Dollshe 28M discussion

Jul 25, 2013

    1. I'm not sure if this will help, but here's a link to a comparison between Idealian 72, Iplehouse EID and Dollshe 28M bodies.
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...an-Branon-Iplehouse-EID-Douglas-Dollshe-David

      Best Regards,

      Makkaon

    2. Oops sorry, I did take the pictures but I haven't had time to upload them yet! I'll try and do that this week for anyone who's interested.

*ETA* What I CAN say is that the EID head works on the 28M body, but the 28M head doesn't work as well on the EID body. Apart from the neckhole size, the head is really small compared to the body. But I'll post photos later on and you can decide for yourselves.

    4. Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to seeing them! :)

And . . . damn, that's what I was afraid of. (I have a Light Brown EID body that I haven't been able to find a head for, and haven't been able to sell -- and since IpleHouse doesn't sell heads separately, I've been casting about for other options. *sigh*)

I really appreciate you trying the switch and taking photos!

    5. Hey everyone (especially Ashbet), I'm so sorry for the long delay in uploading photos of my head switch experiment! Here is one:

You can click on the picture to go to my Photobucket for more (NSFW: there are male bits in there...)

*ETA* Not all the photos are there, because my computer shut down halfway through uploading. If you check back again in 24 hours the rest of the set should be up.

    6. I updated the first post with some of these comparison links. Thanks folks! If there are anymore comparisons and updated pictures that should be added there, please feel free to poke me via PM. I'm subscribed to the thread, but I miss a lot of things. Also, I updated the thread title to reflect the body size since there is now more than one head to the size. Thank you for the PM on that one chizzie_shark! :)

I know that the body was changed during the production, but comparing chizzie_shark's photo, it was a substantial change! I didn't really notice it so much before.

After all this time, I'm still contemplating a David, and now Grant. I have a hard time handling larger dolls (SID boys are way too big for me, let alone the EID ones), so I want to see one in person first. Even my Orijean on the 32 body is almost too much for me. But these boys are so beautifully sculpted, I may still get one anyway.

    7. Eeee, thanks so much, this is really helpful!

I agree, the EID head works better on the 28M body than vice versa (and, DANG, your EID boy looks great on that body!) . . . but the photos really illustrate the difference.

Thanks again for taking the photos -- and in personal good news, I finally found a LB EID head for my headless body, so as soon as he gets here from England, I will *finally* get some use out of this EID body that I've owned since 2011! o__O

    9. Unf. Gyul- your David is beautiful.

    10. Heey guise I'm totally new to dollshe and I was wondering if anyone could let me knoww how the ordering works? and more importantly if I ordered a basic doll (for example if I just ordered from a listing page like this http://dollshecraft.com/shop/step1.php?number=688&b_code=B20100805033033 ) would it come with the faceup?
      I've seen box openings but they all seem to be blank? if someone could explain how that works I'd be sooo grateful ~!! I tend to struggle with pinpointing info on things like this ^^;
      <3333
Also~ if my font colour bothers anyone(like is hard to read if you're adhd or dyslexic), just let me know and I'll be more careful <33 !

    11. stargirl, Dollshe doesn't provide any faceup for any of their dolls. All the gorgeous faceups bar Aramis and Venitu were done but the talented S-Dink. Your font color is cute, btw. It woke me up..heheh

    12. Ahh~ really? thanks for letting me know !!!! ;o ! hahahaha :] thanks <3

      One moree question.. whichh are everyone's favorite moulds? it's so hard for me to choose right now I'm at a loss @@;

    13. After watching your beautiful guys and after a little adventure (I took someone's private gallery for the public DK thread and posted there my picture LOL) I'm bringing on my own David. Here's my Woroh being born:

He's just got his wig. The next step will be face up, I suppose, but I also consider sanding and hot-glueing... Anyway, I'm very pleased with him and can't wait to see him as the main character from my novel :)

    14. Oh. Dat nose!

Ordering my David today. *leaps about in excitement* It's been a LOOOONG time since I've actually ordered a new doll, as opposed to scouring the MP for bargains. I forgot how exciting (and expensive) it is. Two years, I think. Woo hoo! I could get addicted to the adrenaline rush.

I will be getting a little batch of clothes, so will report back on fit. Don't suppose anyone knows of someone who sells BIG brogues? I know Freedom Teller do, but I could barely pay $65 for a pair of brogues for me, let alone my dolly. But, they are sublime so, if nothing that good crops up at a better price, it is time to list some stuff on the MP.

    15. Woot, I'm excited to see how you'll work your magic on a David, MadamMauMau!

    16. LOL. Well, he will be taking over from my Lawrence Owen in being one of my most precious characters, so the same, just bigger. And without the I'm-a-little-teapot arms. Can't wait, actually. Well, I'm going to have to, as he is on layawake. Hopefully he should be home end of August. Time to collect clothes together.

If anyone has any more info on what fits, I would be eternally grateful. Anyone tried Dollmore Glamour Model shoes on them? Some fit the EIDs, so I am hopeful.

    17. I did, and they don't. Not quite long or wide enough. :(

    18. Gaaaahhh!! OK. The ones I am looking at outside length 11.5cm and width 4.5cm. I was pretty confident on the length, but the width looked iffy.

OK. Second option. Anyone got the Freedom Teller EID brogues and a 28M and would be willing to get the two together?

    19. This shoe business is getting to me. I also ordered some Dollmore ones...they looked biscuity enough in the front to be roomy...and the Freedom Teller ones I got definately didn't fit (I got the loafers because they looked a little more forgiving...but it was a total joke...like the trying to smash Cinderellas shoe on the evil sister).

I'm just throwing money away at shoes at this point.

The new Crobidoll G-Line has some shoes with measurements that look like they work - but I don't trust it because some of the styles have a different measurement. Not sure which one is a typo.

    20. Urgh! Well, that saves me a ridiculous amount of money on shoes that don't fit. I will go and ask Ningyoboy on flickr. He has quite a few pairs of shoes on his boys.

    21. MadamMauMau Ah, congratulations!))) You won't be disappointed with that body, it's softly movable, like kitten)))
About shoes... Dollmore doesn't feet, even uggs. Absolutely, and for me it was not a good news. But Iplehouse EID shoes do.))) They sit tight, but with the help of handmade shoehorn it's possible. I could put even rubber shoes from Alis' Collection on Walter's feet with it.

    22. Thanks Mitya69. My trouble is going to be finding shoes that fit and that I can stand. I am ridiculously picky about most doll items, but I am absolutely obsessive about shoes. They HAVE to look like 1:1, in proportions, finish, everything, and none of the EID ones meet my exacting standards. Hm. SSDF shoes fit the EIDs so I will have a look around there as well.

    23. MadamMauMau that's real problem, then. I agree that Iples' shoes are not a peace of art, but at least their quality is rather good. SSDF shoes are huge, so it's the idea, thank you!

    24. I am with you on this point....

    25. Speaking of the body (especially the feet)... :sneaky

    26. Such beautiful sculpting.

I am sure they are well made, but they have the proportions of baby shoes, or toy shoes (which I know they are, but you know what I mean). I think I will wait until my boy is home (end of August, possibly. Don't know how long they take to ship after the layaway is paid off). I have EID shoes and a pair of SSDF shoes and will try those on before committing. So, if you can wait, and no one gets in before me, I will report back on fit.

    27. Great idea, thank you!

    28. Hello...I've been sort of stalking photos of both the 28M boys and a couple of weeks ago I finally bit the bullet and bought an OE David head (I couldn't quite afford the body). So now I'm eagerly awaiting his arrival (and also half considering getting a Grant because damn, they're both gorgeous!)
May I ask the general opinion about the new resin types?

    29. Quiet and Insane, I'm affraid you won't get any reliable opinion right now, 'cause the new resin type (you're talking about the Honey Skin, I believe) hasn't been released yet. It's still being tested and the DC waits for the final results of their experiments. Congratulations on your David head, by the way. Great choice! :)

    30. Yes, the Honey Skin is what I was referring to. When I ordered my head, the new resin types were available to choose from so I had assumed their testing had been completed, hence why I asked the question. I think the colour range is fantastic!
Waiting for him to get here will be boring...ah well... :)

    31. My mistake, they've been just released, indeed. Anyway, I don't think anyone has received their order yet if he/she chose the new skin... So we must be patient and wait a little longer. Personally, I also love the new range of colours and the translucent character of the new resin. I'd gladly give one a try :-)

    32. The range of colours is much more realistic when compared with what other companies offer (with the exception of the grey, green, and blue colours of course). I think they look really beautiful.

    33. Welcome home Walter Kelly (Grant Phillippe in Pale Tan)

    35. He looks great!

    36. Oh he's gorgeous!

    37. Thanks everyone. :daisy He'll be a bit a of a work in progress but at least he's clothed, wigged and painted.

    38. mdonline03- Love your grant in the pale tan!
I'm still trying to find Gio's (Grant in freshskin by Lyn Raftis) look............trying on a different wig. It's a bit monochromatic, but I kind of like it.
He's on a Iple model body for now as my David refuses to give up his body for sharing, LOL!

    39. He is stunning. Understated, rather than monochromatic, I would say.

And a favour to ask the David owners. Could someone measure the width of his eye opening, so from inner to outer corner of the eye hole? And am I right that the eye well fits 16mm eye balls?

      Thanks all.

ETA: Just seen that he is listed as 12mm eyes. Is that right? Does a rigid (glass or plastic) 12mm eye fit well in there without gaping at the sides? Or, if someone has an eye sizer, could they stick that in there and check for me? If that is right, I really do need the eye opening measurements before I start ordering eyes.

      Cheers

    40. mdonline03 Awesome guy! Very stylish)))

JinCIncy such beautiful eyes. He is looking reproachfully and so sad.

MadamMauMau 16 mm are definitely too big. I tried 14mm Dollshe eyes, and they are ok. And now he has 12mm acrylic eyes. I'll measure his eyes later today.

    41. Looking very good, RedRibbon.

Don't worry. It is the base size (so the curvature of the eye well) plus the length of the eye opening I need, which is fiddly business. My David is now overdue (surprise) so I am hoping it won't be long until I can do the measuring myself. In the meantime, he has a Freedom Teller suit being made for him. Hurrah! I also added Those Brogues to the order, so will report on fit in the other thread, when they arrive.

    42. MadamMauMau - Is Freedom Teller taking custom orders for the 28M body? Oh crudely crud if so since their mix/match event is ending this weekend and I will be no where near a computer.

On a shoe note - I did order the half boots for him but haven't been able to try them since he's been out for body blush. But dang the shoes are gorgeous. I think they're gonna work.

    43. No, I ordered EID Model size, as it is the closest one can currently get. Have you looked in the "what fits" thread? Ningyoboy has found that their suits fit decently. I will go and get the thread. *goes off*.

      Here you are.

    44. MadamMauMau I'm really glad that you chose David and almost patiently waiting for final results of his custom!)))

    45. Well, not so patiently now that he is (over)due, but hanging on in there. It was your lovely Walter that tipped the balance between a David and Grant. He showed that the face doesn't have to look quite as extreme as it does with some of them, and I like that.

And I will be making him an inverse corset, as the character is supposed to have a slight paunch. Hoping I can still button his waistcoat and trousers over it. XD Time will tell.

    46. Thank you. It's an honour to hear something like that from you ;) Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you also waiting for your own D.K.? I can't wait to see the results, then.

    47. Baw. Yes, waiting on a Kuncci in Oriental. Reschelling one of my core characters. This means that all three of my core characters is a Dollshe, which seems somehow right.

And a request. Could someone measure the 28M arm for me? What I need is suit sleeve length, so from where the shoulder seam would be (so, further out than the shoulder socket edge) to the edge of the wrist joint. The official measurement is 21cm, but I have no idea where that is from and to.

      Cheers.

    48. Mitya69 - Thank you. :)

      RedRibbon - Very dramatic effect!

Aww…okay. And thanks for the link update. Greedily I thought I perhaps missed a new sizing offered. I've been ordering his pants, shirts, shoes & what not but didn't bit the suit bullet.

    49. MadamMauMau, the 21 cm measurement seams to be right (I've just checked it out on my Urke), but if you'd like to have somewhat longer sleeves, I'd even go for 22 cm... But that's max I think.

      mdonline03, yeah, he's a tragic character, after all ;-)

    50. Thanks a lot RedRibbon. If anything, I like sleeves short as I like a strip of cuff showing. Doll jacket sleeves always seem to be disproportionately long, like they are wearing their big brother's suit to a dance. However, I don't want to overdo it as I can always take a sleeve up. but I can't add to it.

ETA: And my Kuncci is on shipping! Hurrah!

    51. Have a nice waiting ;)

    52. And my Kuncci has arrived. What a chunker.

Has anyone else found that the resin is rough on their boys? About two thirds of the surface is fine. A bit of tooth, but even. However, the back of the mid torso is rough and the largest area of roughness is, unfortunately, on his head. As luck would have it, the headcap is fine, but the face is pretty rough. I know from experience that trying to put pastel on that will only end in tears, so he will need a magic eraser exfoliation before I can start work on him, which I don't like to have to do as the resin then has no tooth.

Just wondering if anyone else has had that problem.

But, oh the feet and oh, the hands and oh, the knees (upper torso joint sucks, but I knew that anyway). And LOL at the clear resin "cup". He will need that if he ever plays cricket.

ETA: And, for anyone else who needed it, the base size of the Kuncci eyes (so, the size of eyeball that will fill the eyewell, if you are using rigid eyes) is 12mm. However, the eye opening goes right to the edge of the eyewell, so there is a slight gap at the inner corner of the eye, particularly on the right. I am thinking that silicone eyes might therefore be the best solution, as they can be bent round to fill that gap. I have tried 10mm Eyecos in there and they fill the eye opening, although the iris is slightly large to be realistic.

      Why are things never easy?

    53. Yay, congrats MadamMauMau! Can't wait to see your completed David.

The resin is indeed rough, but not overly so. It might be newer Dollshe thing (a couple of Saint heads I am painting have the same roughness to them) but I've never owned an older Dollshe so I have nothing to compare it too. Personally I've found that it takes pastel reasonably well, though I'm no expert.

By the way, I finished painting my Grant Phillippe:

      Highwayman by chizzie_shark, on Flickr

There are a few more photos on my Flickr. He hasn't got a name yet, as the character I had planned for him didn't work out. So far I've simply been calling him "The Highwayman". Any naming suggestions?

      • x 2
    54. He looks fabulous. Reminds me of a young Charles Dance, who has always been a very dashing man.

Yes, roughness I can usually deal with, but patches of roughness don't work. The pastel will take more heavily in the areas where the resin is rough than where it is smooth, giving a patchy finish. I have exfoliated the face, although it remains fairly rough. I will hopefully try a preliminary faceup tonight and see how that goes.

    55. MadamMauMau - My David head came oddly rough too. His headcap is quite smooth, while his face is oddly rough in places. Nothing as bad as what you've described but noticeable enough. Did you get the Honey Skin?

chizzie_shark - Your Grant is beautiful! As for name suggestions...perhaps something starting with 'L'?

    56. No, normal resin. I did buff him with magic eraser but, when I came to do the face up, the pastel was still patchy around the eyes, so wiped and rebuffed. That's fine. It was only a trial faceup, to get a grip on the sculpt. The only other time I have encountered resin like that was when Soom changed their casting company with the Heliots. The one I got had a face with gritty patches. I had to swap it over anyway, as it had another casting flaw. I wonder if this is just a glitch When did you receive your David?

    57. I received him around three weeks ago. Well...just his head...his body and other bits will come later.

    58. Just realised I put the picture in the other thread and not here. He has been painted. Not an easy job as it is a very distinctive face. Also, that business with the rough resin and all the palaver of sand him with a Magic Eraser took time. But the face is smooth now and the second faceup turned out smoother.

I am collecting his FT suit tomorrow, so I will take a picture of him in that.

The eyes, though. These are Eyeco 10mm and the iris is still a bit too large. However, there is only enough sclera in these to turn them this far round before showing gaps. I therefore can't go any smaller with these. Hm.
