bernard has a small head so the 68cm female might work but I'd try the Mirodoll new female body.

    45. No reason not to use a dealer imo, unless you've got enough points in your Dollshe account to offset the difference in shipping costs. You'd be looking at paying $15-$20 for domestic shipping instead of what, like, $80 for shipping from Dollshe? x_x

    46. Going through a dealer often increases the wait time, though. I figure Dollshe will make me wait long enough, so I ordered direct. Then at least it will ship right when it's done being made, and not get held up by a bunch of other peoples' dolls!

    47. Does the membership ranking discount work for anyone? It says it's automatic, but I have never seen it work on any of my orders.

    48. @roserising - I literally own two copper orientals and I failed to notice that. Shame on me. :doh Copper oriental always looks darker to me because I have a lot of very pale dolls, so i tend to think of it as a light tan rather than a dark-ish normal. Oh Isidore's just adorable. I love that grumpy Husky expression. :)

    49. The membership discount works for me now but I had to email to tell them to up it to silver. They did not do it without prompting. Once they changed it it seems to be applied automatically.

    50. My 1% was deducted automatically but since it was so small all I could do was laugh. Still it was reduced by 1% lol.

    51. Hi, just wanted to chime in to offer some insight from an "insider perspective"! ;) While some dealers do wait for a batch of orders before placing them, not all dealers do that. Furthermore, different dealers will have a different schedule for the placement of orders. For instance, a certain day of each week is a common ordering method that dealers use, although some place all the orders they receive at the end of every business day, or even as soon as an order comes through to them. This additional information might be helpful if any of you consider going through a dealer for Dollshe: we've asked Dollshe about how they'd ship in the situation in which an order contains dolls with existent molds and dolls that aren't ready to cast yet, and Dollshe told us that they'd send dolls as soon as they're ready, so finished dolls wouldn't be sitting around waiting for unfinished ones in the same order to complete.

That being said, you are absolutely correct that going through the dealer would increase the wait time, because the company ships to the dealer, who then ships to the customer. However, the delay in the process of going through a dealer is more dependent on each dealer's approach, so it's important to find one that's right for you. :3nodding:

    52. Okay! So I got out my camera and took a couple of group shots of the big boys (my back is killing me now from all the carrying lmao) and here they are! Apologies for my messy home in the background of the shot, I only have so many spaces I can take pictures here..

Back row (L-R) is Isidore (Oriental Dreaming Husky) and Lincoln (Pale Tan IM Hound)
Front row (L-R) is Max (Fresh Saint) and Noel (Copper Oriental Aramis)
Seated (L-R) is Cason (Ebony Saint) and Luke (Fresh Bernard)

Max, Noel and Luke are mine; Isidore, Lincoln and Cason belong to my fiancee @Hakura0. We have one more boy on the way (Isidore's twin brother) but we're waiting on his body from Dollshe now :)

:D I love these boys so much.

    54. Love all the photos that are occasionally being posted here :) you all have gorgeous dolls!

@BJDivas I am curious about how dealership with Dollshe works. What is the draw that makes people want to be Dollshe's dealers? What are the benefits of being a Dollshe dealer versus me as an individual placing an order for 10 Arsenes for example to be sold as stock in my own shop? Do you get special priorities or in the event of problems with quality, etc you are covered by Dollshe as opposed to having to resolve it by yourself? Thanks :)

    55. Hrmm, in light of the low price I'm painfully tempted to revive my old long-shelved plans for a pale tan guy... Or the new(ish) lovely copper oriental colour...

Hrmm and if I do take the plunge it's between two rather different visions - Aramis vs a difficult sculpt decision between Hound, Rosen, or Pabo?

Stupid brain. I do not need to add to my group, I need to finish the guys I've already got to a semi-decent standard! (Guiltily contemplates the blank Venitu still in his box...)

    56. Thanks for the picture, @roserising :D It's great. :thumbup

Congrats, @SteamWitch I look forward to seeing sleepy Kilian painted. :whee:

I was wondering about the Membership Ranking. If "Silver – Owners who own more than 5 genuine DollShe dolls", only means full dolls or if just heads counts as well?

    57. My Bermann order I later changed to amanda has shipped, so I read about their shipping info, and OMG did I laugh.
