Doll North is only a few months away! It's time to get together here in this thread, share the excitement and discuss our plans as we countdown the days until the convention XD
So who's going, which dates and what are you looking forward to?

P.S. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to host a panel and/or took the time to fill out our Doll Family Feud survey!

    2. I'm so excited! I've been eyeing for this thread to pop up. :) Especially since Angeltoast will be there~ She did beautifulwork on my Bory head I bought from her, and I planned on bringing all 4 versions Luts offers of their Bory sculpt. By far always my best weekend of the year!

    3. I'll be there and participating in my first doll masquerade. Hope my idea works out :sweat

    4. I'll be going for my very first Doll North & first doll convention ever!

And I'll also be participating in my first doll masquerade (if everything goes according to plan). :D

    5. Updated the original post with information on our 2018 programming, Doll North is looking for attendees interested in hosting panels so please email [email protected] by the deadline of April 1st 2018 @ 12:00AM EST. If you have an idea but are looking for someone to host with you, feel free to use this thread to find like minded individuals that might want to help out ^^'

@Fate I'm happy that you're so excited for both the convention and our guest AngelToast, she does do amazing work!

@nanachan Good luck with entering your first doll masquerade, I hope your idea works out as well!

@PumpkinKings Your very first Doll North, how exciting! I hope you are able to participate in the doll masquerade as planned.

    6. Omg last year's Doll North is where I and my partner stumbled into this community and took in Angelica :love
I'm so thrilled to come to this event with a much better understanding of dolls and the range of customization!
I've been away from the site for a little while, I only meant it to be 2 months but time flies when you're working overtime, I'm really excited to see everyone and show off my little girl and spoil her with outfits and props :chibi and to properly meet a lot of you friends!! You've all taught me so much and I'm so grateful to have found this hobby :)

I'm going for the whole weekend, tempted to dress Angelica in cosplay or matching me and hold off on the Masquerade since I only have a small wardrobe so far, anyone else here a cosplayer?

    7. I'm a cosplayer @hanna-navigator ! (:

At a convention I went to a couple months ago I cosplayed Sailor Moon with one of my dolls dressed in a Luna-inspired outfit.
Ive since sold that doll, but I intend to make matching costumes with other dolls in the future. :3c

    8. My husband, mom and I will be going to Doll North! It’s our first time to the convention but we’ve been to other cons like DollAKon/A-Kon down in Texas. My husband’s mostly going for the anime convention while I’m going for both sides of the con. ;)

We’re also bringing my mom’s cousin with us because she wants to find her first doll there! I’m super excited to help her get started in the hobby.

    9. How do I sign up for Angeltoasts faceup workshop??

    10. Workshop Registration will be opening soon, be sure to follow Doll North on Facebook to be notified when workshop registration opens. @wildmusings will most likely update this thread when workshop registration opens too :)

    11. Is there going to be a wig making workshop again this year? I'd be very interested in attending that although I have the sneaking suspicion it'll probably interfere with the timing of the event I'm part of *sigh*.

I'm excited to see Angel Toast as she's painted about a dozen of my boys.

    12. I’ll see everyone there again this year! Entering the masq this year and got a good chunk finished. So excited for the doll events again this year! ^_^

    13. How exciting! I hope things go great for you!

    14. My first year going, I'm coming from across the boarder. Only about a 2 hour drive, I'm still deciding what day I want to go, I probably will only go one day. I wish they had a list of vendors that will be there. I'm excited!!!

    15. The post has been updated with a link to a survey for our newest game Doll Family Feud! We'd really appreciate it if you could take the time to fill it out, whether you are actually attending Doll North or just a ball jointed doll enthusiast that happened upon this thread, thanks in advance.

@hanna-navigator I'm glad you found our convention and stumbled into the hobby community, hope that you have an amazing time attending for your second year. As for cosplay, I love when people dress up with their dolls, if you and @PumpkinKings are able to do so.

@ShadowedForce It's great that you will be able to attend Anime/Doll North for the first time, hope you all enjoy yourselves! Also best of luck finding your mom's cousin their first doll at our market.

@SaturnRose thanks for answering @Daiyanissa question, I've edited the post to better clarify that section and will definitely update once workshop registrations open up.

@Iron_Dog workshops have not been announced yet, but I will definitely update this thread once there is more information about them! I'm glad you're excited to have AngelToast as our guest though.

@Sirius53Black Nice that you're looking forward to seeing everyone and the events! Best of luck finishing the rest of your masquerade entry too.

@Glitt3rGalaxy Safe travels across the border then, happy that you are excited for the convention! A list of vendors will be posted before hand and I will update this thread with a link to the information when that time comes.

    16. Super Excited!! Such as sinch I am a BJD proxy seller, I will be thinking on sell here now

    17. Panelist application deadline is extended until April 15th @ 12:00AM EST! :D

    18. I've updated the original post with the extended deadline @moonlitparadox, thanks for the information.

@71yiqi that's cool, please do check out our vendor registration then!

    19. KK《 I will check on it cause I do not have any in stock right now

    20. So excited to be coming to Anime/Doll North for the first time this year! We will be flying in from NY and it will be our first time in the city of Toronto!
My sister and I are both working on Masquerade outfits for our dolls. This is the most fun I have had leading UP to a convention!!

    21. Thank you to everyone that has taken the time to fill out the Doll Family Feud survey so far. When I last checked we had 87 responses, which is really amazing and appreciated! If you haven't had a chance to complete it yet, you have until Sunday, April 1st at 11:59PM to do so. Maybe we can reach 100?

@71yiqi ok, well best wishes if you do end up with enough stock for a table then ^^'

@Sailormoon22491 that does sound exciting for both you and your sister XD I'm glad you're having fun working on your masquerade entries as well, good luck with them!

    22. The post has been updated with information about our Photography Contest and Face-Up Speed Challenge, so be sure to check them both out! Also just a reminder that you have until Sunday, April 15th at 12:00AM EST to volunteer to host a panel at Doll North, please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in sharing your passion!

    23. It's me again ^^' I've just updated the post with our very special guest of honour, ball-jointed doll creator: Cocoriang (Su Jung Kim)! Is everyone excited to meet her and have a chance to admire (maybe even purchase one of) her adorable dolls in person? I know I am XD

Also last reminder that you have until this Sunday night to email [email protected] and sign-up to host a panel at Doll North, we'd be happy to have you!

    24. I'm so excited! This is always my favorite time of the yeaaaar!!

    25. Me toooo! I want it to hurry up and get here, but at the same time don't so that I have more time to work on things and because the sooner it's here, the sooner it's over with. :(

But let's keep the discussion going; who is everyone bringing?

I'll be bringing my Minifee Kai and if I can get him sorted in time, my Pukifee Frozen.

    26. The post has been updated with information about our Workshops, but at the time of this comment a very limited number of spots (1-2 each) are available so please don't delay in registering!

@Fate & @Squeek of the North I'm glad you are both excited, this convention is something I really look forward to as well! I hear you though, as much as I want it to be next weekend, there is still work left to do so I'm grateful it's a month away XD

I usually bring all of my dolls because I'm indecisive and like to have them available for the market... but luckily I only have four BJDs and two fashion dolls, most of which are tinies so it's a bit more manageable, though it will definitely be easier this year now that I have a larger carrying bag. They spend most of the weekend either chilling at the staff display table or with me in the panel room as I host games ^^'

    27. I'm glad to hear that other people are bringing their dolls, I think I will be bringing two, not sure yet which ones. Depends on which I have completed by that time. I was advised against it in another posts, that no one really cares to see your dolls :( I know I want to see people dolls in person! I'm super excited and I think it will be easier to pick things out for them this way. I can't wait to see all the vendors, I've been trying to find out who has been there in the past, so I know what to expect, but haven't been having any luck with that.

    28. @Glitt3rGalaxy I'm really sorry someone told you no one would care to see your dolls at Doll North, from what we have seen that's really not the case! It's important to keep in mind that you have to be responsible for your own belongings (and dolls) so we encourage con-goers to only bring to the events what they are confident they can handle carrying with them. A lot of our con-goers stay in the Crowne Plaza hotel and bring a number of dolls to their hotel room and choose to switch out the doll they carry with them each day so each doll can get a little exposure. Another great way to show off your dolls is to enter them in the competitions, or bring them with you when you participate in Doll North games, especially Project Runway where your doll would be center stage :)

We also set up photo displays where you can photograph your dolls which would go to waste if your dolls stayed behind.

We will be making some big updates to the website and social media websites soon including vendors for this year. We apologize for the delay the Anime North webmaster is busier than normal so our updates are taking a little longer, and a lot of our staff volunteers are balancing work and Doll North so we give the event as much of our free time as we can spare.

There will not be a lot of official BJD companies in attendance selling new BJDs (but there will be a few such as COCORIANG and Peachydaydreams), there are always a lot of artisan vendors with handmade clothing, props and wigs for dolls, and there area always a lot of second-hand trades and sales of dolls from our yard sale vendors and at the swap meet on Saturday night. I am sure you will find lots that interests you for sale, more vendor information for 2018 will be available soon.

    29. Will the bjd bingo game be returning this year? Had so much fun at last year's bingo.

    30. @SaturnRose thank you so much for your response. I definitely have a better idea of what to expect!

    31. @Glitt3rGalaxy Definitely bring some dolls! That's the biggest part of the convention. :P I'm not sure of the line up this year, but they usually have a meet and greet among so many other things fo ryou to do WITH your doll!

    32. I bring dolls with me every year. I have some unusual/lesser seen sculpts that I'll bring so people can see some of these dolls. I'm not sure who's coming this year though. I might bring some of my 50-ish cm guys just because they're much easier to transport than my big SD's.

    33. For anyone participating in the Masquerade, information about the reference component and samples of the tri-fold brochures are now available on the website. Be sure to check it out!

@Glitt3rGalaxy as others have said before me, there are many things to do with your doll at this convention and lots of attendees love seeing other people's dolls there, myself included! You should definitely bring one to Momiji's Meet & Greet (as @Fate mentioned), it's a social activity where everyone introduces and answers ice breaker questions about their chosen doll, I think it will be right up your alley ^^'

@AngelicLuka I'm glad to hear you enjoyed playing BJD Bingo <3 The schedule hasn't been finalized yet, but as of right now that game won't be returning this year, though we will have some new ones (as well as some old favourites) so I'm sure there will be something for everyone! I'll update this thread once the schedule is posted.

@Iron_Dog I love when people bring different sculpts so that I can see them in person, it's really interesting having such a variety to admire XD

      • x 2
    34. Still not sure who to bring. I'm leaning to an FID and Soom ID51 couple but my other Soom ID51 and his partner, an SD Vito is tempting, too. I'm making real headway on metal leafing my Iple Miguel the Demon Hunter and his partner is a Unidoll Ark, so both are rarely seen dolls. Decisions, decisions.

    35. @wildmusings Oh that sounds fun! I'd love to check that out!

    36. So happy its going on year 2 ! Went last year, so excited to go again. See you all there :)

    37. Eeeee! Just bought my ticket to AN and Angeltoasts faceup workshop!! Its the most wonderful time of the year!!

    38. The post has been updated with information about our new Twinning Challenge for 2018, so start planning out those matching coordinates with your doll <3

Also wow it's already May, when did that happen? Doll North will be upon us soon, I wish everyone best of luck with their final preparations XD

@Iron_Dog Decisions are hard! I look forward to seeing whomever you decide to bring then ^^'

@Glitt3rGalaxy Hope to see you there!

@Gumdrop001 Glad you will be able to return for a second year!

@Daiyanissa Wonderful that you can attend the convention and participate in AngelToast's workshop *starts singing Christmas carols*

    39. Final preparations?! -sweats it out- You mean beginning riiight?! Ohdear.
here I am procrastinating again. Lol

    40. Another update has been made to the post, this time about our returning Selfie Challenge for 2018! Get those duck faces ready XD

@Fate As a fellow procrastinator, I feel your pain ^^'

    41. I keep telling myself everynight to get going BUT ... Well, I have some things done. Lol Just gotta get sewing -determined face-

Are we going to get a schedule available to us ahead of time to plan our con experience by chance?

    42. @Fate Officially we cannot release our schedule until the Anime North schedule is posted. If the Doll North visual program is ready early we will see if we can post it sooner. We'll always make that announcement on facebook and Instagram so be sure to follow us.

      • x 3
    43. The website has been updated with a list of some of our 2018 sponsors, scroll down to see them! Also ongoing announcements are being made about the items they have generously donated, please check #DNSponsor on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates instead so I don't have to spam you all here ^^'

@Fate You can do it! Now to get back to work on my own stuff XD And thanks @SaturnRose for answering their questions <3

    44. Wah I forgot to check for the PlaPico workshop and I missed the tickets ;w; Maybe some other time... But I guess I better bring my Ailendoll Ashes this year so I won't be left out of the dragon-having fun >w>

I really want to bring my Doll Chateau Xaviera but I have to travel via plane and she's my biggest and most delicate doll... I don't think it'd be wise, at least not until I can get a better carrying case for her. I want to make a bit of a custom one, maybe use my school's laser cutter to make a nice cushy foam core insert for a carrying case... Right now I just have what she came with which is a long pouch, I'm not suuper convinced it is very safe

    45. @AutumnWyvern Please do bring your PlaPico I have a feeling the event is going to be crawling with them this year, dragon party for all <3 And if you are looking to bring a new PlaPico home rumor has it more will be available for sale in the Doll Market :)

Flying on a plane with a doll definitely requires the proper precautions and you should do what makes you feel the most comfortable, and has the amount of risk that you're personally comfortable with. Xaviera is fairly small but she definitely has quite a few tiny parts which could be easily broken when put into tight spaces. I think most flights allow you to bring a personal item and a carry on so if you were able to get a secure enough small carry case for her I bet she could fit in either bag, I know I would freak out a little bit if I were checking a limited doll I wouldn't be able to replace :sweat. I took my soom cutie pie toad with me to Hawaii last year, they're quite tiny dolls and come with their own little fabric bean case so I'm really accustomed to slipping him into my purse or backpack (much like your plapico) since he's so tiny and easy to pack.

I wonder if with the way Xaviera can be folded up she would fit in a zippered fabric pencil case with some extra foam stuffing? I've seen a lot of doll owners retrofit pencil cases as carrying cases for smaller dolls. Regardless I'm looking forward to meeting the dolls who come with you, and who knows maybe you'll find a new one to take home <3

    46. @SaturnRose ah! I don't have a PlaPico I have one of the regular resin dragons, sorry if that was confusing! But I would not be opposed to picking up a PlaPico >w>

Yeah whenever I bring my dolls I make sure they travel via carry-on... yeah it's her spider legs and booty that are the issue, even when folded up she still ends up pretty wide... I'll see if I can figure some arrangement out...

    47. Will the bjd tea party be returning this year? I missed it last year.

      • x 1
    48. Does anyone have any requests for dollies to bring? I have my list in my profile. :) I can't promise anything, but as my original plans are changing, I need new ideas!

    49. BJD Tea Party is returning 8PM - 9PM Friday. Both AngeltToast and COCORIANG will be present to socialize with while you enjoy a snack of tea/coffee, sandwiches, and candies. Admission will be $5 at the door cash only.

    50. Last year my ride was a bit late so Friday was pretty much a wash but hopefully I'll be able to make it at a decent time and even go to the tea party~

    51. I was also late to the tea party! But I'm still hoping and planning to attend so can't wait. :)

    52. The Doll North 2018 Schedule is now available so that people can begin planning out their weekend! Looking forward to seeing everyone at the different events, what are you most excited about doing this year?

@AutumnWyvern Maybe your dragon family will still be able to grow then after all XD I wish you and your dolls safe travels!

@Fate You have such lovely dolls (and so many Luts!) I can imagine it will be difficult to choose who to bring, but it'll be nice to meet them all the same ^^'

@AngelicLuka Hopefully you (and the others) can make it to the tea party this year, good food and great company are always pleasant to enjoy <3

    53. I cant believe Anime North is now less than two weeks away... AHHHHH soo much still to do for my dolls masquerade outfit >.<

      • x 1
    54. I'll be going to doll north this year for the first time, as my first doll con! Ive been to a few panels and small meets at anime conventions, and a meet in my area, but im excited to see so many dolls in one place! Im pretty nervous/shy but i hope i can still make some friends

Im bringing my Souldoll Lev along with me, but will only have him for part of one of the days probably (Im a newbie and dont have a carrier for the poor kid). Im going with friends primarily for anime north, but will be trying my hardest to drop into doll north as often as i can over the weekend! If you see FE:H Spring Alfonse or VLD Keith carrying an MSD, thats me!

My main hope for next weekend is to expose myself to more SD dolls, since ive barely ever seen them in person i dont have a good idea of their actual size. Id love to get a Dollzone SD13 boy for my birthday this year (that B60-005 body is gorgeous!!!) but it would probably be smart for me to see and handle a doll that size before buying one, since im a little intimidated trying to imagine how big they are :''')

I cant wait to see everyones dolls! If i have a lot of fun i for sure will come back next year as well, ideally for the whole week from TCAF to Anime/Doll North. I hope everyones con crunch isnt as crazy as mine has been! See you all there!! :D

    55. There'll be a lot of different sizes of dolls there so I'm sure you'll see a bunch of SD's of multiple sizes. They can be a little intimidating at first but if you have your heart stolen by one, that'll wear off pretty fast.

    56. I've been trying to attend but Saturdays and Fridays are not good for me as I'm now running my own business and these are busy days. I will try and swing by if possible, may be on Sunday or Sat night/evening. I'd miss the fun on Sat. I see there are evening activities as well. I might bring Yo-SD Isao and Yo-Midi Reisner, just carry them in a small basket. I see Sadol is not in the vendors list. Sigh. Anyway, I can't make it for the market place on Sat and Sadol table is usually cleaned out by then.

    57. The list of this year's vendors and dealers have been updated on the website so you can start planning out your doll market budget accordingly ^^'

@Sailormoon22491 It really sneaks up on you, doesn't it? Good luck finishing your masquerade entry!

@theWK I hope you enjoy both Anime North and Doll North then, it should be a busy but fun weekend for you XD And as @Iron_Dog mentioned, doll conventions are definitely a great place to expose yourself to different BJD sizes in person... but don't be alarmed if you end up wanting to add one to your collection >.>

@stargazer_i Sorry to hear that work is making it difficult to attend the entire weekend, but yep there are lots of events scattered throughout the entire day, so hopefully you can still swing by Saturday evening/night or Sunday and enjoy yourself! Unfortunately Sadol can't join us this year, be sure to follow them on social media and let them know you'd like them to attend Doll North in the future though <3

    58. Annnnd just in case anybody was interested in the unusual, it appears that this year the dolls that I'll be bringing are:

Mkhai (Impl Miguel the Demon Hunter), Kathiel (Unidoll Ark), Nassano (Sugarble naga boy) & Dolf (Lume Light Blaze) and a Miro torso for possible head questing purposes although I really shouldn't.

My arms are going to be begging me for mercy because those SD boys are HEAVY.

    59. Yeah I totally just started sewing Monday .LOL
And I work 11 hours today.:[ I'm already feeling dead.
But that's okay! I'm right on track and hopefully will be doing detailing Sunday and with smooth sail through next week! :D

    60. I noticed I'm listed twice on the vendor's list lol. Anyway, I can't wait to see everyone and their dolls this weekend~ Please feel free to stop by my table on Saturday and show me your dolls, I'm always happy to see them! Takehiko, my sugarable naga will be with me at the very least but i'm bringing my full doll family again this year.
