Dollmore Fashion Doll Discussion

Jul 28, 2015

1. Dollmore's Resin Fashion Doll line was made on-topic for DOA a while back, but it seems no one started a thread for them - so here it is!

16 inch FMD (BJD)
12 inch FMD (BJD) - (I'm guessing these are on topic too, if not I'll remove the link)

Hopefully we can find out the kinds of clothes/eyes/wigs that work with these guys and girls!

I recently got a Jeremy - he's a good size, big enough for some mini clothing, but his head is so small that a lot of it is just too bulky-looking for him...so he's got some jeans and a sweater...that's about it! I'd love to see how Tonner clothing fits - I ordered one outfit and it's on the way. Shoes are good, I have one pair of Matt O'neil boots that fit. Though my DC Colin has them on now so Jeremy is still barefoot...XD

• x 1
2. Unfortunately, Tonner pants for the males tend to run short; my Jeremy and Essex suffer from the high-water problem when wearing the suits. (Darn those crazy-long Dollmore legs!) A shame, as Tonner uses beautiful fabrics and the clothes are well-detailed. That said, I'm basing my comment off of the pre-2006 clothes; I haven't bought any recently. Ditto for the Tonner shoes; my guys wear MSD shoes; Leekeworld used to have some nice styles that didn't look too childish.

3. I recently acquired a Misia off the market place and am currently experimenting with fashion doll clothes on her :) This is what I've figured out so far when it comes to clothing the 16inch dollmore ladies.
Urban vita dresses fit very well, they can be just a tiny bit tight in the waist but are otherwise perfect.

Tyler wentworth shirts are very tight through the shoulders, pants fit but are short. Sleeveless dresses fit so long as they are not perfectly tailored to Tyler smaller waist. Dollmore's girls also have a slightly longer torso so Tyler leotards and one piece swimsuits must be stretchy to fit.

Gene marshall dresses are to small in the waist if tightly fitted on gene. Sleeves are too short as are pants. Stocking do not fit right do to dollmore's much longer legs. Some outfits may be stretchy or loose enough to work but shop with caution.

I plan on buying clothing made for Ellowyne Wilde, Evangeline Ghastley, Jamie show and even Sybarite (if I can afford it) to continue to test what fits. As far as shoes go both Tyler and Gene shoes have fit very well but Ellowyne shoes are to big and don't fit the foot arch. For wigs size 4-5 is usually perfect, with 3-4 being way to small and 5-6 to big. My misia is wearing 6mm resin eyes from the etsy store dreaming tree studio and they look and fit great. I'd definitely recommend them.

Misia will most likely accompany me to BJDC in Austin this weekend so I'm hoping to pick up some stuff for her there:D

4. So I bought/scrounged together a bunch of shoes to try on my model girl and these are the results.

These shoes are from Paul Zhangby on ebay and were advertised as fitting Gene, Cami and Antoinette tonner dolls. They fit the Dollmore model doll high heel feet very well. The arch is not exact but the shoes stay on just fine and look good.

These shoes are also from Paul zhangby on ebay, they were advertised as Tonner's fitting Ellowyn Wilde doll. They don't fit the Dollmore model feet that well at all. They are to big and the arch is a little to steep, her foot tends to hover over the sole instead of sitting flat on it. They do stay on but are not a good fit.

These are official Gene Marshall fashion doll shoes. They are a little to long but the arch is near perfect. A very good fit!

These are pink sling backs from Facets by Marcia. They are a little big but they stay on decently. A different style shoe may look better as the fit is not bad.

And finally another pair by Paul Zhangby. these were made to fit The Sybarite Fashion doll thought the person who sold them to me said they did not even fit Sybarite correctly. As you can see the arch is way to steep! Looking at official sybarite shoes they all have very, very steep arches so I doubt any Sybarite shoes would be a good fit.

I hope this comparison helps people find their dolls some nice shoes :D

5. -T2P- wow that's a lot of shoes! Great info!
But it brings a question to mind that I had been wondering then forgot - (I don't have a girl, hence the noobness) Do the girls only have high-heeled feet?

6. that's good to know! I still have to figure out who my boy is, but I kind of already want a girl for him in the future....I'm glad there's an option for flat feet (and non-mag parts!)
Thanks!

7. I just got my Essex a couple days ago. He's going to become my character Asher. I have to make his outfit and do his face up, but for now he's in the clothing Dollmore included when he shipped to me. Here he is next to my Pipos Minuet. Despite the major difference in noggin size, I don't think they look out of place next to each other, haha.

I also did some mouth carving on him to get a smirk.
[IMG] [IMG]

8. I love the smirk your guy has chimera!

I've been interested in one of the guys for a long time but I do worry he'd look out of place next to a msd girl (such as withdoll in
particular.) Is it possible for any comparison pics before i take a plunge?

9. I love the body sculpt on my FMD Misia, but I'm not liking her head sculpt at all. I might wipe the faceup (which looks very dark and scowling), but next to my JID boy, her head size is laughable. I currently have a Zinna head on the body, which I like better because the proportions are good, but I'm not a fan of the open mouth look. Has anyone else hybridized the FMD body (or head for that matter)? I lucked out in finding someone on the MP who was willing to split her Judith Doll so I could get the head with a faceup, but I don't know what other company skin tones work well with Dollmore's since it's so fair and pink. I want to keep her as my fashion plate since she can wear so many of the Tonner/16" Fashion doll clothes, but if I can't find a head sculpt that I like I might end up rehoming her..... :pout:

10. I am honestly so in love with all of these dolls, I think for my next purchase I want to get one but I don't know which @.@

11. @Kirahfaye

I don't know finding a replacemental head would be pretty tough. Since these dolls are proportioned much more like fashion dolls the average msd sized head is going to be enormous on them. Most msd heads are oversized already so I can't see them looking right on this body.

Maybe a head from one of the off topic resin fashion dolls would look allright? Like maybe sybarite or jamieshow or kingdom doll? Those heads might be hard to find separately but Proportionally I think they'd fair best.

12. I have both 12" Kidult and Lucia dolls and one 16" Sara. Shoes are so hard to fi d and I am currently making clothes for both. Wigs are another nightmare too. All the nice ones are in larger sizes or frightfully expensive.

Clothing for the 12" Kidult/Lukia you could try Fashion Royalty and Silkstone. Blythe is far too small in the bust, the same with Momoko clothing.

Kayla

13. Shoes for 16" Dollmore FBJD - Facets by Marcia has a LOT of shoes and boots. The best thing she has done is tried all the available styles on various 16" doll feet and has given her honest opinion on how they fit.
Facets by Marcia - Fashion Doll Jewelry and Accessories
also...
On Ebay, look up paul_zhangby as they have shoes that will fit Barbie through to 16" and 22" dolls.

14. Hi. I was thinking about getting one of the 16" males. If anyone has one, can you answer a few questions. What is the range of the knee joint, 90 degrees or more/less? Can he sit up straight? In the Dollmore website photos, there are lines around the hands and feet; are they connected by magnets or do they swivel?

15. Not many post recently so thought I'd jump on. I have ordered a tattoo misia. I have always wanted a tattoo bjd. While I usually do the larger sized dolls, I have a lot of clothes and accessories for my older off topic fashion dolls from before I discovered BJDs. I am hoping this will bridge the two collections. It will be fun to play with this size doll again!

16. [IMG] I just received my Tattoo Misia. :sumomo: Her body and tattoos are gorgeous. I am feeling like her head is too small. I switched her to a Mika head sculpt but I believe Misia and Mika heads are the same size. Does anyone else feel this way about the head size?

17. @SunshineBlue, I agree with you about the Misia and Mika heads; they struck me as pinheady, so although I liked their faces, I ordered Sara, Yvonne, and more recently, Eya.

Generally the Dollmore fashion dolls have a very fashion-sketch look, and in some of those the heads are small and the limbs exaggeratedly long, so Mika and Misia could be viewed that way.

18. Thanks @beamlette. I almost got the Sara head instead of the Mika head. I'll have to get that one next.

19. Well, I fell down the fashion BJD hole, and Dollmore has been a long-standing favorite company of mine. I especially love Jeremy, Essex, and Hayon.

So glad that there are more fashion BJDs out there to give me even more of a reason to take another look at Dollmore's fashion line XD

20. @bewaretheshort1, it's been several months since I looked at Dollmore's fashion doll line on their website, and I see they added Hayon since then; thanks for the heads-up, lol!

I've had my Jeremy and Essex for years; they really need a photoshoot -- soon, soon...

Meantime, here's a pic of my Eya Highmore, who arrived last summer, to help bump this thread --

21. @beamlette - Can you tell me if the boys have double or single jointed knees? And if the hands and feet connect by magnets or not? Is that cut in the upper arm a joint and if so how easily does it swivel?

22. @xyuemoto, the male dolls' knees are single-jointed, and constructed like a mini version of Dollmore's Model males. The hands and feet are attached with small s-hooks; thankfully Dollmore gave up the magnet hands and feet several years ago. The cut in the upper arm is indeed a joint, and it swivels easily.

The fashion line is like a mini version of the Model line, but they don't seem to be 3D printed versions like other companies' fashion lines. A little warning, the DM fashion guys have huge feet, and have to wear MSD shoes, and they can be a little difficult to dress. I use some of my Tonner Matt clothes on them, but the DM guys have longer legs, so they're often wearing flood pants :sweat Still, I forgive them, because Jeremy and Essex are so good-looking

23. @beamlette - Thanks so much for the info. Do they sit up straight or lean back some? Could you give me your opinion on the pros and cons of the poseability?

24. If it's anything like the Dollmore dolls I have at home (and they all lack the swivel joint)...

There are some posing pitfalls I've noticed with the larger Dollmore bodies (Dollmore Adam and Dollmore Model F) is that their thigh and chest joints are a bit slippy. The chest joint tends to go to extremes - all the way forward or all the way backwards - and doesn't like to sit in the middle, upright position very well. They thighs aren't bad while standing or anything like that, but while you're carrying them or moving them, tend to turn in the socket and cause the legs to be backwards. I've had to do hot-glue sueding on them to help stabilize (as well as the shoulders, although that was more in the interest of being thorough than it being necessary). Afterwards, they're very stable.

The Dollmore bodies have some of the most graceful poses of any doll I've ever owned - from that brief Fairyland body to Iplehouse to Dollshe. On more than one occasion, I've had them literally fall into a natural, sexy pose that required very little altering to make them look great. Their ankles have an good range of movement and they can point their toes. Arms and hands, likewise, have a good range of motion. Even with the knees being single-jointed, I haven't encountered any real issues with them - and I say this as someone who's largely a die-hard fan of double-joints.

These are the larger bodies, though, so I imagine that the issues I've encountered with poses are somewhat mitigated in the smaller size. My experience with Dollmore engineering has made me confident that their fashion line won't disappoint. I'm very interested to see what the swivel joint brings!

But I can gush about Dollmore bodies all day. As I said, I've owned a lot of dolls in my time, and Dollmore remains one of my absolute favorites - both in sculpting and in posing.

I'm so hyped for the Dollmore Fashion dolls. I saw them years ago, before fashion dolls became much of a thing in the hobby, and while I really liked them (and even considered them at the time), it was while I was still struggling with the size of the dolls. I just hadn't been able to bond with MSDs. Apparently, I can if they're fashion dolls XD

25. I had no idea these dolls were finally on topic, I have had my girl for years, but never posted any pics of her and she has mellowed some in her resin, but I love her just the same. She is a Sara basic with Dollmore faceup. hoping to take picture for this thread soon.

26. @xyuemoto, this morning I was having difficulty getting Essex to sit up; he kept falling back. Then again I've never done any glue sueding or silicone joint discs on him; that could help, just as @bewaretheshort1 mentioned with the larger Dollmores. I can get him to stand on his own; those big feet help that, lol! Anymore I don't leave anyone freestanding; I bought basic Kaiser stands for everyone around here. Not the prettiest things, but they're reliable.

@derilan85, yes, please, take pics of your Sara to post; we need more Dollmore fashion doll love here!

27. @beamlette - Are they strung with one string head to legs?

28. @xyuemoto, as far as I can tell, they used two strings, one for each leg, as they do with their larger dolls. Unlike their larger dolls, they put the string knots in the torso! The S-hook in his head is a little big for the head slot; I need to change that, so his head can come off more easily. (Another thing to add to the to-do list, lol!)

29. @beamlette I've found sueding or the silicone kips really helps with posing issues I have with my Dollmores. It's nice to know they're putting the knots in the torso. I've started stringing my dolls that way, just to get the knots out of the way so I can position the eyes.

@xyuemoto You're welcome! I can go on and on and on about how much I adore Dollmore XD

30. @beamlette I love his little suit! And his watch! I know how tiny these dolls are, so seeing how close to scale the suit, tie, and watch are is just impressive. And those chairs! :love

31. @bewaretheshort1, thank you! His suit was a Tonner Matt O’Neill, and his watch and glasses were by Minimode. Although I parted with many of my Tonner dolls year ago, I hated to part with the clothes and accessories, as they’re so well-done. The chairs were made by a John Morgan, who for a little while did furniture to order for the 1/4 scale fashion dolls. :)

32. I was sad to see that Tonner dolls were discontinued... like, a year ago. It'll be harder to get fashions in the scale we're working with now.

lol Which figures, right? XD

33. @bewaretheshort1, I was going to suggest Ebay to find Tonner Matt clothes, but a quick search didn’t turn up anything — for now. You might check there periodically; someone may eventually put some up for sale. I wish I knew of other sources to suggest, but ATM I can’t think of any. :sweat

34. I have been thinking of getting one of these as a companion to my 43cm Granado Napoleon. Do you think they would look good together?
[IMG]Kensett by SteamWitch, on Flickr

35. Good question! The Dollmores have long limbs and smallish heads -- they use size 5, 5.5 wigs. How big are the Granados' heads? I've never seen any of this size range in person, so I have no "feel" for them. Then again, if you aren't super-fussy, they could go together just fine.

36. My Granado has a small head, wears a 4-5 wig, but I do worry about the short torsos. My big glamor model looks short when sitting with other dolls in the same height range so I was wondering if that is true of the fashion dolls too.

37. Unfortunately I don't have any other of the more realistic types of MSDs to compare them sitting, but I sat one of my DM guys and measured from seat cushion to top of head, and it was 8 inches/24cm. Hope that helps!

38. Thank you!!!!! My Granado is 8.8 inches.:thumbup

39. I finally got around to ordering a strung arm set for my fashion gal. She's really old and had the completely garbage magnet arms and thus I never played with her or photographed her because her hands fell off constantly.

I'll probably have to purposefully yellow the arms a little to match her but it will be worth it. I really love the 16 inch fashion line!

40. I'm looking at Thelma... Has anyone got her yet or is she too new? I loooove her sculpt, I wish Dollmore would show blank sculpts too though... So hard to see through their face-ups... But I am VERY tempted to buy Thelma right now because of their sale...

41. I have totally bought her! She's gorgeous blank, even! I bought just the head to hybrid on a Resinsoul single-jointed body and it looks amazing!

[IMG][IMG][IMG]

To be fair, her feet and hands are too big for this body, so I am looking for alternatives, but I like having her on less of a model body. If you need better pictures of the head, just let me know!

• x 2
42. I really like her on ResinSoul, @TasiaChiba and I'm kind of a sucker for big hands and feet, LOL. I never noticed RS bodies had such large hands and feet??? I'm curious though, would the head also fit on the MNF body? Maybe not color wise, but it looks like that might look good too, as long as the neck isn't too big?!

I've always been a sucker for Sara, she has been a draw for .... ever! But I'm not crazy about dollmore bodies, just not my favorite. But now I see I could buy some of the heads, including Sara. Why don't they offer more heads for sale? Also, they don't show how to tell them which head you want, kind of weird???

I do have chic-line dolls, and I think these are a little taller, but gosh, if I could put the head on a mnf body, that would seal the deal, as I like the realistic proportions and I'd be able to build up my crew in the chic-line size :D Dollmore has some really cool faces. Especially the boys!

43. @IngieBee : I'll show her on the MNF body for you tomorrow after work ~ ^_^ As for ordering, they buried the comment that says to leave the model name in the comments when you purchase, heh. That's what I did. I don't mind the big feet, but for her I do want to find some smaller hands. And there is a definite size difference between the single jointed body and the doubles~

44. Thank you @TasiaChiba!! Your girl looks great!! I took the plunge and ordered my own full Thelma last night. Along with a few sets of clothes, wigs and eyes hahaha. Can't wait!! Could you perhaps take a picture of your girl's face from straight ahead?

I also have a Chicline and I found a comparison pic on Flickr, the Dollmore girls are a lot taller, about 4-5 cm. I'm 6'3" and it could be me and my shortest friend tbh

45. Ah, so nice to be tall! Yah, I know the Dollmores are taller, but their heads are similar, no? I'll check out flickr see if I can find that comparison. Thanks @Evelien :D Couldn't find the comparison but checked the site, and Dollmores are also 5" wigs, so I think they'd look great together?? Especially if I use a different body :)

46. Ehhh I wish I wasn't THIS tall though . I found the comparison for you, Chicline and Dollmore are on the left, and yes their head sizes match:
IMG_5015

47. @Evelien : Sure! I have some from when she arrived, but not uploaded. I'll so that when I get home and post as well.

So glad you went for her! Which fullset did you choose?

Also, the dollshe body looks like a good possible body as well!!

48. Wonderful, thank you so much :D

@TasiaChiba , looks like there are a lot of bodies to choose from, I might be able to go larger and put them with my Iplehouse FIDs? But if the head fits the Chiclines, then I'd be happy to expand that group out :D

Listen to me! I'm supposed to STOP buying dolls :doh

49. Thanks! I didn't buy a fullset, just a blank doll. :) I'll do her face-up myself. I just got her a few loose pieces like 3 pairs of trousers, a dress, a shirt, underpants etc. :D

50. Well, I randomly checked out this thread, which was a mistake as I liked the Resinsoul hybrid above so much I instantly bought a Thelma head of my own to make a hybrid! :XD: Yes, I have no impulse control and it was the fact they had a sale for only until the end of the day that swayed me... I intend to try the head on a Withdoll (old) girl body to be a teenager next to my FID and Raccoondolls, and hopefully it will look in scale! So I've ordered it blank to hopefully get a younger looking face-up for her.

So, uh, thanks everyone for enabling me, I guess?

51. sale??? Wait I didn't see that last night, is it still going on? ...? Aw, I don't see a sale, you must have caught it in their sale corner??

52. It might be over now depending on time zones - it was on the side, a blue image saying 8% off store wide. It happened automatically once you checked out but not before that!

53. Oh, OK, well, I'll see if it happens :D

54. Oh my goodness! It seems we have a Thelma buying spree! * __ * <3

@IngieBee : I attempted to swap heads tonight, but I underestimated just how tightly Fairyland strung this body... @_@ And coupled with the fact I cut my dominant thumb yesterday, I wasn't able to get the quick change mech off today. I'm still going to attempt it later, but for now I took some comparative photos.

The first photo is with her on the Resinsoul neck side-by-side with the Minifee. I did close measurements, too, for you! The RS neck measures at 6.3cm, give a centimeter, and the Minifee measures just at where the quick change mech lies on the neck itself at 6.7cm. The Minifee tapers smaller after that point, which leads me to believe the Thelma head will fit much better than I expect. All else fails, the slightest sanding will even it out. Proportionally, she looks rather good!

The second photo is a collage of two images, the first of that which is with the head placed at the exact height it should lie on the neck itself. The second is above it, but better perspective so that you can see proportion better.

@Evelien : These images above also have a full-front shot, too! You can even see her teeeeethies!!! (Well, one "fused" tooth, hahaha!) Also, I realized I read full as fullset. I absolutely cannot wait to see what you do with her! I'm so excited other people are interested in her as well. She's just so amazing in person.

EDIT: I should have asked if you wanted a full-front photo for mockups. If so, let me know, and I'll be sure to post a clear, just head shot for that purpose.

@morganatron : I have absolutely been looking at Withdoll bodies as potential hybrids as well! I had been looking at photos and trying to find some of Withdolls with dolls I might have on hand or have seen to get a better idea of proportions. Would love to find a photo with Resinsoul + Withdoll side-by-side to give me an idea. I have also considered trying the RS Rong body, but it might be a gamble.

As for Raccoondolls, I totally tried this head on one of my girls. The proportions looked great, though the head still appeared juuuust a tad small (not enough to disuade me), but the neck absolutely has to be sanded down to work best. Also, I didn't do it for the images, but you would definitely need a smaller s-hook for Thelma's head. The RD s-hook was waaay too large and I couldn't close her headcap! I also tried it on my FMD Chris' body and it also looks amazing! It looks so amazing I almost want to get another Thelma head to put on this body. However, I'm leaning towards looking at another head, just haven't decided which.

[IMG][IMG]

I might have a teeeeensie tiiiiiiny love of hybriding! ^_^
