Doll North @ Anime North 2014 Toronto, Canada

Mar 21, 2014

    1. I'll be there :) Its amazing every year!

    2. ^___^ awesome... I just hope my doll arrives on time

    3. I'll be there :)

    4. I'll be there, but probably only on Sunday. :)

    5. I'm going to drift in and out, since I'm there for more than just the doll programming.

    6. I'll hopefully be able to pop in on Sunday this year :)

    7. I'm going to be there all weekend :D Can't wait to see everyone!

    8. My sisters and I will be hosting a Faceup workshop there this year! I'm very excited! This will be my first year attending DollNorth/AnimeNorth as well.

    9. ^____^ yay more friends... O.O I have a question for those going.... If you know of anyone selling a weekend pass or two.... I really need ones for my parents...

    10. I'm going! :D

    11. Yayy! Can't wait to meet some of you guys :)

    12. I wish I could go to this! Like you, I used to go to Anime North every year when I lived in Toronto! I actually worked in one of the office buildings across the street at one point. I wish I could go to Doll North! I don't this that was running when I was there, and I had a bunch of BJD! I'm wishing you lots of fun, LadyD!

    13. I wish they could have a separate price category for those who want to attend Doll North only. (Im not into anime at all, and want to attend doll north only, but now that they have sold out weekend passes, buying the 3 days separately is quite pricey!)

    14. I'm going for the weekend! This is my first year with a doll as well as my first time at AN.
      Super excited! :dance

    15. will be attending both anime north and doll north

    16. It's always exciting to see who is going to be attending! I look forward to seeing people at the event :3

    17. ^^ I will be in attendance as well! I hope that I'll get a bit more of a chance to meet everyone and hang out.

    18. ^_^ so many new people... We'll have to figure a time and place to meet ^.^

    19. I'll be there. I hope I get my doll's costume for the masquerade done.
I've been attending Anime North for years, but I went to Doll North last year for the first time.

    20. I'll be there again for sure :3 I'll be in and out but Doll North is my main priority this Anime North.

    21. I'm going to be at DollNorth this year! I'm really looking forward to it!

    22. I'm going as well . Looking forward to it.

    23. Guess I should post and say I'm going :D Last year was my first time with a doll of my own, I'm excited to be going back and I look forwards to meeting everyone ^__^

    24. This is my first year with a doll and my first time going to AN, I'm so excited! Can't wait to meet all of you!

    25. I will be there, as always! Though I'll be all around the convention. I am in the same hotel as Doll North, so I'll probably be popping in even more than usual. But I'm probably not going to bring any of my dolls because I've got a lot of cargo to take on public transit due to the flea market on Friday night. I'll just admire everyone else's.

    26. Going to be there with bells on as always. Super excited to see all my DN friends again, and to finally see Belladonna and Morbidollz again after sooooo many years. *u* If I know my DN staff friends it's going to be a good years as always. I'm looking forward to seeing the 90s inspired dolls in the masquerade in particular.

    27. ^____^ finally made my last payment on my first doll ^.^ hoping to have her with me in time for the con, can't wait to meet everyone. I'd like to make something for everyone as a hello gift... Maybe a necklace for one of your dolls? Let me know if you'd want one :D

    28. Congratulations LadyD :D! I hope we'll be able to see her with you! Gosh I've got to get my crew ready TT___TT I'ts coming up so fast..

I'm going to have to bring a couple hundred dollars too because the Dollmarket is so short!!!

    29. sleep_pattern- SO looking forward to seeing you again too, it's been way too long :) I have no doubt that this will be a really awesome con/trip. It's coming up so fast, I really have to start getting things together hahah my dolls are a wreck.

LadyD- Congrats on your first doll! What an amazing feeling :) Can't wait to meet you.

Laelen- I completely agree! I can't wait to see the Dollmarket!

    30. Is there an actual schedule of events for DollNorth that tells when stuff is actually taking place during each day? I can't seem to find anything like that on the AN website.

Sent from Sapphire's iPhone using Tapatalk

    31. I don't think they have the schedule posted yet, it should all be in one book ^.^

    32. my new doll Elsa arrived today so I am very excited to bring her to Doll North with my other doll Luka. Luka is 1/3 size and Elsa is 1/12.

    33. For those of you wondering there is also this information thread that was posted. Usually the programs are posted there but it seems a bit sparse at the moment and a tad outdated. SADOL has been added to the official AN pages as a sponsor :>

Congrats on the addition, Luka! :D

    34. Thank you!

    35. Does anyone have any special preparations they make for a big con like this? I'm always curious, as I'm rushing to get my collection together at the very last minute every time!

    36. Laelen- I usually just plan a day with my sisters where we can all choose which doll(s) we'll be bringing to the con. Then we pick out our favorite outfits for them to wear and try to make them look their best :) If I need to, I also check if any of my dolls need re-stringing, or a new piercing or if any tattoos need to be fixed/touched up.
I definitely need to get cracking though, my dolls are really frumpy looking right now hahah

    37. Sapphire I'll finally get to meet you! I just applied for my passport card today. I'm going. I haven't been to Canada since 2004 ^___^ ( back before you needed a flippin passport )

    38. belladonna xD that's much more organized than me! @__@ I'm always waffling about outfits and which heads to bring until the very last minute. u____u I don't like carrying my bigger dolls around but they are my most polished so they're usually on display. Gosh, it must be lovely to be able to play with your sisters too XD My dad always helps me restring and he's intrigued by my neurotic painting of them. I think he's just happy to see me happy, but I'd love for someone who was actually interested in dolls to be related to me xD!!

Ditto on the need to get going .____. my god it's already almost halfway through April.

    39. Yay! I was wondering if anyone I had regular contact with here on DoA would be there. One friend of mine was also supposed to be coming, but now she is unable to. This isn't my first con, but it is my first time at AN/DollNorth, so my blind self will just be winging it. XD I am really looking forward to meeting you in person! :)

Laelen - I don't usually bring a lot of dolls to a show or con, but my 'special preparations' are more or less the same as belladonna's. I decide who's coming, and then I make sure they're cleaned and restrung and looking nice. I pick out an outfit for them and make sure I've got everything they need for travelling in their carriers (face protectors, bubble wrap "mittens" for their hands, etc.) I don't like carrying big dolls around either, but I really want to bring my 72cm guy to DollNorth because I just want to show him off to everyone. :XD: I have to see if he can ride around in my big backpack without falling out...

    40. Laelen- LOL! Well, that's the plan, but we'll see if it actually works out that way or not loll :) I hate carrying around larger dolls also, but it's all I own now. I have to figure out a way to pack them now though because I think a BJD carrying case exceeds the size for a carry on! My sisters and I will now be taking a plane there.
I think I got very lucky, we all have very similar interests and it's great that we all love BJD's, I feel really fortunate. Although my oldest sister is not into dolls at all haha. That's great that your dad appreciates them though and even helps you restring them! I know my dad likes them but doesn't really take part in anything.
I gotta really get them together, still not sure who I should bring! I'm thinking my Ryu Taboo and my Anos Kris :)

SapphireStargazer- Can't wait to see your guy!

    41. belladonna - Ohhh...I hadn't actually thought of the size of the carrier not meeting the size requirements for carry-on baggage. I'll be flying too, since I'm coming from Prince Edward Island. Maybe my boy will not be coming if I can't find a way to pack him safely. :( Perhaps I'll call WestJet and check with them to see if they'll allow me to bring Gabriel's carrier into the passenger cabin with me anyway. They make exception for guitar cases, after all, which are larger than a 72cm carrier. I'll let everyone know what WestJet says.

    42. SapphireStargazer- Oh!! Brilliant, let me know what they say :) I'll be flying with Porter, so I may just give them a call as well. You could always sit him down in a smaller carry-on suitcase, that's what I'll be doing if we can't bring their doll case. I'll pack the two dolls I decide to bring with pillows also ofcourse. I've actually done it before on a trip to the US with 5 dolls in one carry-on suitcase. They were all sitting. I don't think you should have a problem with your boy if you have to pack him in a suitcase :)

    43. I did go on a flight with a smaller gym bag packed with padding and three dolls (2 SD, 1 MSD-sized) in it and they had no issues with the size, only with how funny they looked on the x-ray - like I was smuggling a tiny family of people. Even then, it was light-hearted. It fit under the seat, which I always prefer to putting my carry-on up in the overhead compartment with everyone else's. That's the only time I've flown with more than one doll, but with size and with security it's never been a huge issue. Also, if you're only bringing one, you could unstring him so he'll fit in a smaller space in your carry-on. There are ways to do it :)

    44. belladonna - I called WestJet and the customer service rep said that they make exceptions for things that are slightly over the size limit. She said it shouldn't be a problem to bring my 72cm carrier on board, as long as I can slide it under the seat. She also said to check with the WestJet baggage office of the airport(s) I'm flying from, to verify with them that I'll have a fragile item that I wish to carry on board. It's okay with the airport on my end, and I've got a call in to the WestJet baggage office at Pearson, so I'll keep everyone posted.

Edtel - ironically enough, unstringing him for the trip and then restringing when we get there was actually my first idea. I may end up doing that if the baggage people in Toronto say I can't bring him on board in his carrier after all, because I tried fitting him into my usual carry-on rolling case this morning, and he just barely fits if I curl him into a fetal position. (He's a big boy!) I've flown with my smaller dolls numerous times and I've never had a problem. lol my little 44cm guy Tyler has logged lots of "air miles" with me; however, this will be the first time I've ever travelled anywhere with Gabriel.

    45. ^___^ I can't wait to meet everyone XD I will have my very first doll for this years Doll North... My friend (who's gettin my doll for me) got the email (on my BDay ^.^) that my doll is being shipped to them... So it won't be long b4 I'll be having my (skype video call) box opening XD!!!!!! Then she'll (itzreeseybetch) come up to canada for Anime North (YAY) and bring my baby with her! ^.^

    46. I think the excitedness factor has officially hit me! Though now there's a dilemma in my future: What dolls am i going to bring?! Oh the agony! Lol!

    47. WestJet Update - Yay!!! I'm back with good news! The guy from WestJet baggage handling at Pearson phoned me back and he said it would be no problem to bring the 72cm carrier on board! He says I have to notify WestJet customer service so that they can put a comment on my tickets, and that's it. He also said that if I happen to run into a really strict gate agent, the worst-case scenario would be that the carrier would have to be "gate delivered" which means they take it from you at the top of the bridge, put it on the passenger cabin of the plane (somewhere) and then give it back to you when you deplane. He said they do this with other fragile or exceptional items such as fishing rods, strollers and musical instruments. He also said the chances of me having to "gate deliver" it would be slim to none, so that made me feel quite a bit better. Looks like Gabriel will get to come with me to DollNorth after all! :)

Moira_VonHelson - yay! I hope we get a chance to meet! We miss you in the RS discussion thread, btw. Do you still have Felix and Sky?

    48. SappireStargazer -YEY! And yes, i still have them :) I can't keep up with the thread so i kinda just lurk around now :P

    49. SapphireStargazer You are making my wonder if I should bring Matrix with me, unsure if you remember but we were in the waiting room for the Impl Idol boys at the same time. I have the green resin Marcus. It would be a lot of fun to see our two lovely boys together! Unfortunately between tax season and planning Doll North I've had so little time for my own collection he's been very neglected. I hope I can find some free time in May to put a few hours into his progress so he can attend :sweat

Have you had any luck with footwear? I'm still on the lookout for a pair that will fit his massive feet.

    50. SaturnRose - Yes, I remember! I wondered what had happened to you, but it sounds like you've been super busy. You should totally bring Matrix! I think it'd be a lot of fun for him and Gabriel to 'meet' each other. :) As to the shoes question...Gabriel is a bit of a shoe collector and currently has 5 pairs that fit him beautifully. I haven't had too much trouble finding shoes for him, although they're not exactly cheap...unless you count the human baby shoes. He can wear Iplehouse EID shoes, SpiritDoll shoes, EID shoes from Freedom Teller and some of the "Converse" sneakers from Alice's collections. I'm sure he'll proudly show off some of his shoes to you if we meet up at DollNorth. ;)

Hey... anybody else from Atlantic Canada going to be there?

    51. I'll be there for my third year. I only live an hour away, so I'm trying to decide if I'm going to lug all three there again like last year. I'll be hanging out with Myracuulous for the most part, though I'm looking forward to meeting Sapphire, who's given me so much good advice in the Resinsoul MSD thread...

    52. Moira xD yep, the excitement's starting to hit me too. More than anything, I know I'll be bringing lots of cash .___. Well, at least one thing is decided..lol

xD Path! I hope that we'll have a chance to meet, as I met Myracuulous a little while ago and she is just lovely :D

    53. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah I am going crazy in excitement and stress for the end of May, there's still so much to do but I'm so excited. I've been getting all my own dolls ready for the con, repainting a couple, trying to get half finished wigs done, giving face-ups to some of the new dolls who've shown up. *_* It is all craziness, but the good kind. I'm super excited for all the masquerade entries, and I'm still trying to decide if I want to try and enter the face-up contest, because I am apparently a masochist who wants to throw that on top of all the other things I have left to do.

    54. (Isn't she?) I'll look forward to meeting you too :D

    55. Not PEI specifically but I do we'll be having at least four DoA members from that end of the country coming out, including Elzamine who'll be bringing her beautiful Steampetal clothing again this year.

    56. lol I'd most likely already know if there were any other Islanders going, at least among the known collectors (of which there are precious few of us). I was just curious to see how many other Atlantic Canadians there might be. I'm going to be at the Moncton doll show in a few weeks, so I suspect some of the people who will be attending that may also be going to Doll North. In any case, I'll be happy to meet new friends no matter where they're from. :)

    57. My friend is out from Newfoundland again and she bring her friend with her too. So looking forward to seeing them again . I'm thinking I might bring my souldoll Zenith Centaur with me this year to the meet up.

    58. yep that's me! I'm from Newfoundland and this year I'm dragging a friend of mine along with me. I'm still debating on who I'm bringing, but one for sure I know is my Souldoll Grey (ball-jointed dog). Probably a couple of my smallers as I'm traveling once again by plane.

      Speaking of planes, I've fit one SD, two MSD, two 30cm and two tinies in a carry-on bag. They sometimes get strange looks going through security and they've been sky checked one time on a smaller plane coming home, but I usually don't have any problems. Just make sure that they're well padded against bumps and you should be fine. If you're super worried you can also buy hard sided suitcases that are carry on sized, though they are super expensive. ^_^;

    59. XD I will totally introduce you two, Laelen and Path, if you don't find each-other first ;) I look forwards to hanging out with ya both, because talented and awesome doll friends :D

It's cool to see how far some people will be traveling for this! As a Toronto native, I'd be happy to give my two cents on where to get the good stuff in downtown T.O. if anyone will be staying past the con weekend. Like the best ramen restaurants, and that one brick-and-mortar store that sells Mr. Super Clear. You know, all the important things in life ;)

sleep_pattern your faceups are so pretty! I'd be really excited if you entered the faceup contest, not gonna lie, but I know you must be busy with prep work ^__^ The talent last year was just incredible, I'm just so excited to see what people do with this theme! I even did a head myself, it was so much fun to paint something crazy and pokemon-themed :)
