Resin Comparison Doll Family H and Mystic Kids and...?

Nov 28, 2023

    1. Does anyone have a comparison of dolls from this maker? Or happen to know if they can resin match with a similar sample (I know some makers will match luts white, mia white/pink, soom light tan etc.)

I'm thinking of WS for this doll but I am also very interested in any other color possibilities that may be out there :whee:

I would also appreciate any MK comparisons to other resins, and DFH to other resins, that I could cross reference with each other. For example I read that MK WS is really close with Myou WS if anyone has DFH and Myou to compare.

    3. So, here's the problem. I have a hodge-podge of this, that, and the other. I'll throw some dolls together and take some pics, but I may not have what you're looking for.

    4. Here's a collection of white resin I have:
      Doll-Family H and Myou are more yellow-toned.
Dream Valley is lightly yellow and a little gray.
Little Monica and Soul Doll have a pink undertone.
Impldoll, Dollmore, Doll Chateau, Luts, and Iplehouse whites (in 2023, anyways) are more of a "paper" white - as in white like paper.

And here's the reason why I am literally the worst person to ask about this.
Tl;dr - exact resin matching is impossible, unless you plan to ship the part to be matched to a company that offers resin matching as a service (that you must pay for).

Exhibit A: Myou BoHe 45 cm head (white resin, late 2023) on Myou 44 cm female body, version 3 (also white resin, early 2023):
Both ordered from ACBJD. Both head and body made by Myou in 2023. Head is cool, bluish white. Body is warm, yellowish white.
That's just how resin be. Sometimes, one of the colors mixed into the resin decides to pull a Madonna and express itself.

    5. Thank you, although I can't view the link that you shared, I understand what you mean :3nodding:
I'm not too pressed about exact matches, but you know how sometimes a WS from one maker matches the NS of the other? :sweat
I am more or less trying to avoid the situation of a body considerably lighter resin than the head. I don't like handling dolls with body blushing. So "trending pretty similar" is about all I hope for, and your pictures are very helpful with that so thank you!

    6. Basically - BJDs are made from 2-part epoxy resin. If you search for images of 2-part epoxy resin, you'll see two jugs of clear liquid.
All BJDs have color powder added to them to make them a specific color. Companies use "recipes" (generally based on weight or mass) that they mix into resin to get a relatively consistent color across their lines - but sometimes, resin decides to be a finicky little bastard and cure in a slightly different shade. Or in BoHe's case, the yellow decided today was The Day To Shine! on the body, and blue decided today was Blue Day! for the head.
Resin is not terribly stable - within a year or two, the color starts to change due to exposure to sunlight and plain old air. It's a normal process. Within 5 to 10 years, you're going to have a doll that is a different shade of the color it used to be.
There's a reason why resin is called "poor man's plastic" - it does not have the stability or durability of, say, a Barbie doll. It is much harder to maintain consistency of color in a resin BJD than it is a Barbie.
So if you get an exact match - congratulations! But don't expect it. I always caution anyone considering hybriding to plan to do a little color matching. The head is easier, but if you get a professional face-up, a light dusting of powder on the body will match things up nicely.

    7. When it comes to the body, it's not that it's hard to do it, I just hate to feel the texture of the sealant.:sweat:sweat
It's one of those weird pet peeves. Like eating blueberries. My brain rejects them
Satin, semigloss, matte, soft touch, customized blends. I hate them all equally :thumbup So if I get to choose the details, I'm going with none of the above.

I have a fullset doll who is yellowed and even though it's a bit uneven doesn't make me love her any less. It's only a severe and fundamental mismatch that concerns me.
I hear that Myou's white is particularly unstable and I think MK is somehow affiliated so I kind of expect it from them as well.
I've been collecting since the 2000s when no doll's colors were particularly stable. Yellowing and mellowing is normal in my eyes.
