Thank you to everyone who helped make Doll North 2012 an amazing event. Due to our growing attendance numbers Doll North 2013 will be expanding! Below you will find information on our new space and updates on our programming as Anime North 2013 draws near.

Many popular events will be returning this year along with new additions to our programming! The Doll North 2013 Theme Competition, BJD Project Runway, Face Up Workshop, an improved and extended hours Doll Market. As well as new panels and workshops to expand on your Doll North 2013 experience.

Anime North 2013 is being hosted at the Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road and at the Double Tree international Plaza Hotel, 655 Dixon Rd. (directly across the street). Additional Anime North 2013 Programming will be hosted at Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel 801 Dixon Road and the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel 33 Carlson Court.

All Doll North 2013 Programming will be hosted at the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel in the Ballroom.

There will be frequent shuttle bus service between the Toronto Congress Centre and the Sheraton Airport Hotel which is across the road from the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel. Please watch for further details as they become available about this service.

Tickets

To attend any Doll North 2013 Programming you must purchase an Anime North 2013 Pass. All persons in attendance at Doll North Events will be required to be wearing their Anime North 2013 badges at all times. In order to redeem any prize won at Doll North a valid Non-Staff badge must be presented (Guest, Featured Guest, Exhibitor, Dealer, General Day and Weekend Admission are all valid.) Doll North reserves the right to withhold and redistribute any prize won by an individual who cannot present a valid pass.

At Doll North 2013 we would like to offer the BJD enthusiasts attending a chance to have accurate information about active BJD communities that are both local and international.

We are happy to feature any community that would like to be a part of Doll North. Your community has the option of making a donation to our event, advertising at our event, or attending our event as a representative for your community. Come out and shop in our market devoted to all things doll. Official Asian Ball-Jointed Doll retailers will be present, as well as many artisans stocking items for Ball-Jointed Doll, Vinyl (Obitsu and Dollfie Dream), Pullips, Blythes, and Monster High dolls.
Doll Market is a fun and fast paced event with a very large crowd each year. We would like to make the experience safe and fair for both attendees and vendors. Please understand that only individuals registered as Doll Market vendors, are permitted to sell items at this event. Those who do not comply will be asked to leave out of courtesy to our vendors who have paid for this opportunity.

What to Sell?

Any item intended for use with BJD, Pullip, Blythe, Dollfie Dream, Momoko, and Monster High dolls are acceptable for sale. Brand new, hand made, and second-hand company made items are welcome as well. Acceptable items include: Clothing, Eyes, Wigs, Shoes, Re-ment, Doll Heads, Doll Parts, and Complete Dolls. Face Up Artists

There will be a limited number of tables available for Face Up Artists who would like to take commissions to paint heads at the event. You will be responsible for bringing your own supplies and setting up your own commission system for your clients. Limited lighting may be available. We will make power outlets available for lighting if you choose to bring your own lamp.

Important Vendor Information

• Table size 6’ x 2.5’
• Only applications for full tables will be requested. You may split your table, but only submit ONE application. The applicant will liable for the table, and responsible for dividing the table space. You are welcome to include sign up information for both partners on the application.
• You are responsible for your own table, stock, and change float at all times.
• Each table will be provided with two chairs. There are to at most two people behind a table at any given time. If you sign up for a table, do not have more than two people acting as vendors at any given time.
• Doll Market will be secured each evening. If you have booked space for more than one day you may leave your inventory set up. Please note, while we have limited the number of keyholders to this space, we cannot control the acts of the Crowne Plaza hotel staff. Doll North cannot be held liable for inventory left unattended.
• There will be time for dealers to access the market before and after normal operational hours for setup and takedown. Taking advantage of this time is not mandatory. You are welcome to set up and take down anytime within your assigned time slot as needed.

Doll Masquerade

Rules

• Each participant is restricted to ONE entry
• Each entrant must have a valid Anime North badge, valid bades include General Day and Weekend Admissions, Exhibitor, and Dealer passes.
• Each entry will be judged on Display, Presentation, and Documentation by our judges. (Please see below for details)
• All entries will be automatically entered in the Fan Favourite competition.
• To qualify your entry must reflect a title developed or published by Square Enix.

Please note: Anime North and Doll North ask that out of respect for the doll artisans, distributors and sculptors that continue to support our event that recasts are not entered in the Doll Masquerade competition. Recast dolls identified in the Doll Masquerade will be disqualified.

Judging

Display
The Display Component is worth 70%

Outfit: Outfit components can be handmade or purchased, greater points will be awarded to entrants that have hand crafted their outfits. Pattern-making is not being judged, but you will be awarded additional points for pattern-making if you have provided proof in the Documentation component. You will be judged based on workmanship, execution, and adherence to the overall theme.

Accessories: Items not expected to be handcrafted such as wigs, shoes, eyes, hardware, and belts will be judged for their adherence to the theme, material and how well they incorporate with the entire outfit.

Props: Points can also be earned for prop creation when applicable to the theme material, only props that have been handmade will impact the Display Component.

Face Up: Additional points will be awarded to dolls with customised face ups to match their inspiration.

Presentation
The Presentation Component is worth 20%.

You may have a maximum of 3 dolls in your presentation. The 3 dolls must be displayed as a group and will be judged together.

You will be judged on posing and how your doll(s) are displayed, does the presentation tell a story or reflect the desired theme?

Are your dolls ‘in character’ have you included any additional items to set a scene? We ask that you keep these items within reason. Your presentation space is restricted to 2 feet.

Documentation
The Documentation Component is worth 10%

Your are expected to bring a photo reference of your theme inspiration.

Additional points will be awarded to entrants that share development details on their entry. An example would be a “Work In Progress” portfolio documenting steps in your creation progress with photos, patterns, and fabric swatches. We will also accept link submissions of this portfolio (be it a forum thread on DoA, tumblr, or blog). We must receive a link to these threads by Monday May 20, 2013 so judges have time to review it before the event.

Fan Favourite
Attendees will be given a ballot and asked to write down the entry number for their favourite entry, ballots will be tallied at the end of the competition and winner announced.

Judges
Will consist of esteemed individuals of notable standing in the doll community, judges will be announced at the event to avoid favoritism or tampering.

Registration
Registration can be submitted online prior to the event, or on site anytime up until 2 hours prior to the start of the competition at the Doll North greeting table.

You will be provided with an entry number and will be asked to arrange your entry on one of the display tables. Judges and attendees will walk around the room to review the work and discuss your entries.

Parabox Sponsored Face Up Competition

New to Doll North 2013 and thanks to the continued support of Parabox ( http://parabox.jp/eng_new/ ) is the Parabox Sponsored Face Up Competition. Entrants will pre-register for this competition and receive a random Parabox 1/3 scale vinyl head which is theirs to keep! We hope you will be excited to show Doll North fans and Parabox your creativity!

Theme: Fantasy

Rules

Each participant is restricted to ONE entry in the Parabox Face Up Competition.

Each entrant must have a valid Anime North badge, valid badges include General Day and Weekend Admissions, Exhibitor, and Dealer passes.

Participants DO NOT have to be present during judging. Heads are to be dropped off at the Doll North registration table anytime before the judging period on Saturday and picked up anytime after the judging period.

Only those who pre-register and receive a Parabox 1/3 scale vinyl head from Doll North will be eligible for this competition (limited to 20 people).​

Judging​

Will be open to Fan Choice and included on the Doll Masquerade Fan Favourite ballot.

Prizes

Grand Prize Provided by Parabox


Participation Fee

$25.00 CAD
This includes the cost of shipping and a refundable deposit of $10.00. All participants who bring their head to Doll North for entry will receive a $10.00 refund when they submit their entry. The refundable deposit of $10.00 is yours to keep, and so is your head at the end of the competition! We hope you will enjoy your lovely new Parabox head. You may also choose to donate your head to Doll North’s 2013 charity auction where all proceeds earned will go towards the Hospital for Sick Children.

Shipment

Upon receipt of your fee the head will be shipped to your desired address within the following 2 business days.Doll North will ship within Canada only, at this time the Face Up Competition is restricted to Canadian addresses only.

Disclaimer

Those that pre-register for the Face Up Competition and do not bring their head to Doll North for entry prior to the start of the Face Up Competition will forfeit their refundable deposit. Deposits that are not returned will be applied towards Doll North’s proceeds for charity. We ask that in the case that an unforeseen circumstance arises the entrant contact [email protected] to advise us they will not be in attendance. Those that do not attempt to contact Doll North will forfeit their eligibility for this contest in the future.

Project Runway


Date/Time: TBA

Returning for its third year by popular demand, is Project Runway! This event asks doll enthusiasts to put their creativity and ingenuity to work. The name of the game is to create an outfit under a predetermined time limit out of our secret materials which will be unveiled at the start of the contest. You do not need to pre-register for this event just come as you are with your doll.

Rules

• Each registered participant will work on their own project, there will be no teams.
• You must bring one doll of any size with you to be your model for the event. Valid doll types for entry are the same as the Doll Masqurade.
• You may only use the materials provided, your doll must be start without clothing. Your doll is permitted to wear only the following item(s) at the start of the event: shoes, wig, eyes and under garments. (under garments include: tank top, bra, underwear)

Judging
Will take place immediately after the time limit.

I believe the confusion is between our Parabox sponsored Face Up Competition and our Doll Masquerade.

The Parabox sponsored Face Up Competition registration deadline is May 3, 2013

The Doll Masquerade pre-registration deadline is May 19. However anyone can register for the masquerade at Doll North up until 2 hours prior to the actual competition.
