Aesthetics Doll Zone - Honey: Style Project

I’m waiting on a hopefully short wait for DZ Honey! She was in stock at BJDivas Which was so surprising since she’s been discontinued for a little while. I was so dang happy! I think she is just adorable Anyway I decided to make her a whole project journal to record my ideas and inspiration! And then to journal my progress with putting her outfit and faceup together. To start here is a collage of company photos:

I love her chunky legs! And those ears Her fullset is so pretty! Anyone who has it is very lucky!

So maybe it’s just me, but I find red hair to be so magical! Red headed fairies just make sense to me. I found a Leekworld wig with big curly poof that I think will be perfect for her character! For eyes I came across this flower iris pair on Etsy. I was torn between green and pink, but I think the green will look so beautiful with her wig color. I know, not the most original combo lol but I love it! I’ll order the eye after she arrives since I’m not sure what size I’ll be needing. I want to measure her myself first

 

The next thing I did was look for outfit inspiration. I was inspired by ballet costumes. I love ballet and I want to challenge myself to sewing more ballet themes bjd outfits. Here are my two main inspirations I found on Pinterest:

I’m hoping to find fabrics similar to the photo on the left. But in pink! I have a few pink ribbon roses I want to use on this project. And some purple beads I want to incorporate somewhere. Plus just lots of ribbon and lace to use. I want her to have shabby chic vibe. Lots of layers on the tutu. But of course I have to keep in mind the scale. I’ll have to collect up my notions and take a trip to the craft store!

 

I gathered some of the ribbons and decorations I already have in my stash. Luckily I already have plenty of pink tulle for the tutu! Really I just need to get the fabric for the bodice and accent fabric for the tutu. I’m getting so antsy to receive her! I want to start sewing for her

 

One trip to two craft stores later lol I found so many cute bits and bobs for her outfit. Plus I can use them for other dolls later

I am a sucker for ribbons! I have gallon sized ziplock full of them I use ribbons and lace ribbon almost every time I sew lol

And her wig fits great! I’m excited to order her eyes and starting making her outfit!

 

I started by adjusting a minifee pattern to better fit Honey. This first draft didn’t work out but I forgot the take a pic of the second one. It looks mostly the same.

The finished piece! I ironed on fusible interfacing to be like a lining. I didn’t want to make a real lining so the piece won’t be too thick

I went in a different direction for the skirt. My first was scrapped cuz it wasn’t what I wanted for her look.

The skirt is still in progress! I’m so happy with how it’s forming. I still have to fill out the back. Then I will string some beads to add to the chaos! She’ll be my shabby chic pixie!

 

I decorated the bodice then hand sewed it to the skirt. I’m very excited! I just need to attach some hooks in the back! After the main dress is complete, I will work on the accessories

I didn’t have a lot of time to work on her today since it was ballet day. (Btw I highly recommend joining an adult ballet class! Mine is so fun and casual, yet still informative. I’m learning so much!) However I did finish making her armbands and headband. The headband is actually sewn to her wig so it will always stay in place. I also sewed snaps to the back of the dress. Which is actually a big deal for me I usually put off adding the closure. I just need to whip up a little necklace and her outfit is complete!! Then it’ll be faceup time!

 

As she is now! I braided her hair cuz it was obscuring her wings. Not sure if she will keep her hair back or not. I’ll decide later. If it weren’t raining I’d be doing her faceup! Also on the list is painting her wings and antennas. But first I gotta look up paintings techniques!

 

Thank you!! My fav part was adding the strings of pearl beads. So easy, but visually makes the dress more interesting!

For even eyebrows and lashes I'll turn the head upside down and see if it looks different at that angle. Sometimes I'll hold it up to a mirror if I can't figure out why it's looking off! Then I remind myself eyebrows are sisters not twins I used to watch a lot of makeup tutorials on youtube as a teen, and I think that helps tbh!

I bought her some green eyes with flowers on the iris! I'm very excited cuz I think they will looks so pretty aganist her red hair!
