I'm very excited to present the box opening of my first BJD! I ordered the Glamor Eve body, with the Youth Eve - Fine head, both blank but with additional sanding service on the body. These weren't originally a set, but fit together perfectly, as was promised in an enquiry email. The parcel arrived by EMS(fast) delivery, only two days after dispatch (from Korea to Japan). It came extremely well packaged, and the shipping box was in great condition. After digging through the double layers of bubble wrap, that was impressively well fitted to the box, here we have the doll box, which was also in good shape. Under the lid I was met by two cutely tied ribbons holding two (nice quality) satin pillows in place. Inside the pillows, the doll was very densely wrapped in foam, held in place with soft/thin elastic bands, and came with accompanying caution notice about removing this packaging carefully. Ta-da! The most exciting part for me, she has quite the first impression. (New resin smell is awesome!) After asking in an email, she came assembled and they even put in a free pair of eyes, along with a very generous amount of Sculpey to hold them in place. Upon inspection, there was a small black mark on her right arm, but thankfully it rubbed off fairly easily with a magic-eraser sponge. This (now removed) blemish aside, I am incredibly pleased with her resin quality. It's silky smooth, which I'm sure is made even better by the sanding service. It did result in some shinier patches, particularly around joints, but that's only really noticeable under direct light and from certain angles. Also included were her manual, certificate of authenticity, and some free goodies! The calendar was part of an event and listed to be included with orders over a certain value. In an unexpected addition though, a second pair of eyes, a blonde wig (of comparably low quality), pretty lace top, generic panties and wig fixing sticker were included. Testing her pose-ability out of the box, she was strung to a very usable tension. She moves very smoothly, and holds pose well. Her arms are particularly impressive, I hadn't even noticed the twist mobility joint below the shoulder. It allows a great range of motion while keeping a very smooth shoulder line. As expected of single jointed knees, this is her weakest area, though they do bend to 90 degrees while still looking great. This is somewhat compensated for by her hip joints, which are very spherical, and thus can rotate very well, turning the leg to almost any angle smoothly, including doing the splits laterally. (side-to-side) Her feet, while only having a high-heel option, also have a great range of motion, allowing her to point her toes in a very pleasing way. Finally, I'll include a few pretty snaps to showoff my weekend of hard work (and first face-up attempt!), and a few more fun poses. (More to come in future shoots) I'm a big fan of this face sculpt, and rather happy with her lips, they're very full, and that matches the rest of her body well. It should be noted that despite listing her as taking an 8-9" wig, those are far too large, she is in fact just under 8 inches head circumference, and 7-8" fits tightly. The overall head sculpt is narrow, but in my opinion a very pleasant shape, its just easily noticeable when compared to other dolls. Overall I'm extremely happy with my choice of purchase. The doll has an extremely voluptuous figure, and the sculpt detail is very fine. Dollmore's service has been great, with frequent email communication in good English, with prompt replies from inquiries before ordering right through to delivery. Thanks for reading! Any feedback, questions or commentary are welcome! I'm also happy to upload attempted pose requests, should anyone be interested.
Congratulations on getting such a gorgeous doll! And that's a mighty fine 1st faceup attempt, it's very lovey
Thank you all so much for the kind replies! The eyes, along with everything else, took many, many attempts... but eventually I got to here, which is far from perfect but I'm very happy for a first run. I couldn't have done it half as well without patient guidance from my amazing teacher and partner @Kittzel (thank you!). While all of her face-up is by my own hand, she gave me lots of little insights into small details I wouldn't have thought of, and tips for various techniques. I agree, the whole process is already very exciting, and how neat it all is really adds to that build up to meeting what's inside. It makes it feel more important, right?
(You're welcome! ) Her posing is really fun, and she has so much attitude. Very unique and expressive!
Thanks! I'm really pleased my long weekend paid off. Time to see what kind of mess I will make of clothes... Sewing is entirely new to me.
