Dolls' Sexuality and Owner's Sexuality: Are they related?

Feb 22, 2011

    1. I'm...not entirely sure either. I really dont like things like sexuality and gender, that's who I am. I always choose to remain genderless and have peers decide for themselves what they'd like to refer to me as. My characters are of mixed genders and sexualities. I don't really think one outweighs the other o.o

    2. My sexuality is part of me, but I don't think it has anything to do with my doll collecting.
Some people define themselves by their sexuality, and that's okay. So it is something to consider when making characters, and that can make it easier to form a solid character in your head. But if their doll's sexuality was the first thing someone told me about their doll I would wonder why they felt I needed to know.
I might be walking into hypocritical waters now, but I do want to get two girls simply because I think they make such a cute couple, and I love the contrast of a girly-girl with a tomboy, and that might reflect my preferences but quite frankly it's more my aesthetics because I don't like sexualizing my dolls.
I don't think people should be defined by who I find physically appealing, there are more interesting things about me and my dollies. :)

    3. I'm pansexual, meaning I really don't give two shakes of a lamb's tail about physical sex nor gender identity. You could be a hermaphrodite for all I care who acts like some gender we don't even know about. If you're a good person and have an appearance I like, you're in for the dating scene. :P

Anyway, my characters (and upcoming dolls based from them) have sexualities as varying as their personalities and sense of fashion. Kim, for example, is more leaning towards other males, and very physically communicative. When I go to make a doll based on my character and forum namesake, Luke, he will be gay as daisies with his cross-dressing sense of fashion to match.

Does my own sexuality influence theirs? Nah. I would like to think my open-minded nature allows me to see that everybody is an individual and that we all have different lives to live.

    4. THIS

was more or less what I was trying to get at. Thank you for explaining it better

    5. I myself am straight. However, it doesn't stop me from being a very huggy person with any gender. I tend to get in people's bubbles sometimes. XD

However, my dolls vary. Lore's a pansexual, Jaryth is bisexual and unable to really commit formally( though he does tend to attract men more often than women), Az is openly gay ( and only wants Jaryth), Helena is also pan, while Akiharu is ambiguous (he's probably bisexual, but he always claims to be straight and then flirts with guys), and Marik, Kiva and Miki are quite straight. I don't think my own sexuality has influenced them, as some of them were pre-determined characters, while others just spawned their sexualities all their own.

    6. Simple answer? No. I don't care about anyone's sexuality nor does sexuality influence how my dolls characters are. Sexuality ISNT as big a deal as the media make out. It just really isn't.

    7. I have to agree with oOnyaOo, I have absolutely nothing wrong with same-sex relations but I am straight and I still very much love BJDs. That being said my doll "plays for a different team" but it doesn't reflect my own personal orientation.

    8. Not related, as far as I can tell. I like guys and I like male dolls. My male dolls are mostly straight, but some are bi- or gay. I also have female dolls ... I don't think any of them are lesbian, but who knows? To me, m/m is cool as there are more lovely males to play about with doll-wise. In real life, I'd be out of the loop, so it wouldn't be fun at all--for me, anyway! *_*

    9. I am with April! My males vary between straight, bi, and gay as well. So far the adult females are straight, but I don't know on the minifees, even though they look older than my minis, who are around the age of 10!

    10. In my case, I'm openly pansexual. I find beauty in anything, no matter the person's gender at all. I can't honestly say that there is a link between my open sexuality for girl or boy and the way my dolls 'swing'. I was raised in a family with many homosexual relatives, but by far the biggest influence was my transexual uncle. He told me such a wise thing, that your gender assingment shouldn't define you at all, but let you define your own gender. Perhaps it is abstract thinking, but that in itself has certainly changed the way I view things.
I suppose that is the closest thing I can get to the link for myself. I never thought there should be gender boundaries, who is to ban dresses from males and cargo jeans and ball caps from females? So I apply that with my dolls and characters for future dolls. I have one male who is openly homosexual, one who is asexual, another who is pansexual, and more that range all over the spectrum.
I'm thinking that it is mostly preference, but to get nitty-gritty with deep physcological processes, there might be a hidden link. But out-front and obvious? I'm not exactly seeing one. I mainly go with what is right for that character, but I'm sure that somewhere in the confines of my mind that there is some subconcious choice making going on.
But we'll save that for a rainy day.
      For now, no real link.

    11. Wow, a lot of Bi-sexuals!

Now that you think about it, the types to watch anime and read manga (in my experience) have a big percentage of Bi and homosexualities. And BJD are after all closely linked with this.
Not to mention, I see people who are Bi as open minded right?
In my personal opinion, everyone has the ability to be "Bi", its is all about opening our mind, and accepting.

      ...on a smaller scale;
a lot of people I know can't understand why I spent so much money on these "creepy dolls"
I guess they just need to open up their minds too.

Would be intersting to see if these two things are more closely linked, 'cuz I'm deffinatly seeing some correlation.

    12. I never consider sexuality to link to bjd. I'm am girl but I can't stand girls:sweat Too much drama, backstabbing, grudge, and crap (not meant for Every girls, just most of the one I know.) So, I'm going to have to say I'm heterosexual.

    13. Guys can be just as drama filled, grudgey and backstabbing too you know~

    14. LOL I think it is linked for sure. I am Bi, but I was a Lesbian when I bought my first doll. I hated hetrosexual anything. But, I found this guy and was very open, and we ended up in a serious realationship. Now I think I'm not hetrophobic, but I think my dolls are probably going to be 'Gay' or 'Bi' more likely (Not that I'd force them into anything). My two boys experimented at first and now they're just really good friends.

    15. I don't really think they're linked, but I wouldn't rule them out as sexual outlets- have you seen some of the MxM pictures people have of their dolls? They're not strictly sexual outlets - more like creative ones. I don't really think it's any different than writing- making these characters who have their own personalities, identities and letting them act out through these personas, using the dolls as the body.

Granted, I too am bisexal (maybe more pansexual? I don't know, I care about the human being, the person, not what's in their pants or whatever) and I am a soon-to-be doll owner, like many others here. My doll- my one and only, who is on her way here- is straight. I have three more dolls planned (HOPEFUL, I am) one straight male, one lesbian/bisexual, and one child who is too young to know her/his sexuality because I say so. Haha.

From what I've read in this thread, I don't really see a link here at all. I think there might be a third variable that makes sexuality and dolls' sexuality linked, but I don't think the owner's sexuality makes all that much of a difference.

I also agree with vonbonbon & Splynterhayde, pretty much everything they said. Not that I disagree with anything, but I haven't considered all of it before. Dolls/characters shouldn't be labeled by their sexual orientation, as it doesn't define who they are as a character, but it is part of who they are. It's kind of a two-way street, honestly. It's like having blue eyes, or having a small skeletal structure, or not liking peas. It plays a part in their 'life'. The personifying the sexual orientation was an interesting point I hadn't considered also. But I find it to be a bit off topic, though something to ponder.

I definitely don't think there's a correlation between the two; maybe a third variable, as I previously mentioned.

    16. I never consider relating the owner's sexuality to the doll's sexuality n___6

    17. i guess i never think of dolls as having a sexuality, so this never even occurred to me!

    18. Maybe. I'm slightly freer when it comes to sexuality and that would definitely be something I bring to some of my dolls. With my own experience I might be my open to the possibilities but I think it would depend more on the dolls character. I can imagine wanting to create a world with my dolls where any adult is free to love, I can see the appeal because the real world isn't like that. But, I don't know there will be all sorts, if I have a female character who likes men I'm not just going to randomly make her be with a woman it'll be down to character.

    19. I know there is a large amount of straight girls that like "gay men" (same with straight guys, they like when 2 girls kiss) so that can influence a dolls sexuality because they can make their doll's sexuality what they find attractive whether they're hetero, bi, or homo. So while yes, their own sexuality can influence it (ie. a lesbian finds 2 girls kissing attractive - so their girl dolls will be lesbians) it can also be the opposite (ie. a straight girl finds two girls kissing attractive despite being drawn to men - so they have a lesbian doll) I also think the androgyny of most male dolls influences the sexuality, when people see 'feminine male' they like to lable "homosexual" (even if that is not always true)

    20. I always wanted a lot of children, and I dreamed of having a lot of them as a little girl. I always had dolls as a child and treated them as if they were human. Sexuality to me as far as they are concerned have nothing to do with having them. I just like to primp on things! Dolls are a matter of choice and BJD's happen to be the best on the market. You can primp on them to look anyway you want!

    21. I never would have thought that the dolls and sexuality have something in common. It seems to me that this is just pure coincidence. It's like saying that people who collect stamps or postcards are always single.

    22. I'm straight and my only doll is straight xD I guess it is linked, and i see nothing wrong with being homosexual or bisexual ^^ I just personally am not attracted to my own sex, and neither is my doll (or any of my dolls). Just because, that's the way i want them. :)

    23. I never even thought of making my dolls straight or same sex oriented until this thread. I think that doll collecting as a hobby means different things to different collectors. I just see a doll and think its beautiful and buy it and dress it up. I enjoy giving them names like they were children I was adopting. This has made me take a good look at my dolls so far and one thing I have noticed about all of them is that they have an innocence about them and that is what attracts me to them.

    24. 100% this.

Although my characters spring from my imagination (I don't have dolls yet but I already have two fully-fleshed out characters just waiting for resin bodies to step into) their personalities, preferences, mannerisms are unrelated to my own. I don't project myself onto my characters. Dolls are dolls, people are people. Some people may feel that they personally have such a link, but I think it is going much too far to call this a trend among the BJD community.

    25. Hmmm... to be honest, owner's sexuality isn't something that comes up much between me and the other doll owners I know. I think the majority are heterosexual, but really don'thave a reliable way of telling short of asking them all.

As for dolls.... well mine are mostlu too "young" for it to be an issue (some of them are to young for gender to be an issue either).

      Teddy

    26. I am a male with one homosexual boy doll and one straight boy doll. I think it would make for alot of bickering and fighting to give them this situation. One unable to date due to the lack of opposite sex and one boy doll having no other male companionship except for the straight boy. Its almost humorous. I would love to get more straight boys and maybe one girl to level out the field. =S and also yes i am homosexual but dont want to push that upon a doll, unless they seem right for it. =D

    27. I don't think so.
My first girl Hikari, didn't have an orientation until my second girl Kit, who like me is gay, arrived. They are now a couple. Maybe if I'd got a boy they would be together instead.
The third girl I had always intended to be straight, as was her boyfriend once I'd bought him for her. Lorrie My 5th doll is Bi, but she will have a boyfriend. So no. They only doll I'd openly PLANNED to be gay was Kit.

    28. I dont own a doll yet, but I am bisexual
I don't think that I'd show my sexuality through my doll. I think it would effect my doll. It would just be my invision for my doll and how I created them.
If my doll speeks to me as gay then thats what they'd be, same with being straight.

    29. I think my own sexuality effects my doll collecting. My collection is heavily weighted on the boy side. And when I occasionally consider selling a doll it is almost always one of my girls, as I find it soo difficult to part with any of the boys. I think there is some level of sexuality in dolls in at least the aesthetics of it all. We purchase based on how they look usually, and those that appeal to us, it maybe subconsciously, but all the same it's based on what we find appealing. Be that innocence, curviness, more athletic or whatever.
So the long short is i think sexuality has some play in it, but def not the sole reason.

    30. The OCs my dolls shell have sexual orientations that span across the spectrum; some are gay, some bi, some straight. I also have one who identifies as poly and another as asexual in my current collection. When it comes to gender identity and expression, there is... variety, to say the least.

In my personal situation, yes---my own orientation (and gender identity) influences how I create my characters. However, I want them to be known and/or liked for their overall concept and what they represent, not simply for their sexual preferences.

So while I think there might be a correlation for some collectors, I think the level of influence varies by a case by case basis.

    31. I'm bisexual, and I think it kind of shows in my choice of dolls and OCs. But it's complicated.
In a nutshell, while I am more physically and emotionally attracted to girls (99% of my characters are female), my dolls and characters tend to be straight, so it's kind of like the heterosexual side of my brain manifests in my characters. I'm an odd cookie. XD

As for a large portion of the doll collector population being somewhat less than heterosexual, I think it might be partially because at some level, if you're gay or bi (or whatever) you're kind of used to not fitting in with society's definition of "normal". You're used to not giving a hoot what others think about you, so you're more comfortable with yourself, as opposed to many girls I know who like BJDs but won't collect them because "it's weird".

    32. Aha, THIS was what I was getting at. Sort of. Your characters/dolls speak to you... maybe not literally, but you know, like when you're trying to name them and one name that you hadn't even considered just clicks. It's like that with sexuality. If you're trying to make a character homosexual and it doesn't feel right, then they're probably not homosexual.

I have no idea if this clashes with what I just said. Don't judge me, I haven't had my coffee yet. XD

    33. Coffe definitely would help but then again, this is a general idea of the answer for your question. Ok so for recap, Im totally against stereotypes or stereotyping peolpe. Me being gay, i totally pass for straight...even if i can come off as looking "loud". (view profile for clarification) But in the case with my dolls, yes if i get a sense of the doll possibly bein gay bi or curious....BAM!! Labeled as such. I guess u can call it dolly gaydar. =S

I hope that makes sense.....it is early for me to be typing this much...

    34. I am stright but all my dolls are either bi, gay or to young to be interested in love. I am not saying that I will never get a stright doll couple but I have not really thought to much about a stright one yet.

When it comes to my dolls I prefer bi or gay couples. Always thought it were more cute and more interesting than a stright couple. I believe my doll tastes got somethiong to do with my big yaoi and shounen ai obsession<3

I do not have any girl couples yet either but if I should make up a new bjd couple. And choose between making up a girl couple or a stright couple, I think I would have gone for the girls. Idk a stright doll couple never really interested me much. I feel like it is a bit boring..:sweat

    35. I really don't think they are related at all. I am straight and my doll has a preference for whoever suits his fancy at the time being. Your personality and your dolls personality are on very different levels, in my opinion.

    36. Personally, I have no idea what I am, I'd be willing to have a relationship with a person regardless of what they look like or anything like that as long as they care about me.

As for my dolls, I feel like it's more what I'm interested in. I've been branching out more recently, and will probably have a rather balanced doll family because of it. I'm planning on owning mostly sexuality ambiguous dolls, because honestly I don't have dolls so I can pair them up, and most of them are going to be a family. If love sparks here and there it'll be because it just does.

    37. It may be related for some people, but I believe it all depends on the owner's personal "doll experience." For example, someone may have a doll that is very much like themselves (which would share their own sexuality) or, in contrast, some people create dolls off of preexisting characters (in which the sexuality is already decided.)

I myself am a bisexual female; however, my doll (Gabriel) is a heterosexual female. It wasn't as if I had planned to assign her a sexual orientation when I bought her, but I created a character for her and she just happened to be heterosexual.

    38. I am bi, gravitating more towards the females (because a Sean Connery is hard to find) and my doll is lesbian. I guess I fit into the theory. :)
But I agree that it matters why you got a doll in the first place. Mine looked like a girl I liked, I guess her preferring women would be obvious. :D
However, if I ever get more dolls, I will also have some males and will most likely have straight couples as well. :)

    39. Until this thread, I never even considered a connection, nor whether my dolls were "straight" or "gay". All my dolls are female, with the exception of two males. The two males I would guess are gay and bi. The girls are all straight, expect that a few like to be androgenous and tomboy-ish. My sexuality has no impact on the perceived sexuality of my dolls. It is pure coincidence that we all like men:)

    40. I don't personally think that a person's sexuality plays into their dolls or corresponds to their characters most of the time. Maybe some do try to work out their ideas of personal sexuality with their characters or dolls, but I'm sure it's a smaller amount.

And I guess for perspective purposes, I'm a straight female, who's dolls characters sexualities very, from gay, straight, bi, undecided, clueless, and intentionally misleading.

    41. I think there could be correlations with the 'outskirts of society' and being part of a very open-minded community that may have a tendency to attract a GLB sort of population. More interestingly, though, I might look more towards those who have many dolls. Out of say six dolls, how many of them are gay or straight? Are ALL of the dolls gay/bi? I think it has a lot more to do with how the general structure of the 'yaoi' fandom goes. According to society, guys dig watching two girls kiss... girls dig watching two guys kiss. _xD To me, it's all just a funny, funny world. Ultimately, I suppose it could be a bit of a coincidence... But I do notice that there are beaucoup number of gay/bi doll characters out there (one in every household almost) and quite a noticeable number of gay/bi dollie owners. Guess I vote for the accepting artsy culture and the 'out of the norm' influence on the whole shpeel, too. I'll make one final note on the matter, though, and say that for myself, I find it as more like an interesting character dynamic to explore.

I associate myself with being 'asexual'. So far there's one gay, one bi, and four straight. Aaaaa-yup. Except that three out of the four straight ones are female.... and one of them is still too young to know any better... FUUUUUUUU...

    42. HA! Ditto for me :P

My girl is not at all an outlet for my sexuality however, but she is coincidentally a lesbian (with no partner). I really connect with my things (possibly at an abnormal level) so with her, she just spoke to me that it was who and what she was. Then she sort of came together for me from there. I absolutely love her to death though she's the most awesome doll I have EVER had the pleasure of "meeting".

    43. I have noticed that a lot of straight girls like to have gay male characters. Kinda like yaoi. I don't really understand the connection.

    44. This is an interesting topic. With my dolls, I'll have (using future tense since I don't have all the dolls for the couple) one gay couple and the rest all straight or too young to know any better. But for me in general, I like to design characters based on the "You love who you love" philosophy. Gender doesn't matter, if you love them enough. So my dolls aren't really gay...they just love the other person too much to care about gender (I think one might be gay, but the other has been uninterested until he met the other...still not sure if that's how things went down...I'll have to see what my dolls say lol). I do think there's a definite attraction to a certain gender if you feel a certain way (I'm straight so, so far I've only been attracted to men kinda thing). I don't think my dolls reflect my preferences. True I do like shounen ai and whatnot, but the reason I made the couple was because they felt so perfect for each other. I got kinda deep there lol...and I wasn't doing a good job of explaining...does what I said make sense kinda?

    45. Of the 30 I currently have home or planned, here are the stats:

3 gay men: Amir, Matt, Kaid
10 bisexual adults: Loki [married to a man], Maddox [dating a man], Blake [engaged to a man], Mike [married to a man], Mikko [married to a man], Billie [engaged to a woman], Heath [in a relationship with a man], Jayson [engaged to a man], Kane [dating a woman], Mige [dating a man]
10 straight adults: Axl, Erik, Ashley, Claire, Olli, Cosmos, Titus, Noble, Dylan, Tanner
1 asexual/demisexual: Hansel, though he is engaged to a man...so....demisexual/romantic, as in, he only is interested in the sexual aspects of it with his partner AFTER falling in love in a non-sexual way, and no one else, not even interested in looking
      2 pansexual: Sixx, Xerxes
2 children who are too young to know yet: Venice, Zack
1 male child who is only 9, but showing a very strong preference for men: Parker
1 unknown : Gus (Is a grail doll I'll likely never own, so I haven't gotten that far in developing him yet)

I am bisexual, though when in a relationship, I am ONLY with that person. So while it was purely subconscious, the highest percentage of my dolls are bisexual, like me, but in a committed relationship, like me. However, currently, most of my bisexual dolls are in homosexual relationships, and I am in a heterosexual relationship. Tied for highest percentage is straight....hmmm....

    46. I have already answered to this thread, but there is something else that just came to my mind concerning the connection of the doll's and the owner's sexuality. Could it be that the ones answering to this thread specifically tend to be the ones who are thinking more about their orientation in general, and these happen to be the non-heterosexual rather than the heterosexual because well, if you are not hetero, you simply have more problems with your orientation as you grow up in our society? This way, the impression that there are more non-heterosexual doll owners would be an artefact (=artificially created through the kind of survey).

...and my "statistical approach" to my doll collection's sexuality has ceased to function, by the way. I had tried to keep the "lifetime incidence of sexual interest in one's own sex" under 20% for my doll characters, but it doesn't work anymore ^^

    47. I don't really consider myself to have a defined "sexuality". I have a girlfriend of whom I'm very attracted to currently, but I don't consider myself a "lesbian". I think that every human has the potential to fall in love with another human, and that gender shouldn't be a barrier between them. I think there is equal potential that my soul mate can be either male of female, and I will not scrutinize anyone or rule anyone out before I get to know them and give them a chance at my heart. It's hard to explain, and someone reading this might think, "oh, you're bisexual and haven't realized it yet", but that is definitely not the case. I suppose I just feel that labeling yourself is like building a wall around yourself, and you're just pushing people and opportunities away.

I don't give my dolls sexuality. I did at first (I had two boys who I placed together), but I re-did my characters designs completely and I have eliminated all background stories for now. I will not be placing them together again, that much I know for sure. My reason? Simple. I kind of feel that the whole "my doll is gay/bi" thing has become...how shall I put it...glamorized? ^^; I don't want to word it in a way that sounds offensive, and I certainly don't mean it that way at all, so please no one take it that way. I just see A LOT (and I mean A LOT) of sexual orientated dolls of the homosexual nature as of late, and I'm not really sure what to think of it. I think a lot of it may have to do with a relation to anime/yaoi and the BJD hobbies colliding at conventions (as someone mentioned earlier).

The ratio of gay male to lesbian female dolls is alarmingly different as well, from what I've seen in the galleries. There are always photos that haven't been taken, of course. I just feel that the yaoi-gay doll connection is very strong, and people fashion their dolls into what they've read in yaoi stories and fanworks. Most of the time, this is a really unrealistic view on how a relationship works anyways (as is in all media, but life as a "homosexual" person is not all it's cut out to be in manga that I've read!!). It just sort of irks me whenever I see an unrealistic relationship (straight, gay, in the doll hobby or in a movie, doesn't matter), so maybe that's why I avoid giving my dolls the potential to "be with someone"? Who knows.

Probably should stop talking now, before I sound stupid (oh, wait, its too late for that).

    48. Hmmm. I never considered this before! For me, I don't base characters around a doll mold--instead, I take my own existing characters, and browse around until I stumble across a face/body that really resembles them (probably true for a bunch others out there?), so--yeah. I think it really is more of a creator/character dynamic--how much (or little) of yourself do you put into your own characters?

I only own one doll so far, she's straight as a rail, but I'm not, and out of all my wishlist future dolls--only one or two are gay, with the rest being hetero. I usually find myself putting other snippets of me into my characters/dolls--personality quirks, some likes or dislikes, etc. I do think the accepting atmosphere of the arts really draws a lot of LGBT people, myself included.

I've even noticed a margin of transgendered dolls, too (in the DZ MSD thread, there was some side chat)--doll heads that come on /one/ body, but are designated to become (sooner or later) a character of the opposite gender. It was neat to see people take up the same dynamics with dolls that they do with actual trans people ("On the inside, they're really a boy/girl, so that's what they'll be to me, no matter the body." vs. "Well, it's on a girl build, so I really can't see that mold, as it is, being anything other than a girl.")

    49. xD I think my dolls reflect my preferences. Male and straight. If I ever have a homosexual doll for some odd reason, it would be way out of place since none of my other dolls are. (And one of the characters are completely against that sort of thing in the first place.) I also considered buying some girl dolls too but for the girls, I'd want smaller or younger dolls because they just look so precious and I'd be one of those weirdos calling them my "babies" all the time. OTL

    50. I have never really considered my dolls sexual preference, Its not something i really think about, even though they all have characters and personalities, I don't really go too far down that road.
Not from being prudish but I have never considered it, Being a Gay man i don't feel the need to have gay dolls, i suppose if i thought about it i could probably say this one is this or that one is that, i don't know why and only thought of it when i saw this thread! lol
Usually my dolls are mates/girlfriends going out shopping or for lunch! (that is such a gay thing to say)! hahaha

    51. i dont think my dolls have a sexual preference. guy or girl.

    52. Interesting topic, I've always wondered the percentage of gay/bi people in this hobby because in these years I've known about many heterosexual women that have met another woman (in bjd forums) and they are now in a long and solid relationship. I think it is very curious, but I don't know if this happens everywhere, and well, it makes some sense if you think that in a community where most of the people are girls with interests in common and an "artistic side", you can feel attracted to somebody in many different ways.

I'm lesbian and almost all my dolls are gay or maybe bi, and I can only think about non-heterosexual relationships for my doll/characters, but I don't think that dolls orientation is directly related with the owner sexuality; most of the time we reflect an "ideal" in our dolls and this is a way to abstract ourself from our reality, as most of the hobbies. In my case, I've grown up in a very catholic/traditional family and I felt and still feel oppressed, and I think that for that reason all my dolls are the opposite.

Also I know many heterosexual girls who have all their dolls with the perfect "love story", and other girls who have gay couples, or mix... I'm sure it is not related with your own sexuality, but with the way you see the life and that you feel comfortable.

*I hope my English makes sense in the way I tried to explain my thoughts ><

    53. I personally don't think that my dolls reflect my sexuality much at all. Although now that I'm thinking about it, all the dolls I have planned are straight women, and I am a straight woman. But I honestly don't think about my dolls' sexuality much, outside of planning potential partners for them.

    54. I'm a girl and straight, but very prone to girl crushes. I don't think my sexuality affects my dolls as far as their characters, since I have at least one of every option, but I do think it affects what dolls I have.
Like I said I'm very prone to girl crushes, so it doesn't surprise me one bit that my bjd collection is overrun with girls. I have a couple boys, but they are definatly in the minority.

    55. Hmm :o You know, I think they are related.
Because.... I'm straight, and I guess the stories that I make with my dolls are also that way, since that's what I relate to the most and enjoy.
Probably also to buck the stereotype that beautiful guys are all gay, haha  Rebel with a cause. (Though I have a hard enough time even convincing people that my pretty boys even -are- boys..... )

    56. I'm pansexual, and my girl (though right now, she is my only doll) is bisexual. So, it seems like you could compare those things and say that our sexualities are related, but our preferences are in fact very different... I'm very picky about the people I like, but she would do basically anyone who gave her a second glance :sweat

Now before I continue, I would like to explain that I'm not trying to point the finger or say that any opinion or preference is "wrong", I'm just going to point out something that I've noticed...
I've seen this especially among anime/manga fans who are also fans of yaoi/yuri (and as we've established, this does tend to overlap into the BJD community): there seems to be a tendency for people who are homosexual (or maybe even just really like homosexual pairings) to assume that all or most characters are also homosexual. While the fact is that most people in the world are straight, birds of a feather do flock together and I think that people who are homosexual do tend to have homosexual friends (or dolls!), and the same goes for heterosexual people.

As for me, I think it really depends on the character. Some characters just are heterosexual and some just are homosexual, and some are in-between. It's all up to them :)

So bottom line, I think doll and owner sexuality can be related, but aren't always.

    57. I have a friend who is female and has a male doll. She feels more male in personality and we all agree that she would be a prime candidate for gender confusion. However she came to terms with herself quickly. She admits that she plays out her male side through her doll rather then herself. He is tall and handsome. She dresses him the way she would dress herself if she were male. She writes stories using him as her reference. He is her inner self and is how she displays her sexuality. So in a way you could be right with some doll owners but I don't think it applies to every one. That is what I love about dolls. They are a different outlet for each person.

    58. I am more of an 'asexual' really and a bit of an antisocial. Even though I did not have a doll yet, I only have one on my wishlist although I can buy a few. The doll is a girl and I am a girl. I never thought of getting a guy doll (or another doll for the matter) although I once did have a spur of 'I WANT!' when I saw a guy doll. But I never intend to get more than one doll. Even if I do get a guy doll along with the one I planned, they will only have a sibling relationship at most.

    59. I am a lesbian, but my doll is straight. To be honest this shocked my friend when she was saying I need to find a cute girl for her (my friend is straight btw and plans to make her boys gay once she starts in on this hobby) and I told her that I already had a boyfriend planned out for her. I don't really think the owners sexuality is reflected in their dolls. At least not for me.

    60. For me I am straight and, for now my 2, dolls are straight
though I would love to have a lesbian character and I do have a
gay (flaming Queen kind) i just wouldn't exactly know how to write it out.

Though i would think it would be the same as a heterosexual couple, I would need
to study people (cause I'm weird and love body language and movement and
minds of people) and see how the different relationships worked ^-^
