DollAKon June 11&12 in Dallas, Tx

Nov 7, 2010

    1. Where is the announcement? All I could find were the entries! Wah! Pouts.

    2. Info in the top post and then the very last post, look for red text...or did Yuku once again eat my posts?

      Spoiler Alert?

      Why not...congrats to Vampire Smiley!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. 4/27 - Limited panel info has been released
Panels hosted by kiki-chan78, DollAKon's Special Presentor, are now listed at Yuku.

I've been talking with Marina, the organizer for the swap meet, she is interested in setting some times for doll owners to meet in the swap room. If she has set times, it will be easier for her to run a swap contest (with prizes) geared toward doll owners. I was thinking a morning time and then an afternoon time.

      Any suggestions?

    4. The Face-Up Workshop is full...we are now filling slots on the waiting list.

      DollAKon announcement thingy:
June 4/5 is the date for the final shopping trip to buy any supplies for DollAKon - if anyone has any Dolly Hospital/Workmeet requests we need those before May 21...I can dig up that thread if people want to know where to go place their requests. I'll also be shopping to round out the the prizes for contests, golden ticket, and the panel give away items - maybe pick up something to donate to the charity fundraiser as well. Maybe I should start a thread at Yuku for everyone to give me ideas on things to buy...I never know if the assumed cute things I find for give away items are actually found useful by the people who win them.

    5. Hey everybody! Those who want to donate photos for the DollAKon Brag Book Photo Frame, which will be on display throughout the convention, please post links to your pics at the following thread:

    6. I got the supply list for the faceup workshop finalized.

Now to start organizing the workmeet. Any suggestions on things you would like us to have available? The budget A-Kon has provided isn't huge, but it is enough we can cover basic dolly care and some minor repair stuff. We're open to suggestions, so let us know things you are interested in learning or having help with getting done during the workmeet.

Things on the list for sure:
restringing, hot-glue sueding, s-hook repair, inserting kips, basic cleaning, wig stoppers, simple finger and toe separation, ear piercing, gluing in magnets, replacing or inserting eyelashes, and then we will have supplies for jewelry making, temporary tattoos and sewing kits. We will have experienced owners available to help with all tasks. The workmeet is sponsored by A-Kon, so all supplies will be provided, but are limited.

    7. Is the workmeet different than the faceup workshop?

    8. Leadora - yes, they are 2 separate events. The workmeet is deep night on Saturday, starting by 11:30 pm and running until 2 am. We may get started sooner, just depends on how fast breakdown and reset goes after the Costume Contest. The faceup workshop is on Sunday (and reg is full, but we have a waiting list open).

The workmeet, called Dolly Hospital on the schedule, is basically what you would expect at a local workmeet. We will have supplies available and people to help with a lot of tasks. There are no fees for the workmeet - everything is provided by A-Kon or has been donated by DFW area doll owners.

I've had a few people ask about getting help during the day and what I'm telling them is if you can find an admin or panelist who isn't busy, there is a very small chance we can help w/simple tasks between panels.

    9. Awesome!! (Sorry it took so long for me to respond! ^^; ) I've never attempted hot-glue sueding and don't have a big enough crowd out here to work with and maybe this will help solve this! I can stay up as late as needed. ;) Hooray!

    10. Ledora - we'll have 2 workmeets.

Dolly Hospital on Saturday at 1:15 to 3:30 pm.
This session will have panelists working tables and assisting with tasks on a first-come-first-serve basis. The room will be limited access to available space at the tables. You have the option of watching them as they explain, or having them take you through the process 1:1.

The Open Work Session will be on Sunday 12:30 to 2:45 pm.
During this time, we can help with limited instructions, but it is more intended for people to help each other with tasks. We won't have as many free panelists to do 1:1 assistance since Sunday's session backs up with the Face-Up Workshop. The room will be open and people can come and go and the back part of the room will have chairs for those that just want to sit and visit.

Supplies will be available during both times, while they last. I've picked up several sizes of elastic and have kips, s-hooks and glue for the sueding. There will also be basic cleaning supplies like magic erasers and alcohol.

    11. The completed schedule for DollAKon 2011 has been posted at the Yuku Dollacon forum. Times and Topics subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances...but this is pretty much it!

I'm really excited at what we've been able to set up for everybody in the short time we've had to pull this together (we were only contacted in November after all!) We've had some amazing contributions from artists, vendors, and manufacturers and we'll be posting teaser pics at the Yuku site in the final two weeks before the Con.

    12. Just 1.5 more weeks! Yupee! I can't wait. Couldn't sleep last night planning dollie outfits I'm such a doofus and now I'm sleepy.

    13. LOL - I was up until nearly 2 am talking with our guest, Kiki-Chan78. Not only is she customizing the doll donated by JunkySpot for the charity fundraiser, but she is donating a smaller doll from her own collection. I'm really excited at all the cool things we'll have in the charity fundraiser.

ShadowMist: I like your new avatar and Tanial banner in the sig. Is he coming to DollAKon and A-Kon? I need some DOD snuggles and cuddles.

    14. Kyrenea that is so cool! I can't wait to see what they look like. I was telling my sister about the auction and I really like how you get to choose which prize you'd like to win. ^_^ And I'm already trying to see how many of the panels and things I can make it, too. Too bad I'm going to have to let my sisters choose some of the things we do otherwise I'd be only at dollacon.

and Thank you so much! I think he is. I was looking through some old photos trying to make a new sig pic because I was bored of the old one and... I just fell in love with him all over again. LOL. I really have taken more pictures of him than any one else. So its either him or we'll see how infatuated I get with my dollie who should be on his way as of today. But don't worry. He's a DOD as well. He's an M.Kailar. So we'll see who wins out in the end. Taniel or new baby. ^_^

    15. Hi - Is there a printable version of the Dollakon Schedule that is currently on Yuku? I totally forgot my password there too - so if you can post a link here - that would be great. I'm driving up from Houston, and would love to be able to plan my weekend time on the long drive there.

    16. Kozee - if you PM me your email address I can send you a PDF. The version posted at Yuku is not printer friendly. But it can be found here

    17. Dollacon/Yuku seems to be unavailable at the moment...

EDIT: Never mind - it just takes a while to load.

    18. I haven't had any load problems with Yuku except when at the library...but our modem lines have been extremely messed-up ever since the storms a few weeks back.

    19. If anyone has requests for panel topics or workshops for DollAKon 2012, be sure to post on the Yuku discussion boards. We will be using the Yuku boards to gather ideas and to post all announcements. That is also where we will be posting info for staff positions, panelist submissions, and volunteer oppurtunities.
