DollFest - Otakuthon 2012 August 3rd - August 5th Discussion

Let's get this party started!

 

I plan on going, Montreal is only a two hour drive for me I speak very very little french but I'm excited to see something that is fairly local.

 

@ Goldi Yayys! Don't worry most people there speak english, if just a little but it's a very friendly atmosphere! Are you planning to bring a doll with you?

 

I'm sort of excited about this.....I would love to enter a doll in the masquerade!!!!

Yeah It's going to be beautiful! I am putting the Masquerade Set together. I just wish I could enter! You guys will be excited once I reveal the prizes and TONS of freebies!

I don't know which doll to bring. I want to bring my YOSD but because of all the Masquerade items, my Cosplay, I think I'll have to bring a YOSD T_T

 

@acexkeikai Excited to see you again!! It's been far too long, this event should really be fun! How many dolls should we be bringing to this excluding the ones being painted?

 

@charmyc Great!! I'll definitely bring Tony He takes up no room what so ever ahha, I think ill also bring Taboo and Kris

 

I'd like to enter a tiny in the masquerade but I don't have a stand for her.....can I sit her on a cushion? Is that acceptable?

@ Dedjinn We will have a couple of chairs and suicases he can sit on top of, don't worry , everything will be very well arranged, there will be also volunteers keeping an eye out for the dolls and I will be there during the entire masquerade to keep an eye on, chit chat and of course, chill out with you guys!

I think I will bring my Wink Unoa. I'll be in Lolita and we will both have Pale Turquoise wigs lol omg.

Omg, I can't wait to hear what the prizes will be like, would I be allowed to participate? There aren't any themes besides the Cosplay category, are there?

Actually the Guest can enter, but since you are a judge, I think you might be allowed to only participate in one of the categories only, Public's Choice.

 

Oh! Thanks for finding out guys! I'll have to think about it, still not sure if ill participate, but it does sound like fun. It's too bad we didn't have this last year, I brought Sora all dressed up in Kingdom Hearts cosplay xD ahah

 

Urgh if only my robot boy would be ready!!!! I think it would be my piggy, or Jack, my realpuki with a pumpkin head that lights up.

Mind you....Jacks batteries probably wouldn't last all day ...

Really wish I could participate in the contests, the prizes are wayy too good.

 

I'm not sure if I'll be able to come a little bit, as my friends don't have dolls and we might walk around instead, but I'll bring my doll just in case! I just painted her eyebrows and made her news eyes for the occasion, and I might try to make her a yukata.

 

@Ophexis, come anyways!! Which doll are you gonna bring?

 

The only doll I have is the one I've sculpted, so this is the one I'll be bringing! ^^

 

I'll be there! This will most likely be my last Otakuthon convention since I have plans to move far far away (west coast). So really it might be my last meeting with you guys. I'll bring stuff for the swap and money for purchases. Can't resist doll clothes!

It's coming up so fast! I haven't prepared anything yet omg, gotta get cracking! Things have been so crazy XD

I did have the time last week but thought I'd have some this week but job called and I'm working 1 shift more then I was supposed to.... I'll have 1 night to prepare xP
My dolls are not even out of their boxes yet! I'm such a procrastinator XD

charmyc- Oh no! I was actually going to last-minute shop at Omers des serres for some new brushes just for the event. Mine are quite old and shabby and I'll have to throw them in the trash :[

Also, has the schedule been announced yet? It's coming up quickly and I'm not sure if I should be bringing a doll to work on Friday or not.

I won't be going tonight, still haven't prepared anything and have to go last minute paintbrush shopping This week has been too busy to even slow down (planning a vacation for next week too!).

I have lots of doll stuff to bring for the sale/trade on Sat and I'm sure my sisters do as well. So, I'll be going through that tonight also.

I really enjoyed everyone's presentation, so I want to congratulate you all on a job really well done. Be proud because you deserve it! Now I want to knit, sculpt and stop being such a wuss about tackling those blank heads and bring them to life.

And Duofan, thanks again for your hard work on the gifts. They were awesome gifts and I was really happy to see the smiles on people's faces as they realized 'OMG I just won a BJD!!!!'. I was overwhelmed by the awesum!

and Charmy, I saw how you were running around trying to make sure the show went on. No one would dare not listen to your 'Don't touch the dolls!'. Great job and thank you for saving my elfdoll head.

I wanted to also extend a special thank you to all those who participated in the faceup panel that my sisters and I hosted. I hope that it was an enjoyable experience and you were able to take some new tips home with you Everyone was so kind and eager to jump right into the painting, and that made it even more exciting! I could not believe that hardly any of the participants had ever painted a faceup before, there was a lot of talent being brought out!
Sam and I agreed that it would be fun if we could do this again and continue what we didn't get to demonstrate on our own time. If anyone would be interested in coming to a doll faceup meet, please pm Morbidollz or I and we could start planing another private faceup demonstration It would also be cool if we could take a trip before hand to Omers des Serres and purchase some supplies if needed, like essential brushes etc.

Glad to have met you all, I had a wonderful time! Hectic, but still wonderful! lol

If I may recommend instead of Omer is Currys. They are a Canadian store that helped artists back in the days by trading materials for paintings. They had a shop in St-Hubert but Omer drove the physical store out of business by opening up shop nearby. Let me know what you think:

I'm at work right now but I just wanted to thank you for everyone who participated in DollFest. I can't wait to go to sleep and probably edit some photos and write thank you e-mails to the sponsors.

I was glad to see everyone's faces, especially the ones who won the prizes and especially the turn out for the Doll Masquerade. A bit upset no one from the Blythe community showed up but oh well.

Good job orchestrating the event, guys. :3 It was definitely an experience I will remember.

I was pretty overwhelmed and anxious at first (it was a bigger turn-out than I expected!) but everyone was really sweet and made it a really comfortable environment to teach in. Thanks again to all of those who participated in the face-up demonstration, it reminded me of why I enjoy this hobby so much!
