Doll Family A Discussion - part 2

Jan 11, 2015

    1. Does anyone have any experience with the mellowing of DF-A’s tan resin?

Thinking of getting one but I can’t find any reviews about their mellowing and how fast it goes. :(

    2. TokyoLynn, sorry I can't help you with your question about the 70cm/75cm bodies, but I just had to comment on your considering a DF-A Dimon. He's gorgeous! Such a handsome sculpt! I keep looking at him and thinking I need to add this boy to my crew. (Please excuse the fangirling :sweat)

If and when I get a Dimon I will probably go with a 68cm body, just because I like slender, less muscular bodies. Additionally, I think it would be easier to find clothes for him, since 70cm clothes would fit him, and 70cm clothes are offered everywhere. But, that's just my personal bias.

If you go back through this thread there is some discussion about the differences between the 70cm and 75cm bodies. The 70cm body is said to be pretty muscular and bulky. Someone mentioned having some difficulty getting 70cm clothes to fit his bulk. I guess it just depends on what you are specifically looking for in a body.

(Oh! And love the photo of your DZ Yuu avatar! Good luck! :thumbup)

    3. @Rabbit-moon I'm leaning more towards the 75cm body to be honest. I feel like I might have an easier time finding clothes for him, especially since Luts now sells 75cm clothing. But I'm probably gonna check out the 68cm body too just to keep my options open.

(Thank you! He's my handsome old banana. Haha)

    4. :D:D
Angeles, thank you, I really appreciate your help, I just bought DF-A jointed hands for SD17 in off-white last month because I worried that the Ns yellow or Ns pink is too vivid for Luts Ns body since Luts looks nearly white. His hands still on processing time, I will post the comparison skin tone when them finish too.
Congratulations on your DFA Jiuyu, that's surprise fast, please share his pic then :D

    5. Is he the big chest one? :wiggle His clothes would be hard to find because his thighs and his chest bigger than most previous 70cm dolls from Luts (SSDF), Sadol (Star70), ...
If you want to find normal shirt or straight jeans you can buy from Nine9style, Sadol, Crobidoll, ... They have some lines clothes for SSdF or 70cm dolls but of course very limited.
More option for you is Korean private shops, you can buy them from Etsy (you can search them on Instagram first), super expensive, such as Dk Craft shop, Theo-dore. Their clothes even for SD17 still fit 70cm dolls.
Otherwise you can buy from Taobao, because DFA 70 from China that’s why Taobao has some shops that sell clothes for their domestic dolls like Popo 68 and DfA70. Some of them are especially expensive because the size is abnormal. Most of people have this doll body must buy product from China or from doll tailor-made shops. I have a SSDF from Luts and believe me I rarely used this body, how many clothes I tried to buy he didn't fit in :doh so I sewed for him some new clothes and kept him in box when I’m lazy.

    6. Does anyone have Bibi? I am waiting on one. Will be my first DFA doll.

    7. You know, I had totally forgotten to post the resin comparisons here on DOA! I did post him to my Instagram though, here are a couple of the comparison photos with a Luts head and Dollfamily A body. The body is too pink, which makes sense because it's the Pink DFA body, and the Luts head is their "Normal" color.

    9. Does anyone here happen to have a comparison for DF-A tan and normal yellow or pink?

    10. The new 65cm male bodies that just came out look pretty good!

    11. My Susu became Afra Lyon after he and the Islanddoll body were dyed green. His clothes came in this week and now he is done to my critic's satisfaction. Though he is probably a bit greener than he should be we like him.

I'm going to use another Susu to try and make Victor Nikiforov from Yuri on Ice. My Ringdoll Pan will be his Yuri.

    12. How do people like the 68 cm girl body? I hear a lot about the boy one but would love a better look at the girl, especially the large chest size from the side.

    13. I have this body, but with the small bust, and it is amazing at holding poses. A thing to note though is that it is much shorter than 68cm. My girl is a hybrid and only about 65cm in height.

The body can easily stand on one foot without sueding or wiring.

The hands are ugly, so I replaced them with Doll Chateau Youth jointed hands, which are a tad big in the wrist, but overall a good fit. One more thing I'd like to mention is that the feet are a bit wide, so finding shoes can be tricky.

    14. @IzabethS
Oh that looks so gorgeous! What a champion poser!
can I see her from the side, if possible?
Anything other than the hands and feet width that annoys you?

    15. Sure thing, here’s a pic from the side and the front, compared to the Impldoll SGB girl body. I do not have any other complaints about the body, it is very leggy and lovely. If you like to,or row I can compare it to my DF-H 63cm girl body.

    16. I have a couple of questions for those of you who have the 68cm boy body. Are the measurements on the website accurate? Also, which version of the body did you go with (two piece or three piece) and why? Also how well does it pose?

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading my Soom Chalco to this body. He's on the original SG body and while it is nice to look at, it's very stiff and has limited poseability.

    17. @IzabethS
Oh she's so pretty! Thinner than I thought but less swayback than some of the pictures looked. I think I'm sold on it! =)

How is it to find clothes for? I sew most of my own since the dolls I have are the Resinsoul elongated bodies, and I was hoping to go for a more 'average' build than that.

    18. I love the body too! She can fit easily in most skirts, and regular SD tops, but I haven't found pants yet she can wear. Might have to steal my only SD16 set off pants off another doll to try on her. Getting normal SD panties onto her booty is also a challenge, as she's very hippy and has quite the trunk on her.

    19. @IzabethS
Oh that's awesome! Thank you so much for the help with this, I ordered her ;)
Let me know if the SD16 pants fit!

    20. What are the current wait times for DF-A?

    21. Hi there everyone

I just ordered a Suyan head to go on my DF-A 68cm body but wondered if anyone here with a Suyan could measure his head for me because I've had 2 DF-A heads before, bought wigs in advance of their arrival & found the circumference listed massively off? Their recommended eye sizes are never right either ha-ha! :doh

    22. My DF-A 68cm body, ordered via Alice's Collection, came within 3 months. Same with 2 blank DF-A heads... actually one of them arrived in 2 months. :thumbup

    23. I have that body & I got the 2 part torso as personally I'm not a fan of the whole 'resin underpants' look but I'd imagine the range of poses he can pull off will be better with the 3 part.

He's very solid & sturdy standing unaccompanied & his posing ability is pretty decent too. DF-A resin is lovely & smooth with zero seam lines.

I measured him quickly & most of the measurements listed at Alices Collection are correct but I found the hips to be 1cm less on mine & the narrowest part of his waist is just under 20cm. Also his feets are 8x3cm by me. Hope that helps ^__^

    24. Thank you so much for answering my question! Now to figure out if I should actually go through with this plan.

    26. You're welcome... just realised I added an erroneous 's' and wrote "feets" - whoops! :doh

It's a really nice body especially if, like me, you prefer a more slender male doll rather than the more prominent 'beefcake' look.

    28. If it helps any (sorry I'm late to the party) I'm a crazy person who keeps track of when I buy dolls and receive them on a spreadsheet..
I did a layaway with my Jiuyu on 01/08 through Alice's Collection, had him fully paid off by 03/01 and he arrived at my house on 04/03. So it was right at 2 months. <3

    29. Not crazy! I do the exact same thing.

    30. @Angelesk That's actually a really awesome idea. Wish I had started something like that. :D

    31. Lol. It really comes in handy sometimes!
I also put how much I paid for the doll, where they were purchased from, if they were limited, if I expect them to appreciate or depreciate in value, any distinguishing features, sculpt name, resin color and what I call them. :sweat

It's really more for my family if worse case scenario happens, but it's become a habit. I wasn't always this crazy, I swear!

    32. @Angelesk I downloaded one onto my phone today and input all the orders I'm currently waiting on. I love it! XD

    33. So I grabbed a pair of DFA 75 cm jointed hands that were in stock at Alice Collections yesterday, and added a Susu head since they're so inexpensive...and I have really been liking the pics I've seen of him.

Do you all like their jointed hands? Are they nice? How big is Susu?

I'm hoping he'll go on a body I have already (which has a head, but I think it looks too large on the body now that I'm so used to pinheads), and if he can, he'll get some mods. Eventually. Cause that's how I roll...

    34. @VampireAngel13 I have two pair of their smaller jointed hands for their 65 and 68cm dolls and I really like them. I thought they held poses well, and they came strung. However, they're also the only jointed hands I own so take my opinion with a grain of salt.:sweat

    35. Thanks @Cloudedmind I appreciate your opinion! I mean, if the only hands I had were Dollzone 65, I'd still hate them XD So that you like the DF hands, is great!

I hope they fit the body I bought them for. It's using RS hands right now and they're only just about worth the price I paid for them. I would like some hands that have some mobility in the fingers....

    36. @VampireAngel13 If you have some hand poses you'd like to see I can try to get them for you this weekend.

    37. @Cloudedmind thanks! I really can't think of anything I need. I hope the fingers can spread lol but I don't have any real desires other than that!
They have already shipped O_O so I guess they were really in stock!

    38. Susu is fit for 60cm and up. I have him on an Island doll 60cm that I dyed.
      [IMG]Afra by SteamWitch, on Flickr

He does look a bit bobble headed on the thin Island doll but he is wearing a lot of clothing with wide shoulders so it doesn't show.

    39. Can anyone recommend what size I should go for when shopping for DF-A 70cm male body?
Taobao shops/etsy shops appreciated. Thank you!

    40. @SteamWitch thanks!! Believe it or not, he showed up yesterday (while Dad was in surgery!). when I finally got home I was able to relax a little, and I tried him on the body I wanted him to go on - good news is, it works great proportionately, but he needs a little modding to fit the neck. I'd rather do the head, but I don't think that's an option, so, neck mod.

The bad news is, the hands don't work at all - they're way too big! Something I didn't even think could happen XD which was super-depressing because after Soom, they are now my favorite jointed hands by far. They're really nice!
I tried them on my Dollshe 28M body and they work for him, so now I have to figure out how to paint or dye them red and black so they can be Spider-Man's hands. Which will save me a ton of modding. Sadly I have like, 7 extra pairs of Dollshe hands now XD

    41. So a while back I ordered some practice heads through Alice’s Collections and they arrived a few weeks ago—finally had a chance to open them today and... they stink. Both of them. Very strong sharp resin/chemical smell kind of like wet paint. Even my husband who was sitting across the room while I opened my mail suddenly looked up and said “what is that SMELL? :ablah:

Has anyone else had this happen? Does it go away? Should I contact Alice’s Collections? I’m afraid to touch these heads with my bare hands...

    42. @Havra Not with Doll Family or Alice's Collections, but I have had it happen with a doll head I ordered. I left the head out in open air for a few days and the smell did fade over time, but I can still smell it faintly if I open the head up and smell directly inside. As far as I can tell, the smell hasn't transferred to any of my other dolls.

    43. @Audrina Mystique Thank you for your input. I put the heads in the garage overnight, unwrapped, so they could air out. I was pleasantly surprised this morning to discover the smell was gone. I’m thinking it was just new heads sitting wrapped up in an airtight box for weeks before being opened. I think the natural offgassing must have slowed/stopped by now.

    44. @Havra I'm glad I could help!

    45. Hello, I'm still new to BJDolls so I'm sorry if this is already answered but I could not find a straight one. Felt I could find it here but maybe I'm looking too hard but anyways.
I understand that the Doll Families are the same company but different artists? Do they use the same resin as well or is there some skin tone difference?
I ask because I have a DF-A tan head ("1/6 Little Peach head" ?), that I'm finally looking to use and am leaning toward a DF-H body (Chubby 1/6 body) of course also tan, but I know tan is a real big range to match out in the BJD world. I've looked at several pictures from the two forums but I'm still iffy on it, plus lighting always makes a big difference.
If DF-A's skintone is too different I'll settle for just buying a DF-A body.

    46. @PixieVenus DF-A and DF-H are not the same company and I believe (although someone correct me if I'm wrong) that none of their resins match each other perfectly.

    47. I have both DFA and DFH dolls and I can confirm that at least their normal pink doesn't match perfectly. They have different resin too, DFH tends to be more shiny while my DFA is more matte.

    48. @Cloudedmind Ah okay! I was under the impression they were the same company due to how it's described on the wiki page for it here.
@Rurimas Ok thank you! If their normal colors don't even match than their tan most likely won't.

    49. Yeah, both company tans are probably not a match. But I'm sure you can ask for color matching, I saw someone that did it for an hybrid between dfa and dfh. The thing to note is that DFH tan is known to be on the shiny side, while I never heard so for DFA tans

    50. @PixieVenus I think they were at one point a single company with two lines as the Wiki says but my understanding is that they split into separate companies many years ago.

DF-A and DF-H were both included on this list of companies which offer resin matching services for an additional fee if you're set on a DF-H body. Not sure if its outdated though! I'd check with the seller you're thinking of buying the body through.
      Custom coloured BJD

    51. DF-H and DF-A still offer resin matching services.

    52. Has anyone tried the newer 65cm male body with the 58-62cm heads?

      • x 1
    53. Can anyone compare DF-A normal pink and volks normal skin?

    54. also interested in this for Merlin

    55. I have a Dollzone Snow at home I can try on my 65cm DF-A body if you like? He’s intended for 62cm bodies

    56. @IzabethS Sure that would be great, thank you. :)

    57. I would also be super interested in seeing this !
      Thank you in advance.

    58. Hello! I have been wanting to make a hybrid body match for my Switch milk tea rose 65cm head. I want a body that is slightly shorter than their 65 boy. I like both the Doll Family H 62cm body and the Dollzone 62cm body.
However, I'm having a really hard time finding color comparisons for ANYTHING to the milk tea rose.
What do you guys think? Would the DZ pink skin or the Doll Family H pink skin be close enough to blush match?

    59. @Gypsum DFH does resin matching so you could get the body resin matched to milk tea rose. I don't think DZ's pink or DFH's own pink resin is a close match to milk tea rose. Also, what head are you thinking of putting on the bodies? I have a DFH 62cm body and a few Switch heads.

    60. @Gypsum - As stated DFH can just make the body matched to milktea rose. Regarding your question I have a Switch milktea rose head and a DFH normal pink body and the milktea rose is darker than the normal pink, the head can not be blushed to match unless you paint over the entire thing.
