    3. Questions: do all the views have to be in color or can we do one main front view in color and the other views be just detail shots in black and white?

Also if the material that can be used is open to different ideas do we state the various ones that can be used or just name one main that would look good?

    4. Can we design shoes to go with this outfit, or is that too much? Also if we do not have a fabric in mind for the design, is that a bad thing?

    5. Two questions ^^ .

      1. We don't have to make actual patterns, with specific fabric measurements and types of stitches and things, for our designs, right? This is just concept stuff? It seems that way, but I just want to make sure.

      2. How does it make a difference what size doll a design is for? How should doll size as a factor effect how participants design clothes? Proportions, measurements? Or does it not really effect the design process at all?

Thank you, and this looks like a lot of fun,
      ali

    6. The front and back view should at least be in color, though side views probably don't need to be.

The materials don't need to be incredibly specific.

If you want to design shoes, you can, but I don't know if they would actually be made if the design is selected. I'll see if we can get DoP in here to clarify.

I think that descriptions of material (thick, thin, soft, fuzzy, smooth, silky, etc.) would be all right in lieu of specific types of cloth.

You only need to draw a design - there is no sewing or pattern-making involved.

Different sized dolls have different body types. For example, you wouldn't design a 27cm toddler outfit the same way that you would design a mature 60cm doll's outfit. Additionally, if the outfit is chosen to be made into a real garment, it would be made for the size category specified.

    7. If we aren't specific enough with the details, will you let us know? Or at least let us know that our submission wasn't accepted so we can amend any issues? Also, we can submit as many as we want? I really want to make sure, because I have literally pages upon pages of designs and plenty more I don't have on paper due to my doll's body type. :sweat

Also, is it possible to have size crossovers for designs? Because, depending on the sculpt, some of my designs could be used for dolls in anything 43cm and larger.
Or rather, can we submit the same design for more than one size category?

    8. for Nationality...do we put American if we live here? or do we like..want specifics? @o@

    9. I"m not completely sure about the number of entries

      When you say:

"You may enter as many drawings as you wish "

Are you saying that we can enter as many distinct outfit ideas as we wish or that we can have as many drawings as we would wish of the one design we enter?

      Thanks!

    10. Thank you very much, armeleia-san ^^ . I have a couple more questions too.

      3. If we post a design, can we show or note 'alternate variations', such as alternate color schemes, or if xxx element can optionally be swapped with yyy element (say, round or square buttons) ?

      4. Could we design and submits 'sets' or 'series', since there is no entry limit? For example, a set for a boy and girl Mini doll that are both designed in the same style/fashion, or a series of clothes for a Tiny doll that hold a recurring theme and similar design elements?

[EDIT] 5. Oh! And, if a design is 'chosen' as a design for use by DoP, and they gain the rights to the design, does the original creator still get to use their design in some ways? For example, creating a pattern for it and releasing it, or posting their images on their deviantART/portfolio. Or do they then need to first ask permission?

      Thank you,
      ali

    11. Please choose one category and stick with it.

You can enter as many designs as you want (DoP's choice, not mine!), but please don't just flood the contest inbox. Only submit your very best.

Just put the country where you live.

You can enter as many designs as you wish. Again, though, please only submit your very best entries and make sure that there are the required number of views for each one.

      3. Please remember that your entries are going to be judged by both the DoA mod staff AND the DoP staff. The latter group is not comprised of native English speakers. Keeping your description simple is really the way to go. Additionally, your descriptions will not be a part of the voting... so members will be voting what's in the picture, not what's in the description. So in short, I guess the answer would be "no."

      4. I'm not sure how many outfits the DoP staff are intending to make from the designs. They may or may not make one from each category... it depends on how they feel about the designs and productions feasibility. I would say that it's okay to make outfits that are series, but I wouldn't make that your "thing" because it's unlikely that they will all (or even multiples) will be made.

      5. As the rules say "The designs and the finished clothing will become the property of Dolls of Paradise." This would mean that the designer would not be able to use that design commercially or distribute a pattern for it. You could post the design images on your dA, but you couldn't use the image in ways that could compete with DoP's sales.

    12. Thanks for the clarification! :)
I'll do my best not to flood your inbox. :sweat

    13. Thank you for your reply. I'll try not to complicate things with random notes and scribbles XD .

      ali

    14. Hello! I have a couple questions.
First, they will be judging our designs simply on the outfit, right? I'm not that great at human anatomy, so the body shape might look a little off.
Second, can the contestants vote? When the time comes, I'll be really excited to see everyone else's design so it would be fun if I could vote for my favorite.
Last, how detailed does the description have to be? I'm not an expert seamstress, so I'm not 100% accurate on how to put clothes together.
      thank you!

    15. I had to send two PMs cause I forgot to say the sizes in the first PM...

      Sorry about that. XP

    16. Do the outfits need to be drawn on a doll or can they stand alone. ^_^

    17. Does it matter if the model is totally human? Like would it be okay to give them pointy elf ears or something?

Oh and how closely does the drawn model have to resemble the figure of a BJD?

Okay another one xD It there like a limit to pieces in the outfit? Like can it have a few different layers and accessories, like a cape or something that's not attached but part of the outfit?

    18. Is there a size limit for the images? And should there be different drawings for different portions of the garment if they are meant to be able to be worn seperately as well? I ask this because layers don't show up so well in drawings all the time.

    19. i wanna enter that one 00

    20. Ok to be honest I have no scanner and also if I am messing with paper and pencil well I am really inadequate. So is it okay if my submission is digitally done for some reason I am more adapt with a computer. It would still be my ideas and design but just done with my paintshop program and not a hand drawn one.

    21. uchiha, when I had not got scanner I normally take photos to my drawings, put it in a illuminate place and try^^
Put the camera on the drawing in a paralel possition, if you put the drawing in vertical possition in a window you can take the photo putting yourself in front of it with the camera in the same possition(vertical). It looks as if you had scanned it^^.
Hope you can understand what I mean u_u

      I have a question:
      Could I join the contest?

    22. They can be drawn just as outfits.

The model isn't really important, so you can make them an elf if you want. It doesn't really matter if they resemble a BJD, but you should take into account what would look good on a BJD body shape. i.e. Designing to cover joints, thinking of how the clothes would fit and drape on a BJD body (Corsets aren't going to pull in a BJD's waist), etc.

The outfit can have a lot of pieces if you want, but keep in mind production feasibility.

You can draw them however you feel shows the pieces best.

Yes, this contest is open to all DoA members.

    23. Hikasita I understand what you are saying but as I also stated I can be a bit inadequate when it comes to drawing by hand and somehow I seem to do better by doing things through a paint or other computer software so that is what I was asking...... If it's okay that the design was made with a computer program and not done on a pad and paper.

    24. I second this question, I do draw on paper, but then I will usually scan to a computer for cleaning up and colouring.

    25. If the sides and backs of some accessories are basically the same as the front is it necessary to add a detail drawing of it? Thank you ^^

Ex. If I have a pair of leggings that have no detail on them all the way around but they are the same color are the other drawings of it necessary?

    26. Oh, sorry, I understand now^^

    27. This may seem to be a silly question, but should we stick to things that are appropriate for boys or girls, rather than the more mature sculpts? A peek over at DoP suggests that their lines are more 'all ages' and flexible in that regard. I'm guessing that keeping it PG-13 is necessary no matter what, obviously, :) -- but there are some things that might be more appropriate to the more mature sculpt body styles than the more childlike ones.

Sorry if this sounds like a finicky question, but I didn't want to send something that wouldn't fit in, just in case the more adult sculpts (like the super gems or EIDs) weren't really the target group for designs. :blush

    28. This question was asked before, but I'm not really sure if the answer was applying to it, at least in the way I'm thinking, so could we put alternate colour schemes on the side, like no descriptions, just a couple of alternately coloured versions, or should we chose one and stick with it?

And can we use patterns when colouring? Even though they might not be able to find that cloth or something.

    29. ^w^ I have a fews questions, I don't think they have been replied.

I'm bad when it comes to draw but yeah, I was wondering do we have to color our drawing by hands or can we use PC ? Even by pc, my work won't be pro or anything, I don't have a tablet so it is just to give a more neat result. I might finish to color by hand by the way XD

Second, I'm sorry, I'm unsure, can I submit outfit for boys and also girls or it is just boys or girls ?

And as I'm french, I'm sometimes lost with special words as pleather, vinyl, etc ..... because here I don't even think we would make a difference. And sometimes the words I used do not mean exactly the same fabric, so does someone here know a good lexique I could use ? .-. I will search myself of course but if someone know one, it would be sweet <3

thank you for the replies ^o^

    30. I understand sticking to one size bracket, but what about gender? Since multiple entries are aloud, could I design something for a girl MSD for example and then also design something for a boy MSD? I'd be staying under the MSD size category, but instead of focusing on one gender I'd be looking at both. Is that alright?

Just want to make sure I understand everything before I try and work out designs for entry. ^^ Thanks!

      -L. Thesta

    31. For maturity of sculpt, use your best judgement. Taking a note from the 'intention' of the DoP outfits already produced is a good way to handle it, I think.

You may draw by hand and color on computer. No problems there. However, stick to one color scheme per outfit; choose whichever you think suits your outfit best.

You could enter as many size/ gender entries as you want. So yes, you could submit an outfit for MSD boy and an entry for MSD girl.

    32. I'm sorry you have to answer so many questions, but I have a few more!

Is there a preferred size for our submissions (i.e. 8.5" by 11")? And would it be best to have all the views on one page? Do all three views need to show the full costume, or would it be acceptable to have the side view, for example, only from the waist up? Also, should/can the descriptions be on the page with the design, or is it best to have them in the body of the PM? If we are submitting multiple entries, do you want them all in the same PM?

Sorry again to flood you with questions!

    33. Good luck to everyone entering the contest! OwO

    34. I have the same question as vtheyoshi; is it okay if we put a bunk of the text ON the image? I did so (already submitted it), but in hindsight I probably should've asked first.

    35. I have another question ;-; does the three views have to be on the same image ? And the description can be on the image or "apart" ( PM ). Because if the three views must be on the same image ( max. size ? ) there won't be much room to write explaination and fabric choice .-. well if the max size is A4/Letter.

If we submit a few outfits; I have ideas for three right now, do we send all in the same PM ?

      Thank you in advance.

    36. I have a problem, my scaner makes my DinA4 pics with good quality but extremely big. There are any problem with dimensions?

    37. Sorry, I hate to ask but you said we can draw by hand and color by computer. Can we draw and color by computer or is that not allowed?

    38. Quick questions, Can enter sets? Like an outfit for an boy and an outfit for a girl?
And dose shoes count as part of an outfit?

    39. You know, if you upload to Photobucket you can resize there if you dont have your own image editing software. I am sure other photo sharing sites can do the same, like Flickr.

    40. Ok one question from me (not sure if its been asked yet):

Question: Can the outfit drawing be just be of the outfit itself (like on a mannequin, with no head, hands, feet) or would you prefer it to be a full drawing, doll and all?

      Just wondering. Thanks
      Idelle

    41. Yes, you may show just the outfit itself, without a full drawing of a doll.

    42. I have a few questions.

Is it okay to design an outfit that is completely white? We won't be able to color it or anything since it's that color, but is it alright if we just shade in parts that needs to be shaded, to give it some effect so that it won't be so bland?

Also, the DoA staff will be picking the top five outfits of each category that they like. They won't be judging on how well the design is drawn and so on, yes? Even if one part of the outfit is absolutely gorgeous and the other part you can't even make out?

Would you like us to label the front, back, and sideview on the entry picture itself, or would you rather that we put the descriptions seperately from our entries? I'm sorry if this question has been asked before. I would like to confirm it, just to be safe ^^

    43. I am not sure if anyone asked this already, but if it is clear what the side looks like from the front & back views of the entry, do we have to include a side view drawn out? With the designs I am planning to enter it seems like that wouldn't be necessary, but I will of coarse include it if it disqualifies the entry to be without it. Does that make any sense? lol

    44. Well, they said on the first page that we have to include front, back and side view. :sweat

After, sorry again, I re-ask my questions ( well some others people wished to know the same) because I will work more on this so no envy to be out because I did it wrong then :

      - Do we send all submission in only one PM ?
      - Do we put all three views (same outfit design) on the same image or can we use an image for each views (same design) ? Where do we put the explaination part ( fabric type) on the image ? In the PM ?
      - Max size of image allowed.

      Thank you very much :chocoberry

    45. Right. Which is why I am asking if the illustration of front & back already shows the side of the outfit clearly, would it be excused or would it have to be added even if it served no purpose in explaining the design.
I can certainly draw it out for the submissions I am giving, but it wouldn't illustrate the design any better. I guess that is what I am getting at. ;)

    46. Don't pay attention to me lol I was in a hurry when I wrote that and after I was just : damn it makes no sense what you said :doh

I don't think it add more to the design either but yeah :sweat though except for an outfit I would like to submit but except that no *_*

    47. Just a quick question again (so sorry!) But I get paranoid.

We won't receive a reply when we send in the entry, correct? I know I PMed it to the right account, I just get paranoid I might have missed something and I don't want to be disqualified for such a small technical error.

    48. Buboplague
I sent my entry for the sock contest yesterday night and it's the same I have no "reply" so I'm a bit scared my PM get lost but I don't think we will have, it would be surely too long to reply to each of us for our entries, we just have to cross fingers I guess T-T

But Buboplague maybe you could help me ? .-.

I copy paste my previous questions, maybe you could help me with your own "experience" ?

      - Do we send all submission in only one PM if many design ?
      - Do we put all three views (same outfit design) on the same image or can we use an image for each views (same design) ? Where do we put the explaination part ( fabric type) on the image ? In the PM ?
      - Max size of image allowed.

the questions i seek for reply since around a week now and make me very stressful without replies .-.

I'm so sorry to have a such sass to ask you this but having no reply after asking two time stress me a lot.

I don't blame mod. they are busy ! But maybe someone can help me instead ?! Please .-.

    49. My English is not good so sorry if it is not understandable. If you send a pm you can ask for a read conform. So if they do not reply you can see if they readed them. It is the top box to check under the massage.

    50. This is fine.

The designs will be judged on the design itself rather than how well it's drawn. You would of course want to do your best on the drawing to make sure that you are representing your design accurately, but beyond that it's not exceptionally important.

I don't think it really matters.

DoP asked that there be front, back and side, so I think that's what they're looking for even if it is not completely necessary.

You can do one or many, it doesn't really matter.

DoP didn't give us specific instructions on this, so I would say that either would be fine.

None specified, but please keep it reasonable. :)

Entry PMs will not receive replies.

    51. Thank you so much Armeleia !! I can be easily anxious so I feel better now I know. *hides*

I think I will do separate views, 3 images per design and make them A4/letter size, it should be correct ?! Or smaller, will see how it looks. Like this I can type easily fabric choice and all onto the pic ^o^

Plus like this I can do only one PM and not confuse the one that will receive the PM >.<

    52. Thanks Armeleia. I'll add in the side view. :)

    53. A question please, you mention that we are allowed to post our designs on DevArt, but is that allowed only after the contest is over (after August 31st) or it's okay to post them on DA even now?

    54. Seiorai
I don't know if it will help you but I asked the same question for the face up contest if right and I have to wait after the voting to post my pics so I guess it would be the same here .-. but if a mod can confirm ? .o.

*goes back to work on her last design T-T* If I didn't stop myself I could flood with dozens of design @o@

    55. Ayusan

Yes, that's what I supposed as well, seems normal xD
      Thanks ^^
And good luck with your design ^__^

    56. You're welcome !

      Good luck as well :pcake
I don't thank you because here, in my country it is a jinx to reply XD but I think it ^o^

    57. Hahaha, it's as good as any typing -hugs- x3

    58. Hi! Since the last day is tomorrow and I have a few I'm finishing to send in I just wanted to know what time of you're accepting them until, and in which time zone! :sweat

      Thanks! :smallcake

    59. I have finished of sent them right now @-@ I thought today was 5th of august >-<
And I did a mistake sending 3rd pic's information withouth the pic xD then I sent a 4th pm with it.
Sorry for disturb a lot >-<.

    60. I sent my last design that afternoon ( it's evening for me here now lol ) ... I don't want to hear the word "contest" until the end of year now XD I did apply to three of that 5 th anniversary event x_x and one on DA not BJD related XD

Now I just hope my stupid mind won't bring me on the pc for a final quick design I would had create in my sleep and giving me the urge to draw it XD
