Dolls Party 23 Tokyo Big Sight [5-4-2010]

Mar 26, 2010

1. I live on the Toyo-Kousoku line. I'm relatively close to Katsutadai, which is on the Keisei ^^.

It's not that big a deal to find each other. Keitai help, and there are certain places that are always there - the one meet-up I went to, we met at the coatcheck.

After Events are good for getting stuff you couldn't from the Dolpa, but they are purely shopping. If you want to see dealers (like Silver! I'm happy you're on DoA now :)), One-Offs, participate in draws and bingo for free stuff, see a lot of dolls, and just generally be surrounded by doll-owners, then Dolpas are better. They are a long day, though, and I've never actually done the limited lines, which makes them much longer!

For people trying to get guidebooks from outside of Japan, I'm really not sure how people have done it in the past. Maybe email Volks?

2. OMG Heeeewwiiiiitttt *faints*

3. I will be there and, like rkold, it will be 3-days in a row for me too since I will have to attend SCC on 2nd and 3rd of May. I will go with my friends but still up for a meeting if you don't mind me joining^^ (and if we could find each others!)

4. Guidebook is also available on english website.
http://www.volks.co.jp/en/news/index_news78.aspx

Hope this helps^^

5. You can either buy the guidebooks on the international site or buy them from a Sumika after you arrive in Japan. It is usually still in stock a week or so before the event, but some Sumikas will run out of guidebooks 2-3 days before Dolpa.

Volks will also sell the guidebooks at the door starting at about 10am, I think, but as the lines for limited dolls and sumika items as well as the dealer room start forming from 6+, and the line for limited dolls gets cut-off at 8.45am, most people buy it beforehand.

6. I hope it's ok to ask. But do they still hold the face up classes at the Dolpas? Or is this event only special for some Dolpas?

7. They weren't just yesterday ^^ I checked today and here they are!
I'm pretty nervous, they start shipping them on 10th of april and I have flight to Japan on 19th, I'm afraid package might not arrive before I go to Japan >.> I think of placing japanese address which I have, but I dunno if I'll be in Japan when package arrives O_O;;;

How fast books would arrive when shipping in Japan? :/

8. ashlia Thank you so much for that information ^^ Really appreciate it.

9. Hope this time wont's release any thing I want...

10. turns out my friend offered to help me and ordered tickets for me :D
I'm going to dolpa:D

11. All Dolpas have face-up classes however the ones in Japan use a different procedure than they used to now. The classes need to be applied for in advance, are in Japanese only and are usually held before the actual Dolpa (at least in Tokyo) rather than concurrently. I believe they tend to hold them at the Harajuku Sumika since they have special class room space permanently. Since the application is in Japanese and my Japanese is minimal, and I tend to be booked solid the days before (SCC *cough* ) I don't tend to even think about applying.

The guidebook will have info on applying though! :)

12. I love your eyes and always make sure to visit your booth at any Dolpa I attend. I bought eyes from you for my favorite doll as well as some pairs of eyes for some of one of my best friend's dolls! :)

Just to warn you now, you will be exhausted by Dolpa unless you've not that into doujinshi lol I am REALLY into SCC and I find by my third day of getting on line at 6 am in the morning, waiting hours in line and then shopping for hours I am just exhausted. It doesn't help I find the selection food out at Big Sight lacking in the extreme. (I'm a vegetarian so the Volks bentos are always way out since Volks like many Japanese does not get the vegetarian concept.) I have been doing SCC every May since 2002 and I love it. Though this time if all goes well I won't have to get to Big Sight until closer to 8:30/9 for it. :D

13. It's great that you have someone help you buy the guidebook in Japan. If you order on international site, it will be shipped by ems which is very fast but may take 5-7 days to your country so still risky^^

14. Thank you so much for the info, rold! SCC is still okay compared to other comikets like natsucomi or fuyucomi which we have to wait in heat and cold for more than 4 hours. The weather was quite nice in Tokyo in early May when I was there last year so I hope I will survive^^ For foods, I think you could find some vegetarian sandwiches/Onigiri in Am Pm upstair but I am not sure though. I usually bring my own foods with me since, by the time I finish shopping, I will be too exhausted to go and buy foods^^

15. Just to add to this, for Dolpa Week there are two faceup classes. One is a more elaborate hands-on one held at the Harajuku Sumika. The other is a demonstration. This year the demonstration one will be held at Tokyo Big Sight on May 3rd, and the limited stuff available is: Mii-chan, Taa-chan, School Head A, School Head B, SD13 boy body, SD10 girl body, and Volks log books. I did this one last Dolpa and got a lot out of it for a one-hour thing. ^_^ And Valico was doing the demonstrating!

The longer, hands-on one is on May 5th. There are two separate classes offered, one for eyebrows and one for eye makeup. The goods available are the same as the May 3rd one, plus School Head A SwD, faceup kits, facecover sets, and wig/eye/eyelash sets for girls and boys.

The May 3rd classroom has extended the deadline, so it looks like you have a chance of getting in there. The May 5th one's deadline has already passed and it sounds like it's full.

16. Oh this sounds fantastic. I don't have problems with the language, so I think I should be ok! ^__^
Thanks so much timid and rkold! really helpful!

17. Yeah, I didn't want to risk it, now I'm pretty sure everything's gonna be fine ^^

18. It's important to note that lately, Volks hasn't been printing as many guidebooks ahead of time as they used to. For the past few Dolpas, the advance guidebooks have sold out. So if you want to buy limiteds, make sure that you get your guidebook well in advance!

19. How do you apply for the face-up classes/how much do they cost? (And is the school head an extra fee…? I'm guessing so.)

20. At least at Sato, they have the application form next to the cash register. On the form you can check off which head you want to buy, if you need a body for it, a make-up kit, etc.

21. Wait... what... I thought Volks just got finished emptying everyone's wallets! I can't keep up with this company! Lol.
I kid. Can't wait to see what they throw our way this time. :whee: I'm personally hoping for a lovely new SD13 girl. <3

22. Thanks for the info, neverything. How much are the heads, does anyone know?

23. I was looking at the application online the other day and I think the heads were a little over ¥15,000 including tax.

24. can i just say......"again".......><my wallet

25. I just reserved my ticket in Akihabara, they're gonna send a postcard when the guidebook is ready to be collected :D

26. Okaaaayyy - Ordered the guidebook on international site - hope it arrives on time.

So, if you have the guidebook that is your ticket into Dolpa? Or do you have to pay at the door as well?

27. The guidebook is your ticket. You also need for things like bingo and the quiz and the one-offs, so don't lose it once you get inside! ^^

28. Yeah, and always 10,000 yen more at least on the aftermarket -_-;. I wish they'd offer more School Cs . . .

29. Thanks for the answer!

Guess I am going to Dolpa then ^^ That is, if my guidebook shows up on time :/

Bingo? Since I do not speak any Japanese that might be a bit hard to participate in lol

Think I will just be looking around... Guess it depends of what DDs they decide to bring out. Then I might be joining a queue :D

30. Start studying your numbers! Think of this as good practice, if nothing else.

31. Lately, Volks has been announcing the #s in English and in Japanese for the bingo, or at least they did at the Golden Week Dolpa in 2009. It didn't matter for me, I never have any luck at such things and didn't even get 4 in a row lol

32. Mr. Shigeta likes announcing the English numbers, I swear. It's kinda cute. At the last Dolpa, I got double-riichi but no bingos . . . *sigh*

Plus they write the numbers on a big board. The janken part might be harder if you're not used to rock-scissors-paper, but language skills aren't really necessary for the bingo. ^_^

33. I know it's pretty much impossible, but... Yukinojo re-release, please!! :eusa_pray

34. There would definitely be people out there happy to see "Joe" again. I'd kind of like to see a SwD Colin/Remi release, but I doubt that's happening either ^o^.

35. I, as always, am dreaming of the perfect Suigintou :) Be she One-Off or re-release, it doesn't matter! But a Yukinojo re-release would be all kinds of awesome!

36. A Yukinojo re-release? OMG this would kill me for sure!!! I just got broke with Hijikata & Okita2nd >_< Please, Volks, let our poor wallets get some little rest between your releases!! :eusa_pray

37. Hmmm... I hope he's been practicing. I have interesting memories of him calling out numbers at NYC dolpa 2 and mixing up the seventeen vs. seventy thing and the wrong person coming up to collect a prize they hadn't won. In the end he wound up making a joke of it at his own expense, he's really cool... (An explanation: it's often hard for Japanese speakers to differentiate the final syllable -I know I teach english here)

38. Lyrajean, are you going to be at this Dollpa?! :D Long time, no see!

39. Sorry to double post, but I wanted to make sure this was seen.

I went to the Akihabara Showroom today and asked for a guidebook, and they told me they weren't available yet? Again. I asked for "５月の東京のドルパーグイドブック" and then he said a bunch of things I didn't fully understand, and then something about reservation… what? Any idea what I'm doing wrong or where I can actually get one?

40. If you say yes to the reservation. You fill out a form with your details and pay the 2,200 and you get a receipt (don't lose it).

The guy then asks you if you want them to call you or to send you a postcard.
When you receive the postcard or phonecall, you can collect the guidebook from the shop.

That's what I did :3

41. Okay, thanks. There's a shop closer to me than Akihabara, so I'll stop by sometime soon and make the reservation.

42. I think Mr Shigeta must had been praticing hard, he had make no mistakes in Kyoto this time~XD

43. Well, I can count to twenty in Japanese - but that is it lol

Me neither - But maybe hubby does! Bringing him along, poor soul.

Janken part???

44. With that many people partipating, bingos happen in batches. There's a device where you pull on strings to see which prize you get, and they need to determine what order people go in for that. As with most things in Japan, that's decided by janken (rock-scissors-paper, just in case). Er, it's easier to understand once you've seen it . . .

45. I imagine that Janken gets huge at Tokyo Dolpas. It should be fun to watch.

46. Last time I saw more than 20 person in a Janken and it is real fun! Though almost all the prizes gone after that Janken....XP
I do feel like the most enjoyable parts of Dolpa is not about buying dolls and dollies stuff, but the lotteries, the Bingo and the Janken.
It's really great fun when everyone in the dolpa join the activities like Bingo, and everyone laugh and play together.
The atmosphere of everyone having fun and enjoying the dolpa (with their SDs) makes me want to attend another dolpa! XD

47. Where'd they get that pic? They haven't even mentioned a new issue of Volks News anywhere yet . . . O_O

48. If that is real, the boy looks like MSD Hewitt to me and the Yos look like Kanon and Neon in a new wig. ^^

49. If Volks re-releases Hewitt... I think I might die.

50. I haven't gotten my Volks News yet, so I can't confirm if that picture is real or fake. A Dolpa with no new releases would be pretty disappointing.

51. I can't even find a notice that the News has gone out, and they usually announce it at least when they start mailing them, if not in advance. That's what's throwing me off here.

52. Plus, Volks News covers are super easy to fake now.

53. That doesn't look like an actual magazine to me. The person who posted it stated that it was taken with a cell phone--my guess would be from a poster, maybe at a local Sumika...? Provided if the picture is real. I'm willing to trust this one though. *crossing fingers*

There's an upright follow-up of the same picture:
http://0bbs.jp/superdollfie/img235_2

54. It seems to be a reverse side of this flyer which Volks has started distributing from yesterday.
And it seems Volks starts sending Volks News vol.38 around 13th April.

55. If that is real then I am happy. Finally my wallet is save between Kyoto DP and NYDP LOL LOL

56. XD Are you safe from Hewitt? One of them might be Hewitt.

57. Oh if this is real it looks like DP 23 will be exciting!
I'm squinting at the pic to imagine the outfits Ran and the girl below are wearing...
the msd boy to me the face shape doesn't seem quite like Hewitt maybe just the angle or maybe it's someone new!?
Hope to find out soon!

58. ohh they look cute , I hope to see nice view of them soon !!

59. I thought she looked like ran but isn't eyes bit far then ran?
she could be new harajuku girl *_*
