Doll Family H Discussion

Apr 7, 2010

    1. For some reason there's no discussion thread for these pretties. :D Well no more! I have one of my own being created as we speak and I think we need somewhere to talk about them. :aheartbea I don't care what is said really, if you want to talk about your characters or the clothes that fit by all means please do. :)

My boy's a Doll Family Lyre. As far as I know, there's only one other Lyre on the forum. I haven't even seen any of the DF girls, I'd be interested to hear about them.

      • x 1
    2. I don't believe I've seen any of the Doll Family sculpts. Could you give me a link to their site or pictures of their dolls? I'm always interested in seeing new dolls. If I'm reading this right, your Lyre will be the first doll you bring home? Congratulations on your order! Waiting is always the hardest part. Make sure to post pictures when you get him!

    3. I have never heard of them either and would like to know if there is a website as well.

    4. Doll family dolls are really quite lovely. Hubby has a Ling Yu boy who I really love. I used to have a Nuada on a girl body but girl dolls just don't work for me at all. I really love the Doll Family boy body (I like the girl body as well, but just can't bond with a girl doll). I love Poodle so much I am very tempted to buy a Doll Family boy of my own. I loved the look of Lyre and lingfeng. Just waiting to see owner pics to decide if one will work for a character of mine.

Both of the doll family dolls I've purchased have been bought from Jeeryama on ebay http://stores.ebay.com/DollsSinging__W0QQ_fsubZ223553017

    5. There already was a Doll Family discussion thread there, actually...

    6. Oh well. Honest mistake. I'm sure the mods will merge this thread with that one soon.

I did look at the dolls and I thought they had some interesting sculpts. I'm not certain if I'll end up buying one but I would like to see owner photos of them.

    7. Crud...I had seen that thread but I've stalked over DOA and forgotten even what I'd seen in my quest to find owner pics. Sorry about that guys.

    8. Bringing this back, I've just been looking at doll family on alice's collections and I thought they were pretty. :)
Also, not to be a fool but what is the difference between doll family a and doll family h?

      • x 1
    9. I used to own a Doll Family A? And my friend Kirya owned a Doll Family H....they were nothing alike, I think it's two different artists within the company.

    10. Oh I see! That's cool, thanks for the info. :) I was thinking about one of these bodies for my Zaoll. x)

    11. My friend and I only owned boy bodies, but I found that I think A body posed better, though the middle bit liked to pop out sometimes like he was leaning far back, I had the skinny boy body Doll family A, my friend has the Normal H body.

      • x 1
    12. That's awesome, thank you :)

    13. I have a Bei Lie doll from Doll Family H, ordered with a regular face-up instead of the scarred face-up. I have to say I think I scored with my first doll. This is just a little thing, but I love the box he was sent in. Most doll un-boxings that I've seen have cardboard boxes. Bei Lie's box was something a little sturdier than cardboard, and he was very well wrapped. I also got a pair of jointed hands with him as a gift, and the resin match was perfect. I'm really surprised there's not more Doll Family-H fans, especially because of some of the incredible sculpts they just came out with.

    14. I just bought Doll Family-A Que Wei. He is so amazing! Does anyone have a pictures of DF-A 1/3 (58cm - 62cm) head with 16mm and 14mm eyes? Photos, please <3

    15. I've got a Doll Family A Shana on layaway that I'm hoping to pay off within the next couple weeks. I'm so excited!

    16. Wow, such an abandoned thread! Hello ghosts of dollies past!!!

I had this idea to make a doll based on a character who rides a skateboard, and I got a loongsoul body for one of my floating heads. But the artist I sent her to to be given a faceup, made her look unlike the character I was thinking of :doh Gorgeous, though, and I'm flexible, so... I happened to see a Xiao Xin head for sale at Alice's collections for only $25 and she had that young girl look to me, so I figured I can't lose, you know? So I was wondering if anyone has a Xiao Xin to share photos of?

    17. I bought 2 Xiao Xin heads from Alice's Collections myself! One is normal skin and the other pink skin. I got my pink toned head done (my first faceup!), but I made him into a boy instead of a girl.

I think Doll Family sculpts are lovely! I have a Hu Xiaodao from DF-A I'm waiting on right now ^_^

    18. He looks awesome! What a great job for your first time! I really didn't think about it much, other than realizing if I want to make this character, I'd have to get another head. And then I saw it, only $25 and with some eyes n stuff, it was free shipping! How can I say no to that? Also, I have seen some stunning girls on a google image search, so... yah! I'm pretty excited! Thanks for popping by and saying hi :D @SynnfullKaydee :D

    19. Thanks! $25 is such a great deal! And free shipping is one of my favorite things ever :XD:
I hope you'll show off your Xiao Xin when you get her all done ;)

    20. This is my Doll Family H practice head. I modded his mouth (took away fangs) and did a not so great faceup for him. I'm experimenting on eyebrow techniques and, as you can see, watercolor pencil makes them look ragged and smeary. anyway here he is:

    21. Thank you @SynnfullKaydee , I will share when I get her and give her a faceup :)

@chrstphrl you did a great job removing them! Keep working on technique. With pencils, you have to make them super sharp which isn't easy. What some people do is to sharpen them on rough paper, or fine sandpaper by rubbing them sideways and refining the tip. I found I like watercolor paint and these paint brushes in size 0 or 1 to get a nice fine line (they seem thick, but have a very fine point. If you use watercolor, you can thin them down a lot (I get them in a tube, a high quality brand) and the brush thickness acts like a reservoir, but you still need to blot it on a paper towel not to get runny blotchy lines. It's the only thing I've found that works for me after many years trying :( And now I'm old with shaky hands, ugh! LOL The waterolor is easily removed with a damp q-tip, but acrylic paint sticks and won't come back off, even when you've just made the stroke! I'm still trying to get the technique of nice strokes that leave the line thicker on one end smoothly ending at a fine tip. So far, no go, LOL. OH, and one more thing I've learned: If you live in the USA only, the Winsor & Newton paint brush cleaner that's expensive as heck, takes off the faceup really easily, which makes the fear of trying again not so bad, and it's safe on resin. Just brush it on with an old toothbrush, let it sit a few seconds, then brush again, with a little more, and keep going until you got it off. Usually doesn't take much, so a 4 oz bottle should last quite a while. After you think you got it all, wash with water and dish soap with the same tooth brush, then go back to the brush cleaner if you see missed spots. Nothing works that easily, and I've tried acetone, magic eraser fingernail polish remover, ugh, nothing worked so easily! Unfortunately, it's not the same stuff in Europe or GB :(

Finally, for blushing with pastels, you can get away with cheap brushes (they get ruined easily) you just have to make sure they're really clean and dry :) I have been using expensive brushes, and I still get blotchy results, I see no difference :)

Gosh I hope that helps, I need to make a tutorial on products because although I'm not great at doing faceups, it took me forever to figure out these things! Everyone says to use acrylic paint, but that stuff sucks if you make a mistake! :D

Oh, one final tip!! With blushing or using pastels you have to make sure there is no clumps of color, because when you spray with MSC or whatever you use, it will run/bleed It's best to do light coats, blow it off with a duster even, if you can, get any excess off, and do another layer after a layer of MSC rather than try to make it dark the first time around.

    22. I can't help there, but beware, I think I saw a girl where the neck looked unnaturally long??? Really not sure though?? I really have not researched on DF much...

    23. Thanks for all the tips and the encouragement! I'm great at removing faceups. I did my MSD 5 times before I got tired and stopped. :D I too shake pretty badly so it's all on a learning curve to counteract that and being colorblind just makes it so much harder. I really don't enjoy doing them anyway but I can't afford to send any out. This guy I just thought I'd play with and maybe look towards getting him a body someday.

    24. Well, I hope it helps, I mean it was unsolicited advice, ROFLMAO. It just comes out of me, especially the paint brush and watercolor paint in a tube advice because I've struggled and struggled with getting brows and lashes to work. I mean, I am still cr@p at it, LOL, but the tools and materials work now, and before, It was impossible to get the paint to flow, or the lines fine. So those two things work far better than anything else I've ever tried! So I just want to spread the info so others don't bother with the acrylic which really doesn't work because it doesn't flow as well and won't wipe off! When you have the right materials, you can finally work on technique, or I could, rather than fighting with the tools and materials and feeling like throwing the precious doll against the wall,, LOL

    25. I'm really interested in some DF-H big boys, but I can never really find too much on them from owners :/

If anyone has (or has ordered) 'Zhenluo', 'Ghost General - Beilan', or 'General's Adviser - Lou Yunci', I'd love to see pics :)
Especially of 'Ghost General - Beilan' in a skin tone other than the grey in the company photos >w< And also 'Zhenluo' with a different type of faceup than in the company pics ^_^

      • x 1
    26. I'd be more than happy to see Luo too! He's on my wishlist and I'd like to see some owners' photos.

    27. My Lou Yunci should be here soon :D

      • x 1
    28. Oooohhh~ Can't want to see :D I'm likely to nab him as a head and he can share a body with the Zhenluo I'm planning on getting ^w^
Which body did you get your Lou Yunci on? I'm leaning toward the 65cm 3-part torso body (mainly because it works better for the character I'm planning the Zhenluo for).

    29. I'm really curious about those 70cm hands on the ghost guy Beilan, that thumb joint looks so innovative. But I haven't found them anywhere else, are they actually DF-H brand?

    30. @mincy I don't know, but they look a lot like these doll legend hands? I got a pair on order with short nails and I also look forward to seeing if the extra joint allows for more interesting poses :D

    31. @IngieBee Thank you! I totally agree. I would love to buy those, the long nails are so cute, but i dont have any 70cm dolls (´・ω・`) Interesting of them to use another company's hands if it is the case! :D

    32. @mincy yah, it is strange if that's the case, because they do seem to have their own line of jointed hands?

    33. @mincy I've only just noticed they're different to the 70cm hands they actually sell...
Like you and @IngieBee said, seems it might be from another company? I'm slightly more leaning towards them maybe being a new hand prototype that might be released though, since it seems odd to use another company's items when they have their own. :?

Also, speaking of jointed hands, does anyone know which jointed hands would work best on the 65cm body? 1/3 or 70cm? I'm guessing 70cm, but I really don't know how the proportions would look.

    34. My Shadow (General's Adviser - Lou Yunci) arrived yesterday! He is on a DF-H 65cm 2-part torso body, resin is tanned imported+jointed hands.
And I totally love and adore his face, beautiful lips and skin color. I love his body too.

I need to buy Amadiz wig for him, because bought him wigs in 8-9" size, but his head is more 9-10" for me.

    35. Congratulations! <3

Could you show us more photos of his face? He looks really nice!

    36. @SugarFirefly He is so beautiful! ^0^ I have that body too and it's gorgeous, so beautifully sculpted and a great poser (if strung a little loosely). And the tan is to die for. I would also love to see more pictures of his face! :love

    37. @SugarFirefly that tan is so nice :D Can't wait to see more pics :)
Are those hands the 70cm jointed ones?

    38. The hands @SugarFirefly has are different than the 70cm long nail hand I received with my Doll Family H Beilan order which have the extra thumb joint and are similar to the Doll Legend long nail with vein 70cm hands.

    39. OH those hands look nice and huge! I love 'em! They are from Doll Family, @americanseamstress ??

    40. @IngieBee

They came from Doll Family H with my Beilan order

    41. Very nice! I've made a note of 'em! :D

    42. @americanseamstress Did you order them separately, or did you get them as part of an event? Also, where did you order from? I'm curious as to if they're only available when you buy Beilan and not their other dolls.

    43. @BynByn93

I ordered them from Alice’s Collections during their 15% off sale on Beilan because, if I remember correctly, either the hands weren’t free with the order on DFH’s Taobao, or they charged extra, either way, Alice’s was cheaper. The hands came free with the body. I wish I had my Doll Legend Imported tan hands I dyed to check the color match, but they’ve been Dyed to match Dollshe Honey Caramel Brown now. I think Doll Lengends tan is more translucent. Perhaps they’re sister companies, along with Doll Family A or all three share the same caster.

    44. @americanseamstress I think it's the case that Doll Legend and DF-H use the same casting service, but (rather confusingly) DF-A does not. I know for a fact that DF-H and Doll Legend white is creamier and DF-A white is more stark, for instance.

I actually don't believe the two Doll Family companies have any relation to each other these days. Not sure how they started out, however.

    45. Oooh I see. I'm a little worried that if I order a Beilan in the future, and I'd like jointed hands for him, that he may be defaulted to the long nail ones >__< The long nail hands are pretty, but are of no use to me for what I plan to do with him :')
I guess I'll email AC nearer the time and ask about it :)

    46. Yes, of course :)

I will upload more photos on my Flickr or Instagram soon :)

I don't know, but I asked them for hands matching with 65 body :D

My Shadow (waiting for his eyes and dark curly hair atm, but I like him in blonde too)

    47. @bickazer

I don’t know for sure, but I remember reading an interview somewhere that Doll Family is two artists, and they split into A and H for easier business. I was assuming the A and H were initials, but maybe I’m wrong.

    48. Hey, anyone more familiar with DF-H know what the deal is with Qingyi? I stumbled upon his body on ACBJD and I fell in love, he's such an unusual size and I think his face is actually quite cute, even if it's a little dopey looking

Is he a limited release or something??? I gotta know!

Edit: Nevermind, I guess I was just a little early. :sweat I’m so sad he’s only available as a Fullset, I can’t justify paying so much just to wipe him...

    49. @0bsequi0us, you can always buy his body separately and head of normal Quingyi (it looks a little less dopey). :)

      • x 1
    50. Well that's the problem, now I've fallen in love with his dopeyness. But yeah, I was actually considering that! I've had my eye on the 1/4 version of that sculpt for a while.

    51. Haha, yes, his dopeyness is so cute! But I think you can get the same result with his normal head too. I hope they will decide to sell his limited jointed hands separately as well!

    52. Doll Family-H is having an event *heavy breathing*
The time has come to (hopefully) order a Zhenluo :D
I haven't bought a doll in maybe 4 years or so, so it feels strange >w<
I'm planning on getting him blank, on the 65cm 3-part torso body (may get the heel feet for him too).
Going to order some clothes for him too (though I have some still around from the SD17/70cm boys I used to own), so I can get free shipping :3

Slightly off topic, but, in the photos for Zhenluo it looks like they're using eyes with small irises in him. Does anyone know where to get eyes like that (glass, preferably)? Most places I've seen only do them occasionally or through pre-orders every few months, but I'd like somewhere that does them on a regular basis or always has them available.

    53. Apologies for the double post, but I got some answers back from Alice's Collections about some questions I had. They might come in handy for someone else :)

The 65cm boy bodies are compatible with the 70cm jointed hands they have.
The 70cm heeled feet measurements are 8.7cm in length and 3.4cm in width.
It's a shame the heel feet are so much bigger than standard SD/SD16 heel feet. Kind of makes it a bit redundant to have heel feet that won't fit the vast majority of heeled shoes...

    54. I see a lot of Beetles eyes on Taobao that offer small irises. I think you can get them via KOKDoll or Stacy's Pink Ocean, but I just buy from Taobao.

Oof, this event has me tempted to get my Long Xiu. I miiight start a layaway for him. Maaaaybe I will add Lang Ya too. :D

    55. I've just seen that DF-H are selling the new ballet feet and sets of 1/3 hands separately (link), which I'm sure weren't listed before...? The hands are very cute so I think I'll pick up a couple of pairs, but I'm stuck on colour. If anyone has any recent pictures or links to pictures of DF-H's normal yellow, I'd really appreciate it! <3

    56. Has anyone see owner photos of Long Xiu or does anyone here have him, especially with the company faceup? I'm planning on getting the head for a character of mine but I'm not having luck finding any photos at all.

    57. I've been stalking around for Long Xiu pictures too and so far haven't found anything. :sigh It doesn't seem like he's too popular, unfortunately.

    58. I ordered one last month on layaway, eventually I will see him. I got him in tan and with the faceup they show him with, I hope it turns out like the picture. He is on long layaway though, so it will be a while. I do hope more pictures crop up at some point. I love that face, he looks so unsure. XD

    59. Ooh, a tan Long Xiu, awesome! I'll eagerly await his arrival too. :3nodding:
