Dollmore Sending "Sample" Products to Customers?

Feb 19, 2009

    1. I posted this question in another place, but I think it kind of got lost in the thread, and since I'm really curious about it, I thought I would just turn it into its own thread.

Has anyone ever gotten a package from a company when they hadn't ordered anything at all???

A friend of mine recently received an SD dollmore doll with a "free gift" shirt, extra eyes and an extra wig that she never ordered! It was sent to her in her name and her address and everything. She then checked her Dollmore account to see if it was in her name and alas it wasn't. She also checked her bank account and there were no charges made to it.

What was strange about the package was on the form on the outside "sample" was checked off as well as "gift" and it also said on the box "doll outfit" "$20 Value." Now anyone who packed this giant doll box must have known that there was a lot more than a 20 dollar doll outfit in there.

That doesn't really seem like a mistake. My friend, recently had a few mixups with Dollmore in the past and was wondering if they had possibly done this to make ammends or something. Obviously sending out a 560 dollar doll is a bit extreme, but she has no idea. She was wondering if anyone had heard of Dollmore sending out "sample" products to customers?

This doll also had a few defects that might have prevented them from sending it out to a paying customer, so she thought maybe that is how they got rid of their dolls that are still in great condition, but maybe not necessarily up to selling standards. The doll is in wonderful condition, but he has red stains on the back of his head and headcap, and the magnets in his headcap fall out. Also the "free gift" shirt that came with him had only 2 functioning buttons, all the others were all broken.

Has anyone ever heard of this before, Dollmore sending out "sample" products to their customers???

    2. Wow. That's the first I've heard of it. She may want to get in touch with dollmore and outright make sure it was intended. If anything get ahold of them to say thank you.

    3. There have been cases of mixed up packages. Your friend should try contacting Dollmore and telling them that she received a doll in error, and that it is damaged.

As for the shirt, eyes, and wig, Dollmore includes free stuff all the time, especially if you order over a certain amount. This doll may have been ordered in a promotion period where an order over xxx amount yielded xxx freebie.

As well, I believe Dollmore (along with many other companies) often mark down the value of their packages and mark items as "samples" and "gifts" so the customer can avoid customs fees.

To answer your question, though, no, I've never heard of Dollmore sending out a sample product, and I doubt they would, especially without warning. Good luck!

    4. Mmmmm....has your friend emailed Dollmore and inquired about this package?

    5. Yeah she said she emailed them yesterday to ask them about it but they haven't responded yet. They can take a while sometimes...

    6. Thank you for answering. This is certainly a mistake of some kind, please keep us updated as to their response!

    7. Dollmore definitely has a track record of sending orders to the wrong customer! It's happened to me twice in the past six months; both times, my order went to someone else in a different state, with a different zip code and street address (not to mention a totally different name, of course!). It took several attempts (both e-mailing and posting on Dollmore's message board) to get Jee to understand what the problem was in each case, but both situations did get fixed eventually.

I always wondered whether the people who received my orders kept them without saying anything, or contacted Dollmore to find out what was going on. :?

    8. It's "normal" for dollmore to mark down boxes with "doll outfit $20". They did that for three large orders I made in December. It's also not uncommon for Dollmore to include little extras like eyes or an outfit as a gift with your order.

However, I don't think it's normal for Dollmore to just send people stuff out of the blue. Like suggested before, I think your friend received someone else's order. Your friend should contact Dollmore through email or the Q&A board to have it set right.

    9. I believe it might been gifts due to their "Birthday" event takein place.

    10. This IS a mistake. The thought that a company would send six hundred dollars worth of product to someone as a gift is really ... extreme. Let's hope that Dollmore responds and that this friend is able to return the package.

    11. Well, theres finally an answer to what exactly happened in the case of the mystery doll. A little more anticlimactic than I thought, but at least there's an answer now. Dollmore didn't make the mistake. It turns out my friend's aunt who is also a bjd collector bought my friend the doll for a birthday present. My friend never considered it as being a present since her birthday was a couple months ago, but dolls take time I guess, and I dont know when her aunt actually ordered it :?

My friend's mom also had no idea that her sister had bought such a gift, the aunt actually didn't tell her on purpose because she knew the mom wouldn't approve of such an expensive gift (she thinks the dolls are a waste of money).

So I guess the conclusion is no, Dollmore doesn't send out random gifts of defective dolls or merchandise lol. But at least its a happy conclusion in which this time it wasn't a mistake after all (she really liked the doll).

    12. lol That's a really cute ending. I'm glad it all got cleared up.
