I saw this girl was instock and on sale at DDE! Since I love fairies, I went ahead and purchased her! This will be my second DC kid. I find the body shape hard to sew for, but it looks great in fantasy style clothes. For her, I want to show off the extreme proportions of the sculpt. So she’ll be a bit on the scantly clad side lol Here is my sketch idea for her style: Her outfit will be made from faux flower petals and leaves. With some beaded and lace accents. Color wise I’m pink and purple. I’m going to have to go through my stash of faux flowers to see which petals will be in the right scale. I also have an idea for the makeup. It’s heavily inspired by the Bratz Fashion Pixies line. I still have the Breeana doll and her purple pixie friend from childhood I want the makeup to be extra sparkly! I’m very excited to work on this beautiful creature! She’s due to arrive today so I’ll update this thread with a photo of her blank self when I get her.
Thank you! I’m excited to begin work! I bet the majority of the project will be done in 2024 Thank you I promise I’m working on all of them lol I just bounce between projects to keep myself from being burned out. Now that my Christmas knitting crunch time is finished, I’ll have more time for dolly projects again! Thank you!
I got the supplies together but forgot to post the picture So here it is now! I got these large flowers for the skirt since Ula has a big booty haha Petal fairy supplies
I worked on the skirt last night. Starting the New Year off to a good dolly start! DC Ula skirt DC Ula skirtI realized too late that I hadn’t remembered to keep the back closure in mind lol The petals are hot glued to each other in a circle. So she’s essentially “sewn in” to her skirt. Oops, but also that’s fine cuz she was only going to have this signature look amyways. I added light blue beads to look like dew drops And a ribbon waistband to clean up the top “seam”. But also be a faux closure lol
Yesterday I worked on the wings I painted on a base layer of pinky-purple. I used a sponge to avoid streaks and to blend the gradient. It took 3 layers to make sure it was opaque. This was the first time I had tried this technique with the intention to blend colors and I’m really pleased with the outcome! DC Ula wingsNext I want to add a metallic layer so the wings shine. Then also spots of glitter, cuz who can resist pixie dust?
I did the metallic layer! And added blue to the edges of her wings. Then dusted on pearl ex shimmer in pink, purple, and blue. I really like her wings! I’m excited DC Ula wingsI also painted her shoes in metallic pink. I still have to clean up the edges and paint the leaf details green. DC Ula shoes
Shoes are finished! Just waiting for the gloss varnish to dry I think after the sealers are dry, I’ll work on making her top. DC Ula shoes 2
The petal top was pretty quick to make compared to the skirt and painting! It’s already done This time I intentionally glued her top closed. Might as well lol DC Ula topLike the skirt, I added the dew drop beads. I like how her style is coming together! I still have a few accessories to make for her. And I’ll paint her nails as well.
More progress on Ula! I painted her nails a light shade of blue to pair nicely with the lace and bead bracelets. I also sewed matching anklets but with the dew drop bead in the center. DC Ula bracelets DC Ula anklets
Fiorella the Fairy has a face! It was a frustrating project, to be honest. My first attempt had to be wiped cuz I flat out did not like it. But I decided to try again and just wing a bit. I also widened her eyes. I wanted to use the eyes she came with, but they were too big. So eye modding was the logical conclusion lol Here’s a progress pic after a few layers in: DC Ula faceup 1And here she is all finished with added layers of glitter, gloss, and butterfly “tattoo”. DC Ula faceup 2 DC Ula faceup 3I happy with how she looks! I think she fits in with the Bratz pixies! She’s got a sass to her lol But still delicate and pretty
She’s finished! DC Ula finished 1 DC Ula finished 2 DC Ula finished 3 All she needs is a photoshoot!
Thank you! She was a fun project to undertake! I got to practice new techniques! I love the graceful sculpt that DC does so well!
