I had nowhere to sit my dolls apart from on a shelf, which in my opinion was not good enough. I decided they deserved somewhere much more fitting. I was browsing through Ebay on the dolls accessories section and found a Baby Dolls cradle which I could see had possibilities. The first thing I did was to ask the measurements. The cradle was 60cm long, so I figured this woudl be perfect... When It arrived it looked like this... Very white and frilly - not in keeping with my Girls at all and with the flimsiest mattress you ever saw. I discarded the curtains, mattress, pillow and castors as i wanted a completely different look. I removed the front cradle side, sanded the white finish and painted it a gloss black. I cut a piece of thick upholstery foam to fit the base and covered this in a cotton fabric....as you can see my Soah was getting a feel for it already. Next I made a duvet from a rectangle of wadding covered in black satin and red lace. I used three layers of the same wadding to make a pillow shape covered in matching fabric. The curtains were made from red and black organza, edged in lace. They are simple rectangle shapes twice the size of the area they had to cover. The tie backs were some leftover trimming lengths with hook and eye fasteners. The satin sheet was just a rectangle of fabric cut large enough to fold under the mattress. All I have left to do now is to add some lace edging to the top (which is on order and will be delievered any day now..) All in all this was a very simple project which I hope gives anyone the inspiration to have go themselves. There were no complex patterns to follow, but I am sure you will agree the results are effective. Soah is also wearing another of my recent creations...and is just waiting for me to get round to finishing her matching hat
Woooooooo - that's lovely! A bed fit for a queens boudoir methinks. Want to share the eBay sellers ID with us? I would love a bed like this for my dolls (not the same of your of course, i would make it flowery). Great Work P.S. What's in the cage?????
What a great job! Sometimes it's hard to see the possibilities of something when you see it on eBay...you did a great job looking beyond the frilly white crib and seeing something a lot more appropriate for your dolls.
I am afraid it was just an ordinary household ebay seller - not someone who specialises in dolls items. It was a "Lissy doll" bed though if that helps. Oh and it is a tortoise in the rabbit run and a snake in the tank behind the bed. Thanks for the comments - its a real boost to know someone else likes your work
Thanks for the info - i will check out Lissy Doll on eBay (probably along with just about everyone else who sees this). I love tortoises, don't mind snakes, i once lost one of my sons and then found it 6 months later - alive and well and terrifying the neighbours in their garden. HA HA - how i laughed!
this is very inspiring indeed! I mean, the end result looks fabulous~ I'm thinking of doing something similar with these garden ornaments that I've bought and I'm going to turn them into sofas and chairs. But I'd want to do a bedset some day...I guess that'll depend on the space in my room. ^^; Anyways, I enjoyed looking at this a lot! Thanks for sharing! ^^
Are Dollfie beds that desirable and hard to get? I'm a design student and I was actually planning to make dollfie beds for sale. Maybe I should start a thread and ask people what dollfie funiture they need cause I can see a serious lack of nice and stylish beds, sofas etc. Your bed is beautiful! I don't like the gothic style but you've made such a good work, it looks so rich and sophisticated lovely
I think any furniture for Dollfies is hard to find. I am sure you will find a lot of interest if you intend to make items, especially if you take on custom requests. My next project is going to be a sofa and chairs
How beautiful and awesome! I feel dumb now that I sold my bed that was like that at a yard sell >.<!! You did a wonderful job
I just found this topic *Waves to Lady Spiderdust* Its good to see you here! The bed is awesome! You are so very creative! I just love the fabrics you picked. Ohh, and the dress you made is lovely as well! I've done a little bit of furniture, (a chair) and I'm working on a chaise lounge right now, so I know how tricky it can be! Keep up the awesome work!
The only thing that I can say is WOW!! You did a wonderful job. Thanks for sharing, you've just given me some inspiration.
Wow thats awesome (I can see it now....me saying to hubby...."Dear...I want to make a doll bed...can I spend a ton on it" ) I will favourite this post so I can do this in the future though!
It was really nice to see that bed! It's so beautiful I found some miniature chairs from the local.. err... store that has all kinds of cards and paints and pretty stuff in general... they were about 2 euros each and are.. maybe ten cm tall, from the sitting part to ground. Painted it red and added a gold colored hummingbird picture to it. As a final touch, I painted some of the parts again so they were wet, and put decoration sand (white) on it. It looks just like cake frosting. Really cutesy and pretty~
What a great job! Very nice. For others looking for a large doll bed...try looking on e-bay for pet beds. Here is one I found that might work. http://cgi.ebay.com/SAFARI-PRINT-CU...oryZ1467QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
ooops...I double posted. But here is another neat one: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Luxury-Cleo...ryZ66762QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I like those pet beds - I can see those transformed into something stunning. I am sure it wouldnt be too hard to replace the mattress.... Thanks for the comments everyone
You did a brilliant job~! It looks lovely, far better than what it was when you first bought it. I totally adore the colour scheme and the mattress appears super soft. Well done
What a gorgeous job! I wish my bed was that inviting Oh, if anyone wants this model of bed for their very own, it's a Kidkraft brand doll bed. (My 5 y/o cousin has Kidkraft furniture.)
It's been said before, but-- Wow great job! It's so much fun to have a few props to play with. Very inspirational!
The colours are amazing and the fabrics you chose are yummy! Heck, I want that bed to be MY bed lol. A total change from what you started with
