Yes I agree, it’s so nice to see DIM discussion with more activity, especially the Love size Are you going to do another kimono for Lloyd I found these acrylic pattern making tools on Etsy I’m thinking about getting. Acrylic Pattern Making Tool for Making Doll Clothes Mini - Etsy They’re a little pricey, would you happen to know if there is a cheaper place to get tools like these? I don’t have a printer and I’d like to avoid printing patterns out anyway. I want to get into hand sewing a simple blouse
Yes I'll make him another at least as the next outfit. I like making them, they are so simple and meditative, and I think they look so beautiful for him. This will make me sound really insane but I personally dont use anything to make my own patterns other than paper or paper towels, pencil to draw, and the doll. I don't even use measurements and I don't have any education for it. basically, in 2012 I just started by looking at clothes I have and mimicking shapes to sew stuff based on what I saw. You can also get books on drafting that show you the shapes for different stuff and then you will mimic from there. I'm not entirely sure how the thing you showed on Etsy works in practice, because there are lots of different size and proportions of 1/3 doll. One thing you can do of course is base things off any clothes you already have that fit too. Anyway I never meet anyone who says they just draw their patterns freehand and everything so I always feel worried I don't know what to say to help. but I will always try!
yes you kimonos are so pretty and your Lloyd looks so good in them Omg that is brilliant I will do that first, take my own clothes and just observe the patterns. I’m glad i asked here first instead of blowing $40 on something I’ll probably just use once . Thanks for the tip @AlisonVonderland
Aw no problem! I really hope it helps. I make most of my patterns, unless it's a highly fitted garment by laying the doll on my paper and drawing around them to get the main form for the body. Also you can make draft patterns with paper towels, you can sew a decent quality paper towel to test what you are making or you can pin together a mock-up with paper towel and have the doll try it on. These things work well for learning to sew simple things as a beginner. Good luck! And thank you! I got a pretty fan print to use for his next one
Hey everyone! How've you been? Hope you and your dolls are having a lovely weekend. I'm Sewing a bit for Sven because he is very spoiled but I took a picture of him before, and with new eyes I got. They are just a basic old glass from Monique (r.i.p.) but Ugh they look so beautiful for him he has never had eyes this flattering, I'm so happy! IMG 20230511 230735 — Postimages Would love to see/hear what anyone else has been up to!
These blue eyes look so pretty on him Looks more innocent and shy what kind of outfit/ style you sewing for him? I haven’t done much with my dolls lately I been busy I am currently waiting on a body for my BBjorn (decided on 65cm DF-H since it’s supposedly a match to Doll Leaves Pink skin). Im in a planning phase for my Annelise head. I want to get that 68cm girl body- muscle type maybe? I want to make them an androgynous/ ambiguous character like Anima
AlisonVonderland, Sven looks wonderful in those eyes! They really open up his expression. I have two ancient DIM boys. So ancient, in fact, that most collectors probably don’t remember them. I have a Persia, and an R-Asiam. I really wanted to get a DIM Danbi, too. But he got discontinued before I could manage it. I had also contemplated getting a Lloyd. I thought he was so cute with that moody expression. But, I never managed to swing that either. Here’s my precious Persia. I got him in 2006. And, here’s my R-Asiam, also purchased in 2006, enjoying Halloween with a few friends.
@Rabbit-moon thanks for sharing your boys O I haven’t seen these sculpts forever You got the best of both worlds going on here: the sweet/adorable Persia and then there’s R-Asiam’s wild look and his even wilder friends I just love the personalities of these older DIM sculpts
Well the doll in mind discussion people remember them @Rabbit-moon I mean, at least I remember those sculpts! Yours are so beautiful waaaahhhhh! So nice to see the pictures. I can relate to wanting more. I'm not normally so greedy and I mean by now I just have Lloyd and the offshoot, Rydel. But every time I see people with others I feel this terrible doll-lust I genuinely don't even have energy for so many characters and still having floating head woes so it's really silly. That's what the discussion threads are so great for at least. Enjoying without the burden of owning lol. Speaking of which, doll leaves Noir just makes me so crazy I think I have to behead him and let poor lloyd take back that body. And I forgot to reply @krystina so sorry! I love these eyes too... They actually fit. The bar is so low around here on my budget. But actually as well they are just really nice. I bought several different pairs at factory direct craft recently, old Monique glass for like $11 each and they are really really nice for the cost, especially now that I find it so hard to find 18mm eyes. I don't know exactly what I'm making for Sven. He already has a whole wardrobe. I just enjoy to continue sewing. He wears some kind of punky visual Kei, romantic goth, ecclectic mish Mash. I just stumble around on their clothes until I figure it out honestly I guess I've kind of made him a sofa this week though. It's almost done. It's this raspberry satin kind of look and it just seems like he would be responsible for it. I will try to finish it today but I've had trouble on the hand stitching necessary because my fingers are so swollen. I'm so sorry I talk so much everyone
Thank you Krystina! I love these two so much! The bjd aesthetic was different back then. Now, it seems as if everyone is into hyper-realism and overly exaggerated muscles. Not everyone, of course, but it certainly is a current trend. And you are right, the older DIM sculpts had such personality. Thank you so much AlisonVonderland! I think they are beautiful, too. I look at these older sculpts and I’m taken back in time to a happier place. It was so exciting back then! (Not to mention the euphoria of your first whiff of new resin! ) Honestly, lately, the only 1/3 dolls I want are the old dolls that I missed out on back in the day. So, yes, I’d get real “greedy” if I could lay my hands on a DIM Danbi, or a Lloyd. An old CP/Lut Shiwoo would be nice, too. YAY! Lloyd deserves a body. (For old times sake ).
@AlisonVonderland Lol Sven got so many options and he looks good in all styles I did see his sofa on your IG- I can’t wait to see it done with him lounging on it like the boss he is @Rabbit-moon you said it best And I agree - I think I’m where you are too. As much as I like the new dolls and companies making them, I feel like I want the older sculpts more because of those early doll days
Haha thank you @krystina ! Maybe it will be done today. I've had a really hard time finishing the pillows because of the swelling in my hands (that I always have now, hand sewing is really really hard ) but the dolls will look awesome on it. Yeah I'm also team nostalgia. It's for a few reasons. I really actively dislike a bunch of current aesthetics, or at best feel really uninterested in them. It started a long time ago, while minifee were snowballing. (I absolutely hate them lol) and from there it just seemed more and more like I felt alienated more than having things in common with what others like about bjd. But being honest my life is also so terrible. And I'm not sure how/if I can fix it. And I look at the old dolls and think back on when I didn't feel this way. So it's just been really nice to find this cozy little thread where we relate to each other more!
@AlisonVonderland o dang- I hope your hands feel better! The way you feel about mini fees is how I kind of feel about Peakswoods I was collecting them for awhile and actually had 6 at one point before rehoming all but one. I love Peakswoods but felt like I was collecting them for the sake of collecting and not enjoying them. I thought maybe I just need a change of style and now I feel like DIM is bringing me back to what I originally enjoyed about collecting dolls. Aww I hope whatever you are dealing with now gets better I don’t know what I can say to help you but I believe you will find a way to fix whatever is ailing you. For the small amount of time I’ve known you, I can see how creative and resourceful you are and I’ve always believed creative people find/see things better than most. That is my funny way of thinking anyway
Aw bleh you know it brings me down so much to have popular doll aesthetics that I truly viscerally hate. And I plan not to speak of it further. Especially because I don't care what anyone else enjoys and definitely don't want to take the wind out of their sails, but feeling yuck was definitely not why I wanted to be in the hobby I really like Peakswoods but I think I gave up ever owning one. I had a segi head years ago... Should have kept her! I was too broke to make the head sale last year and that really broke my heart. I have a very unhealthy urge to collect more doll in mind just because. I can't even take good care of Lloyd! (Maybe I am too hard on myself) I wish we could have an irl doll in mind meet. I would probably cry with joy and you would have to slap my little hands off your pretty dolls because I get too excited! In all honesty my hands are not going to get better any time soon. Not sure anything ailing me will. I've spend a lot on mobility aids recently. This is my situation so I'm just trying to make the most of every day within my means. Sometimes there is just not going to be a fix for things and I know that's often a scary and avoided topic, but we keep getting up in the morning and finding something new to try to focus on. So don't worry. I appreciate you saying I am resourceful, and I am! I'm just also really tired lol. I think I will show here a photo of Lloyd soon Because I'm making some ridiculous outfit that will be either really cool or just very wacky on him
Lol! Peakswoods Segi is such a cute sculpt. Good thing she’s not retired if you ever want to try putting her together again I still love Peakswoods but I prefer now to just look at owner pics. I met the sisters behind Peakswoods at the Pacific Northwest BJD meetup- they are the kindest, loveliest ladies Uhhh you do too take care of Lloyd- he’s always dressed better than me I think I might be heading to just collecting DIMs too- possibly Maskcatdoll if I cannot get any of the DIM girl sculpts. I don’t know why but I been really drawn to them lately- I really do like the aesthetics and their style seems very consistent. I would love to do a DIM doll meet someday. Heh, you can totally hold and play with my dolls all you want as long as you let me dress them up in your kimonos so I can take pictures Well, I hope you feel better and yes drop a Lloyd pic
Healing light and love to you AlisonVonderland. I think that is why I’m so nostalgic for the older sculpts. The older dolls aren’t just a possession, they are a glimpse into happier times, and it takes me out of my dark place. During the pandemic, and the quarantine, playing with these old dolls always gave me relief from my stress and anxiety. I love the old aesthetic; it gives me comfort. The new realism just leaves me oddly cold. Who knows? Maybe, I’m just getting old. (*shrugs*) Peakswoods Segi is my favorite Peakswoods sculpt. I always wanted one, but it just never happened. Vampire Goldie was cute, too. Just to stay on-topic, here’s another pix of my Persia, without his glasses. Just looking at him gives me a smile.
Yes I agree- having these dolls helped alleviate some of the stress and loneliness during the shutdown I was certainly thankful I had mine . Your Persia also makes me smile- ahh such a cute face I just love his big eyes full of wonder I can’t wait to get my BBjorn on here with his new body and hopefully a new faceup
Oh WOW! You have a BBjorn? That's awesome! Oh please post photos of him when he is completed. He was such a beautiful sculpt.
@Rabbit-moon yes I got lucky I got him thru here I have a few pics here I believe he has a company faceup- the eyebrows look similar to your boys. I will probably replace because it’s pretty worn (plus I want to see him in a new style )
Krystina, thanks for the link! Just like I said, Bbjorn is a beautiful boy! So happy to see him! Here’s another one that got away…a DIM Arno. After all this time I had forgotten about him, but was reminded how much I had liked him when I ran across this picture. Isn’t he a cutie?
@Rabbit-moon yes Arno is such a cutie Such pretty facial structure I always thought of him and Edmon as siblings because they seem to have such bright personalities and pretty faces If I see him on the market somewhere (and Danbi too) I’ll let you know here- one of us has to get him lol! I’m casually looking for Galahad, Terrence, Elif, Leif, Hammish, Edmon, Leonora, Odile, Lestia, Archenar, and Rain - if I see any of these and can’t get them, I’ll notify about their sale here if anyone interested
Remember when I said only a few posts ago I wasn't ever buying more dolls as an excuse? Spoiler: Well... I bought two since then. They are coming this week but to be fair, it wasn't exactly the same commitment... It was a lot of 2 mature 1/6 for only $125. So anyway... That was probably my treat this year. Not DIM related, I just don't want to look like a liar lol. There are two different older DIM head sculpts in the MP right now, but not one anyone specifically mentioned. One of them is one of the sad big eared vampire girls I always wanted. But I definitely am not planning to realize that dream. There was one girl head (enubi?) Earlier in the year I almost went for but now that someone else bought her and I don't have to look at her I'm fine with it. @Rabbit-moon I love seeing Persia. He has the same kind of square angles nose that Lloyd has which I find so incredibly interesting. You know, I swear I saw someone post an Arno recently... He's lovely isn't he? I feel like a lot of these have resurfaced recently and it's really nice! @krystina Archenar is one I always remember because my sister had a cat she named Archenon when we were younger. I can't even remember what that doll looks like but I think maybe he was one I really wanted? I can't remember if Lloyd was really my first choice for who to have at the time, but this is how it ended up I know I said I was about give Lloyd a new outfit but of course someone else took that one, then I went back to make something new for Sven: (Rydel) Lumii 20230523 155727318 — Postimages But I actually did finish something cute for Lloyd now! I just need to take a pretty picture
@AlisonVonderland lol those dolls don’t count because you didn’t specify the size in your original post Yes I saw the DIM dolls you mentioned in the Marketplace- and I did see the Eunbi and Robel earlier there too (Robel was a full doll). I was seriously thinking to get Robel but I was afraid if I get him, he’d just be hidden away as I don’t have a character in mind to justify buying. I’m sure whoever got him, he’s cherished and perhaps we’ll see him here one day Here is Archenar’s picture If I see him on sale anywhere, I’ll be sure to notify you I don’t want him as badly as the other sculpts, but I’ll take him if he’s ever available XD The other sculpt I forgot to mention is Andrea He was released around the same time as Lloyd- maybe you’re thinking of this sculpt between picking him and Lloyd? Like Lloyd, he has a beautiful nose too and piercing stare Aaah I wish I can have him That kimono looks so fashionable- i saw it on your IG too but just has to comment again. The fur trim is just magnificent for Sven
@krystina Ahhhh omg there he is! It's funny because I couldn't remember his face anymore but the memories flood back now! He's beautiful! Looking back I think maybe Archenar was my first choice. I remember Andrea now too! Ah that's funny! But no I actually like Lloyd's expression better and his cool nose. He feels very stylized even more than Andrea. I just thought Lloyd and Archenar would be the cutest siblings. I hope you can find yourself a Lloyd. I think odds on him may be better than many of the others. He seems like he was popular. As for myself, truly I'm set as is, but you're very nice to think of me! And thank you for the compliment on the new outfit! It's like a kimono but I made it with some different elements, it was modeled after a 1970s evening jacket I saw posted on an antique fashion page I follow.
Thank you Krystina! So many dolls… so little money… Thank you AlisonVonderland! I agree, Persia and Lloyd have great noses! I’m all about noses! My dolls have to have visually interesting noses. The robe you made for Rydel is lovely! I wish I knew how to sew like you. Im sorry I didn’t see the Arno posting but, in all honesty, I’ve been cutting way back on my doll buying. These days, a doll really has to pull hard on my heartstrings for me to pursue it. And, sadly, this summer my husband and I are going to be doing some much needed repairs on our house; so there goes any wild spending money I might have had for dolls. I hate “adult-ing”! But, a Danbi or a Arno would be tempting. Denny’s sculpts were so beautiful. I really miss DIM.
@Rabbit-moon I feel you there, real life problems is half of why I was not planning to buy more from here at least until everything is changed (and I don't know if/when that would be). But also just a matter of a change of heart in life. It's not that I don't love the dolls I have, it's that the years pass and as things change, you change too. I don't need more. I need a structure that helps me to do what's important for me. Back on topic, so I didn't realize before that DollK actually had so many archived photos of the old sculpts! So I looked through them all and oh what a pleasant memory it was! I started to recognize a bunch of the ones I loved so well. I miss thess dolls so much. Maybe one day the sculptor will read our comments and come back again. there was just something about these faces that always kept my heart captive. They are tender and reassuring to me. I wish more owners would join us here
I would love that But I think he might actually be done- last year he opened a minis group order for Flowne, Laia and Larina. On this GO, he said if anyone wanted another sculpt, he would do it but only if there were 20 people minimum. Also, he would check his back stock for any sculpts he had left- I got lucky and got one of the left over Julis heads I also think he might be really retired cuz he retired from making miniatures recently Denny really is so talented ! Someone posted a link to some of his work in the DIM minis discussion thread- I’ll see if I can find it. But I’ll still hope maybe Jun KyungSun might return to doing resin Right now she’s focused on her bisque miniatures (if you have a chance, check her work in IG under her name )
Aw, that's fair. All good things must eventually come to an end. I hope he is able to enjoy his retirement. He certainly brought us a lot of joy through his dolls. Aw I'm actually following her already! I love the little antique style dollies she's making now. They are so sweet, as I would expect it would be cool if she ever makes bjds again though, because her work is so lovely. Anyway, here's finally a random photo of my Lloyd... today in a faux daguerreotype kind of edit Lumii 20230525 183145179 — Postimages I love his new corset top. I think I know how to pull together a new little wardrobe for him so probably I'll post him more again
@Rabbit-moon i hear ya, adulting is overrated and I wish I can spend money on dolls not bills T.T @AlisonVonderland if you’re interested in seeing Denny’s 1:6 miniature, check out the top comment by natterat here . There was a question as to why Denny was referred to as “Cult King” on his PayPal- it’s a really interesting “about the artist” info Yes, Denny and his company along with his group of artists will always be prolific in the bjd hobby last I heard he had a white noise YouTube channel but I can’t seem to find it anymore I hope he is enjoying his retirement One of these days when I’m not buying doll things, I’d love to have one of her bisque dolls. I love how vintage they look. Ahhh Lloyd looks so handsome in his corset Those accessories really compliment his outfit can’t wait to see the rest of his wardrobe!
AlisonVonderland and Krystina, I didn’t know Denny had retired! I always wondered why DIM closed. Denny was always so good to his customers. I hope he’s having a wonderful retirement. *heavy sigh* But, Alison is right, all good things eventually come to an end. (Except for David Bowie’s music. That will go on forever!) Still, I’m having a hard time with the “things ending” concept. Krystina, thanks for the archive link at DOLK! It was awesome to cruise down memory lane looking at all the DIM sculpts. I wish all companies would keep an archive/memory page for all their old sculpts. I know most collectors would appreciate that. AlisonVonderland, your Lloyd looks AMAZING! Wow! He’s gorgeous in that corset!
@Rabbit-moon Bowie until the end of time Same- for me too tho I still feel like time hasn’t moved much from when I joined this hobby. 2009 to me was like 3 years ago and YW, I like to look at the old pics sometimes too, maybe get some inspiration for styles of clothing or photography inspiration
Drive by Anima drop I been trying up new styles for him Spoiler: Close up Different wig Spoiler: different wig Spoiler: Close up More fits Spoiler: more outfits Spoiler: Second image Punk Princess Spoiler: punk Spoiler: Second Image As plain as it is, I think the all black is my favorite Spoiler: plain black Spoiler: Second image Kind of looks like a young, baby-faced Alucard
Same person who sold me my BBjorn has an Archenar for sale I want to get him but I’m overwhelmed with incomplete dolls as is If anyone looking for an Archenar l can point you to them.
Errrrmehgerd Archenar womppp I love seeing the cool different stylings on your Amina @krystina I think my favorites are pink princess and the deer antlers outfit but I think... These are kind of leaning in my Lloyd direction so it's very inspiring. My Lloyd (Nagi) I think claimed a new wig yesterday. It really shows his sculpt well and fits the personality I think I'm going for with clothes and everything lately. But it definitely shows just how tragic the Faceup actually is. it was one I did with extreme haste in Canada in like 2 layers at 40F and I think I need to finally redo it soon. I may just paint the same look but actually do it well this time lol. I definitely don't need a new boy head... But I'm feeling finally ready to deal with sorting out my doll collection and I hope I can get one more cheap boy body and maybe it would help somehow. I wish I could find something that genuinely works properly for Sven. I'm forever irritated by hybriding him.
@AlisonVonderland Thank you The punk one was fun and the deer antler is also my favorite next to the all black I got the skirt in marketplace and it’s so nicely made and fun to pair with other pieces. Lol my Anima is learning from Nagi Especially in accessorizing I’m still learning in the power of accessories- typically I just throw the outfit on the doll but adding accessories really pushes a look further. Ooo new wig for Nagi? And maybe new makeup for him too?! Your faceups are really good- I saw your Seven he is just pretty . Please show him off when you get his new look! I been wanting to faceup the rest of my DIM minis but I just been so lazy I’ll probably try next weekend, I really need to clean my place up first- get a good clean environment for creativity. I def feeling you on the doll sorting. I’ve been channeling Marie Kondo and I think I’m going to rehome a few dolls- I love them but I want to go into a different direction in my collecting. They would be better in someone else’s collection I feel I hope you’re able to find a body for Sven! I think I saw a DIM minimee body in the marketplace- I don’t know if the resin will match though even if they’re the same company- or if you like the sculpt (?).
Oh by the way thank you @Rabbit-moon about Lloyd! He's coming together! I think the corsets are somehow just perfect for him so I made another already I swear I never mean to ignore replying but I am very poor at paying attention it seems. And I check the notification and then go away and forget. I also have a really hard time coming to terms with endings, moving on.... I think it's evident in all that I do honestly. @krystina thank you! the one on fer turned out great. I'm capable of great work and also capable of doing poor faceups for myself in bad conditions I'll have a very good time repainting Lloyd because he always looks great. I saw that one too. I'm trying to decide what is the best use of very little money. Especially because I have a few unsorted heads left so I'll probably just get whatever I objectively prefer and see what problem it solves when it gets here, as per usual these days. I'm not sure on the resin color but I'm not sure doll in mind and doll in life used the same pink resin color or if the minimee color is more like doll in life. I had Sven's old body a long time ago. It was I think the first version doll in mind? But the color wasn't very pink and he and my Lloyd are pretty different colors. I have trouble finding a body for him because of everything, colors and proportions.
Krystina, he’s rocking that black outfit! The other outfits are fun, but young and smoldering in black is too smexy! AlisonVonderland, LOL! Not to worry! I do the same thing. Additionally, even threads I’ve signed up to watch don’t notify me. Other members have complained about how hit-and-miss the notifications can be at times. (I think there are ghost bugs in this forum)
@Rabbit-moon Thank you Funnily enough, I wear mostly black too Black slacks, black long sleeves, black pumps, black shades, all black everything
@Rabbit-moon I believe what it is is that the watch notifications are actually made so that if you don't check every notification by going to the thread when it notifies you it decides you don't care and it won't notify you again until you return there. Pretty wacky! I used to wear a lot of black, and I love black doll clothes, but I have an orange cat. And I feel like the air is just made of cat hair now, so I avoid black clothes especially for my dolls these days it's such a shame! Because I agree, it's very stylish
@AlisonVonderland lol I also have a cat- he does make it hard to wear black My next cat gonna be a hairless or a devon Rex
I wish I had a cat! I love them so, but I'm terribly allergic. And, I also have asthma, so breathing becomes an issue. . It's such a bummer! But, just show me a cat video and I'm there!
@Rabbit-moon I’ll do a photo of my cat and doll and post it here to stay on topic it will come later in the week tho- there’s a loud storm where I am in Boise and my cat Mochi is hiding from the thunder
I did a bad y’all- I put that Byron on layaway Didn’t plan for another full doll- I’m not proud of myself right now but he will look great with my BBjorn
That's really awesome though. I'm glad Byron will get to come home to the discussion thread congratulations @krystina !
Yes absolutely and in the end, isn’t that what matters? Thank you Now I gotta go organize my current collection
I am over the moon! I actually managed to come across an Arno on eBay while mindlessly browsing and successfully bought him!
That's awesome @HighPriestessIce the head only one? I saw him myself because I like to look for no reason. I'm glad someone here could snatch him up. I hope you will post him here when he is home. I think we are living vicariously through one another in this thread
Yes! I can't wait to repaint and goth him up to fit with my other DIM boys. I am always hunting everywhere for DIM and Souldoll Sabrina. Sad to say I missed the Danbi on IG, but I always forget to look there.
I can't wait to see how he looks @HighPriestessIce Ugh I'll be honest, I don't think FOMO is exactly the right word for my mood these days it's more like "sad that i'm missing out" but wow there have been a crazy amount of the old D.i.m. second hand this year. But I'm bummed in general about so much and it sucks that market seems to be tanking on dolls in ways that didn't do anything for me. I should be more grateful for Lloyd, it's just hard sometimes. I think it was bellose I really wanted the most but I think when you are constantly bored and sad it's hard not to wish you could buy something that would cheer you up maybe one day in the distant future it will be better again. I want to show Lloyd in the new wig I decided is cute on him but it definitely shows his tragic Faceup more... it's both too hot and too humid to repaint anyone this summer at all. So he keeps waiting... What a drag. But he is happy on the shelf with his friends these days, and my eyesight is so bad the faceup is tolerable lol.
@AlisonVonderland for me it is FOMO I hate to admit I joined that DIM MSD last order thinking I’ll never get a chance to get a DIM again. And now I somehow acquired 5 DIM heads and one full doll on the way between that GO and now . I’m definitely going to be rehoming at least 2, possibly 3 heads. But now, I think I’m good- no more acquiring, just completing dolls and looking at everyone else’s DIMs seeing everyone’s dolls here, I feel like belong to me and mine belong to everyone I hope you get some better weather , I want to see Lloyd in his new hair and face Maybe this fall would be better, take some time to enjoy the summer
Haha fair enough @krystina I joined a dim preorder a few years ago when they were selling a bunch of 1/3 girls still, and I ordered a body and two heads and didn't keep any of it more than a year. That was definitely depression fomo at the time. I didn't like those girls because they had 7/8 heads and it wasn't what I expected. I mean, it's not like I hated them. I could have kept them and they could have slowly become favorites over several years. But that's not how it panned out. It's incredible that you found so many second hand now. I admit I've seen more second hand this year than in a decade. I think it will be really satisfying to watch them come together! Our weather here will change sometime in late September or October usually. It's unbearable the majority of the year. I did one Faceup recently when it was already too hot and humid but there is of course the threshold where it's just too stupid to try. Maybe if the weather gets bad again from really bad then I could repaint someone. I'll probably show Lloyd anyway though with the different hair in some new outfit
@AlisonVonderland definitely- I could never dislike any of DIMs molds Did you have Lloyd and Sven when you got the girls? I probably would have done the same if I had them, and then these girls showed up that are completely different than what you’re used to . Yes I can’t wait to get them completed, especially BBjorn I’m still deciding on what look I want for him- I found some more old company photos of him I hadn’t seen and I just fell in love with him all over again I’m thinking to go something similar to company, but with some teensy differences. Maybe I’ll do something with his ears (no piercings tho ) they are so hard to see sometimes when he’s wearing wigs. Lol yes release the new wig photo for Lloyd when you can I’m curious to see his new look
Yes I absolutely had them already which is why I was like... Oh I mean I read the measurements on the site and I knew it would be different it just wasn't what I ended up interested in at the time. I got those two sometime around 2017? Sven and Lloyd/ Nagi I got six months apart in 2012 (secondhand). Sven is now my second longest time doll I still have/ put together. So it's old days. That's so wonderful! I feel it's so fun to remember the company photos. I do this from time to time myself! I will be eagerly awaiting the progress photos as you have fun customizing them! Eh you know me, I want everything just-so and I want Lloyd fully dressed in something I'm proud of. I'm pretty sure he's sitting on the sewing shelf pantsless at the moment
So I massively lucked out and just put a down payment on DIM Azelia head just now. So much potential for a cute goth boy. This was totally on a whim and now I have to brainstorm which part of my crew he'll fit in. Then I'll have to choose a perfume and everything, because every single doll I own has their own perfume. Not to mention finding a body aaaa.
Congrats on getting an Azelia @HighPriestessIce Cute goth boy sounds good- Azelias have such spunky little faces, it will work! I on the perfume, this is the first I’ve ever heard dolls having their own scent. That is next level What skin color is your Azelia? I follow someone on IG (I think you can search for their pics on DoA too) that has their Azelia on a NS Male Dollzone 60cm body and it looks good- very proportionate. I believe Azelia has a smaller head like my Annelise- it’s not like the older, bigger headed dolls. Found the photos on DoA. @Fits you have a very cute boy
That's funny! I was look at that exact body on Alice collections for mine wondering if it will work. My Azelia is NS too. I am a perfume fiend. I think it helps express their character, plus it's fun. My Lloyd, Leviathan wears Cthulhu from black phoenix alchemy lab. The scent is described as "A creeping, wet, slithering scent, dripping with seaweed, oceanic plants and dark, unfathomable waters." Which works perfectly on the Leviathan angle and the fact he's a Lovecraft horror nerd. My Elif, Belphegor loves zombie movies so I have Graveyard Dirt for him, also from the same company. I'm a bit over the top haha. I even have music playlists for each doll.
Omigosh that is just so cool- that sounds like a great way to get to know your doll and developing a character. The scent names are just so fitting for your crew And the song playlist!! This is so next level Can’t wait to see/hear what scent and playlist you give/ create for your Azelia O I forgot to add too, I’m waiting on a DF-H NS Pink body for my BBjorn head- I’ll post comparison pics with Annelise and the other NS DIMs I have. @AlisonVonderland did a comparison of DIM and other companies NS- Doll Leaves NS works really well with DIM and I saw in earlier posts, DF-H is also a good match.
