Dollshe Discussion - Part Eight

Apr 21, 2016

    1. Congrats! @Wittyilynamed :cheer I'm very interested in seeing pictures and the box opening. ;)

@SteamWitch, The wig I found is an 8-9. Do you think that will work or should I try to find a 7-8 wig instead?

    2. It might look okay but to keep it in place would be a trick. I use the thick padding moleskin a one inch strip on the forehead behind the hairline and one at the nape of the neck should keep it in place. Since you don't have him and you haven't bought the wig (I assume) I'd try to find a 7-8 with stretch.

    3. Congrats @Wittyilynamed Just out of curiosity, when did you order her?

    4. @SteamWitch Ok, I will start searching for a 7-8 wig now then. Thank you! :abow:

    5. Congrats on the incomings. This must all be keeping Mr Dollshe pretty busy.

For any who are interested, the Glazki consignment.

Sizing, 15mm base size fits the old Saint and Bernard pretty well and can be turned to the side without gaping. 11mm fits the big Kuncci well. However, because the eye opening goes all the way to the edge of the eye well as these eyes have a clear dome of plastic over a white base, you can see through the dome at the side, so it looks like a gap or shadowing at the inner and outer corners (I really didn't describe that well).

In terms of iris size, it's a matter of taste. I like small irises so got all these in small size. For me, the small iris in a 15mm eye (6mm iris) looks slightly too small in the Bernard. On the other hand, it looks huge in the Saint and I put him temporarily in my Akando's 13mm eyes (iris size 5.2mm). Looks good. The gaping isn't too bad, given that the eye is too small for the eye well. You just have to make sure the eyes are shoved right into the inner corner, to minimise the most obvious gaps. The minute 4.4mm irises of the 11mm eyes suit the Kuncci long, low eyes perfectly, to my mind. Other might find them ridiculously small.

I am putting a mini Glazki review in my eye thread, if anyone is interested. I can link it here.

ETA: Scroll down for the mini review. /threads/realistic-eyes-101.581494/page-6

My newest arrival, Bhadrakali, is here. But the black eyes with red irises I bought her simply look like black holes so am going to have to rethink the eye situation. This is the small bust which looks normal size to me so cannot imagine how she would look if I put the largest bust on there (gives me a back ache thinking about it).

    7. I posted this in the kids' thread, but thought I should do so here, as well. Obviously, if the kids have been pushed back yet again, our poor Arsene is still in the closet, awaiting the master's attention.
      * * *
There has been another delay on the children. I am not surprised. However, if the sponges have not yet been done, I think that it is likely that we will not see the kids in August, either. They are worth the wait -- but those of you who are ambivalent or openly worried when dolls don't show up on schedule, as promised, please take heed. Those of us who are die-hard DollShe fans, we're used to this. * resigned sigh *

Here is the note I received:

      =========================

First of all, I am sorry for the delivery being delayed for a long time. When I inform you the delivery would be able to be done in July but we had no choice but to inform you the delivery being delayed again. I don’t know what to say.

I finished The original form of hands and feet parts as perfect as I can. After that, Producing Silicon mold to cast them is being done currently. Producing Protecting sponge for dolls will be done 2 weeks later. This one will be the last about delivery. I apologize again that I have done it several times.

Shipping will start from 2 weeks later and it will be done in August.
After that, We are thinking about a delivery schedule guarantee or new way of delivery that will not have a case like this happening again.

I’ll try not to let this problem happen again.

Thank you for not canceling and with patience you have been waiting for a long time though.

I’ll try to do my best to produce the best dolls to reward you.

      Sincerely yours,
      DollShe-Ki-yong

    8. So I'm trying to figure this out: Does this mean the smaller dolls are going to be late? Or is the big ones going to be late? XD

    9. EVERYTHING is going to be late.

      • x 5
    10. And that's what I was trying to figure out.

    11. Well, that settles that discussion. lol!

I've been wanting (but putting off ordering) 2 Arsene dolls.....but I think I'll wait. lol!....
I just want them for the bodies, and will sell the Arsene heads if I really don't like them in person, as I'm already not keen on the head sculpt.

    12. What does he mean "not canceling"? I didn't think that was even an option.

    13. Oh, folks can cancel. They lose their money, but they can cancel. I don't remember whether DollShe offers a refund less a restocking fee.

    14. My Amanda (ordered on 5th of July) is shipping!!! And tomorrow is my birthday! So... do you believe in magic like I do?)

    15. Congrats, @taecelle ! That's an exciting birthday present! Also? Wow! Less than a month from order to shipping? Did Dollshe hire a bunch of people to cast or something because that's incredible!

    16. I think they are making an extra effort to ship the sculpts that are done and ready quickly to make up for long delays in the other sculpts but not all have orders in both categories.

The Avatar blue is just as beautiful as I imagined it so I am very happy with her.

    17. It would have been far better to clear the outstanding orders and then have a bonzo sale and pump those out ten to the dozen. But what do I know?

      • x 1
    18. I still think he needed the new sales for money to pay his bills. Money which is not coming in when the dolls are not shipping for months to years.

      • x 1
    19. Congratulations, and happy birthday! :)

    20. Yes, you are probably right there.

And I realise it sounded as though I was attacking you with that. Sorry, Walter. It wasn't you I was attacking, but the situation. It just so happened that you were standing nearest.

    21. @taecelle Congrats, and happy birthday! :D

I'm sorry to be contributing to the "18M sale getting casted within a month while pushing new orders back" plight, but the sale is over in two days I'm just sitting here like :shudder thinking should I get another Saint before he's gone forever (supposedly).

Edit: Or a fashion-size Grant Philippe. I've never been interested in "manly man" dolls, but be still my heart that is a GORGEOUS sculpt.

    22. I say go for it. The more sales he gets when he does put them up, the more likely he will do it again when he needs more cash. And I don't think it is the casting of the ready dolls that slows him down. He has had plenty of time to finish them but just cannot seem to push the "good enough" button on new sculpts. I think it is his perfectionism that paralyzed those efforts. Anyone else would have just started casting from the prototypes he showed us in grey.

    23. When he introduced it that way I thought that was what we were getting. Straight from the grey and I was expecting it, not an overly perfected sculpt. It's kind of upsetting not to have a first batch kind of doll but the same one everyone else will get. Booo, not cool.

    24. Completion and presentation for scrutiny are the nemeses of the perfectionist. I believe you are right, Walter. The prototypes might have looked perfect to us, but not to their creator. Also, we have to consider the practicalities of casting. Perhaps the prototypes didn't cast well. It seems as though the mini children are facing extended delays and I wonder whether that is because it is actually impossible to cast such tiny details in a way that would satisfy a perfectionist's standards. Us lot in this thread know what we are letting ourselves in for, but I do pity those who ordered without knowing the time and agony that would go into producing their final, cast doll.

    25. If that's the case, I wish for everyone's sake he would be more upfront about his artistic torments then. :P

Still can't decide. I have spent a LOT of money in the past month. If I do get another, it'll be a Pale Saint on Pure, though. I've decided I like Grant Phillippe so much I'm willing to get the whole 70cm shebang someday.

    26. Since it's all about fantasy girls for me this year, I'm free of the Dollshe blues.
Oh, wait....still don't have bendy David. My order is so old, it's on parchemnt. :o

    27. sorry for the late reply! Didn't have much time to check DOA in the last days. I checked all your reference pics on Flickr, they were very informative! And... Omg, after so much time trying to decide I ended going with Copper Oriental rather than Oriental! I like how it looks darker or lighter depending on the lighting and the dolls I've seen with such skin are sooo gorgeous. I paid the additional cost for copper oriental this week and I'm super excited! I think it will suit my character better :) I'm excited thinking about receiving my Saint :0!! I'm thinking on buying some clothes before she arrives. I read the Rhythmos body is kinda difficult in terms of finding clothes for it. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy clothes for Rhythmos body?

      • x 1
    28. Omg! That literally made me laugh out loud. Sorry!

    29. He turned out gorgeous. I love the lighting

    30. Hi y'all, total big doll noob here lol
I bought my first MSD (blue fairy May) 9 years ago and she is my only BJD until I saw the Dollshe Grant Phillippe about 2 months ago. I bought one with L2 body in pure fresh. I've been seeing some unboxing videos and some posts here. But it seems most of the new arrivals are female dolls? Has anyone one gotten their 28M dolls during the first round of 30% sale? (My order was placed on May 27th)

(*Whispers quietly* I also bought a Hound in pure oriental with pure body and an Aramis in copper oriental with Rhythmos body, and a Husky in pure tan with pure body, d@mn it 50% sales are evil)

    31. @SalmonNugget - I don't think anyone has gotten the L2 body yet? He released it fairly recently. I'd put money on you getting your 3 18M boys before you get your Grant. Goodness knows that Mr. Dollshe is probably still fiddling with the prototype for that L2 bod.

    32. Yes, the bendy boys (L2-4) appear to be nowhere near completed yet, so anyone who has one on order will be waiting some time. If we are following the usual Dollshe pattern, they were shown as complete grey master sculpts in April 2016, so should start shipping around April 2017. Then the small bendy boys might get some attention, so another 3-4 months for them, maybe?

The others are completed sculpts, so might be worth paying extra and having those shipped separately. They will be ready way before the L2.

    33. None of the orders with the L2, L3, or L4 bodies have even come close to shipping yet as we're not even sure that Mr Kim is ready to start casting it.

    34. haha I'm just happy with anything comes in before Halloween. I can't wait to try and do face up myself for the first time #WishMeLuck

I just wanted the thigh joints really.
And I really really REALLY wanna a David Kuncci (as well as a ziger zig ah) (I'm just 300 dollars short at this point lol) he's gonna be the twin brother to my Grant lol

    35. If you want him faster you could probably ask to change to L 1 body, otherwise you are in for the long wait.

    36. Hmmmm - I surprised myself and slid in my order under the line - for a Honey Skin Peach Aramis (!) on the Old Hound body.

It's not a body that will win posing awards, but since his destiny is mostly to loll around on my furniture like an indoor kitty, I think it will be fine.

The Aramis sculpt seemed too smiley at first, but it's actually got a lot of interesting details. And it wins cool points by being not quite symmetrical.

    37. Ordered an Amanda Beauty in copper oriental. It's a gorgeous color in all the pictures I've seen so I hope it looks good in person too.

      Now... to figure out clothes?

    38. @Chriandra - that's just what I was thinking about if I were to buy another Dollshe. She's going to look really beautiful in that color.
and she might not take too long either.
      spam us please!!!

    39. would definitely love an Amanda in Pale tan :-P

    40. Heh, that's exactly what I did with my Grant. I'm far too impatient sometimes.

    41. I want the thigh joints :-P so i guess I'll wait

    42. I originally went for the L2 for that very reason, but the joints in the upper arms just bugged me, aesthetically speaking. Given that this guy is going to be my werewolf, he's naturally going to be spending a lot of time shirtless.

    43. Oh me too, actually asked if it's possible to have L2 body without the upper arm joints. and they said yes.
Though I don't mind as much because I plan on getting a David Kuncci as well, so i'll probably do that without the arm joints. (I'll probably ask if you can have the neck joint on the L2 body as well.) the new pose+ body is very customisable it seems.

    44. Oh that was nice of them! Though I'm already going to be asking them to modify my layaway (again) to add a pair of eyes to the order. See I love my David's sleek lines as is, so that's why I'm a little skeptical. Call me a chicken if you will.

    45. Well Dollshe extended the 18M sale for another 3 days... so if you haven't gotten what you wanted, now is your "last chance." But, knowing the past with Dollshe, the 18M boys will probably make another appearance sometime in the future.

    46. Just received my clothes from Alice Collections... Now I just need my hound!

    47. I think you're right about the 3 more days of 18M. He is trying to keep his staff busy and money rolling in while he tries to perfect what is probably already more than wonderful.

    48. I have not used my coupon yet and I should get Erica or Amanda in this size, before another MSD temps me. Heck even her price would be $436 with the coupon, wonder if I could do a layaway? I never had a SD female Dollshe before. I hate being sick and not thinking clearly.

    49. @ derilan85 - Dollshe's cool with layaways. you do all the paperwork and just email them with each payment.

      • x 1
    50. I keep seeing people talking about a coupon... um, what coupon is this?

    51. The Dollshe shoppers that almost made it into the one year club all got a 30% off coupon that was first said to have no expiration date and then changed to expires in 1 year. At that point alot of us were swearing we would never buy a Dollshe again but many have since relented and ordered again. and again.... :doh

    52. speaking of discount, are we supposed to get that 1% membership discount (those who bought 1 - 5 dolls, or 5% for those who bought 5 or more..etc) on top of the 30% and 50% off sale?
Now I have 4 dolls pending, but I still can't use my 1% discount on my last 3 purchases :-/ I asked them like 4 times on the Q & A site, but they never gave me direct answer. And I had to ask them to give me the reward points manually after each purchase. so how does that membership % work?

      Here are some qoutes

      Dear SN,
We will let you know the information about points you have gotten and you will get.

      ---------------------------------
      Order #1749 - 62points (completed)
      Order #1939 - 69points (completed)
      1%membership discount – Not yet
      ---------------------------------

We can apply the 1% of membership discount to #1939.
If you want to use all the points to #1939, please let us know.
We will give a refund for that amount.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we will respond promptly.

      Have a wonderful day.

      Sincerely yours,

      DollShe craft

      and then I said

      Dear Dollshe,

ok, so you get points when you buy a doll with or without the membership discount right? So the points added were from the last two purchases, correct?

And once you have purchased your first doll you're entitled to a 1% membership discount, but since I'm not eligible to use the 1% membership discount until the first order is shipped, I wanted it in the form of reward points instead, that is the missing points i'm asking for. I just want to make sure i'm not missing anything.
      Thanks

      SN

After this I'm like, am I not supposed to get a 1% because the dolls are already on sale? And that is like 6 dollars cheaper for a 28M doll, so I'm like whatever. I just wanna know LOL

    53. @SalmonNugget, if you have already ordered from Dollshe and have 1 doll you're suppose to get the 1% Membership Ranking taken off from the price of whatever it is you're ordering next. I had to talk to Dollshe my self because my membership discount wasn't being taken out of my most recent order (they had said something was wrong with the website, and that was why it wasn't showing up). Try asking them again, say that you're not seeing your discount being taken off of the items that you ordered. Sometimes it's easier to get an answer if you make it as simple as possible for them to translate. Hope this helps :)

    54. That's what I'm told!! I am a new member, my first purchase was Grant Phillippe, which is now in delay limbo LOL. Then I went on and got 3 more (in 2 separate purchases) however, none of them are shipped yet.
I thought i'm supposed to get an extra 1% when I buy the 18M boys, and I asked them to refund me in store credit / points. But they only gave me the points I'm supposed to get for the purchase. So I guess I should ask them again. Thanks

    55. Generally speaking you only get the points once the entire transaction is complete and the doll has been shipped to you.

    56. I have bought and paid for more than 5 dolls but only getting the bronze discount on the orders I have made so assuming they only count dolls they have already shipped. If I order another I should see the increased discount now that Ausley arrived but they may need a gentle nudge (or serious kick in the butt) before they change it.

    57. I bought and received more than 15 dolls but my level still Bronze, and now lose my 1% Membership Discount.:vein
I wrote asking he. I am not expect 10% discount but at least give me back my 1% discount.
