Doll Chateau Tiny Discussion Part 2

Sep 17, 2014

    1. Welp. I'll be joining the waiting room soon xD I'm about 100 away from getting a DC Zora and part of me is like... maybe a different head? Since I love her body more than her head sculpt.

I saw the b-body-05 can be ordered separately. Are there different companies I could hybrid her with? (I'm not keen on the other heads that are available separately xD)

Or should I stick with Zora?

    2. Keep in mind that Zora is being discontinued so if you want that head, get it now. you can always sell it later if you find a head you like better. The neck on that body is very skinny so you'd need a small head.

    3. Right. I honestly liked her for her body xD had no idea I could get it separately!

    4. Personally ,Id just buy the doll and sell the head . That way its a little bit cheaper in the long run . when you compare full dolls to parts its more costly to do the parts separately. Plus you could use the money on the new head .

    5. I'm curious too. I hear Blythe stuff fits ok in the chest but dresses, etc will all be too short. I also remember hearing maybe she can wear Barbie clothing. Guess we'll both know when our girls get here :P If she's got a 13cm head she probably wears a 5 inch wig. If I had to hazard a guess about eyes, I'd say 8 or 10mm depending on the style of eye. I can't imagine she takes anything larger than a 10mm. MIGHT even be able to get away with a 6mm, I'll have to see. Shoes are probably gonna be a nightmare. Based on measurements she could possibly fit in Blythe shoes. It's gonna be fun to find out at least :P

    6. Still haven't found my Jodie, but looking for him everywhere did turn up a Carol that I just couldn't resist. She was just waiting for me to click that "Buy Now" button. So I did. Bad, bad me...

I also have my eye on a few heads - even though I am broke, and really hate having "floaters".

Anyway, Carol pictures will follow when I'm home. I picked her up on my way to work, and she's sitting on my computer wondering what's going on. And I'm using my work computer to look for new eyes for her.

Does anyone know what size eyes she takes??? I'm guessing 12, but I could be wrong.

    7. Congrats on getting Carol! I adore her, she was one of the first dolls I ever got.

I think I used 10 for mine... but 12s might fit fine, especially if they have a smaller iris.

    8. Thanks! I missed her when she was first out, so I'm really happy to find her.

I took her home on my lunch break (my volunteer job is a few streets away) and couldn't resist taking a picture.

Here she is, impersonating a partridge, by sitting in my pear tree.

    9. Congratulations! I have always been intrigued by Carol. She is just so interesting!

    10. I love this mold ! Your photo is really cute, Fairy Miliner ^^

    11. Hey! I just got back into the hobby after a several year hiatus. I noticed that several people have DC Carols. I don't suppose anybody knows what size shorts would fit her? Or clothes for that matter? I got her fullset and I loved it at the time, but my tastes have changed a bit and I want to get her a new outfit.

The only other doll I have is an sd doll and my carols hips are big, but not THAT big.

    12. Oh, I loved her full set, but I'm just happy that I found her at all. I'm terrified of doing her face-up, though.

Her hips need YoSD-size shorts, but her waist is tiny. I tried some bloomers on her that I borrowed from one of my 5SD tinies, and they fit really well around her upper legs and hips - but they were way too big at the waist. Problem is, if I make the waist elastic shorter, it won't fit over her hips.
So I think she'll need shorts or panties in YOSD size, but with a drawstring. Or very stretchy elastic.

Very wide Barbie skirts work on her - she's got a Barbie-size waist. Dresses won't work, though, because her upper body is a lot smaller and shorter than Barbie's.

She's going to be as much of a challenge to my pattern-making skills as my Hillarys, I think!

    13. Just want to share a picture of my Mini Bella. I saw a head on MP and just had to get her! :D

    14. She is darling, CrazyAnna. Can I ask how tall she is with the extra ankle parts removed? I am wondering whether one of the B bodies would work for a character I have in mind, but 30cm+ would be too tall...

    15. Mini Bella is so beautiful. I mean regular Bella is gorgeous too. i'm not sure which i'd prefer tbh... hmmm... i'd have to figure out what role she'd play in my collection first hahah.

Carol is such a great sculpt. I love mine.

    16. @fjm123
Thank you! She is about 29 cm with the extra ankle joint removed.

    17. Still too tall, I fear... I wonder if a DC head would hybridise with a 5StarDolls Miss S body...

    18. @CrazyAnna - she's adorable! Such a sweet face, and I love her outfit.
@Guen Winters - I've never seen that body before, that's really cool! She's a mini Bella, too, right?

    19. Has anyone tried taking apart one of the ants? I want to body blush mine but I'm worried about how difficult it will be to restring her since she's so small and her body is abnormal. Just getting her head back on after I put her eyes in was a doozy.

    20. I did a comparison of DollChateau B-07 body, MH, Barbie and Blythe. Maybe it will be usefull. It's difficult to choose fitting clothes for this body.

I also took photos in the same dress.

    21. DC has new limited zodiac dolls, and Laraine is calling my name, ugh....not good.

      • x 2
    22. Aren't they beautiful? They really remind me of those older DZ sculpts.

    23. @krill Yes! I love Laraine's little teeth.

      • x 1
    24. I'm smitten with Laraine, too - and yes, those teensy teeth! I really didn't want to buy any more dolls right now, but she's wonderful...and I'm a Pisces...so I've managed to convince myself that it's somehow a moral imperative. :sweat

      • x 1
    25. Lol I'm also a Pisces, and pretty much trying to rationalize it for the same reason.

    26. Well there you go - it's flawless reasoning! Not that I would ever dream of enabling, but in this one particular instance, she's an absolutely essential purchase!

    27. Hello!
I'm a new member and i'm currently in the never ending void of research to find my first doll. :D
Obviously I have a few in mind, but to help me decide, I was hoping you could tell me if the Doll Chateau Mini bella that is only 31cm tall would fit into Monster High clothes?

      Thank you!

Ps. I will probably be posting many more questions! <3

Thank you so much! This answered my question.

    28. So I think this is where its suppose to go. Anyone else looking at Julianne the new halloween limited doll? I am so amazed they managed to make such an expressive face thats without an actual mouth so the possibilities are huge! I would love to know what others think of her and the direction DC seem to be going with their dolls. This one is def threw me off completely with them lol! I'm Highly considering getting her in grey skin lol

    29. I'm strongly considering her. She would be my first DC doll. I don't know anything about this company but they've been around long enough I assume there will be no issues ordering her? How long is their turnaround normally?

    30. I have a few of the Doll chateau/Doll zone dolls (sister companies) and their quality is really nice. Just know White skin will yellow so easily lol. all my dolls that been white skinned and hidden away from the light are yellow now. I have no experience with their colored resin like grey but I suspect it might hold up better then white in terms of aging but its only just a guess.

I been told their turn around for a nude doll is 5 months or so. a fullset is even longer. I plan on getting mine in nude and in grey skin once i collected the funds for the little one. I'm kind of tired of white skin in general so it will be a pleasant change

      • x 1
    31. I agree with @Pooki the way they did her head is very open to customization. I'm not a fan of the semi-skeletal bodies, and her eye size wouldn't work with my group. I'm considering tiny Bella, though.

    32. Thank you for your opinion on the whiteskin. I think I will be going with the gray, it's pretty unusual a color still to see. A bit of a long wait, so that is upsetting, but not enough to keep me from ordering her. I am thinking fullset, definitely bummed about so long of a wait though.

DC has always had really interesting designs, and Julianne - she's so full of character. I had been keeping an eye on DC's items as they were so artistically unique, but none had stood out to me quite yet, until Julianne.

    33. Not a problem! Once upon a time they had even longer waits so 5 months or so is a blessing. Totally worth it I will say. I really do love the direction they are heading in finally. I think we will be seeing more even better dolls in the near future so brace that wallet or it might grow legs lol.

Thats another thing about Julianne. She stands out so much compared to all their dolls that they had. Its so unusual even for them to have such an expressive doll. Typically the sculpts have sorrow faces is what I like to call them. Hers is not a sorrow face. I am looking at another of their dolls too and trying to debate if its possible to do a combine order for both x.x It'd save some time and effort but it might not be possible right now.

      • x 1
    34. Yes, they have had very somber looking sculpts before her. I wonder if they are testing out the market somewhat with her sculpt. Very exciting to see what they are going to come up with in the future!

    35. I ordered a fullset Julianne-A in grey resin on a 5-month layaway (funds are tight and the USD-CAD exchange rate sucks so I had to go for a long layaway on this one). It has been a while since I've fallen so instantly in love with a doll! She is going to be a member of my spaceship crew who are all fantasy dolls in 1/6 or smaller. I am really hoping she'll look good next to my Enaibi Briseis! I know there will be a bit of a height difference but I'm hoping the proportions will be OK at least, them both being slim tinies.

I am kind of sad you can't order an extra head for Julianne since I'd love to have at least one more head with an additional expression for her! Alas...

I'll admit I am super nervous ordering a fullset doll from Doll Chateau since I have ordered new dolls from Dollzone (sister company of Doll Chateau) 3 times and all three times there has been something horribly wrong with my order. My last Dollzone order was for a discontinued doll and they shipped me a doll in the completely wrong resin colour and refused to correct the mistake by sending me a doll in the resin colour I actually ordered (luckily the dealer let me return the doll). I am just really, REALLY hoping I will get my Julianne-A with the right faceup in the right resin colour with nothing missing or damaged...

    36. I've been waffling about on Julianne; she's not something I specifically have any plans for, but at the same time I can't quite get her out of my head... I'm considering asking BJDivas about a layaway for her before the end of her ordering period, just so I can slip them a little cash every month and get her paid off close to the time she'd be done anyway. I just dropped a larger order with them recently and wasn't budgeting for more dolls in the near future... (And I just dropped a lot of cash at a new sci-fi con I unexpectedly ended up at last weekend, whoopsie.)

Regardless of what I end up doing for myself, though, I'm super glad that people are ordering her, because then even if I don't get one I get to vicariously enjoy yours. :D

    37. Agreed! I been debating it so hard. i have another layaway with them too but i don't know if i really want to miss out on her since she looks so fun. I'm sure they understand the limited feature of some dolls so x.x maybe next pay check i'll slip in the layaway so i can at least have her lol. My gathering of money for her didn't turn out as planned XD

I'm excited to see everyone's though! Theres way too much possibility for the creative juices!

    38. Whelp, I've gone and sent an inquiry email to see how long I can go on her... I'm still thinking about the possibility after all this time. That's usually a sign to consider it more strongly, right?

    39. Oh
BJDivas right? let me know please lol I was going to email them as well here soon to inquire as well but you are doing it so saves a bit of time right?

    40. Hello everyone! I was curious - one of my grail sculpts is a Doll Chateau Liz (the discontinued kitty heels baby) and I was wondering if anyone had any nice owner pictures of her they'd be up for sharing? Looking at the way people style my favorite sculpts makes me really happy and excited! I've only seen Liz out in the wild once and haven't otherwise seen anyone doll her up (pardon the pun) other than her old product pictures! She didn't seem like a super popular sculpt so I don't anticipate a lot, but I thought I'd ask~

    41. Yep! I asked about targeting $20-30/month, and they said they can do that through the normal layaway process. I might be ordering a spooky girl when I get paid...

    42. I'm still a little on the fence on whether I really want Julianne or not... so I did just submit a layaway order. :) Hopefully it goes through! I'll see how she inspires me when she gets here and decide what to do then, but with the clock running out I figured I should move on her.

    43. I ordered both Liz and Mandy and now just waiting for the shipping notice. I'm hoping they'll be here in two weeks. :eusa_pray

    44. Oh my god that's WONDERFUL! Are you going to do an unboxing vid? Or take pictures of them? Did you get the fullsets? Did you order them before DC discontinued them? I'm SO HYPE for you!!! <3 Sorry for all of my questions but I'm just SO excited for you and I hope you have a wonderful time with them! <3 <3

    45. Ta. :)

I ordered them during the discontinuation event through BJDivas. Tbh, couldn't justify getting the fullsets as I wanted some other dolls/heads, so just the blank dolls.

I can see if I can take pics or something. I'm just very bad at remembering. :doh

    46. Thank you so much - if you remember, no pressure okay!!!
      But yeah, CONGRATS!

    49. She’s absolutely lovely! So delicate looking and I love her face-up and wig. They really enhance her beauty.:)

    50. Hopefully I'm in the right thread. (wasn't sure if I should be in the tiny or kid thread...) :sweat

Has anyone here restrung a Xaviera? I'm thinking I might have to bathe mine due to her "new resin smell" being so intense and me being hyper sensitive to smells.

She's been airing out for soon 24 hours outside (on my glassed balcony so in a safe place, I'd never leave her just on a bench or something). I plan to leave her there for possibly another 24 hours if cloudy and gloomy weather persists. I'd still like a backup solution which would be bathing and I'd need to take her apart for that.

Still, I've never restrung a doll and having taken a peek inside her she looks rather intimidating.

    51. Seeing as how it’s almost Christmas time, I wanted to share my beloved “forgotten toys” (Dollzone Lunas in normal pink and green skin) with a few of their attic friends.

    52. They're so cute~ I've been eyeing one one on the marketplace, but it would be nice to see them compared to other dolls. :whee:

    53. Is anyone else a little unsure of their feelings on him? I really loved Charon and Pluto, but for some reason he just isn't clicking with me. I really like the new ears and his face sculpt so maybe it's just the way they did his makeup? Anyone else have opinions on him?

    54. I feel much the same, I think he's really cute but the makeup and the way his body is painted is definitely what's putting me off him. Not a fan of the mechanical take on him. Honestly would be tempted to get him blank, I'm sure I'd be completely in love if he was done to my taste.

    55. I'm actually not too much of a fan of most of the heads for their (kid/baby)centaurian creatures. Instead, I opt to swap out the head. I thought "just sell the head," but the thought of divorcing the head from the rest of the body makes me a bit sad. Though Cephalopod himself isn't bad to me. I do think his face is a bit too sloped and smooth for my tastes, but that's just that -- my taste. I'm also not much of an elf ears person. Their full set tries to go with the cyberpunk aesthetic, and I quite like that. I do wish they altered the male's body more than they did. It really doesn't make him feel special in comparison to the female.

    56. If I was still collecting resin dolls, I would probably be planning on how to purchase/afford him during such a limited ordering period. If I wasn't buried neck deep in pre-orders (for OT figures/dolls), I would seriously consider him right now, but I'm sadly not interested in getting more resin dolls, particularly in his size. If he was smaller, maybe, I would be in deep trouble right now. I love his face, wig and overall concept. I think they kind of did a lazy job with the torso looking like a mod of the female one -- I like the curviness around the hip/waist area, but the protruding chest area does make me think it's just a quick-mod of the female. I don't mind the rest of the body being exactly the same, I like the sculpting on the scorpion piece, and there's really not that much difference (if any at all) between male and female scorpion bodies. Humanoid-males do have more of a straight/flat chest unless they are inhaling-in-air (or some or posture issues), so that does bother me a bit. I would definitely add him to my small collection if it were another time (earlier in my BJD collecting years), or if I didn't have too much already going on. He is very tempting. (:

    57. I agree that the chest area looks like a bit of a fast mod. I think it's because the nipples are so low down and to the sides. Normally they're only going to be that low if there's some breast tissue or large muscle tissue, and there's neither. I mean guys do have breast tissue and can have more than might usually be expected. To be honest, I would be very interested in a doll with gynecomastia or a doll that is considered male but otherwise has breast tissue, that'd be cool. But Cephalopod definitely doesn't feel like they made any deliberate choices to make a non-standard chest haha, just seems like it's a quick modification of the existing female chest. Not that it's the end of the world, it'd be a fairly easy "fix" if you wanted to rearrange the nipples and muscles on the doll a bit. It wouldn't be something that put me off. I kinda like it as it is tbh, looks like very very small breasts.

For me I am put off by the make-up too! I actually like cyberpunk stuff, but I don't think they've really nailed it. It looks like too much of a mush of vaguely cyberpunk-like things without enough thought into what would work. I wouldn't mind seeing them try again in future though.

If they had brought him out back when Pluto and Charon came out, I would have bought him over those two. However, since I purchased a Pluto, I don't really have the space - literally or figuratively - for another scorpion. A shame because I like his pincers much better!

    58. I really love him. His face sculpt is adorable and I prefer it massively to Pluto and charon's faces.

As for his chest, I actually think it looks fine. Guys come in all sorts of shapes and i'm cool with that.

    59. I also super love him, I have him on layaway and totally broke all my plans and "nothing but bodies" pledge for him, I'm very excited
I'm a bit wary of how baby faced he does look blank, but he doesn't seem as much so painted so I'm not super worried, the right faceup will help. I want to also go in a cyberpunk direction like the fullset but...Glowy and probably tacky clashing bright colors
