Dolls' Sexuality and Owner's Sexuality: Are they related?

Feb 22, 2011

    1. I'm a straight married mom, but all of my boys are gay...and I think this is because, as a writer, most of my main characters in my stories are gay or bisexual. My dolls' characters feel like my literary characters in my mind, so it's probably no surprise that their sexualities are similar. Even though their orientation doesn't reflect my own sexuality, it does reflect my interest in non-traditional relationships, so yeah, for me it is linked in a way..

    2. I'm bisexual too, and I don't think that BJD's are a manifestation of the owner's sexuality. I think that this is more bound with the archetypes of a classical men and women, and we, with our original hobby, break them.

    3. Interesting topic! Like others, I don't think there's an intrinsic link between dolls and sexuality, but there is one for many of us. In my case, I'm polysexual/queer and all of my dolls are queer (of some sort) as well. Part of the reason why I love my dolls is because they've always been an outlet for me to express varying conceptions of queer sexuality, as well as gender variance and fluidity:3

    4. Nah, unless the doll is some sort of owner avatar, I don't really think you can draw a line between the two. More open-minded people are bound to have more diverse dolls, and that's pretty much it. The kid doll I have is, however, based on my own knowledge that kid tend to not have a gender(IE, they can pretty much be whatever they want).

    5. I think sometimes it might be related..... I'm straight, my boyfriend is bi, and collectively our characters are all over the homosexual\heterosexual scale. Of the characters that are or will be in doll form, the majority of them are straight, but I didn't think about this when I made them up. I'm pretty sure I only have three characters who will be dolls that aren't straight, (one gay man, two bi men), which is almost nothing comapred to the thirty-two-doll long list of characters-to-be-dolls........ I dunno, I NEVER thought about it until now. I suppose there's probably a link between what the owner feels is natural for them and therefore what feels natural for their dolls to be like...

    6. I'm what I have heard called hetero-flexible. As in, I generally lean toward guys, but if the right girl comes along I'm totally not opposed. Also, in my past I've been in open and polyamorous relationships (these did not end well... >.>). But I don't really think my dolls's sexuality has much to do with my own.

      Let's see... we have:

1 demisexual: Quinn - married to a man. He has no sexual feelings for someone, at all, until he's fallen in love with them or at the very least developed a VERY strong emotional attachment. It's all about the emotions.

1 gay: Spencer - married to a man.

1 homo-flexible: Lily - currently dating a man, only dated women before him.

2 bisexual: Amrynn - engaged to a man. Ginaphae - so far only dated men.

4 straight: Bree - dating a man. Kendall - currently single (though possibly dating a female couple in a 3-way relationship soon). Stardust - married to a man in an open relationship, plays with other men. Gunnar - single.

      1 unknown
: Lucas - is to busy with his work to care, is very anti-social... has shown mild interest in one girl, but she used him and walked all over him, no interest since. Currently just finds it all "illogical".

1 too young to know for sure: Zane - he's only 10, but so far has had a small crush on a girl he briefly "talked to online", and now has a big crush on his bff's dad (purely innocent - but "he's SO COOL!!")

    7. Well... I think it depends on the person. I'm an bisexual, but almost totally lesbian girl, and my dolls/the dolls I want are all based on my original characters. My original characters are like me, gay, lesbian, bi or some even asexual, and I love them so much I want dolls to represent them. But there's nothing sexual in my relationship to them, rather an emotional bond, and I certainly don't get them as outlets for my sexuality. Also, I really liked them before I even knew I was queer, so I can't see them related to my sexuality in that way. Though of course, they're queer because my OCs are queer, and my OCs are queer because I can't relate as much to a straight person as a queer person, and by making them queer they have a stronger emotional value to me.

    8. I'm bisexual, have a boyfriend, and yet most of my dolls are lesbians. I also dislike yaoi and love yuri... I think for me it's mostly because I just don't find boy dolls attractive, or just my general distaste for effeminate males? Yay for weird tastes?

    9. I don't think I've ever thought about this before. 0.o I'm straight and right now, 2 of my dolls are straight and 2 are bi. (I'm counting my floating head as a whole here) I've been dressing my Homme Kirill up extremely girly lately but, he's straight which seems a little confusing. He's also going through a character change right now because I haven't been happy with him since he came home so who knows what his sexual preference will end up being. I'm leaning more towards female bi dolls than males now though which might be why I've been wanting to dress boy dolls up like girls. =X

    10. I'm so glad this topic hasn't gotten locked, and it's to the credit of everyone else who's already posted and been so mature in doing so. I don't even own a doll yet and I think this is fascinating reading. But most of what I would say has been said multiple times, and very eloquently, by others.

The topic matter seems to have fluctuated a little here and there, but if we're talking about whether there are a higher percentage of queer doll collectors or if there is an inherent connection between doll collecting and some level of queerness (which seems to have been the original question), I agree with all those who've said basically that people who are already part of a non-mainstream subculture are more likely to gravitate towards other non-mainstream subcultures, and I'd venture to say that the majority of people who collect dolls in some way pursue an "alternative" lifestyle or interests. But not necessarily alternative in terms of sexual preference. So I would say that the percentage of queer people in this hobby is almost certainly higher than in the general population, but probably not astronomically so.

If the question is whether doll characters tend to have similar preference as their owners, I also think that for many people who have an alternative sexual preference, in something which can be as personal as creating fictional characters, it can color those character, but not necessarily at all. (Actually, this goes for people of ANY sexual orientation, inasmuch as one typically identifies or more intimately understands the psychology of those of their own sex and orientation, though of course, not always.)

Speaking for myself, how much a given character I might invent would reflect me would, I think, be in part determined by whether an idea for a character just "popped" into my head, divorced from any context or narrative, or if the character was created with the greater interests and constraints of a story in mind. This would not be conscious on my part, in fact it never occurred to me until just now, but I think almost inevitably a character created spontaneously with no particular story in mind would be more likely to have more traits in common with me and with which I could identify (in other words, have better odds of being young, female, a/demisexual/disinterested/at best heteromantic). .....And then on the other hand, when a storyline demanded it, I once found myself roleplaying an obese 40-something closeted gay man. That is not the sort of character I'd have imagined out of context, yet he became one of my favorite inventions. Ever XD To tie this back into topic, my guess is, dolls and doll characters seem to tend to be very personal creations, and that type of character creating may be more likely to reflect owner preference than, say, creating a cast of characters in a novel who serve the needs of a narrative, but again not necessarily.

I could say more about crossover with the anime/manga subculture, aesthetic androgyny, and things like yaoi/shonen ai simply being "in" in some subcultures, and why, but other people have already pointed these things out very well.

    11. Actually, I'm Stright and my Doll (Coming home soon) Is Gay. Haha. I think that all my dolls will either be Gay or Bisexual, or Asexual (One character is Asexual). But Nope I'm just a straight Gal. Haha.

    12. I'm Gay and I want a good ballance of characters . I haven't started getting dolls but I'm saving. I know my main characters will be a believable mix. My main characters are gay ... but I write what I know I guess? I think it's intersting and I feel this hobby welcomes me more then any other hobby of mine. Like chat based RP.

    13. I personally have never thought of my dolls being either gay or straight. I have been amazed at how many bjd owners I meet that when introducing their doll, will immediately say- he is gay, she is likes girls, etc. (I wasn't really curious, but I admit it makes me look at the doll and the owner a little oddly- )

Oddly, for me, because I don't really care if dolls have sex. I am married, and a 'straight' woman, so I don't really see the connection between an owner 's sexuality and an inanimate object such as a doll.

    14. I'm bi too ^^ But my doll isn't an outlet, he's too young! XD Now the characters that I write about, maybe? But I'm more than happy to stare at pretty ladies when they walk down the street towards me XD

    15. LOL I see the point .. maybe its because I use them for characters in a story I am writing, Its not about sex as much as characters reltionships with eachother. I feel that emotional connections enhance the story. I don't picture the doll having sex with another doll so to speak. It's more like- these are visual representations of characters in a story I'm trying to tell. In which one or two of the main characters just happen to be gay.

    16. [paragraph]I think this a very interesting thread, an I ink that the OP has every right to ask this question, just as anyone here has the right not to answer it or even read it. As far as sexuality, I think it has a connection, the dolls are dolls and not humans yes, but they certainly have most if not all the visual likeness of a human, and that does matter. Dolls are, and have been for thousands of years, a recognized symbol in the human psyche, they are a representation of humans, often individuals. That's not speculation, thats historic fact. From that we can gather that yes, the personification that we ourselves give to the doll, intentionally or not, will often stem from our own minds in such a way as to be correlative to our personal thoughts, traits, and experiences.[/paragraph][paragraph]Do these things have everything to do with our sexuality? Absolutely not, but they still have to do with us as people and all the things I listed above and how those things affect our decisions. We are interested in the things we follow and are fans of, not just randomly, but because they often spark something in our psyche that then gives us pleasure to pursue. We love the things we love for a reason. Whether you'd like to believe that or not, is fine too, but I have seen no reason against it.[/paragraph][paragraph]Personally? I've always like pd boy things better than girls, but that's part of who I am. I enjoy male beauty as an artist and that carries into being a male doll collector. It probably also has something to do with striving to recognize maleness in myself, when I recognize the female aspects of myself closely. Then again, I am very male person, but appreciate some thing generally viewed as "girly" or otherwise gender specific to the opposite sex. That being said, my dolls are all males. That what I enjoy, they are sexualized beings in some way as they are anatomically correct, why make them so otherwise? Truthfully, I will one day get a female doll. After all, I did still play with barbies when I was a younger boy, and there is nothing wrong with seeing the beauty in something so perfect as the feminine form, just as with the masculine form. I'm afraid these are more ramblings of an artist who is up too late...oh wells -,~*[/paragraph]

    17. *raise hand* i'm bi , and soon to be owner of a doll (finally first BJD) :D

i don't think there's a link at all , its all up to every each different taste

i'm not planning to make my doll gay / bi / les ~
i don't know why but i love seeing malexfemale couple , specially forbidden one :sweat

    18. I am aromantic asexual and most of my dolls are very open. I would say they are bisexual except my msd boy he is more asexual like I am his father is bi but really likes girls and boobie XD.

I think with me it a reflection of if I was really intrested in sex this is how I would be. Its easier to let the dolls have the romantic feeling as I can control how they go in my story and I can know the limites of what I can stand.
Personally I am Open to however other people are does not matter to me. I just like to have the control and limites with my dolls so I no when too much it too much.

    19. I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I've read that females are much more likely to be bisexual than males are (it's extremely common in females - who at least have more of a capacity to find others of their same gender sexually attractive - than in males, who are very rarely bisexual), and the fandom seems to be mostly female, so that may have something to do with it.

That's just some idle musing and nothing more, though. It might be interesting to take a large poll sometime to see how it all breaks down. Bisexuality also means different things to different people - there are some who might find other members of their own gender attractive but never act on it, and so might not consider themselves bisexual, etc.

    20. I think you might have a point here. Although I can only look to myself (my current doll is Asexual and that has nothing to do with my sexuality) but the one Im planning to get will probably be Bisexual or Lesbian (as I see her now, but she could change ones I get her :D).

And yes, I am also a Bisexual doll owner. Didn't really yhink of this before.

The only thing I did think about before is that most young doll owners in the Swedish community that owns boy-dolls tend to make them gay. No idea why, seems to be a fashion-thing atm.

    21. This is a very interesting topic, one I have certainly never thought of before.

I will start by saying I am a straight girl, and all of my dolls thus far I would consider "straight" as well. That is not to say I am against homosexuality or bisexuality (whether in regards to dollies or to their owners), just that I see my dolls as being more similar to myself, as opposed to more different from myself. Of course, my dolls are also not very Androgynous--you could not take Misty's head, stick it on a boy's body, and call it a boy... It just wouldn't work. xD So, I'm sure that plays into it as well.

So, perhaps there is a link between a doll's sexuality and an owner's sexuality.

    22. I don't think there is a tie between ones sexuality and the hobby. In Toronto at meets we have all types, no real predominance between hetrosexual or homosexual or asexual. The only thing I can see is it is more of the artsy type who likes the dolls and is in the hobby. Its more of a reflection of ones art.

    23. For me personally I'm not entirely sure whether they reflect my sexuality or not. I am married but I am bisexual. Only one of my dolls is bisexual and has a female partner and children with her and originally she was going to be completely straight and she did originally have a male partner (before he died). Although in some ways my dolls do seem to be aspects of myself or how I sometimes wish I was and generally in my artwork and my dolls to I always prefer females, so I suppose that could be linked to my sexuality in some way.

I have come around to asking some owners who have boy couples why they decided to make it like that (I say to myself I couldn't do that because I'd get jealous XD) and the response they've given me is 'I don't plan it, it just happens'. I guess that may depend how much you base your dolls on yourself I suppose or just how open you leave the characteristics of the doll to be and develop over time.

    24. I thought mine would be. I'm bisexual myself, and I was fine with thinking my doll was straight, because that's the way I lean most to. However.. my first boy has decided he is bisexual too, though he seems to lean towards guys, not girls.

I suppose this means he does reflect my sexuality, if more opposite than similar, but not consciously at all. And I'm gonna give the same response braceyfaceanimegurl quoted; I didn't plan it, it just happens. :P

    25. I personally have never really noticed a correlation between my sexuality and what I do with my dolls. I prefer male dolls simply because I don't like...women. I can't get attached or care about the doll if it's a woman- outside of my MH dolls, that is. That's not to say I don't enjoy dressing my boys up as girls. D: I love cross-dressing and would still find them appealing in female clothing. I don't think it has anything to do with my sexuality, though. I don't assign sexualities with my dolls. They just are what they are. And me, myself, I love men. : 3 I'm 100% straight. But I love the idea of drag and cross-dressing, indeed effeminate men are my most favourite kinds, so that's how I dress up my dolls, too.

    26. Im straight but im also a transvestit, I dont feel comfort in women clothes I have never been, mother told me when I was little I hated dresses and skirts.
my boys use much unisex clothing and now when you mention it I like when they are androgyn.

    27. I really don't get the correlation... it is interesting and I can admit I am in that percentage...something to look into?

    28. In all honesty, I think it depends more on the individual. Yes, all the dolls on my wishlist so far are girls, and yes, three out of four of them are straight. I am also straight. The fourth one is a lesbian. I'm not even sure how she ended up being a lesbian, it just ... happened(My dolls tend to take on a personality all their own and tend to ignore the personalities/looks/sexualities I thought they would have). :sweat

I may or may not get crap for this, but I'll say it anyways. Most of my characters/dolls usually end up being straight because that's the kind of relationships I(a straight person) relate too. I have never had an attraction to the same sex and have no idea what it's like being in a homosexual or bisexual relationship. I always kind of assumed that it's no different than being straight(except for the attraction to the same gender), but I am not gay, nor do I personally know someone who is gay in person, so I can't say I'm an expert on the subject.:sweat

But from my views and what I've seen from other owners, a doll mom/dads sexuality doesn't always play a big role in the gender/sexuality of their dolls at all.

    29. I think non-traditional sexual orientation in dolls - it's just a figment of the imagination by their respective owners.
Many owners create a custom pair of dolls for the love of anime, and only a few of his own sexual orientation. However, in my opinion, these aspects are interrelated yet)

    30. I am asexual, and as is one of my dolls. The only sexuality that I don't have (that I've heard of) is pansexual, and that's because I don't have enough dolls without characters!

I think that they could be linked... But also could not.

    31. I believe it is linked. I grew up playing with dolls and they are strongly associated with the world of fantasy to me. I never fantasized about homo- or bi-sexuality. So to me, the amount of sexuality seen in dolls is kind of overwhelming (for me).
I'm inhibited. So are my dolls. So, I believe there is a link. I don't believe that sexual preference has rights or wrongs. I've had gay friends and family, but still, it's not something I fantasize about with my dolls. I have many doll acquaintances who are very sexual and so are their dolls. So, I believe there is a link.

    32. That is a very interesting thought...I don't quite know if I'm bi or not. More bi-curious than actually bi. But, I do have a girl doll who was originally straight and is now engaged to my friend's female doll....I don't really know if that happened because of my orientation or not. I think in a way the dolls could be an outlet for someone's sexuality, but they might not even realize it.

    33. Well, till now Iยดm straight. Once they are my archetipes, and each one of them is a face or a dream of mine, so I believe all is linked.

Bastet, Keanu, Banthii nยดJeremias are straight.
Cรญaran is bissexual, but rather date women.
      Sekhmeth nยดRiki are assumed bissexual.
      Iason is assumed gay.
Rael/Moir nยดMisael/Celoir are hermaphrodites, from another planet, so they donยดt care about this. When itยดs time to procriation, they simply do it.

    34. its a good question to ask. everybody got there only opinion to it. as for me. ive find myself linking to of my BJD to ther fact they background stoires make them half- Brother & Sister. and no im not dating my own brother. (My bf no way close to having the same blood as me) its the path i feel that my BJD took and follow.

Its like i header one of my fave author said. the characters take on a life of they own and she maybe want write the story one way the character wouldnt do that. so she writes something eles.

    35. I myself is a straight guy, and I never had a question in mind about my real sexuality for I am confident that I'm straight, and I find BJD quite interesting rather than action figures, I just don't get it why boys playing with doll is already classified as gay. Everyone has own their own interest in life so what the heck is the problem if a guy plays with doll?

    36. Well, I'll drop my two cents about this topic.
I think my sexuality somehow affect my characters. Most of the don't care if they're dating a men or a woman, what they have (or don't) between the leg doesn't matter a bit. The person must be interesting enough so the gender won't affect a thing.
I'm like this, I've been in relationships with both genders.I can proudly say that I regret nothing, and in my doll's crew most of them are like this. They don't care about being labeled as homo, hetero or bisexual. As I said it's just a label :)
And about myself, I've been dating my girlfriend for almost 4 years now.

    37. When I was undecided on my sexuality as a younger teenager I was also undecided as to what kind of partner to get Cesavier, my only doll. Now that I've explored it a bit more and know that I'm heterosexual I've ordered him a female partner; so I think that my dolls do tend to reflect myself. :) (I like them to have bits of me in them in other ways too, like Ces has the same colour eyes as me, Seraphine will have the same colour hair etc). They're like little resin explorations of myself. :)

    38. I dont really feel like a person's sexual preference is portrayed commonly on one of or many of their dolls.
There's always going to be the exception to the rule, but I don't think that it's commonly a factor. I'm a straight woman (will be married this August/September), I own three dolls of my own, two of which are male. My oldest doll (Elgin) (I've had him since I was 17, and I'm now 21), has no gender preference. I have not found a male, nor female doll that goes with him. My Minifee (Judas) was based on a gay character, but I don't believe that he is such as a doll. He poses well with female dolls (better than with male ones), so I'm assuming that he's straight even though the character he was based off of was not.
My soon to be husband has a female doll too, she's one of the Dollzone dragons. She has no preference either aside from her male twin (who he's saving up for). My sexuality doesn't affect my doll's sexuality. I'm straight, my fiance is straight. and our dolls either have no preference or it hasn't been determined yet. We are neither for, nor against having straight, bisexual, gay, or lesbian dolls.

    39. Mine and my dolls' is. Deena is "ABC" - asexual, bisexual and cissexual, just like me. Johnny's bisexual but I haven't heard of any girl crushes, he hasn't had any relationships and he only likes an older guy right now.

It seems to me the most doll owners are something else than very strictly heteronormative heterosexuals, and even if the owner is hetero, at least one of the dolls usually is something else. How many % of all the dolls might be homo- or bisexual?

My Johnny is a DoD Camine, and yesterday I noticed the most Camines here are homosexual or bisexual. Maybe it's the feminine looks? Or the manga influence? But what makes the girls homosexual? I'll ask Deena when she arrives (ready for shipping!!)

    40. I recently came out of the closet.
And now I see this thread.
      My mind is blown.

My doll is in no wise used for that sort of an outlet it it though. Though she does help me get more in touch with my girly side. P:
Soraya is a very prim and proper girly girl. I love looking at all the beautiful dresses when I shop for her.

    41. I'm straight and I guess I'm rather open-minded when it comes to sexuality. My dolls are a mixture of bisexual, homosexual, heterosexual and asexual. However, this seems to apply mostly to my boys who tend to be rather androgynous. My girls are all heterosexual and tend to be rather feminine or sensual.

    42. Hi @Hadley & @namika, are you both straight guys like me? Well if you are, I may not be really alone after all! :D

    43. Hello everyone,

My dolls are mostly straight :)
But i have one lesbian couple
But i do not think that has anything to do with me beiing straight
But i never thought of it this way :D
      So good thinking :)

    44. Girl not guy~ XP

    45. I'm a straight female but I love girly looking boy dolls and everyone says that my boy is gay so I just kinda stuck with it. I also have a fascination with cross dressing him or dressing him girly with long wigs.

    46. Personally, I am straight but not narrow. So I wouldn't mind having two dolls that were male and gay, simply because I'm a huge fan of love in all forms. My doll's sexuality wouldn't necessary reflect on my own though, just their own character.

    47. I'm a pansexual, engaged transman. :v So my dollies and characters have a wiiiide variety of backgrounds, simply because I try not to limit them in any way.

    48. "Personally, I'm straight, I've just been playing with dolls my entire life (I was just one of those late bloomers that played with dolls until I was 14, then found BJDs at 18 and never looked back XD)." -- Teruchan

Another one like me! I was playing with dolls until around 14 then discovered MA Cissy in college and BJDs right before I got engaged (my bjd was at the wedding and wearing the same dress as me).

I never really thought about whom other doll owners found attractive. I just like being around other doll people. It's all about the dolls, the clothes, and just fun for me. Basically, if you like dolls, you're fine by me.

      PTG/GP

    49. I am a straight owner and honestly believe for some its an outlet to realize there sexuality. Key word is SOME people. As for myself I don't feel anything towards other men nor ever will. I don't believe my dolls even reflect off me. Since I do not find the dolls sexually appealing.

    50. I have actually though about this before xD

I definitely see my dolls as an outlet. I'm bi, but I'm not really out, and don't plan to be unless I end up with dating a girl. Having dolls with varying sexualities lets me explore something I don't feel comfortable expressing out loud. Does that make any sense? hahaha

That being said, I do have a preference for boys. Always have. I prefer drawing them, and they don't annoy me nearly as much as most girls do xDD;; So I have a lot of boy characters, and a lot of m/m couples.

    51. Well, since my dolls are based off of OCs of mine, they are all heterosexual, like myself. :) So I believe they can be reflections of yourself in a way, not just in sexuality of course.

As for my characters alone, they are certainly reflections of myself simply because they are a part of me. I created them long before I knew about bjds. ;)

    52. Interesting subject. I have several female BJDs. It seems like most of the people here all have specific characters and stories surrounding their dolls. I don't. I remember the first time I saw a BJD and was completely struck by the beauty of them, but it was only the female dolls (although, I will admit, I could not tell the difference between the male and female dolls for quite a while).

I just find them to be extremely beautiful dolls. I am more attracted to the female body (I am a straight female) and I find feminine clothing a lot more fun to play with and sew. The sexual orientation of the doll does not in any way play a part in how I see my dolls. I think, to me, my dolls represent who I always wished I was.

    53. Well, I'm straight and about a third of my dolls aren't...

    54. Some people do what they know. Some may have homosexual dolls and be homosexual or bisexual. Others may be homosexual and have straight dolls. Straight owners my have straight, gay, or bi dolls. I think it may come from a desire to explore another... 'side' to relationships.

I personally am asexual. But I find sexuality fascinating biologically and psychologically. So I have characters all across the spectrum. The same will go for my dolls.

People will do what they do. Maybe to expose themselves to something new, to live out who they are inside, to do something familiar, or because they find something fascinating.

    55. Exploring sexualities is definitely happening in this hobby, but I don't think everyone do it (for the same reasons).
I'm a amateur writer, and my characters are all over the spectrum. I try to reach realism by including all kinds of orientations and genders in my stories, and I also have an interest in gender and sexuality. So it comes natural to me to make up characters that's both gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual and so on.

Oh, forgot to mention, I'm a bisexual genderqueer person. So I might be a more likely candidate to have an interest in gender and sexuality. :)

    56. I think the reason why a person would collect dolls is varied so the sexual orientation of the doll owners would vary because of the variety and therefore the orientation of dolls would also. I do not think it is necessarily a direct link between owner sexuality and doll sexuality.

    57. I don't see many asexual dolls around the place. Plenty of bi dolls certainly, and just as many gay (male) dolls. Where are all the asexual dolls? Apparently 1% of the population is asexual, so I think 1% of the dolly population should be asexual too. Stop with all the procreation, people!

Just kidding. Several of my dolls are asexual not because I am, but because their characters are. It's just the way they've worked out: they're pretty strange characters anyway and some of them are a bit too... er... unhealthy for something as normal and healthy as sexuality.

    58. My dolls would most likely be asexual. Since I was for awhile til I found the love of my life and it wasn't myself.

    59. They're all hanging out over at my place? XD

The vast majority of my dolls are either specifically asexual or else they're essentially treated as such. Unless it's a big part of their character, I don't specify sexuality for many of my dolls. Even for the characters who do have a sexuality, there are no romantic/sexual relationships among my dolls.

I temporarily worried that it would feel unrealistic to avoid such things, but then I realized that: a) my collection is full of ghosts, talking cats, and dryads, so there's no big reason to worry about realism, and b) it's my collection, so heck with it, I'll do what I want. XD

This would be one of those cases where owner sexuality influences the dolls, though, as I'm asexual myself.

    60. I wouldn't consider it linked at all, nor an outlet by any means. I had a preference for homosexuality in my art, writing, characters, et cetera long before I realized that I was homosexual. I think it's just a matter of the owner's preference. It's not uncommon to see gay, straight, bi, whatever dolls all mixed in together in a person's collection, whether the owner is any of the above.

Good question though, I had to think on it for a little bit!
