Modification Doll Piercings: How to pierce ears, lips, bellybuttons etc.

Sep 11, 2004

    1. I want to pierce my DollnDoll Loren's ears, even bought a tool from Dollmore to do it, but I'm just too chicken to try. I'm afraid of cracking the resin of her ears.

    2. Krissy--How big is the doll? I have an MSD whose ears were pierced by comicbookartistboi and they are fine. My friend has a Bobobie Erin whose ears were pierced by the same person at the same time, and one of her ears cracked off at the piercing. So as long as there's enough to hold it up, you should be all right. But if in doubt, send it away or show up at a con where someone with the technical know-how is. :)

    3. LMAO thanks for the ideas. And I am wondering how discreet I can be about going into the hardware store to try to find miniature chain to hang on a miniature canopy bed lol shhhh
I am pondering lip and eyebrow piercings. I am sure whenever I get around to doing them, I will post pictures somewhere :) Thanks again.

    4. i may or may not do a piercing on my doll (once i save the money to get and i have it) thinking of ways to customize it.:)

    5. Effigy, your dolls are gorgeous! *squee*

    6. effigy I love your dolls :) and they have some of the same piercings I have, at the top of the ear :) lol
Thanks for posting that. I am definitely going to pierce my girl's ears.

    7. I saw some gauges, snakebites, and other piercings on dolls and I really wanna know how to get some!

    8. Ah, woops. e_e''
      Thank you!

    9. I am so glad that a friend of mine turned me onto this site because without it, I would be totally lost. This thread is going to help me alot.

    10. Well I'm glad to hear you are finding things around here! I joined around the same time as you I guess. Both of our little boxes to the left there say March 2010 :)
I still have a bit of a hard time finding some stuff, but people here are great and very helpful.
Do you have a doll yet? if so which one? and if not, which one(s) are you interested in just out of curiosity?
I have no-one... still waiting for delivery of my very first one, but I'm not even "on shipping" yet :( boo

    11. Does anyone know how to make an industrial piercing? o:
I want one of my future boys to have it :D

    12. The way I did my boy's was to take some jewellery wire, cut a piece to fit in each ear and glue it in place. Then I cut some small shot bead and glued it to where the balls on either end of the bar would sit on his ears. that's the easiest way to do it, AFAIK, and they look pretty good
      [IMG]

    13. Your method is exactly what I was going to recommend even though I have not attempted it myself.

Drilling holes would be terribly risky to the integrity of thin upper ear parts and would likely split the top of the ear right off.
      Go with Hominivorax'x way. ^___^

    14. i had someone suggest to me to use the small beads used for nail deco as studs for my doll. would those work? I think my mom suggested it cause i was talking about finding small beads without holes in them.

    15. Yep, those will work, too. They also have the advantage of being available in different colours. They go on just like shot bead-a dab of glue. You'd need a small size which might vary depending on the doll. I find that 2-3 mm generally works for both SDs and MSDs. (A LOT of my crew are pierced, so I've tried multiple sizes. IMO, that's the size range that usually looks best.)

    16. I haven't read every last post on this thread so this question may have already been asked, but is there any way to pierce a dolls hips?

Or is gluing the only safe option where that's concerned?

    17. where would one find jump rings and nail deco beads? Like, what kinds of stores should I look for?

    18. Gluing is not the only safe option,Sigh-Ren, but maybe the easiest. You could drill through or partially through the hip area and possibly use post earrings with small round ends (the kind shaped like balls, or pearls, or whatever you want to use) and glue them in the holes to make a more permanent mod. A pin vise or very thin drill bit would be what you'd want for making holes if you decide on a permanent piercing. IT's honestly not something that's terribly difficult, you'd just have to exercise a little care in doing it.

@CaolanAisling: Jump rings can be purchased at stores that sell jewelery supplies, and nail deco beads will probably be at beauty supply stores. I also know of ebay stores that sell them.

    19. I have seen jump rings at Walmart and at Fabricland.

    20. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?388402-Real-Ear-Piercing-Tutorial

My tutorial on how I used a drill and a sewing pin to pierce my boy's ears. ^_^ Really, I would NOT use a giant industrial drill to do ANYTHING to my doll. The drill I used was a basic drill that ran on AA batteries, so it wasn't super powerful. It actually ran very slowly (because I think the batteries were running down) so I had more than enough control. ^_^

    21. Holy crud, how did I miss Effigy's amazing post of awesome info until now? I googled 'nail charms' and instantly found a great website with just about everything I'd wanted for doll jewelry in the proper scale. \o/ Tiny sized jewelry for piercings and pendants are really hard to find.

On the jump rings, you can usually find them with jewelry supplies at places like Beadworks, Michaels and the like. You can also make your own with wire and round nosed pliers.

    22. How do you do belly button piercings?
Also for those of you who have used glue instead of making holes how do you remove the piercing?

    23. *subscribes for later use*

    24. How strong is elmers glue? I have a boy coming in and I want him to have snakebites.

    25. Same way as all the others, if you're doing it with glue. Figure out where you want the piercing to sit and just glue whatever you're using as the jewelry (tiny shot bead or nail art deco beads) in place with either elmer's glue or tacky glue (which has a bit better hold and is a little more durable).
To remove a piercing done with elmer's glue or tacky glue, you can just use a bit of warm water to get the glue to dissolve and remove it. If the area isn't blushed and doesn't have any sealant on it, you could also just pop it off and the dried glue should come with it. If the area IS blushed or sealed, using water is a better idea. Just popping off the piercing in a blushed or sealed area will more than likely take the sealant with it, which is a bad thing. (obviously. XP)

It's got a decent amount of hold and it should hold up fairly well, provided you don't put constant stress on it. (That is, as long as you're not always pulling things over his face.) Rings might be a little more delicate than studs, but as long as you've got a good little drop holding them on, elmers glue is pretty strong.

    26. Thanks Hominivorax. I can't wait to try this out on my future boy.

    27. Zeta25, I did a bellybutton piercing by making a hole just above the bellybutton. I tried using glue first, but my boy's clothes made it pop off. The resin is just thin enough to let me put the back on the earring I used, so it's not too hard to change out if I like. It has the look of navel jewelry with the dangley bit at the top.

    28. I Did Not Read Every Post So I Hope This Has Not Been Answered!
How do you give you doll a septum piercing?

    29. Glue. Jump ring. Wire cutters. Thats how I did my dolls. Just glue in place.

    30. My boy has snake bites, but they are drilled into his face, I use elmers glue to keep the jump rings in the holes (cause they wiggle around and fall out), I had one set last a year and a half. I only changed them a week ago because they were tarnished from people touching the rings.

    31. i am so glade this thread was started it has been most helpful.

    32. Snakebites? Picture please. I don't know all the names of piercings, so this one sounds interesting.

    33. I second that :D

    34. Snake Bites are hoops or studs in the Lower Lip.
They can be very sexy on a doll with a very full bottom lip.
      Let Leviathan show you this:
((Leviathan is owned by Highpreistessice. Every now and then, I get to play with him! X3))
((Hes wearing a most sexy handmade PVC Straight-Jacket))

      I just realized:
      He has:
      - A Septum Peircing
-A nasal Bridge (Studs on the bridge of his nose)
      -A Marilyn Munroe Peircing
      -A Labret (Lip-chin ring)
      -Snake Bites
      -Nipple Rings.

      EDIT: Also, Hip/Sex-Line Peircings!
*Points to the Studs near his hips*

      He also has......ah.....Intimate..Peircings.....
      =-_-=

    35. Nice!!!! He's cute, too. Very sexy boy :D

    36. Now see, I need to do that with Sorral. He has piercings, but I am afraid to do it. I've done his ears, but that's it. Who does these sorts of piercings? He has holes in his nipples for piercing but he needs so much more than his ears and nipples.

    37. [IMG]
      snakebites

anyone can do them, it helps to have a drill press and some very small drill bits.

    38. Ah. I wanted one of those when I was younger, but unfortunately I never had the courage to pierce my face :D That and my mom would have freaked even though I was an adult already :D
maybe I should do some piercings on some of my resin kids :D
      Thanks for posting that!

    39. if you dont want anything permanant or dont wanna drill you could use tacky glue or elmers glue

    40. Has anyone done a nose peircing on their dolls before, what type of tools did you need, which sizes. Any other tips anyone can give me?

      Thanks!

    41. most people who want their doll to have a nose piercing uses white school glue, to glue on a little bead or a ring.
theres a few tuts around if you use the search feature

    42. Everyone who I've seen with a 'piercing' on their doll's nose has usesd a little bitty metal stud or a metal loop, cut off part of the loop (if they used that) and glued it on. It's not a true piercing.

    43. I've "pierced" two of my dolls noses and used the same method as told above. You just need some tacky glue and either a small stud/jump ring/gem then you stick it on the nose and wait for it to dry. Most people (me included) who use the jump ring will cut it in half before gluing!
I've done the same method with snakebites, eyebrow and nipple on my boy!

    44. Agreed, just cut a tiny jump ring or whatever and glue it on with white glue - I use Aleene's Tacky Glue, usually the "quick grab" kind but regular works fine too. As for tools, wire cutters for the jump ring, a file (I usually file the edges of the ring so they're not sharp and scratchy), and tweezers. Maybe a toothpick to wipe off any extra glue that bulges out around the piercing once it's on, also.

    45. hi, i agree most just glue on a nose ring or stone to look like a stud and its a simple process which looks good.

for me though, as i have a nose stud, i wanted a true hole and ring in my dolls nose so i used a tiny drill bit which was glued into a top to make it like a handle. i then by hand worked carefully through the nose and up the nostral area until a hole was achieved then put in a ring. i completed this method on sd size and msd size. you just need to take your time and go careful.

it depends on the look you want to achieve as a hole is always going to be there but with the gule method the ring / stud can be removed if you use pva or waterbased glue.

    46. Maybe my problem is the glue I'm using *comes out of nowhere to borrow thread* I've tried Tacky Glue...it just doesn't dry fast enough! Everything falls off before the glue dries. I'll have to try this Quick Grab stuff.

How resilient are the glued piercings? I tend to handle my dolls a bit and I don't want to be redoing them every few minutes.

    47. you can put a small dab of glue on let it set a bit and then stick it and hold it until it drys. also i dunno if tacky glue is the same as pva/school/white glue that everyone recomends. as someone mentioned you want a watrerbased glue if you wanan remove the glue without the faceup.

it can be easy to hit/knock off rings by accident but it only takes a couple mins to put it back on. just be careful about handling your doll where you know it has piercings. its like avoiding touching your dolls nose/chin so you don't rub off the sealer/blushing

    48. Thanks for all the tips guys, :) Do you find it falls off when you're re-dressing you doll though?
I have some dolls with earring stuck on and sometimes they come off when I remove their jumpers. Is it just a case of having to be super, super careful?

    49. well if you want to avoid the risk at all take your dolls head off when you have to slip something over the head to dress/undress them

    50. Thanks all!

    51. I've only ever had eyebrow rings glued on come off when a doll was dropped (this is a doll with something along the lines of 8 facial "piercings") but I always take heads off when dressing them because MNF heads are bloody huge.
I've always just kind propped a head in place so gravity would hold it in place and hold the ring downward while the glue dried, no real problems with things moving around. I also place and nudge with tweezers. Which get tacky themselves but never unmanageable.

    52. I was wondering, I saw a bunch of dolls with piercings...what is the best way to do it? Is there a way to give them a piercing without damaging the doll?

    53. magnetic piercing or something!

    54. A lot of people use a pin vise to actually manually drill into the ear. I plan to do this, myself. You can find them at hardware stores, and on Amazon. I haven't bought one, yet, but I'm going to get one from the store, as opposed to buying one online. I just want to get a good in-person look and feel of it before purchasing it. Also, if I could get a demonstration in the store, I'd feel better about it.

    55. A lot of people also use stick-on or glue on piercings, like ball bearings or little stick on metal dots. If you use white glue, you can put them on and they will stay on nicely, but can be removed with warm soapy water with no damage to the doll - or faceups, for that matter.

    56. As Sparrow said, most of the piercings you've seen are probably glued on! Not super-glue though. Glues like elmer's glue which is non-permanent, and can be easily removed by water! If you want a more permanent piercing, drilling is the way to go!

    57. I've done several piercings using a hand-operated drill. (Not the powered kind!) Jump rings bought at a craft store make great temporary piercings, but I kept knocking them off of Hireki and it was driving me batty, so I drilled three holes in his elf ears and it's worked great for me. I drilled Tsu's ears as well and will do Lapis's later. :)
