Dolls from Angell Studio? Good or bad?

Oct 17, 2007

    1. You still have about two weeks left until you can view the marketplace, so unless you are expecting your dollie in two weeks or less, you will be fine.

There are a LOT of really good artists on here, it'll be fun choosing who you want to do your face-up and blush!

    2. Oh no, My doll will get here in maybe more then a year XD

      I got the time..... XP

But If I dissapear too long I'll forget to come back XD

And 2 weeks is long whe nI have nothing to really do XP

I'd love to start doing clothes.... but without a model it is kinda hard XD

    3. SakuraLee and Fluff-Chan::owoah! That's way pink!! It's not the way done on Mayou. Here is some restringing-pictures. I just add the link cause of *nudity*:
      http://www.pic-upload.de/view-999050/restring.JPG.html
As you can see her face is the most blushed part of her. The blushing itself is much lighter and slightly different in color.

      Laoky

    4. You could always start with an MSD instead!

    5. But I like Lucifer !!!

He is the best I found :D

And SD or MSD, I'd still have to wait XP

    6. I bought Kana off the marketplace liek that XD So it couldn't be helped. Insane blushing but nice in its own way and now all gone, lol.

Keep going Chibi_Fluffy!!! ^^ Keep saving cuz Lucifer is worth it. ;)
I have many an array of sizes of BJDs (as you can see in my sig lol) and I would from personal experience, go for an SD first. Thats highly reccommended from me ;)
      You might wanna include shipping costs for your Lucifer your saving up for (unless you plan on ordering from denverdoll or have included the costs already) because it can be very very pricey when directly from AS and can be quite a shock. ^^;

And also I think someone is selling Cain on the marketplace for a good price... I haven't been on for ages to stop myself from buying another BJD but the last time I looked there was one there. ^^

    7. I do not really know how much the shipping will be... but I will at least get 600 before ordering.

I only wrote the highest the doll could cost XP If I took blushing, face up ect....

I still have the time to change mind XP

I really do not know if I will order from Denver... is there a difference??

    8. Well, the shipping will probably be way way way cheaper for you if you buy it from Denver. ^^

    9. But they need to have the doll for it to cost less...
If they do not have it in stock would it not cost the same or even more??

    10. They take 'special orders' which means that they can order the doll FOR you.

If I were you, I would e-mail them and ask them how much it would be. I'm PRETTY sure it would be cheaper (shipping wise) for you to order it from Denver Doll.

    11. Well they are in the Us I think....

Which is a little closer then wherever AS is XD

    12. Yeah, in Colorado(which I think is in America lol)
And I think that AS is in Korea.

    13. Colorado... Must be there XP

I'm in canada so shiping from the USA is never really higher then 30 XD
      I think O___o

    14. AS is chinese ^^

      Laoky

    15. Shipping would probably be arund $90 for an SD size from AS. (And like Laoky said its in China ^^; )
So compared to approximately $30 as a guess... It speaks for itself xD Also the checkout is a bit dodgy on AS right now T.T

    16. I've been looking at Cain and I was wondering how I would go about requesting him in urethane resin. Would I just leave a message on my order asking for him to be in urethane?

How about if I order him via Denver Doll? Just ask them?

    17. You can't do that, their dolls are only being made in French Resin.

    18. Really? Someone posted earlier in the thread that they had gotten their doll in urethane. But, that was around this time last year so I guess the company isn't offering that anymore?

What is the quality of their French Resin then? I read somewhere that French Resin yellows very easily in a short amount of time but I would not know the accuracy of that statement.

    19. There was one time when they did do that, but that ship has long since passed, that was when their prices were different, and there were a bit of internal problems.
The dolls might be French resin but they do blend their resin to have UV protection and they do offer to coat your doll with UV protected MSC. You can always read about what Angell-Studio said about their resin.
link to message concerning french resin

    20. I see! Thank you very much for answering my questions. =]

    21. I have made special orders with Denver Doll and I was never charged extra because they had to order it for me. I have never heard of any agent that did that. I would recommend ordering from them because they have great customer service and I always get prompt responses from them during business hours.

    22. OK :D

      Thank you :3

    23. Absolutely 10/10.Repsonses within 24 hours, they're a really nice bunch and you don't have to use Paypal if you're not comfortable using it.:)

By the way, anyone know the waiting time from AS?Denverdoll ordered her for me and they said it takes about 6 to 8 weeks.
So far I've waited 6 and I just want to know roughtly how much longer to go.
What's your experience with a Gus girl also?
      Thanks
      Soulofthedoll

    24. How is the quality? A - B+

Did the dolls look like the ones in the photos? Um let me see. My boy looks different in person yet the same. However the photos were on a tan doll, mine being white. I think my boy's faceup was making him not look like the photos, the eyebrows are way too thin and the lips too light. He will be getting a new faceup here soon.

How is the posability of the doll? Love his arms and hands and especially his legs and feet, lol. He poses like a dream really without too much effort! The waist joints are a bit stiff and at times, but it might be the fact he's strung way.too.tight. ^^; Overall very nice and his body moves smoothly into position. Not kicky, and sturdy when stood up or put into poses. One thing I might add that needs work is the faceplates. Boy's head went flying at the smallest tap trying to reposition his head. I would like to see stronger magnets or they stop doing the faceplates.

What kind of skintone do the dolls have? Many kinds! white to butter to tan, etc. I went with white which is a nice cream white. A little darker than say Luts or Soom, so he's not bone white, but I really love his white color! Its very nice!

Good for the price? I'm actually rather surprised by the quality of the resin and everything overall. The clothes are very well made, the wig as well. Only thing is the boots smell sorta funny >.o but I'll live. I've had lesser quality resin in my possession before, and their resin is nothing like that. Up there with my other dolls in terms of quality. I think for the price its pretty good. Especially since I ordered a 70cm boy, lol.

      How was the customer service?
Great, they got back to me on any questions I had. No problems whatsoever speaking english.

How was the packaging? Did they send it with a carrier bag?
Super extra perfect! My doll was securely wrapped in bubblewrap plus a sleeping bag like pillow which I totally adore. Then placed in a shipping box. I felt he came to be extra securely. A+ in shipping. I also recieved a lot of extras, and Angell Studio is a lifesaver! They included several facemasks, some string and a wire to restring my dolls which helped me restring a few dolls I had lying around. Also a full package of eye putty and some other assorted freebies.

      Is the store reliable?
      Yes, however all those fees and shipping costs are confusing. They need to write it out directly what the cost of fees are going to be before you place an order so you don't get surprised when buying. ^^;

      How is the resin smell?
I chose no smell, and the resin smell was great, no overwhelming bad smell at all. The shoes do smell though.

Anything else you can think of, please let me know!
I'm a total fan of Angell Studios after recieving my doll! :)

    25. Here's my question: are they AS dolls made with french resin? I like the look of the bodies, but I'm not too sure about french resin.

    26. Yes they are made of french resin and I think its lovely. ^^

    27. I agree! I LOVE the French resin on my Gus girl! It's SO smooth and nice.

    28. I am new to the resin thing so I cannot say much...

I will see my first dolls tomorrow at a meet-up >w<

I'll ask if anyone as a AS doll or French Resin :D

    29. Trails,
I have an AS Senior Vera and a B&G Sharon. I really like the feel of the AS resin, it's really smooth, like they say "just like jade." I think it's really sturdy, I've never worried about it breaking.

When I put the two of them together my Vera looks kind of translucent. The french resin isn't shiny at all, whereas you can see some shine on the boy's body.

I personally haven't had any issues with yellowing or staining, but I do have the UV coating on her. The only instance of slight staining was from the eye putty, but it doesn't show through and with some cleaning, came right up.

    30. My only worry is I keep hearing it starts yellowing pretty early. And you're right, it kinda makes them look translucent xD I'm trying to look for a body to match a head I want.

    31. I think their 1/4 dolls are French resin, but 1/3 dolls are Japanese resin. Or at least, so it was some time ago. Maybe you could ask them if you can choose what kind of resin you want for your doll?

    32. I think someone said earlier that you could not XP

And that they mixed the resin or something like that so it does not start to yellow like other french resin... and the uv whatever coat helps a lot :D

In the end I did not get to the meet-up so I could not ask if anyone had AS dolls XP

    33. So, now the second time comes to post here after Awa (VAN) was freed. ^^

How is the quality? Very nice, he's heavy with very nice details :wiggle. So are the clothes, wigs and eyes.

Did the dolls look like the ones in the photos? Definitly! ^^ Right out of the box still with no eyes, hair or clothes.

How is the posability of the doll? I have no problems posing him into every positione I like to. He's not too loose or too tight and keeps every position. ^^

What kind of skintone do the dolls have? White skin with blushing. There is a big difference visable compared to their pink skin but it's not like chalk or paper, it's still a skintone. The blushing is a little more brownish-pink (compared to Mayou).

How was the customer service? Great like always. ^^

How was the packaging? Did they send it with a carrier bag? Very good again with bubble-wrapping, caps, bag over the body and this wonderful AS pillow-bag.

Is the store reliable? Yes in my opinion.

How is the resin smell? It's vanilla scent again because I love the smell on Mayou and wanted it for Awa, too. It's great. :D

Anything else you can think of, please let me know! I got a restringing tool again and two pens. ^^ I read of face-plate problems but there is none for me. The magnets work really well and you really have to pull strong before it moves (I really feared he would lose his face in front of me;)).

      Laoky

    34. How is the quality? Beautiful <3

Did the dolls look like the ones in the photos? Yes <3 He looks a little peculiar without the faceup, but the mould and body are virtually identical looking <3

How is the posability of the doll? EXCELLENT. He stands really well, and the double-jointed body is really great <3

What kind of skintone do the dolls have? My boy is tan, and I haven't got another tan doll to compare it to, but his skin tome is only a very slight bit darker than my own. It's definitely a 'tan' colour rather than a darker brown. Perfect for my Arabic prince ;)

How was the customer service? Very good <3

How was the packaging? The packaging was the only thing I could fault them on... He was sent in a kind of sleeping bag thing the same as my Vera, but other than that there was very little in the way of protection. I have contacted their English rep to mention the utter lack of bubble wrap and she's assured me she's passed it on to the Packing office <3 The only other problem I had with the packaging was that the faceplate magnets aren't strong enough to withstand the shipping process and slipped off. This has badly scratched his body blushing and neck, so I'll have to have him re-blushed and re-sealed which is really annoying >_< Again, I've mentioned this to Hedi.

Did they send it with a carrier bag? Yep! He came with a lovely sleeping bag carrier the same kind as my Vera <3

Is the store reliable? In my experience, yes. I've never had any problems with them, apart from them forgetting to include my Vera's outfit with her but they shipped that once I mentioned it at no extra cost to me. Other than that they've been brilliant!

How is the resin smell? I can't smell anything peculiar, but I'm not sure how resin's meant to smell :sweat

    35. Hey, first post here(:

From what I've read so far Angell Studio seems to be reliable, right? I'm contemplating getting a Hua Xi as my first doll, but so far I haven't seen any owner pictures of Hua Xi or his gay partner friend, Yan Di. I might've missed it by accident though. But um, I just wanted to ask, does anyone know if they look as similar as the official photos as the other dolls?

    36. Got my 1st Vera on 29-10-2008.. :D

      How is the quality?
As she's my 1st bjd n im still quite new to dollfie, i cant really compare to other dolls.. but her resin feels quite smooth to mi.. very beautiful~

Did the dolls look like the ones in the photos?
I ordered her w/o face up.. so she doesnt really look like the 1 in the company profile.. but i compared her head with the one in the internet.. yep~ it looks like her alright XD

How is the posability of the doll?
She can stand with no problems at all! tried a few poses was looks quite ok to mi oso~

What kind of skintone do the dolls have? (really pinkish, normal fleshy skintone... comparisons with other companies?)
I ordered Milk Pink for my vera.. considered normal fleshy skintone..

      How was the customer service?
i give it 10/10. The person who attend to mi was hedi and she really replies to ALL the questions I've asked her. and those replies were received from less than 24 hrs.. Knowing that i'm getting vera for my birthday present, hedi specially included a birthday card for mi.. so sweet of her :aheartbea

How was the packaging? Did they send it with a carrier bag?
the packaging was ok i think.. yep~ a white carrier bag with their logo embroided.

      Is the store reliable?
      i can say very reliable!

      How is the resin smell?
i ordered her with elegant lily scent.. but somehow i cant smell other than the resin smell she had on her..

    37. Both are relatively new sculpts. They were released in the past month or so, I think. There may not be any that have made their way into owners' hands yet. Keep an eye out, hopefully we'll see some soon. I've got m eye on Yan Di as my possibly next purchase, so I'm looking forward to seeing owner pics too.

    38. Has anyone got a Butter or Jacinthe skintone?

    39. Well... I had a rather different experience with Angell Studio when I ordered my Lilith-SP from them. You can read my feedback post here:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3480731&postcount=4

Fortunately, after 4 months I finally got my money back.

I've read many people have troubles with Angell Studio from Hong Kong/Taiwan/China forums... which is a pity. :-/

The skin tone of my Lilith-SP is butter. She arrived in early June 2008. Here are some photos of her. These photos were taken at around lunch time, with sufficient sunlight in my room. These photos haven't been edited at all. :)

      I hope this helps! :)

    40. WOW!! I thought Butter was more..... butter XD

Someone should really make a comparison of the 4 colors you can get from AS...

Now I do not know which one I want XP

    41. This was taken from the Denver Doll Emporium. Maybe it will help?

    42. But it is not the same thing when you see it on a doll XP

The more I think about it... the more I want a butter one XD
      Or maybe more jacinthe XP

I never saw anywahere a jacinthe colored doll... someone own one?

    43. Chibi_Fluffy:

      Here you go:
      http://album.blog.yam.com/show.php?a=sakurafubuki&f=4715493&i=3201129&p=150

... As you can see, the colour is rather "orange". I took this photo at Angell Studio's booth during the Hong Kong Dollism Plus 3. I'm sorry that the page itself is in Chinese.

By the way, just in case if anyone is interested, here's a photo of the tanned skin:

      I hope this helps. :)

    44. O__________o That is.... orange XD

I think I will stay with pink then....

Wow.... Well... Now I know AS uses really pur colors XD
      No in-between XD

    45. Thanks sakurafubuki and AerynAerie

    46. Edit: For some reason i cant post a reply...but i have my boy now so i guess ill just put my review in this old post -shrugs-
      --------------------------
To start, i Bought an Angell-Studio 71.5cm boy, Yan Di <3 *needs to update her signature (lol)*

      How is the quality?
Hes my first BJD so i woulnt know if there were problems or not, BUT from what i can tell hes absolutely perfect as far as quality goes~

Did the dolls look like the ones in the photos?
Not exactly like the photos (as the companies mention) But you can tell hes the same doll.

How is the posability of the doll?
Very good, hes strung tightly and hes still a bit kicky. The only problem im having is his left shoulder, it doesnt want to stay up XD; but after a few times of trying it stays.

What kind of skintone do the dolls have? (really pinkish, normal fleshy skintone... comparisons with other companies?)
I chose butter, and he has a very normal fleshy-looking skintone. His body-blushing is quite pink though, its cute >w< i cant compare with other companies since hes my first doll.

      How was the customer service?
Absolutely wonderful~! :D Heidi the english translator is incredibley nice and she answered all my emails within a 24 hours~ Which was great considering i ordered him via E-mail since the AS site was down at the time.

How was the packaging? Did they send it with a carrier bag?
The packaging was very good, and yes he came with a carrier bag. The only small problem i had was the plastic box his wig came in was a bit...squished? I was guessing it was from his encounter with the JFK Airport team (i guess they checked inside his box im not sure..) His arms and legs were bubble-wraped, but the rest of his body was left bare, though he was strapped inside the pillow/carrier bag. He has a face-protector on as well ^^

      Is the store reliable?
      Most definately! :D

      How is the resin smell?
Um...good? XD; i ordered him with the "Elegant Lily" smell and he smells..well...elegant! XDD; hes smells nice, i actually just lean over and sniff him once and a while XD lol

When you order, it asks you to pick an option from a drop down box called "Shipping Area". What do the two letter abbreviatons (the options) mean? It's really confusing...
      Um...i dont know anything about that since i ordered through E-mail...Sorry! ^^;

    47. I say go for it girl!!!

Since I have been here I have not seen one bad review about AS :D

And I think those little bads would arrive in any company XP

    48. With what I've experienced, all I can say is "Good Luck"!

Unfortunately I'm one of those who's had problems, please refer to my earlier posts. I'm not the only one who has problems. *_* I've heard people receiving a BLACK doll (the entire doll was covered with black stain). So I believe it's more than just "little bads".

One thing that I forgot to mention in my earlier post is that, I noticed that my girl has a hole on her finger! :...( I think it's called an "air bubble". I told AS about it of course but they didn't do anything about it. Here's the photo, note the little finger:

    49. O______o

Wow...... I mustve jumped your post then.... I read most of the reviews and most of the bad ones where in the begginning of AS when it was still pretty new XP

    50. I've decided to get an AS doll through Denver Doll. Though at the moment the communication with AS has been great, they've answered a lot of questions and been really helpful. What I really don't like is that they charge paypal fees. I like DD's layaway program. Makes an expensive doll easier to afford and they do all the leg work for you.

    51. Really :D

      So cool =w=

I think I will go with them then XD

I knew I could buy from DD... but I was not sure if it was rteally better XP

    52. I bought a Lucifer from Denver Doll after comparing the prices. If you live in the States, it's about $90 to ship from Hong Kong, plus the paypal fees (4% of the cost of the doll/item). From DD it was only $18 for ground mail, without any fees. Since the prices for the doll are identical, it only makes sense to buy from DD. You have to wait a little longer, but they ship it to you as soon as they get it, so it'll only be a couple extra days. Also, they can special order anything you want, even the default costume. They communicated with me really well, and it was so easy. I highly recommend DD because it is less expensive and the service is fantastic.
From what I could tell though, most bad reviews of AS were much earlier. Within the last year, I didn't notice any poor reviews. Also, AS has a Christmas free head (but with the extra shipping fees, you can't really call it free...) that DD can't offer. If you are not in love with the head, I would recommend DD. If you want to pay extra for the head (shipping and fees, about $120 if you're ordering a doll) then AS would be the way to go. If you want to save about $120, order from DD. ^_^ That is my experience.

    53. Well then DD it is :D

I am currently thinking of buying just a head too... to start XP
I want to practise face-up and stuff before getting my "real" doll... so I think it will be better to get it from them :D

    54. I just want to poke my head in to thank Angell Studio's English-language service rep for rescuing me yesterday.

What a flake I was... I was debating whether to use my Christmas present Doll Fund Money on a tan Gavin or not. How often am I complaining "reading skills required" when people fail to just RTFM, so to speak. Was walking through the steps, trying to figure out how to add options and so forth, and was ... not being successful. (NOW, of course, I know what I did wrong, but.)

Clicked the "next" button and what to my wondering eye did appear but an Order Number! O_O And... I really had pretty much decided that I'd better finish paying off the doll I had on layaway and take care of Christmas bills before sinking that much into another doll.

I fired off a completely panicked email to the service rep. Who very graciously told me not to worry, shipping was less than it showed because of a glitch in their system, and cancelled the order for me.

      Whew.

So. A happy customer service review!
