The hotel website says you do! This is why I'm probably just going to go with the hotel valet, especially since I'll have a rental.

 

Same here. I don't like the thought of parking in a garage overnight. Too many horror stories of cars being robbed/vandalized. I think it'd be safer to use valet hotel parking. I'll just be sure to calculate it into the cost.

 

I rented a car for the whole thing too, so it is good to know about all the parking options and where there are in/out privileges. It was a lot cheaper to fly into Rochester for us, so I'm making up for that with the rental which is something I would have gotten anyway.

 

You don't need a doll carrier, really (although they are nice for carrying dolls on short trips). When traveling, you just need to have a face-protector, to make sure eyelashes don't get squashed and faceups don't get scratched or rubbed. Just use something to pad your doll in a bag that will fit him/her. Clothes can work, if space is tight with your luggage.

For carrying around at the con, you might as well have the doll out and visible, or what's the point? (Unless you really are just looking for clothes to try on, anyway.) People do have stroller-things if they have a lot of dolls they can't carry, but I worry about them getting bumped together that way...

Carrying smaller dolls is MUCH easier. I had two minis at my last con and had them in a basket that I carried around, making sure their faces weren't rubbed by anything.

One of them had magnetic parts... which could have been disastrous because they DID get knocked about a bit and would pop off! I almost lost them a couple of times, so I'm going to have to think twice about bringing anything with parts that can be lost!!!! (As in--NO unless I can set them up somewhere where they won't be carried about and have pieces lost!)

Small elf ears that are attached can be pretty safe if you are being careful, I think. I've never had problems. The only time I've seen pointed ears damaged was when a doll was knocked to the floor and happened to land on the ear...!

 

There are a few people canceled their hotel reservations. If you happen to have a reservation with the Hyatt but didn't get the convention rate, try calling the hotel to see if you can switch to the lower convention rate.

 

If you don't mind weird looks, I've seen people at conventions putting their dolls in strollers... saves your arms from carrying multiple big dolls.

 

Maybe I missed it, but is there a separate thread for people who are having room sales? By that I mean, is there a thread where people who plan to have room sales can put previews of what they're selling?

Is that even possible/allowed?

Honestly, I'm not going to be carting my dolls around at all times. I've tried doing it at anime conventions before, and it's just too cumbersome for the long term. But if there are meets or other types of gatherings, I probably will bring them around. If I bring my little Yo-SD sized boy he might be able to ride in my purse, but since I'm undecided, I still have no idea if he's coming or not.

 

I really have no idea who is going. I am using one of my dolls for the costume contest so she is the only one who has an automatic pass....other than her, I am sure it will depend on packing when the time comes. I would love to take everyone but I know that realistically that isn't a possibility. I will just carry one or two in a bag and one in my arms.

 

I think I have decided what dolls will come (disassembled for ease of air transport). It helps that two of the girls I was choosing between are a resin match, so I will bring one body and let them share it.

 

I have pretty much decided I'll be bringing my Lieselotte and Williams with me. I had kind of wanted to bring my Seolrok, since Switch will be there, but he still doesn't have a body of his own, and also only has a very amateurish faceup by me. >_>;

For air travel, I usually pack my dollies securely in my carry-on, dismembering them if I have to and just wrapping up their parts securely. For walking around at a con, I get tired of them very quickly, so I try to only carry one at a time! But I'll have a non-doll-owning friend there who doesn't mind carrying one for me, and I'll probably have a tote bag for stashing things in that I can put them in if my doll-carrying arm gets too sore. XD

 

A tote bag for items! Augh, thesaraghina. Your idea is brilliant. Simple, yet brilliant. Why have I never thought to do that? 8D; I shall brign a tote bag for stashing all my goodies as well!

I have a vague idea of who I am going to bring, but augh, it still changes daily.

oh no workshops or panels I would have loved to see SDink's workshop and photography tips. I guess next time I have to keep my eyes really open, I just never really heard people talk about this before. I just randomly saw SDink's post then found out about this. but the vendor area looks really exciting! it seems I normally go to vendors anyway in anime conventions lol.

 

I'm trying to figure out how many of my 14 robot dolls I can conceivably fit in one suitcase, lol. I'd love to bring at least one doll from each company, but I'm scared I won't be able to manage carrying them around all the time, especially since my room is in another hotel...

Well, at the very least I intend to bring my Souldoll Souloid Kowalski (since he's freaking awesome), at least one of my Batchix dolls, and my Leel Tinman ('cause he's tiny). I would love to bring my Volks Kos-Mos and my OOAK modded mecha Ndoll Miso, but they are really really NOT meant for travel since they're both quite fragile. Oh, and I'll be wearing roboty outfits to match my doll family!

 

Well, i'm thinking so far, my Luts yul, my Dearmine Dune OR storm, not sure which sooming will be coming, maybe the unicorn. my pipos mari head is coming simply so i can resin match. i may bring more though just so HARD who to bring!

 

pffft. I have used a umbrella stroller for years. I'd rather have arms that aren't sore for a week (I carried around Tatsuha all weekend at a con once ) than worry about how I look. Besides, even in the mundane world, I carry around one of my SDs, so I don't even see the weird looks anymore.

The good thing about an umbrella stroller is that I have my messenger bag hooked on the back so that my arms are free!

Man, I sound like I deal in umbrella strollers!

YAY! Someone else that's going to cosplay/dress special! I was beginning to think that I was the only one!

I know that I'm bringing Nittle Grasper with me, so that's three SD+ dolls right there, but I'm thinking I should also bring Tatsuha (DIM MNM/ Spiritdoll Proud v2 hybrid) since he's difficult to find clothes for as well as Twyla, my EID Luna Tamer Chimera. I LOVE their bodies, but clothes finding can be hit-or-miss unless it's specified its for them.

I know I'm getting nervous about Dollism, I'm starting to have dreams on how I'm going to pack my room sales items in my SUV!

Hey locals, besides a taxi, what is the easiest way to getfrom the Buffalo airport to the convention center?

 

I STILL wanna bring my Lumie with me, even though I'll be picking up an Elysia there! Double stroller, perhaps? lol

I'm thinking I might bring my Limhwa 60cm EOS girl, though, because she's hard to find clothes for. She's not horribly tall, but she's got big boobs and a big ass so it makes sizing iffy. I think she'll fit Soom's Super Gem girl clothes, though, and some Dollheart SD16 outfits. What I'm really after, though, is a wig that matches her default faceup well. It's a gorgeous faceup, but she's got gold eyebrows, and her eyelashes are pink! None of the wigs I've tried have worked quite right so far.

Aside from that, I still have no idea who to bring.

Oh yes, bring your Luna Tamer Chimera! To be completely honest I have yet to clothe mine at all, lol. I'll have to find you and let you help me pick out some clothes for my girl, lol. (Kidding~! XD)

 

YAY! Someone else with a LTC! Twyla will probably have on her Chimera head, feet and claws since I find them beautiful, but I'm going to leave her tail in the room or in my messenger bag. I LOVE IH girls, but their body shapes are a bit of a pain to dress. I ended up finding a dealer in Poland on etsy and nearly bought out all of her EID stock.

I'll be easy to spot, I'll more than likely be cosplaying as my namesake, pushing a umbrella stroller full of BJDs.

Side note: Its always cool to see my Ryuichi and Ichi (his younger version) come up on google whenever I look for pics!

How many people are staying for more than just the weekend? I've been busy all morning looking over different tours and things to do with my non-doll friend who's going with me, and there are so many fun looking things in the area!

Also, am I the only one worried about the weather? I've googled average temps for the time of year, and while I know they're pretty mild, they're actually similar to the coldest temperatures we get at all down here in South Florida. Maybe I'm just overthinking things, though! ;P

Anyway, it's so soon! I'm terribly excited.

 

close to five more weeks! W're staying until late Monday, flying in Wednesday morning and leaving Monday night. (I hope. My traveling buddies went to FL this weekend and though our flight has been bought, there is a chance they'll cancel and I'll be unable to go.)

 

I'm arriving early and staying late! We are driving up and are planning on arriving on the 16 and staying till the 23! I am so freaking excited for this. Is anyone else planning on crossing the border? Neither of my traveling buddies have passports and I really want to check out the Canada side of the falls!

 

We are! I got mine back in June, they just put in for theirs. Not too late to get a passcard!

 

I'm definitely going into Canada! I'm not arriving until Friday (and the airline keeps pushing my flight back, argh!) but we're staying until Thursday the 25th. We've got plans to go up to Niagara-on-the-Lake and the wine country around that area, and we'll be sightseeing around the Falls themselves on another day.

 

My friend and I are both coming in on the Thursday and leaving Monday afternoon. We'd both like to head over to the Canadian side of the falls but we're not sure how we'll do that since neither one of us is driving. If all else fails, we'll see the falls later in the week when she comes back to Canada with me.

 

Well maybe we can get a group together and go visit Canada! I'll have to bother them about getting a passcard, it would be nice to have people to go with. This is my first doll convention and my 2nd convention ever so I'm super excited!

 

I may cross the border, depending on how I get there and how long I have to stay. I might have a full time Monday through Friday job soon, and if that's the case I'll get there late Friday and leave late Sunday. And still not sure if I will drive with mom or fly.

 

I'm staying for more than the weekend! Not for very long, just from that Thursday (maybe earlier), to the next Wednesday. My friend who isn't into dolls is coming with me, so we have to find things to do so she won't be bored out of her mind. I believe she wants to see the falls, so we'll probably be heading that way.

Ooh, I'd love a trip to the falls. I put down Saturday both morning and afternoon - I could do Friday afternoon but I'm flying in that morning so I'm kind of at the mercy of the airline that day. If they run late and the trip was early afternoon, that could be a problem.

 

Myself and my friends will be arriving to Buffalo on Thursday the 18th and flying back out on Wednesday the 24th The 22nd-24th we'll be staying in Canada to enjoy all the Canada things we Floridians can't enjoy, lol! We'll definitely be doing the falls, checking it out from but the American and Canadian sides. :3

... guess I'm also bringing lots of pants/ long sleeve shirts/ sweaters because if it's even COOL there, I know I'm going to be frozen solid 8D!!

 

Would the trip to the Falls be for attendees only? I'm going with friends of mine, a married couple, and the husband is not attending the con, but the wife is. Would he be able to go on the proposed Falls trip, too?

 

I'm pretty much down for anytime to visit the falls. My only concern food-wise, especially since there is going to be a desert buffet, is if hazel nuts/filberts will be in any of the deserts, specifically chocolate things (which are the usual suspects for that type of nut addition *sigh*). If I eat hazel nuts, I will die without immediate medical attention. As long as I know something has them, I won't touch it.

 

Flying in late Thurs., flying out on Tues, for me. We couldn't get the con hotel for Monday, so we're staying somewhere closer to the Falls... Not sure of exact plans when it comes to Niagara... so don't know about the convention-related trip...

 

I'm all up for the Niagara trip...as long as it's not to the Canadian side, and I don't know if that's the plan? I know that the better view's supposed to be on that side, but I would only stay Stateside.

I said 'no' to the convention related trip because we'll be doing our own Falls thing on Monday/Tue

 

The trip would be to the American side only - the border is a huge hassle in groups.

We're adding one or two more items to the schedule - one is being confirmed still, but I can mention the other. Now: we are going to open up one if the smaller ballrooms from 5-6:30pm Saturday for a swap meet. It's kind of an extension of room sales, but a bit more centralized. We'll provide more info on it later.

 

How cool is that? Woot! Getting to be less than a month away!

I need to start disassembling the dolls that I am bringing and getting them packed up. One needs a new face-up. Two have outfits on the slow boat from China. Also, my room-sale goodies need finished. Do I get to panic now?

yea its coming up too quick no time to make things for room sales so I'll have to just bring stuff my dollies no longer need and hope for the best. Doesn't a swap meet mean swapping good not sales or maybe I'm confused? I mean sales in a central room would be awesome especially if you weren't able to get a room at the hotel..but seems like it would be taking people away from room sales. Can't wait for further details.
