Yay new thread!

Ladydeath, are you thinking of putting an Agatha or Alma head on the Irma body?

 

I love the new centaurs hands, I wish they were available separately...

 

no, I'm just going to get them on the regular 07 body. I just keep going back and forth between the two. I think I may go with alma though. Someday I'll get a centaur. My friend did just order the Delia head on the 07 body though, can't wait to see how she looks.

I was also thinking of buying Alma, when I tried to decide if she or Agatha would be better for me. Took Agatha finally, as even if Alma is beautiful, something in her teeth put me off.

Hey you guys! ^_^
I got my first DC Kid in the mail earlier this week.
She is a Queena that I decided to name Andromeda (An for short).
Here is a picture of her with the face-up I gave her yesterday.
The eyes came with the sculpt, but I really like them so I think I will keep them as part of her look.

 

DotWorkDoll, ​Your Queena is so lovely! I really like the wig, too.

 

An is a cutie! I love her faceup. I can't wait for the weather to turn so my Queena Nor can get her face too.

 

Where can I find a wiring tutorial around here, guys? How thick does the wire needs to be? ;_; Won't it be hard to pose the doll if the wire doesn't move along with it or gets bended in a weird way?​

I am waiting on a Colin head, I hope to use it on my AOD body, I may have to mod the neck a bit. The DC kid sculpts are so unique and most are cute but I'm getting Colin because I love his attitude, especially Vampireangel13's Alex. I hope to give him a faceup that will show both his insecurities and universal indifference.

Wiring is pretty easy @lunaticlover, get some wire that will fit into the channel along with the elastic. It must be flexible enough to move but not so flexible that is doesn't do anything. I use 12gauge single wire (not multi-strand) copper in my big dolls, 14-16gauge single wire would probably work in the mini's. Cut it almost as long as the entire limb you're trying to stabilize. With the limb straight, pull the hand or foot so the s-hook is out of the way to allow the wire to be pushed into the channel, there is no need to unstring it. Then you just pose the limb. There will be resistance when you move it around but that is the purpose. If you are worried about the wire scratching the inside of the channel cover the ends with tape or hot glue or sand it smooth.
As far as the wire getting bent the wrong way, it isn't hard enough to resist your movement into the right position, and the channel is tight enough to keep it from kinking.

hehe yes I am uber excited to receive her. I'm a little nervous about how tall she is, since I only collect minis and tinies, and she's supposed to be about 50cm.
(With the dz moon head I'm using, maybe even taller because of her big horns)

Such lovely dollies everyone! I finally after many weeks of deliberating bought an instock alma from dde. She hasn't shipped yet, but I'm excited. She's my first of the new type bodies, have no clue how I'm going to clothe her.

 

My Alma finally came in the mail!~ I ordered her back in August and it has been so worth the wait!

ahah try to paint a paper before and then the doll so you have an idea of makeup, i'm a makeup artist (peaple, not doll) and usually i made a "facechart" before so the makeup come easy because you can see it

im going to have to remove her ankle joints though they are driving me crazy, and she needs a good hot glue, then hopefully she will pose better.

 

Ah she is so cute!!! The 07 body is definitely finicky. I need to suede my girl as well >.< ...lazyness...

 

Ok so I took out one of the extra ankle joints, but when I put the foot and ball back on without it, the hook wouldn't sit up into the lower leg joint as it was too wide for the inside of the joint and her foot wouldn't sit right. The extra ankle joint has a wider hole inside it so the hook fits fine.
How has anyone else taken the extra joint out and got it to fit or work?

 

OMG OMG OMG, she's heeeeeeeere! My Agatha came in today and I didn't pick up the package until right now because I thought it was boring old bras but it was her! I wasn't expecting this for another month! Luckily I have something for her to wear, although the wig I got was too small. :/

actually, I did the same with my winged Isabel. I noticed that the s hook wouldn't go on. But I did t notice it was stuck. I imagine you are right though. 2 ideas - reshape the existing s hook or buy new, smaller ones maybe. I might try reshaping in the next few days. The extra joint is driving me up the wall.

 

I find the extra ankle joint is difficult at times as well. I have trouble getting her to stand some times and other I stand her with no issues... So I don't know why that is but it can be a bit frustrating. I love doll chateau artistry over all though.

Yesterday Heather watched the movie Signs and afterwards decided that a tin foil hat needed to be in her collection of alien related collection of artifacts and interesting things.

I've heard of other people removing that joint, and they had to pinch the s-hook a bit more closed to fit into the hole. :/

I got my Colin head today. I am so thrilled. He will be living on a modified AOD body. He is Oliver Lewis as I originally meant him to be. Have to see if he is going to keep the eyes he came with or use ones I have for him.
Oliver the streetwise half-demon. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and do what the weathermen tell me and I'll have good MSC spraying weather tomorrow.

 

In my search for removing the extra ankle joint I came across an old post on Mintoncards facebook page. Someone was asking if they could be ordered without the extra joints and MOC replied stating that DC didn't sell them like that because the extra joints couldn't be taken out as the lower leg joints were not meant to be strung directly to the foot and cracks could happen. Now I'm confused and worried about trying to make the leg work without the extra joint. Has anyone successfully done it?

i don't understand why it would crack either. All I know is that the extra ankle joints are driving me nuts trying to get her to stand.

 

I've taken out the extra joints for my Isabel. I had to squish the s hooks a little bit with some pliers so they would go into the legs and arms.
No problems so far ... and she stands so much better now I couldn't get her to stand before.

I second that. I absolutely adore Isabel's joints, but if they aren't functional, they aren't staying. I took out her extra ankles and squished the hook, buuuuttt somehow managed to give her a hairline crack in her neck I've unstrung her to fix it with epoxy, and then will tighten her string a bit. I hope she will stand better then! (Also, my Isabel's string was 56cm unstretched O.o, this seems weirdly long...)

 

oh no! Did you take out her extra neck joint too? I noticed the hooks they use are pretty big, like when I was taking off her head today to give her a faceup the hook was too big to get through the hole in her head. I had to squish that one to get it on and off.

 

I love the DC centaur body sculpt (k-body-14) and am thinking of getting one, but I'd want to get either the Queena or Matthew head with it. I'm not sure if it would fit though?

On the DC site it says that the centaur body has a neck size of 4.6cm while the Matthew body has a neck size of 5.5cm and the Queena body has a neck size of 6.5cm.

So I was wondering if either the Matthew or Queena head would "fit" I guess on the centaur body? I'm very new to BJDs and thus I don't know if this would work or not~

 

Ladydeath - actually, my Isabel doesn't have an extra neck joint, but wow for having to squish it O.o it looks like dc isn't checking the hook sizes too well - both of her wing hooks had to be squished just to get them on O.o

helenaJ - hmmm.... Well. I have noticed, specifically with the Isabel and the bella heads, is that the newer head is smaller - it's actually harder to get eyes in if its on the body. I don't know if that will impact. As I havent seen the newer centaur, body, maybe just match the measurements as. Best as you can, but be prepared to mod I think with modding, any head can fit, but it could look bobble headed depending on proportions, would it be worth asking dc directly?

 

When I removed my isabel's extra joints, the S hooks in the ankles were fine for me, but I did a have a problem with the S hooks in the extra wrist joints. I thought I was gonna have to replace the S hooks with smaller ones but ended up being able to squish them down to fit through. Weirdly, she didn't need restringing after all the joints were out and poses great. I cant wait for her head to get back from the face up artist!

Meanwhile I wondered why I hadnt any updates from this thread in a while, then discovered the brand new edition! Loved going through and looking at all your lovely pics
