Props Dollhouse for Busy People

Sep 1, 2023

    1. This is my newer version of my BJD dollhouse project :) I cannot find the old one and it's been way overdue anyways.:doh

      Dollhouse (Shell)
I bought IKEA wardrobe for under $400. When I bought this, I didn't realise I had to pick it up within 24 hours if I don't wish to pay nearly $90 for shipping. So I drove 1h 40m to the closest IKEA while my three little kids were at daycare. It was so worth driving that far (but that is another non-BJD related story:eusa_sile)

(In case you wonder, that's my cat husband showing off his sexy tail on the left)

      Exterior
I eventually want to turn this modern wardrobe to look ethereal, fantastical, antique style armoire. With my tiny budget, I first bought a pair of doorknobs from Hobby Lobby so I can keep my children out with baby safe lock:sweat

I installed window with a cutout tool. (The window is a candle sconce from Hobby Lobby. I removed the scones part.) Then up-cycled "floor" from my previous diorama to make a temporary wood shutter to shut natural light in style. (The floor was made with vinyl plank sticker from Hobby Lobby stuck on a foam board)

      Up Next
-Install window box and plants. -Add moldings and maybe more windows in the front.

      Interior
I glued LED stripes on "ceilings" and mounted the switches on the door so I can plug them on extension cord only when I'm playing with my dolls. (the original adhesive was not strong enough) I used wrapping paper for lover level for kid dolls. I got antique/vintage style postcards for an easy art display on the wall. I used the leftover plunk sticker I mentioned above to cover the floorings.

      Up Next
-wainscot the wall, apply stucco / fabric on uncovered area

      Decoration (Props)
I made the bookcase out of craft wood and acrylic. Fireplace is made of thin foam board (I removed the paper layer) and cardboard. Both recycled. Detailed tutorial can be find on my profile. I recently added bed just because. I used thin craft wood and discount utility foam but they are steady enough to hold any of my dolls.
All other props were mostly found online or at general stores.

      Storage
I use decorative storage boxes to store doll clothes and accessories in style. The only problem with my dollhouse is that, I turned almost entire wardrobe into doll rooms that now I need somewhere else to store my dolls and props because it's rapidly getting crowded:sweat:sweat:sweat

      Convertible Doll Room
I got a huge inspiration by Azurefantoccini_bjd on IG and started constructed walls with foam board....only to find out I don't have room to store even the collapsed wall panels or room to build them without intruption:...(
      So,
I turned them to fit my IKEA wardrobe. I want to make more of these walls with some forced detention facade to give depth. there is one window I made with led strip. :) I need to make it brighter somehow but this is a good step forward :)

    4. This is awesome, storage and a area to do photos. Very creative. I keep telling my husband Ikea is a great thing, but he says he's not convinced. I think it's the money and the fact he gets lost. Been to one once. LOL

@VicVersal If I could afford room and budget, I wanted antique wooden china cabinet or armoire:sweat I hope you find the perfect one to portray your dollies' world:blush

Oh gosh, I neglected this thread for so long. Thank you for the comments :whee: I will be posting update soon!

    12. Good luck to you!:XD: I do not have room for 1:3 dollhouse so I only made one permanent room in armoire and I have a 1:12 dollhouse to represent the entire house.:3nodding:
