Doll Family A Discussion - part 2

I saw a case where the color was adjusted by sending the latest MB sample to DF-A, but there was no choice but to have some color difference. There's someone who's already tried it. I hope it helps.

 

I recently ordered a DF-A doll on the 62cm boy body (body 5?) and I'm wondering if he's a better fit for SD17 clothes or SD13. I already have a 65cm/SD17 from another company and am hoping they can share lots of stuff.

 

@Miss_Lovely791 I can't speak for that specific body, but I have a few dolls in that size range, and they can fit some clothes made for 65cm dolls. The biggest issue is usually the length, and then after that depending on brand some clothes can be to loose. SD13 clothes usually fit the best overall.

 

I got SD13 size clothes for my boy and they fit well. I don't own any SD17 clothes but I feel like it should mostly work.

 

hi everyone! i have a small question, does anyone can measure the length and width of DF-A jointed hands 1/3 for boy body? I have same hands but for 68 which is a bit larger than i want them to be. Before ordering I'd love to know the measurements of 1/3 jointed hands to be sure they won't be too small

I've been eyeing DF bodies female 1/3 size to make a hybrid and would like to know how they are with regards to pose.
I have a maskcat doll body and it's a very good posing body and I'd like to get an equally good one.

I only have the boy bodies, but they're all pretty good posers.

I have the 68cm girl body at home and I am a big fan of it. It poses smoothly and can even stand on one foot without any aid. Only downside is that it’s difficult to find shoes for as the feet are pretty wide. I also didn’t like the default hands so I put DC youth hands on her.

No problem! Which head where you thinking? I have an Azalea at home that I can test for you on this body too

The DFH 63cm body is great, poses smoothly and has a wider torso range than the dfa one as I got the 3 part torso for her. I can do a proper pose off comparison between the two bodies as well, one thing to note is that the dfh has rather small feet

 

I'm thinking about Kamara for the 68cm body, but honestly I'd just like to know if any of the girl Impldoll sculpts can fit neck-wise.

 

Hello! I've been longing for a new doll for a while and I finally decided I'm definitely getting one of the Doll Family A 62cm boys later this year (maybe as a Christmas gift for myself). However I like multiple head sculpts equally. If you have Max, MX, or Lauer, could you add photos here please?

I saw gorgeous versions of them among the doll profiles already but would love to see more. Especially Lauer, I could only find one of him. And I can't seem to find photos of just the blank head either!

I want to say I also like Cyril but maybe not as much as the other three? Why are all of them so good looking haha. A couple of months ago I thought I wanted a smaller Luts doll and I was struggling to pick a favourite from them too.

Hello! I'm looking at getting a blank DFA Max, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the wait times have been like lately? I'm trying to decide if it would be better to place the order now if it'll be a 5+ month wait or to hold off for a little longer.

 

I just got my DF-A 68cm girl body and omg she's amazing . My hybrid seems to work out pretty well too. But I'll need to wait for sunlight (it's the middle of the night here) before I can fully judge that.

Personally I much prefer this body to the DF-H 63 & 58 cm girl bodies. The elbow joints are so much more mobile. I'll try to take some comparison pics in December .

 

Congrats on the arrival! I’m also a big fan of the DF-A 68cm girl body, it poses nicely and effortlessly. I do prefer it to the DF-H 63cm body too for posing. It’s a nice and slender body. Did you find shoes for it? I have some big boots on mine as her feet are too wide for regular SD girl shoes…

 

Heel feet: Her heel feet are a bit more narrow than her flat feet. I noticed her heel feet fit basically all of the 1/3 heels I own (mostly SDF Luts and SD16 Volks shoes). However I do think most of my 1/3 girls have slightly wider feet than what is the standard nowadays.

Flat feet: Not all of my 1/3 flat shoes fit her flat feet. But she can wear shoes for shorter 1/3 boys. And I am pretty sure she has a similar shoe size as EID women.

 

Has anyone else ordered the DFA merman? Mine will be on layaway for a few more months yet and I'm dying to see owner pictures to tide me over.

 

Could someone kindly confirm the neck circumference on the 62cm version 5 body for me, please? If it is the 9.5cm stated on the measurement listings, it’s going to be a real contender for an artist’s head I’ve ordered. But won’t work if it’s thinner than that (there was some speculation being made back in the early page 30’s about it possibly being only 8.5cm)

Nevermind, it looks like the older versions of the 62cm body aren’t available anymore, so there’s no point in my asking questions about them.

 

Does anyone know which DFA heads have been discontinued? A friend of mine inquired about a couple of heads that are still as if available but when upon asking they were told they're not produced anymore.

 

Hi, does anyone own DF-A Yuxiu? I am especially interested in seeing her face either as blank one or with make-up because promo photos are defo touched up a lot and there are no photos of the face without make up. :/

 

Doll Family is refreshing their entire line I think. Because DF-H really only have three sculpts left in their 70cm line...
I'd go with if it's not on ACBJD it's probably discontinued. Which stinks because I wanted a Long Xiu

Wow! I’m so bummed! I went to take advantage of the Autumn Event Promotion for DF-A, and was told by Alice’s Collection, and Legend Doll, that DF-A has suddenly discontinued ALL their dolls. All of them! No notice - no nothing.

What dah what!? I had wanted to order a 68cm Hui Song, but he is gone! I’m heartbroken.



They are still selling bodies, but I wonder what happened for them to discontinue all their lovely dolls so suddenly.

 

Whoa! That is crayzee news, @Rabbit-moon! That makes me sad.

 

I understand that nowadays, Doll Family-A is mainly collaborating with independent sculptors to cast indie heads and provide bodies for them. I think they also cast full dolls for several other doll makers in an OEM kind of way.

This info is anecdotal, I got it through my discussions with friends who follow the Chinese BJD community. So I can't directly reference this information. But this would explain why companies like DF-H and DF-A no longer cast their self-branded head sculpts, and are going forward with being body-only makers and OEM doll casters for other independent sculptors. DF-A hasn't released a new head sculpt under their own branding for several years already. I don't think this head discontinuation was broadcast on Chinese social media either.

 

Yes, Valdemagra, it makes me sad, too. DF-A had been making dolls as long as I can remember. Talk about an end of an era. I had also wanted to get a 70cm Mu. I could kick myself. Why-oh-why did I wait so long?

I don’t understand why DF-A didn’t announce the discontinuation, so Doll Family fans could still get the dolls they wanted before they were gone forever. It seems so heartless not to give people a heads-up.

Maybe someday DF-A will come back with their own sculpts again. I sure missed the boat this time in getting the boys I wanted. The lesson I’ve learned: If there’s a doll you want…get it! Because it could disappear tomorrow.

I had a look through DF-A's Weibo history. It's pretty sparse, and their major releases over the last 3-4 years centre around new bodies, usually with a head to go with them, but those heads are gone from their Taobao store while the bodies are still there. The last 68-70 uncle-sized head sculpt they announced was back in 2021. (edit: Oh, I found Hui Song - pronounced Hui Chong in pinyin - he was released in April 2021.) Currently the DF-A Taobao store is quite bare, only bodies and hand parts. I have a feeling they've transitioned into a primarily OEM doll-casting factory now, ie. they're the manufacturer for other doll sculptors, who release and promote under their own brands.

I note that they made periodic announcements, from 2023 onwards, that they were a reputable casting factory, and they invited independent sculptors to cast their dolls with them. It's entirely possible they switched their doll casting to OEM at around this time, and maybe that's when their discontinuations happened? If they announced it on the Chinese side, it'd be through socmed channels that I don't use. And who knows when they stopped paying attention to their international fans anymore...

I'm really sorry that you weren't able to get the dolls you wanted, I remember you also encountered this with DF-H's sculpts. I think the limited-time preorder model is very much the status quo for Chinese head sculpts now, for better or for worse. Yes, you may have to get the heads you want sooner rather than later.

 

Oh, I am in shock. One of my first SD boys was from them, and most of my pet dolls. That so sad to think they won't have dolls anymore.

Yes RabbidBunnies, it’s very sad. Hopefully, since they did not close their doors completely, maybe they will come back someday with new sculpts.

 

I am very sad to learn that DFA has discontinued all their sculpts. They had such beautiful dolls there were so many that I wanted.

I am thankful I bought Chris when I did.

 

I agree Zacarias. There were so many dolls I thought I'd be able to buy from DF-A someday.

my Dimon,I originally ordered him on the 75 but DFA said half way in my waiting time that it was impossible to get him on the 75 and I got him on the 70 body instead,don't get me wrong I'm really glad I got him but I'm bumped out that I didn't get him on 75 body

Here’s another boy I had hoped to get. DF-A Nick. I thought he was so cute and expressive with those full lips. Does anyone own this fine boy? Would love to see owner pixs.

(It’s so sad that DF-A does not keep an archive of their old sculpts. Once they discontinue a sculpt, it’s gone, as if it never existed. T_T)

He is so delicate. He is one of may favourites. (Don't tell my other dolls.)

BTW, I just saw in the DOA News Section that DF-A has released a new doll; a 1/4 boy sculpt. I wonder why they felt the need to discontinue all their other dolls, only to turn around and present one new 1/4 boy?
