Doll doppelgängers

I'm not observant enough to notice such similarities, but I am here to provide an entirely uninsightful portmanteau that amused me:
Dollpergängers...

 

- makes perfect sense to me.

 

Kid Sky's Marian and Mystic Kids' Lillian are sister dolls to me. They have a similar aesthetic and are styled with the same pink-gray kind of color for their wigs (just in different shades). Even their names are twinning!

 

Maskcat Astrid has always reminded me of the Dollshe Saint sculpt. They could definitely pass as siblings.

 

Black cherry Aishat and dollshe saint have sibling vibes to me, and as does Argodoll Zet and dollshe Amanda. It’s a little more of a reach, but I also feel like FHSH S. Rei and Twigling’s Pieta give sibling vibes.

I definitely see it! Plus, Lillian looks quite similar to Unoa Lusis, to me. There's been several times where I was scrolling Alice's Collections, saw Lillian's thumbnail, and thought "Alice sells Unoa's now???"


My contribution is: Supia Yan and Doll Zone Little Snow. Definitely a big sister/little sister situation, but I think their mouths are quite similar, as are the proportions between the facial features... (if you squint a little...)

 

Supia Hael scratches the Volks F-01 / four sisters itch I have had for years — I didn’t even realize it until I was flipping through images.

 

I see that is quite a few of them. I'll like a certain doll and then notice that quite a few look a lot like it.

 

I came back to hobby in 2020 - not so long ago. Even since then, I see the shift in "trends" in multiple doll makers, thus some look very similar.

 

I seen a photo of Spirit doll snowdrop and she reminded me of Dimdoll Flora I use to own. Very similar when painted the same in my opinion.

 

Luts Summer 2010 event head was my favorite doll for several years, and every time I'd see Crobidoll Lance, I'd think they look very similar depending on the faceup.

5Star Doll Edmund and Dollmore Kara Klum, though the sizes are very different despite both being in the 1/3 range. I think it's the lidded eyes, slightly turned down mouth and nose shape.

Weirdly, Dollzone Mo and Little Rebel Svein. They're two completely different styles, yet I've always felt like Mo is very anime aesthetic, but if he were a little more realistic, he'd look like Svein.

Doll Chateau Snowborn and Dollzone Benjamin. They both have that really weird thin face, long skinny pointy nose and thin lips, and they both kind of creep me out.

 

I always thought Dollstown Hue and Supiadoll Giyon looked very similar. The Supia boy looks more mature and sexy, while Hue looks like a young man going through those akward teens.

They definetely look similar! And I love the name twinning, hahaha.

I can see the similarities, they could be a younger-older brother relationship (?) Good catch!


I know I've seen other examples, but right now my brain is not cooperating... If I remember one, I'll come back to post it.

 

Actually, I had been this effect with some Gem of Doll sculpts, reminds me to oldie Dream of doll sculpts, but in a renew form. I think that sculpt like Narae are such iconic that a lot of bjds companies had like reference for create their prop dolls.

 

One from my collection that I could mention is that other people have asked more than once if Sven (doll in life Rydel) is a Little Rebel sculpt. I think it's mostly because I tend to photograph him from head-on and I exaggerate his mouth with the dark lipstick. There is some vague similarity, though it's mostly that Little Rebel dolls are well known now, where as (until this year!) you pretty much never saw a Doll in Life Rydel anywhere. Anyway, I love this kind of thing, visual similarities and differences. It's fun to see what connections people make.
My Rydel and LR Seven are different for sure but also similar enough I eventually made them siblings, hehe.

 

Feeple65 Ingrid and Dollshe Saint look like siblings to me. They have very similar mouth and nose sculpting when you see them side-by-side.

 

I thought the same, especially with DZ and DC being sister companies. It has to be intentional, right? Those sculpts are just way too weird for it to be coincidence.

 

I tend to like a lot of similar features in my dolls, so I'm definitely guilty of buying several that could be siblings. I think Elfdoll Ruru, Oasisdoll Natalie, and Monochrome Ray all resemble each other.

 

Same jawline, same nose... I see it

 

I was looking at Volks Maacha the other day and wondering why I thought I'd seen her face before... turns out she resembles Coralreef Doll Caroline. (Links to Instagram pics)

 

Dollzone Carter and Doll Leaves Louis have a strong similarity. They don't look like the same doll, but they do look like there is a similar inspiration for them. If I remember correctly, Louis came out around the same time Dollzone discontinued the original Carter, but that may be coincidence. Louis looks like a more relaxed and natural version of Carter, but with pointy ears.

 

DC Jodie would be a good match with Island #1

 

I think Angel of Dream Zimei looks a little like the old Luts Lishe... At least, that's why I got one I'm less sure of the resemblance with the fairyland one though. But the old school vibe is there.

 

I've always thought that Luts Mytyl could be a chibi version of Souldoll Star - their faces are very similar to me.

Luts Madeleine, Chicabi Choi and Soom Appini are also three sculpts that are very similar to me (and I've contemplated owning in the past because of it!)

Also, Daydream Doll Sally will forever be the lovechild of Bluefairy Denis and Bluefairy May to me.

This is also something I only noticed today - but Withdoll Teeny and Dollzone Ginger have a similar smile and scrunched Kermit face vibe.

Belated edit: after seeing a Volks Rose/Bianka again recently, I remembered that I once thought Bluefairy Jaden looked like they could be an excellent child or chibi version of Rose/Bianka. I went go double check, and yep, I still think they look similar.

 

Idk if it’s just because the styling is similar and it’s the same exact wig from Leeke, but these pictures of someone’s Luts KDF Lemon made me do a serious double take. In the thumbnails, I was like “hey I don’t remember taking those pictures.” This is my Volks Suiseiseki.

For all the differences I can spot, I can also see similarities, especially in the eye shape, the general face shape, and where the features are placed on the face.

I think both dolls really capture each company’s style. However these two are also making me think of those art challenges where everyone draws the same thing in their own style, and despite the differences, that’s where the similarities become more obvious. Am I making any sense?

And again, I admit I might just be seeing things because of how similarly they’re styled.
