[Adopted] Dollmore Lusion Discussion Part II

Jan 21, 2011

    1. As idrisfynn suggested, here is our new thread to chat about our Lusions.

    2. Yay! New thread to stalk! xD

    3. My girl arrived :) But as soon as I looked at her I knew she was "Bella". So her full name is " Belladonna Lily " and Bella for short.

I love her size but O my is she HEAVY. I just can't stop looking at her. She is sitting on my dinning room chair getting to know her pet Kiwi. She is absolutly AMAZING! and so lifelike. Can't get her to stand yet so will have to work on that and I think I will have to look for a special big weighted stand. Her own chair has been painted and just waiting for me to seal it.

      Off to shop now.

    4. Yay!.....thanks Mich for starting thread #2 :fangirl:

@ Kiwiana.....Congrats on Bella's arrival....They are BIG and HEAVY :D You are going to have so much fun with her.........

Here's Roisin (and her faithful dog Zoe) just to add a piccie to this new thread....

      Cheers!
      xen :)

    5. What a lovely way to start the new thread Xen.
Bella is a lovely name Kiwiana.

    6. If I can get the whole week off starting on 1st of Feb for the Lunar New Year, I hope to be able to do her faceuo then. :D And I'm glad I didn't get rid of the wooden chair I originally bought for my SDs, scalewise it was way too big for them, but it fits my Lusion perfectly, like it was made for her. And I think the name Patience fits her, I looked at alot of other names, but I keep going back to Patience, I don't think she's anything but patient however. XD

And I love your Roisin's look, Xen. I have a thing for antique/old-fashioned stuff as well and she appeals to be so.

    7. Patience is a great name, Humbug. Hope that you're enjoying your new girl!

    8. Ooh, guess I need to be here too, just took some pictures today of Stella Noel. Uploading now...

    9. i love the look! I'm hoping to get one this year,
but having to pat that kind of money in 3 months
      is going to be tough.

    10. I love having Patience around and I can't wait to get her to look how I want. I'm currently waiting on her new wig to arrive and hopefully I'll have time to do her faceup the week after. I need to practice painting freckles first tho. @_@

I like how the horse is just the right scale for Noel, Stella. I like the idea of getting a rocking horse or something similar, but I don't have anymore room right now. XD

    11. Awww, Stella Noel looks wonderful on her pony....what a beautiful pony that is......these big dollies are so much fun!:fangirl:
I love dressing Roisin....I just took more piccies of her!!!....I just can't stop!!! ;)

Can't wait to see your gal Humbug :fangirl:

ETA.....Roisin in her little pink car.....and I dressed her in a vintage doll dress (I think it's from the 50's) and a pair of antique shoes....

      And here's some more ......

      Cheers!
      xen :)

    12. You always have great finds Xen.
Stella what a lovely pony, and photo...Funnily enough I have a rocking horse, but have never taken a pic of Natalie~Rose on it...

    13. Absolutely gorgeous dolls, ive never seen them before! Roisin has beautiful curls.

    14. xen, wow that is a great car!!!!!!!!
Thanks everyone for loving my pony, it is from my childhood. Now a days you can still buy one like it I think from FAO Schwartz, but at a price that makes our dolls seem like bargains.
humbug, I have done many freckles, there is nothing like an airbrush for that kind of work. There is a actually a picture request thread for freckles.

    15. I don't have an airbrush unfortunately, so i have to figure out other methods for freckles, either stippling or toothbrush or something. :3

    16. My Anne (1:3) has freckles that look good, and I had a Lati White that had freckles too. They were done without airbrushing. Anne's look like they're brushed, with a little stippled white dot inside. I'll see if I have a really good picture (right now my camera is cell-phone quality only).

      Amalia

    17. Yes, practice with a tootbrush, also other stiff brushes will help.

    18. ..........Thanks Mich, Stella Maris, tlana :fangirl:

I painted freckles on Roisin...I did them one by one....using a watercolor pencil, then I blushed over the top.....I think Roisin is due for a new face-up soon as she has faceplanted many times in the dirt with this one....and I can only clean it so many times *_* Her nose still has mud on it...lols....

Here's her freckles....not very clear....but.... and you can see her lip mods too....very pouty miss ;)

      Cheers!
      xen :)

    19. Thanks all for the congrates on Bella's arrival. I have been having so much fun with her. I managed to get het to stand and pose a bit. But I kept in arms reach just incase.
xen your pics are absolutly amazing. I have looked at a lot of your pics and you have a beautiful collection of dolls etc and a beautiful house.
Stella Maris What a great pic. Love your horse. All my dolly's have horses expect Bella. But maybe I will work on that.
Humbug Can't wait to see a pic of Patience.
jenthered You were so right. I love my Nostalgic girl.

    20. Yay....Kiwiana.....can't wait to see Bella.....getting these big dollies to stand is nerve wracking....Roisin has fallen over I don't know how many times....each time my heart just jumps!!! they are very tough, she has not broken anything yet!!!

Here is Roisin after a faceplant in the garden......lol....:o

In the piccie Roisin is wearing a French Mohair wig....and 24mm Eyeco eyes.....

      Cheers!
      xen :)

    21. Poor Roisin, but she's still lovely. And thanks for telling me how you did your freckles, I'm going to have to experiment. :)

    22. Great shot of a poor little girl falling flat on her face in a garden... at least no bruises.

    23. Oh, I have been wanting a pont like that! LOVE IT!! Here is my freckle contribution. The faceup artist did them by hand one by one. It took awhile, but I think it is worth it! :)

    24. Maybe she needs a nose warmer for protection, LOL...just some padding. You don't want the poor love to break her lovely nose, do you? I'm getting ready to wire my girls-I'll let you know what it does, re standing. Tying them to a stand that has the business end firmly wedged and putting a brick or another weight on them to counterbalance does well. It's not pretty, but it works. You also have to make sure that her feet are underneath her all the way.

Looks a great deal better than we if we fell over, right? These two are so gorgeous!

She is just the prettiest thing, Zaidalin...I love her faceup and that wig is gorgeous on her. Of course, being a redhead myself, I'm partial, but it's perfect with this faceup.

    25. Thank you - I know I am in love, but I am a bit partial. LOL

    26. God how I want a Dahlia:aheartbea I love the doll so much, but I do not dare to order her before the new Lusion doll get released. Who knows, I might like the new one much better. And I can only have one doll that big. If I order a Dahlia now I might regret it later when they release the new Lusion Doll. I seriously do not want to wait but have little choice:|. They are quite big so it is not just a doll you can order without really thinking it through. In my case I have thought about it since the very first Dahlia came. Looking at all your lovely Dahlias makes the wait so hard.

    27. I am in a similar predicament with a cast horse I want. There is the possibility that a better one will be made, but not for another year. I am just not that patient! LOL

Seriously though, I had to sell half my collection to get my Dahlia and do not plan to do that again (it was rough). I could if I really had to I guess. I find it interesting that when I first started collecting, a $200 doll was expensive, and now I would not be shocked to see a second $1000 plus doll on my shelf. The problem with the size is where to put them so that my pets cannot get to them... :(

Speaking of collections, do you guys insure your dolls? Especially getting into the Dahlia price range I wonder if I should...

    28. I thought of insuring my dolls, but I currently can't afford it. Maybe somewhere down the line I will.

    29. Gee, you think? I am too, so you've got company. I brought them to my doll club for a program on BJDs that I did-with three carryon bags, one large trunk, one large suitcase and three huge LL Bean bags-anyway, folks absolutely loved them! So, I love yours, I love mine, I love'em all!

I insure my antique dolls, and it's very expensive, as they are covered by a company that specializes in dolls and other collectibles. Dolls under five thousand dollars apiece are insured by collections, so you'd have to insure the entire collection, not just the Dahlas. They would not be covered. You might be able to add them to your homeowner's though, on a rider.

    30. Fortunately I didn't have to sell the rest of my dolls, (they are very precious to me) but it did take a year of saving a small cut of my salary to pay for Patience, I don't know if I'll ever buy another doll that costs just as much again, my most expensive doll before her was only half her price. X3

    31. It doesn't matter what you pay for dolls, but how much you love them and how much pleasure they bring you. Good for you for saving up for her-takes guts to do that!

    32. Humbug - Insurance! Good idea.. I hadn't thought of that but it would be a good idea even if just an add-on to homeowners policy.

Okay... so I would love some opinions on my new girls emerging look. Please! She's had three different face-ups in as many days and I can't seem to get it right.

In all honesty I'm having a terrible time adjusting to Dahlia. Not because of her size but little things like her head seems a bit too small for her body... and her body too thin for her limbs (this one I knew when I ordered her though)... and I've found that her head is quite asymmetrical (although that's true about humans too).

So here's what I have this time. It's not a completed faceup - lips need finishing especially - but I'm not sure I'm going in the right direction, I'd really appreciate some outside opinions :0) She's waiting for new eyes. The one's she's wearing were shipped with her. What do you think?

    33. I love her wig. Which one is it? Not sure about the red eyes, but I don't normally like red or pink for eyes. Some big brown ones would look nice. I think she looks like a french maiden. Very cute!

    34. Thanks Zaidalin ~ I don't like the eyes either and that may be what's throwing me off with this face-up... I've ordered her some new eyes so maybe I'll wait until they arrive to finish her. Dollmore sent me two sets of eyes and both are horrible bright colors.

I remember that the wig style is "Daisy" but I'll have to check on the maker - can't remember at this moment! The wig is a little more auburn than it appears here. ot entirely sure about it either... she seems more like a carrot-top girl!

    35. It might just be the second photo, but it looks to me as though her neck is too white for her face, in a way. Blushing a bit down the neck might help. Otherwise I think the all-over freckles and the eyebrows suit her look. It might be a bit dark under her eyes, too? I'm not really sure. She looks so alive! You have an excellent touch. ^_^

About her having carrot hair, I have to say be cautious. Wait for her new eyes and see, but I think it's possible the sheer number of red-headed Dahlias being shared here may influence you a bit. I love red-headed dolls, don't get me wrong, but I think the lovely brown suits her well. The style is quite nice as well.

      Amalia

    36. I just realized--she looks like Cindy Lou Who in this picture!

Also, the black boots are back in stock!

    37. Her face i asymmetrical? I can't say I've noticed because I've own minimees and they are really super asymmetrical. Maybe I'll be able to tell easier once I start doing her faceup. :)

    38. I think she's gorgeous! Congratulations on her-what a beauty. I haven't found mine to look asymmetrical but I am really used to antique dolls, and some of those came out of the kiln downright crooked. Anyway, love her wig, her faceup, everything. Even kind of like the red eyes, but do get her some new ones, as you'll both feel better.

    39. I did notice that there's alot of redhead Dahlias in DoA, my reasons for making a red head was because I almost have all the other natural hair colours for the rest of my dolls; I have 2 black hairs, one blonde, one brown hair, and I thought" Hey, I don't have a red head, why not I make her one." :lol

After checking her out in a mirror, the Dahlia sculpt is slightly asymmetrical, one eye is higher than the other, but looking at her straight on I can hardly tell the difference. Hers is a more natural asymmetry that you find in alot of everyday people, and I'm totally okay with that. I find it more endearing than distracting. :)

    40. I'm going to have to look more carefully. I am a portrait painter, and so you'd think I'd notice that lack of symmetry, but I didn't, I'm ashamed to say.

    41. I would wait for her eyes and see. I like her with the brown, and I am normally more a red-head fan. LOL Maybe you can do her faceup so she could be either, and get her two wigs too, then you could switch off and on when the feeling moved you. LOL

    42. Her eyes could take two months since I'm waiting for the next meetup so I can borrow eyes off another owner to test the size. (And if I'm going to buy EDs) So it's more important the faceup matches the hair, since every hair type could potentially have different eye colour. But, Patience could also make a cute brunette, doing up a faceup to match different hair is a good idea. :)

    43. This wig finally arrived and I'm really happy with how it looks on Patience. That and the fact that it is sooo much shorter than her default wig. Long wigs are a pain to handle. XD the ribbons are tied on really crooked tho, I think I'll either tie them better, or look for some cute little hair clips, wheee!

I really can't wait to get started on her faceup.

    44. Beautiful wig, would look gorgeous on Patience. I can't wait either! Really want to see what you do.

    45. jenthred "-got so excited by news of another large doll"
What a delicious secret... can't wait for you to tell the details!... we may die from curiosity though :0)

Humbug : Gorgeous wig! Can't wait to see photos of Patience!!!!!

    46. No dying, okay? As soon as the details are finalized, I promise to tell it here first...well, no, second, but anyway, you get the idea....

    47. I am so glad to have found thread 2! I have a question for someone already living with one of these beautiful girls! Since I have a small house and 2 very large dogs, I'll need to be able to put mine up high, so does anyone know how tall she is seated? So much exciting news and posts here - I'm going back to the beginning to catch up.

    48. Well, it depends on what she's sitting on, and if her legs aren't stretched out towards the floor, but since Patience's chair is just the right scale for her, and her feet just nicely touches the ground, she's 63-64 cm tall when sitting.

    49. Thanks Humbug! just what I needed to know.... Now to find a safe place for her to sit when she gets here!

    50. Mine sit in a rocking chair in my bedroom. My other two sit in my studio, and give me inspiration...or a dirty look if I pay too much attention to my portrait and not to them. Yes, I have four-love multiples for their subtle differences. Can't wait for you to get yours; you're going to love her...but of course, she'll need a friend...

    51. Just to illustrate, here's Patience with Arianhod, who's 60cm with those boots I believe. :)

    52. Yes, she doesn't really take up too much room at all...

    53. Even without faceup, this is one exquisite doll...I just love her hands and feet, so well scultped. Patience looks very beautiful in her new wig; isn't it nice, too, that she has a sturdy, if smaller, protector?

    54. Thanks jenthered! They do look pretty cute positioned side by side like that, don't they? :)

    55. Yes they do, and like all good dolls, they manage to look beautiful and not silly...just interesting. I so love that wig on Patience, Humbug, she's ab fab already.

    56. Thanks for the space hints - if I lived in a normal house, it wouldn't require so much advance planning, but adding such a big girl to a very small house with 2 very large dogs means lots of measuring of available safe places! Your Patience with Arianhod photo helps put her size in perspective for me Humbug - thanks a lot! Now - off to look for a chair - she is supposed to get here the beginning of March, so no time to waste!!

    57. looking up lusion dolls with that "requiem" song in the background already makes my future character even more epic xD

anyway, I plan on getting a Lusion doll eventually (hopefully before the end of this year >w<). She's already planted her character in my mind O.o and i have so much fun drawing her xD Funnily enough, she's going to be a carrot-top as well xD Mostly because she likes the blacker clothes O.o and her orange hair stands out so well against her dresses...in the pictures. I totally can't wait to get her :D Though I have a feleing she's going to be the biggest doll i get, and the only one of her size :XD:

and amusingly enough the other night i had a dream about getting her -w- twas funny.
