Doll Chateau Kid Dolls Discussion: Part 6

Mar 17, 2014

    1. Still don't know how I feel about that neck joint. Does it look normal if you attempt to remove it? I love her soft colors dotworkdoll

    2. [MENTION=43626]QuietYurei[/MENTION], the neck joint is removable, and the body looks fine if it's removed. You have to then restring her/him to get the tension back to proper. And if you are sure you'll not want the neck joint, you can always order the body (k-11, if I remember correctly) that has no neck joint to begin with. ^^

    3. dotworkdoll your Queena is so pretty.

here is a group shot on my DC gang. some have hair and face ups now.
[IMG]Doll Chateau gang by missdollymix, on Flickr

i would love to other group pics.

    4. Has anybody further pictures of Barbara's face? I am trying to work out if I'd rather her without a face up or at least no default eyeshadow and no default lipstick.

    5. The jeans are by ForeverVirginia on etsy and are made for DC, but he wears a lot of TTYA even their trousers.

December first by samsonsue62, on Flickr

He has them rolled up here, mainly because I dont like them too wide at the ankles. I find them a pretty good fit for his body type.

    6. He's soo cute, I love his waif like look. Soo different to mnf's. I'll have to have a look at ttya' stuff, I've only got one of her pieces of clothing.

    7. Noooo, don't tempt me. I need way less DC temptation right now.

    8. My Hugh came today that I adopted off the marketplace and wow I love him. I love his frail, skinny look, I love the older body. I was going to order in the event a youth doll, but now I'm not sure if I should get another kid.

I can't get photos to show up don't know what I'm doing wrong.

    9. As my own Queena has finally arrived, I feel I can legit talk on this thread now

This is Aine, my pixie. I still need to give her a faceup, mani-pedi, and finish her elf ears that I've started tonight :)

[IMG]Sugar pink wig by Prysmatical, on Flickr

I'm super excited to do her ears, I don't know why. I've got the basic apoxie-sculpt shapes on, now I have to wait for them to cure, and I can start sanding them to look all beautiful.

She's got an unfortunate case of t-rex arms atm, anybody have any thoughts on how I can add a little more friction in her joints? They're too slick to hold poses right now. I'm not sure there's enough room in there for sueding? She's on the K-11 body.

Dotworkdoll: Your Queena's faceup is gorgeous! Love her look.

LadyDeath: Click on the little curved arrow to the right on your flickr page, then make sure you click on the BBCode option. Then just copy and paste the link that they give you. Your new Hugh is cute :>

    10. She's lovely Prysm, does she have the newer body? What do you think of it?
pictures used to work on here for me, but I just switched from photo bucket to Flickr so that may be why it's not working.

    11. She is beautiful! I am glad you are enjoying your Queena. Mine should be here on Tuesday! Eee!

    12. Your queena is so pretty! Defo show us the elf ears when you are done! As for the t Rex ness... I know what you mean, as my elizabeth has it. However, my isabel doesn't, so maybe it's a stringing thing? I've found that thin suede does fit nicely in the joints of the k11, and helps some (helps different amounts in different joints lol)

    13. LadyDeath: Thank you! Yes, she has the K-11 body, which is like the K-07 body, but without the extra neck joint, and like Isabel's body, without the wings. It's super skinny, so it will be tricky to find clothes for, and sadly she doesn't stand very well, but it's really pretty. She kneels really well, and the jointed hands are a ton of fun to play with and pose. Her joints are a little slippery, but she still has a lot of potential to be a pretty good poser. The extra joints on her arms and legs are a bit strange, but somehow they just work. I felt it would be the perfect body for a magical being like a pixie or fairy or nymph. :)

condensedstarstuff: Thanks c: I look forward to seeing yours too!

GlossReality: I will! It's hard to resist the urge to pick her up and play with her right now, but I don't want to mess up her ears before they're fully cured. I'm a little worried about the apoxie sculpt, as it's pretty old. The part A is near rock hard, while the part B is sloppy and oily and... ick. I put extra part B in, and it felt okay as I was mixing it. Fingers crossed! I should really buy some new stuff, but it's hard to get in Canada.
Hmm... what kind of sueding material do you recommend? I've never actually sueded a doll before with anything other than some hot glue. I think the silicone sheet material I have would be too thick (I've never actually used it :sweat) I was wondering if doing a tiny bit of light sanding with some coarse sand paper would work to add some friction... but I'd worry about taking away too much resin.

    14. That's interesting that your body is a rubbish stander, as mine is too.

As for sueding, I have never used hot glue, so I don't know how well it works. I use Dr someone (forgot his name XD) moleskin plus. It not moleskin, but Cotton flannel. I do not think it is the best sueding, but it does help somewhat - I found it dramatically increased Isabel's wing posability, as they were fairly tight, but there was no friction, however it didn't help with her legs, as the stringing there is super loose :( I hadn't actually thought about silocan kips though - I have some around, so I will try them! I've been thinking that modding is my only hope, and I don't want to mod her lol. But she's too pretty to not be able to stand. If you do sand her, please let me know if it works!

    15. Thanks everyone for the lovely comments on my Ridley :) she's still very much a work in progress, but we're getting there!

As for the posing, I don't know if anyone has tried wiring? It's super easy as it doesn't even require restringing and helps a lot with holding the joints in position :)

    16. Thanks for the info Prysm. I really don't mind a bad poser if I like the doll. I've had everything from RS to Mnf's so all different kinds of posing issues. I do know I love this Hugh, the more I look at the bodies the more I seem to prefer the look of the older body. I'm worried they will discontinue it like they have with the youth girl older body. I do love the extra joints in the new one, but I think I like the slender look of the older one. But I'm relatively new to DC to that may change over time! I seem to end up liking everything in the end as I'm addicted to dolls!
im just wondering what to get in this event. I was wanting another old style girl like Bella, or maybe try Matthew on the new body. It's soo hard to decide.

    17. Well, there's good news, and bad news.
The good news is that the ears cured up nice and hard. So the apoxie sculpt, while a pain to start mixing, is still good. \o/
The bad news is that while sanding her ears and getting them all smooth and even and such... I dropped her head on the cement floor :sigh I swear, her head jumped out of my hand... One of her new long ears broke off at the part where it met the new ear (Original ear is still fine under there). Thankfully, the rest of her head survived completely unscathed, and the break was clean, so I was able reattach it. But that means another day or two of adding on apoxie before I can start sanding it off again. =__= Sucks, but I'm glad it wasn't worse.

GlossReality: I think you mean Dr. Scholls? Hmm, might be worth a look. I would have maybe tested the sanding on the inside of one of her upper arms around now(the joint peanut keeps popping outta there), buuuut I don't want to touch her until her ears cure again. Maybe tomorrow? I want to do something about those t-rex arms, haha.

Wiring might be good for her ankles, though I'm always paranoid about putting extra stress on joints when I do that : /

LadyDeath: No problem! I'm a bit of a stickler for good posing and I feel the doll has to look good while doing it. (Which means I will probably completely redo the knee joints on the two SwtD bodies I got, arg) We've all got our own aesthetic! Hopefully the older Kid bodies still sell well enough that they'll keep them around?

    18. I faceuped and body blushed my unnamed Hugh. Hes just awesome, I love him.

    19. Your Hugh is super cute! I love the face up and body blushing.

I'm also super excited for all the Queenas in the forum! It's going to be a while before my Lenore gets a face, so you won't see her much. Maybe I'll get her some clothing sewn up next weekend to share.

    20. ladyDeath He is awesome ! His face up and body blushing are amazing ! He looks so cool !:aheartbea:sneaky

    21. wow LadyDeath your Huge is amazing. i love his dark eyes.

    22. Hello! Here's a picture of Barbara's default face up for you :) I hope this helps. She's called Mulga and I adore her :D
      [IMG]

    23. I love the uniqueness of the Doll Chateau head and body sculpts.. My hardest thing about the bodies is the lack of clothing that their is to purchase for them.. Yet that just means that I have to practice my sewing which is not a bad thing. The basic pattern that can be found on DOA is a HUGE help in making clothing.

On side note my DC Alma should be home today from getting body/face blushing and a bit of moding.

    24. you could probably try some Barbie Patterns as well. I know the dress I have on my Elizabeth is a Barbie dress...haven't tried pants or anything as I don't have the slimmer body just the spider body..lol..though I'm contemplating getting either Barbara or Isabel...wish I could swap heads and have a Barbara head on the Isabel winged body...that would be pretty neat...just not a fan of the extra joints.

    25. this is a more up to date pic of my DC gang. now with face ups and hair. well a few of them any way.
[IMG]DC group photo by missdollymix, on Flickr

Reslie there are few people making DC clothes on etsy.

Kitty Blue loving the look of your Elizabeth

    26. Samson-Thankyou! I still haven't figured out his hair colour yet. After I took this photo I tried red and black wigs which both looked better than the white.

Weird-doll-grl Thankyou too! Yours are lovely, you have quite a family of DC dolls. I think I'm getting hooked on them and need another one! Just can't decide which one!

      Kitty-Blue I love your Elizabeth.

after looking soo much at the new and old bodies I can't decide. I'm afraid I won't be able to clothe the newer body, I already have soo many odd sized dolls though. Plus I can't sew at all!!

    27. Im not sure if I have posted this here but here is another picture of Barbara without the face up :)

[IMG]Hmm what shall my name be? by bambidarling, on Flickr

    28. Ok I'm having a really hard time deciding. I really love the older body, I keep looking at the newer body but worry I won't like it when I get it. I love all the crazy joints it has, just the only thing I'm not sure about is how thin the bust area is. I can't sew at all, worried I won't be able to find anything that fits.
Bambi Darling, she is lovely and is making me want to try the new body more. I love how graceful she is.
how did everyone feel when they saw/got the new body?

    29. The first thing I thought is how incredibly beautiful and graceful it looks! Second thing was darn, this is going to be hard to dress. I ended up commissioning someone to make her an outfit because I am 100% inept at sewing. That set aside, she is so lovely naked anyways that I don't mind her sitting around without clothes while she waits for clothing made specifically for her. Here is the shop I commissioned for anyone looking for outfits that are specific to this body :)

    30. Beatnik and Bambi Darling, your girls are fantastic :D , it is so difficult to find pictures of this sculpt.

Weird-doll-grl, I have never seen so many DC in one picture!

Kitty Blue, your Elizabeth looks lovely!

    31. Hi! Do someone try to put Hugh head or other Doll Chateau MSD head on Doll Zone boy body (Model:b45-014) ? Or on Resinsoul MSD boy body? Did they fit? If yes photos please? :D

    32. I agree! The first owner pictures I saw were Beatnik's and I flipped out when I finally found them lol

    33. I have this body at home, along with DC Charles. The Hugh and Charles head, I believe are the same size. It is funny that you asked, since I was going to try the head on this body since I would love Hugh in this body. I will take a pic tonight and post it up.

    34. Love all of the photos lately!! Joining this group soon~
I've got my first DC order started, so I hope the wait for new dolls isn't too bad.

Ordered the new K-14 body for my Dollzone moon head. SO glad they are on-topic now! hehe :aheartbea
She'll be painted in browns and minty colors :D (my quick photoshop mockup below lol)

(Hopefully I can still post about her in here, even though her head is DZ.)

    35. they are soo beautiful and graceful! I do love both bodies, and I cant sew a button on. Thanks for that etsy link. I wonder can they wear regular msd dresses or are their shoulders too narrow and then it would slip off?

    36. No Msd would be way too big, i've re-scaled all my YoSd size patterns to make them longer and theyve all fitted lovely

    37. Thanks for that info angeldoll~
I'll remember that when I'm making clothes for my girl. Still need to figure out a good pattern for dresses to fit over a centaur shape...

    38. I haven't done this with boy dolls, but girls. MSD head from DC is not fitting too well in Resin Soul body. RS neck is too thick. With a some sanding it might do better. Same goes for DollZone B45-009 girl body and DC head. But I think that fit will be similar with boys. I can post photos later if you'll want girl comparison.

    39. Ah thankyou! Im even more worried about getting clothes to fit now. Sewing confuses me lol

Natural light today so I took some more pictures of my still unnamed Hugh.

      [IMG]Looking by wednesdayaddams777, on Flickr

This whole picture thing used to work for me, now its hit or miss, the url doesn't work, but the bb code turns out small like this

    40. LadyDeath, Your Hugh looks great! I really like his style~ :D

    41. AmoraSeth Thank you, that's great! I am waiting for photos:)

she_flame Oh :( I need boy comparison. Hm...I think about DC head+normal boy body (not too skinny)

    42. thankyou! I love him.

    43. He is awesome! You may not be able to sew but you have face up talent! :D I love his necklace too!
For Flickr When you choose the BB code there should be a drop down menu above the link that allows you to choose size :)

    44. doh! Thankyou! I'm new to Flickr can't you tell? Lol

    45. [IMG]my girl made it home from Rykann!! She nodded the lips a bit and did her faceup and body blushing.. Thanks for the info about barbie clothes... I will look though my girls doll clothes. :). I commissioned custom critter designs for a turtle neck and I really like it! Will post another picture later. I love seeing everyone's dolls!!

    46. Hahaha don't worry it took me forever to figure that out >.<

    47. Shes lovely Reslie. Alma was one of the ones I was looking at.

    48. Reslie, she looks great!

Good to know about the barbie clothes. I think I have some in that size I can try when my girl gets home.

    49. Wow! Barbara is adorable! i never seen her with a custom faceup, i'd like see her face with a "normal" makeup..

    50. Sorry for all the questions, but where would you get a pair of leggings or tight trousers to fit the k-07 body? Or has anyone found any other companies trousers that fit?
i seem to be great at collecting odd sized dolls *eyes my doll shelves*
just wondering if the look im going for is even possible before I even get the k-07.

    51. My tights that fit my minifee that have stretch to them fit the body :) They need to be stretchy though to fit and they are slightly short and small. It's not horribly noticeable though. I'm not sure about other sizes. My SD (feeple60) clothes are definitely too huge :)

    52. Thankyou soo much, I have a lot of mnf sized leggings.

    53. I initially wanted to get a newer body for my Queena, but after she arrived, I decided I don't think I'd want a chest any smaller around than hers. The K-05 body isn't quite as drastically thin as the others. I don't know how it compares to the K-01 body, though.

beatnik and Bambi, your Barbaras are SO pretty! You must share them more often! :D

    54. thats what I'm worried about. I really love the older body, but I love everything about the new body but the small chest piece. If only it have been a bit wider like the older body I would be in total love. At least the event goes for a while, I just wish there was a way to play with them in real life. I hope I don't get one then not like it. I've been trolling Flickr and everywhere looking at photos to help decide.

    55. I posted pics here of my Colins head on the DZ B45-014 body. I think the portions are perfect, but you would need to sand the neck to be thinner in order to get the head to sit right. I think the older head molds are bigger than the newer molds.

    56. thanks guys. i have become a little addicted to DC dolls. i love how they are so different. Im thinking of get one of the new bodies, I can't decide Agatha, Delia or Lydia?

Beansproutmomo i love your concept design. i look forward to seeing her.

    57. Heh, while I'm glad I stocked up on leggings in that case, I doubt I'll use them with my centaur. haha
Probably just stick with tops and flowy hi-lo dresses I want to make.

I wonder if DC will release a hip piece for the new centaurs to convert to 2-legs...

weird-doll-grl, Best of luck deciding!! :D It's all about personal taste~
Thank you as well for the compliment ^_^

    58. Hi everyone!! I'm super bummed here about the k-08 DC body

The joints will pop out of the sockets all the time, the knees pop out, the elbows... How the hell do I fix this? I tried hotglue sueding but although the friction improved they still pop out like a nightmare, I restrung the doll at least 5 times, made the elastic tight, moderate, loose.. and it just won't stop popping out. Currently my doll is loosely strung and although it prevents A BIT the popping out of sockets he just cant hold any pose now, at all.. I love the body but it's so horribly engineered..

Can anyone help me out here?? :( I really don't want to just have to buy another body

    59. I can't help, but I'm having a bit of a problem with the right ankles on my Brand new DC kid 01 bodies. They keep popping out sideways and twisting all around. Even if I take a lot of time to carefully align the joint, as soon as I move it, it pops out at a weird angle. This is happening to both of my new bodies.
