Wow, great tutorial! I suddenly had an entertaining idea: cat or dog hair? I have a white german shepherd dog and a grey-and-white cat, and both of them shed tons in the spring time. I bet one could gather up the shed, carefully group it together, and make natural lashes out of fur! The idea makes me giggle, but it might just work...
I actually purchased some human real hair eyelashes and was looking how to alter and attach them and I think this will help a lot, thanks
oooo, I might have to try this for my bygg's lashes. I want her to have turquoise hair so maybe I can dye some natural brush bristels to match...
Ohhh, wow~ This is great. I've been using human fake eye lashes but they're so spaced apart that they don't look good. I will have to pick up some paint brushes!
Thanks for this tutorial! I'm thinking of doing this for my doll since her defaults were too long and spaced out. I could probably use a makeup brush (has natural hairs) that I don't think I have a use for it anymore (used it once and that's it).
I did it and it worked well! It only took a thin line of hairs so the brush is still usable even. :3 (It wasn't a very expensive brush, but it was very eyelashy.) Graah, I should have cut off more of the tape part to begin with. I thought I could just shave it off the back with an exacto once the lashes were in, but it's not cutting easily. The eyes still fit though, even though it's sticking into the sockets a tiiiny bit.
OMG awesome! Thankyou so much for this tutorial Just finished making some and it was fairly easy due to these detailed instructions. I was at wit's end for getting the right colour and wipsy-ness...One of the make-up brushes that I used for faceups had exactly what I wanted...and making them is so cheap in materials.
a great 1st time mod for anyone delving into BJD's imo, looks easy enough to do, and will now try to make a couple sets myself =D
A nice tutorial. But if you use acrylic paint to coat the lashes you should have a complete coverage, so dark brushes shouldn't be a problem.
You can buy smaller lashes at a good beauty supply meant for humans and they work just fine. You can also add curl (careful here now) with a hot spoon or the metal end of a tail comb. I have seen a variety of glues used to good effect, usually a white tacky glue or regular school glue (Elmers, at any store) I don't have any idea why someone would bother to cut up a good brush for eyelashes, unless it was for a specific color or texture, as in the doll with the white lashes in the post above. A good artist's brush is way more expensive than any pair of eyelashes and if you use a crap brush it will look like just that. You can get gorgeous lashes for less than 5 bucks. Seriously folks.
This is an interesting tutorial! I've been trying to get eyelashes to stick on my girl but they keep looking dumb. D: Thanks!
Yay! My family used to buy us cheap brushes thinking because we like art they would be the perfect gift, obviously they didn't paint too well but now I know they can be used for something even better! Thanks so much!
Great tutorial and fabulous idea! I'm just not too sure about the fact that you leave the "hairs" attached to the tape when you apply the lashes to the doll. How can that possibly look "realistic"? You'd have to practice this many times, I think, before you get it right. I'd have to work out a way to apply those lashes w/o the tape attached. That really bugs me. Sorry.
Wow wonderful tutorial, thank you so much I will try that on my girl I love the thickness of the brush, the usual one that came with the doll are so thin
Thank you so very much. This seems a good method to create eyelashes really in the color you want. The artificial ones for humans you get in drugstores are very limited regarding colors.
WOW! Thank you so much! I defenitly WILL try that! ^^- You make wonderfull tutorials! And the eyelashes are pretty .__.
This is a great tutorial. Thanks for posting it. I always use artificial ones for my other doll collection (vinyl play dolls). I didn't know this can be done. I will definitely try this on my vinyl dolls. I am new at BJDs and still waiting for my 1st 2 SDs from Angelsdoll.
Thanks so much for this! I made two pairs for our KDFs, and they turned out pretty good, and so far an eyelash curler has worked perfectly to shape them. I skipped over the paint step, but so far they seem to hold the curl nicely (unless I get white glue on them).
Very useful, thanks! Yesterday I was thinking about a change of the face-up on my doll and I decided to make it more warm. So I need another color of the lashes and I'll try to make it by myself.
I've made two pairs of lashes using this method and the lashes I made are far superior to any commercially-made lashes I have. I just love them
This is an excellent tutorial! Easy to understand and the pictures help alot. Thank you for posting this. I will definitely be trying this.
You can also use human hair dye on natural fiber brushes (before it's cut works better) to get neat lashes too.
What a great idea! I'd given up on finding white eyelashes. Definitely going to hit the art store this week to try making my own. Thanks! (subscribing too!)
