      Competition Information
      Doll Masquerade

Theme: Heavenly Bodies - Fierce Deities
This year, Doll North is taking inspiration from the biggest night in fashion, the MET Gala. Are you itching to make something red-carpet worthy? This is your chance! This dress code is black tie only.
The theme for this year’s beautiful fashions is Heavenly Bodies: Fierce Deities. Dress your doll in their very best red-carpet attire inspired by a fictional God, Goddess, or divine being. Whether it’s from a video game, an anime or t.v. series, or your own imagination, all are welcome on the best-dressed list.

      Photography Contest
      Theme: Paparazzi
Who’s your biggest fan? This year’s photography contest invites you to get inspired by red carpets, intriguing celebrities, and eager photographers. Has your doll been caught doing something questionable? Or are they strutting their stuff at a premiere? Maybe they are the ones trying to capture the perfect shot. You can use a mix of practical effects (like props and sets) as well as digital post-processing to tell us the story about your doll getting their picture snapped (or your doll doing the snapping!).
Please avoid submitting simple portraits of your masquerade costume. We’re looking for something that tells us a story!

      Face Up Speed Challenge
      Theme: Eleganza Extravaganza
For the first time this year, we have a competition theme! In keeping with the photography and masquerade themes, this year’s Faceup Competition theme is Eleganza Extravaganza! We want to see your doll heads at their most glamorous. Other than making sure to keep it glam, artists are encouraged to interpret the theme as they wish.

Participants in this challenge are given 90 minutes to complete a face up. Participants may bring their own materials or use those supplied by Doll North. Doll North has a limited number of supplies so it would be best of participants brought their own (brushes in particular). The competition takes place on-site at Doll North in the Crowne Plaza. Those wishing to participate can pre-register online or show up at the event and register in person.
Participants in this challenge must bring their own heads to the Killarny workshop room in the Crowne Plaza to participate.

      Doll North Selfie Challenge 2019
Capture yourself having a blast at Doll North 2019 for a chance to win! Follow the list of prompts and post each picture on a public Instagram account along with the hashtag #DNSelfie2019 to participate.
Feel free to also use the hashtags #DollNorth and #AnimeNorth2019 to spread the fun! Can you make it through the whole list?

      Doll North Twinning Challenge 2019
Do you and your doll have a cute matching outfit? We want to see! Make sure you and your little twin stop by to take a photo at the official Doll North Selfie Booth and post it to a public Instagram account along with the hashtag #DNTwinning2019! You can also spread the word using the hashtags #DollNorth and #AnimeNorth2019. Show us your best Twinning pose for a chance to win a fun prize!

    5. Updated some new information including Workshops!!! :D

    6. I'm so excited for Doll North! This will be my first time going and I'm hoping to enter into a couple of the competitions. Really looking forward to meeting new doll folks, as well.

    7. Will Aileen Johnston be offering her services at the convention??

    8. Same here! I’m really looking forward to my first year at Doll/Anime North! :cheer

    9. I’m so pumped!!! I cant wait to see everyone!!! I haven’t decided who in my crew is joining me either!

    10. I registered and paid for a table to sell used items but now I cannot attend the event due to work commitment. I wrote to @moonlitparadox, hope she gets my message. I hope someone else gets my space. Not asking for refund because it’s my fault.

    11. Haven't decided yet who's coming with me to DN. I bought a fair bit of dolls last year (and another 2 this year) and I'm at a loss as to who to bring. I can't bring them all (laughs hysterically) and it's really hard to choose.

    12. I’m right there with you I’ve to many to choose from. I have no idea who to take at all. I can only take 3 because I’m coming from California.

    13. I try to bring different dolls each year (that's not the problem at all). I'll also bring specific dolls if someone asks because I have all the weird/unusual/rarely seen ones. A friend has asked me to bring one of my nagas (Sugarable or Miracle Doll Snake Demon) and if I do, then their partner must come, too (Lume Light Blaze or FL Chicline Rou). They're small-ish so that wouldn't be too bad but of course that means that I can bring more dolls with me!

My odyssey to get to the con involves 2 hours on public transit and about 30 minutes of walking. I've brought multiple SD's with me before (because I'm obviously insane) but I don't think my body will let me do that this year.

    14. Not sure if it's cool to post this here, but I have a room booked at the Crowne Plaza from Thursday to Sunday if anyone needs a place for the weekend and would like to share :D

    15. Hey, guys, so I'm also a broadcasting student and have a doc project to do, so I picked my subject as DN lol I'll have a small tv cam and tripod, as well as mic set with me for the weekend and would love some interviews! Also I would love to film some tables and dolls. You'd only need to sign some talent release forms and sit in front of the camera, answer questions and do your thing. It will be edited in FAVOR of the BJD comm lol Of course, as I am a collector myself haha It will be submitted for my own grades as well as put on youtube and posted on some FB groups and here. If you'd like to schedule an interview once the con schedule goes up, hit me up here through dm!

    16. What sort of dolls were you looking to film for this project? Particular brands? Sculpts? Whatever happens to pass by your lens?

    17. I don't think I wanna talk on camera because... me.. but you can film my dollies without issue <3

      • x 1
    18. ANYTHING BJD. I want a wide array of different types of dolls and styles and stories and personal journeys through those dolls (if any and if anyone wants to talk). I want to show how wide the scope is. I'd also like someone(s) to talk "shop" (customization, modding, stringing, eye placement-- maybe even some demos).

    19. @xkelpiex I ask as I've got all the weird/unusual/seldom seen dolls. Seriously. A friend is asking me to bring Nassano (Sugarble naga boy) because she loves my nagas so that means Dolf (Lume Light Blaze) needs to come, too. I may bring Hylocerous (MiracleDoll Snake Demon) & Deagan (FL Chicline Rou) as they are new (and smaller-ish so easier to transport than my big SD's).

Beyond that... Ondraeden (Soom ID51 London the Moor) & Valerian (Iple FID Claude vampire), Kai-Wen (Raccoon Doll Elf Kai) & Belial (SD Vito Berial) are also new-ish and in the running to come (but not both couples as I'm shlepping these guys around in a 2 hour public transit oddessy to get to the con and that's a LOT of resin). The same friend also adores Skerren (Akhmel Nathan) and if he comes, Iwa-Xine (Soom Boehm Smoke Sprite) & Cynara (DZ Little Bean) have to come as well. Naicree (Argonautica Little Kio) & Vaynabei (DC Clemens) would be cool to bring but Vaynabei has delicate parts and I'd be afraid of something breaking. Mkhai (Impl Miguel the Demon Hunter) & Kathiel (Unidoll Ark) came last year so they're out this year. Wisp (Iple Creaa-J Lev) could come. Ra-Sui (SD Vito Azreal skull head), Wisp's partner would stay home as he's still just a head in a box because I fail at resisting resin temptation *sigh*.

Ummm, yeah. I have a LOT of options. More than I've listed here. A lot more. Choosing who to bring is freaking hard and there's literally just 2 weeks to go!

    20. I'm not sure who to bring this year as well.... Probably not my xaveria again, she was a huge hit last year and I got so many nice pictures but transporting her via plane stresses me out so much... so many spindly spider legs!!!
Maybe I'll bring my oldest dolls again (hujoo freya and one of the older ailendoll ashes)

I admit as soon as I saw the news I thought about the possibility of picking up a cute Raclette but dental troubles struck and within the past two weeks I've been sucked nearly dry
at least I paid for the con itself in advance

    21. How did I miss seeing a Xaveria? Darn. I could see why traveling with her on a plane would stress you. I don't need to do that but just taking Vaynabei (DC Clemens) on public transit makes me fear for some of the spikes on his tail and his impossibly thin fingers.

    22. I wrapped all of her limbs up with foam and paper towels I was So!!! Nervous!!! DC's sculpts are all so nice and pretty and unique but have so many delicate features... I want to bring her everywhere with me but Alas!!!! I posted my favorite picture of her from last year in the 2018 photo thread I love how she looks like a teacher surrounded by her tiny little students...

    23. Thanks for sharing the photo of her. I'd be hella nervous bringing her places too. Vaynabei is probably more sturdy than I give him credit for being but his fingers are so thin it just scares me a little. When I take Skerren (Akhmel Nathan) anywhere I take him in his padded box because I'm afraid of something happening to his legs because they're so long and delicate looking. His fingers are tiny as well but seem more... sturdy than Vaynabei's.

    24. @Iron_Dog Whoever you wanna show on film! I'm open to whoever. I wanna show the variety in the BJD world. I;ve decided to make this a half hour doc rather than a 3 minute haha so I have my work cut out for me.

    25. this is my first year going to doll north! im so used to just staying at anime north in cosplay and never ventured over. i want opinions on it, for anyone thats been to doll north what do you guys think of it, is it worth going, do you have any tips, whats your favorite part of it all and what do you recommend the most, let me know!

    26. If you go for the doll sales room I suggest going on the Saturday rather then Sunday. Last year I found that some vendors were selling used clothes, shoes, etc... way overpriced.

    27. I think it's super fun and totally worth going to!! There's a lot of variety of items on the sales floor, and the panels and workshops are always really fun. You can also take a look at all the photo, faceups, and masquerade contest entries!! I always have a great time, and the AN pass lets you on for free, so you should pop over :)

    28. Schedule's up! Not as many games this year :?:pout: But, I"m still pleased.

    29. It's my first time going to Doll north so.... is it very separate from anime north? Or are they in the same area?

    30. It’s in the same area, though located at the Crowne Plaza basement floor.
I guess it’s apart of Anime North as an AN ticket can also get you into DN too
      hope this helps :D
