Dollinquency 2018! (Bloomington, MN) September 29th, 2018

Sep 17, 2018

    1. I just heard about the first annual Dollinquency Doll Event a couple days ago on instagram, and have since arranged to go, and I was curious if anyone else was planning to attend?

      The website: Dollinquency

I'm super excited personally, since it'll be my first ever even of this sort, and I'm hoping to enter in a couple of the contests, as well as I hope I might get the chance to meet some of you lovely people!
I know it's only about a week and a half away at this point, but I couldn't find anything on here to know if anyone else has even heard of it! I hope that at least a couple of you lovelies are able to attend!

    5. This is the first I've heard of it, so I'll likely be working that day :(

    8. Hey everyone,

Is there someone here who attended Dollinquency? I'd like to get another source on what I was told after the event today.

To be clear, I did NOT attend. I met up with a couple friends who attended Dollinquency after the event ended. They both said there was a recast Aileen Doll being sold openly by a vendor in the vendor room, and nothing was done to stop this by the event organizer.

This makes me very sad because I would really love to see a Midwest doll con take hold and grow, but if this event allowed the sale of recast dolls, then it's not something I can support.

Can someone who attended confirm if this really happened?

      Thanks!

    9. Unfortunately, I have to confirm that a vendor was indeed selling one. It was honestly quite appalling, especially when I was so excited about it being my first ever convention/doll meet... Dx

I still stuck around, partly because I didn't really know what to do, and partly because I honestly wanted to be mistaken, or to at least give people the benefit of the doubt...but at the end of the day, I did hear a couple people say that they owned recasts or were recast neutral to some extent. I believe the vendors words about the sollin question were ''I can't say that I don't understand the problem, but that's why I'm being so upfront about it."
It definitely disheartened me greatly with the idea of attending any sort of doll conventions x.x
As for supporting it, if they take a stronger stance against recasts in the future, I'd consider going again...but until then, I feel sick at the thought that I even attended this one, let alone enjoyed parts of it... :(

    10. I'm so sorry this was your first experience with a doll meet! I hope you're willing to try again. We have a pretty active group in Minnesota and try to have monthly meet ups. We'd love to have you come. The next meet is on October 28th and is Halloween themed. :)

Dollinquency's attitude towards recasts is very disappointing. If they try to run the event again next year, I will definitely reach out and ask about their recast policy ahead of time. Hopefully we can put some pressure on them to raise their standards.

    11. I will certainly try to make it, if my schedule and budget allows me to make the trip to the cities again that soon! Otherwise, perhaps in another month or two!
I love my dolls so much, and I really want to spend time with people who genuinely are pro-artist, and help support this hobby...so I definitely want to attend another meet before I get the idea that all of them are going to be terrible!

Yeah, that's the only thing I can really think of doing in the future. All that I can really do right now is learn from my experience and just do tons more research into the policies at the meets and conventions I'm interested in
