Doll Chateau Kid Dolls Discussion: Part 6

Mar 17, 2014

    1. Ridley is so beautiful I can feel The DC bug biting again! This is my Agatha, named Agatha!! She's just got the default face up but I love her x

    2. I had similar problems with my K07 (female version of your body), and when I asked tips, few people recommended me to wire my doll. I didn't do it, as hot glue sueding make her work enough for me, but I have had good results wiring other dolls.

    3. I've heard these complaints as well from other DC owners. (as I don't have mine yet)
The wiring should help! I've also heard pipe cleaners can be useful inside the limbs too, but you may get little fuzzy elbows with some poses. XD

    4. Pipecleaners? Brilliant! That solves a lot of the concerns with scratching and moving out of place. How high up/deep do the pipe cleaners need to go?

Semi-related: How tightly strung are DCs when they arrive? Do they typically need to be restrung or tightened? And what size elastic works best?

    5. I have them in a different doll, but I normally make them long enough to span the length of both parts I'm trying to wire. (like from the shoulder to the wrist)
Also, you should probably fold in the edges so the metal wire doesn't poke anything. :)

I can't answer about the string tightness, but maybe someone else can. Since I ordered this month, I'll probably have to wait a while. XD

    6. In my experience, they come super kicky, very tight. My first doll was an Alberta and I am still super scared of restringing a four-legged creature... -_-

    7. Hybris, I'm a bit nervous about that with the new centaurs. However, I think I will have to dive in and just try it in case I ever lose the s-hook inside her body or something. hehe
The new hooved leg pieces have me wondering if they are strung up to the knee, or all the way down to the hoof part...

    8. So the k-07 body is really kicky? I hot glue suede a lot of my dolls, but have never wired.

    9. My K-07 body is definitely kicky. I haven't restrung her though. I think wiring would help a lot. Despite the kickyness, I am still able to get her to stand.

    10. My Queena was SUPER tight. Even now after the elastic has relaxed a bit, she's still so tight I couldn't get her restrung with the extra neck piece. Without it, she stands and is pretty poseable. Not as kicky, anyway. Her arms still need some stretching. :P

    11. Ohhh, you ordered the new centaur body? I want to see lots of pics when you get it! ^^

    12. Where can I find a wiring tutorial around here, guys? How thick does the wire needs to be? ;_; Won't it be hard to pose the doll if the wire doesn't move along with it or gets bended in a weird way?

    13. The k-01 and k-05 body are the same except for the extra joints.

My Queena poses very well. She can even stand without assistance for photos which is nice.

    14. That makes a lot of sense, lol. I'm surprised mine can stand with her extra joints. I've read that most people can't get the extra-jointed bodies to stand at all. Love your little Wendy! I have Dale on the sea horse body. I need to paint her and Lenore (my Queena).

    15. Thank you! I love DC and DZ. Sounds like you have great taste in dolls.

    16. Do any of the Doll Chateau experts here know if a Bella head in normal pink would work on a white skin Bella body, or would the difference be too noticeable?

    17. AmoraSeth Thank you very much :D

    18. there is a pic some pages back of all three skin tones next to each other. I personally think the difference will be very noticeable.

    19. Thank you, GlossReality. I agree. Very noticeable. No mixing of Bella head / body skin tones for me then. The difference would drive me to distraction.

    20. Heheh yessss!! I'm SO excited, as she will be my first DC doll. :3
I will surely spam pics of her~ Hopefully it will be ok here since she will have a DZ head instead of a DC one.

    21. Hahah, maybe you can post in both DZ and DC threads then ;P

    22. hybris, Probably will have to, since a few of my dolls will be hybrids with DC or DZ. XD They are both such great companies~ (seconding dotworkdoll here)
dotworkdoll, so nice to see you here! :aheartbea I always love photos of your ladies.

I'm going to suede and wire my incoming girls arms and torso for sure, but I'll have to see about her legs when she gets here. :/ Maybe I can suede the leg holes, and wire them through the knee?

Here is my plan of action I guess. XD Purple lines are wire (or maybe pipe cleaners?) and the blue lines are sueding.

Is it silly that I'm also pumped about her hands alone? They have such a lovely angled and edgy look to them; so different from the hands of all my other dolls.
Hoping her tail is magnetic too, so I would have the chance to make her an extra tail made of teeswater locks to match her wig. If they are not magnetic, maybe I can rig one on top somehow.

    23. That centaur body is awesome. I really love the new doll Irma, but am going to be ordering a youth Christina in the event, in the meantime, I'm torn between agatha or alma. I think I'm siding more with alma though.
