I have recently welcomed home another beloved bjd from Doll Chateau – Phoenix. Ever since I got him, I’ve been tempted to do a review on his body type but never got round to it because I was quite busy these days but here I am! First of, Kid line Body number 12 is a compatible type with K body 11 (male and female version), they are much more lanky than the K body 1&2 (and those were already lanky as heck compared to standard commercial 1/4 size). I will discuss further more into the differences as well as adding my own feedback on it according to the following criteria: 1. Size and aesthetic 2. Posability and Stability 3. Weight and restring matter 4. Price 1. Size and aesthetic First of, you already knew K body 02 is lanky, slim and much skinnier compared to commercial 1/4 scale bjds. K body 12, however, is even more lanky. The construct of this body is very much similar to 90s Japanese anime body style, tall, slim, extremely lanky arms and legs yet broad shoulders. K body 12 is just a tad bit taller than K body 02, standing 50,5cm including head while K body 02 is around 44cm including head. The weight of the body is similar nonetheless, but the lankiness makes K body 12 appears light-weight. K body 12’s got broader shoulder compared to K body 02, in fact, a rather “model” type of body with built, fit top, tight waist and long legs. Aesthetic wise, K body 12 is not for the cute look as they are EXTREMELY HARD to style. As I’m writing this, my K body 02 deer boys Amos and Lucas are chilling right beside me on the working desk while my son Felix is still in his box, naked as heck because I haven’t even been able to wrap my head around what on earth to dress him in. Average 1/4 clothing fits on K body 02, not much of a hassel when it came to clothing, commercial size pants might be a bit loose on them, but overall would still do, but K body 12 won’t settle down for any “basic” 1/4 style clothing. For scale, K body 12 arm’s length is 18cm, 3cm longer than K body 02, hence making 1/4 size clothing looks small on them, even if they are skinnier. If you are planning on this body, all clothing is expected to be tailored for them, so brace yourself on outfit budget. 2. Posability and Stability I’m glad to bring one great news: both bodies stand solid without help, no problem in standing them. All my boys stand up real nice right out of the box, not much of a fight. I do believe that once the string loosen, K body 12 might performs worse because they have the tiny extra joints that don’t really seems to be able to support their weight, but restringing is easy, so in terms of stability – 10/10. Posability however, K body 12 does better, obviously because they are supported with extra joints and half-jointed hands, overall just reached positions that K body 02 could not, thus, I gave K body 12 8/10 and K body 02 7/10. 3. Weight and restring matter. As I stated previously, they weighed the same, but half-jointed hands and extra joints could possibly turn into a pain in the a** real quick. The fingers of K body 12 are extremely thin, if it wasn’t because I have them and they don’t break easily as I thought they were, I would probably have a heart attack everytime I dress them. That said, the chances of breaking and chipping those tiny fingers and extra joints is low, but never zero, so it would take extra care to work with K body 12 whereas with K body 02 I handle them like a mother of literal 4 handling her 5th baby. Restringing K body 02 is very easy, down to basic steps, everybody can do it (HEY, I know what you might be thinking now, restringing is hard? I know, but if me – a total clumsy person could do it, so can you). K body 12 could be troublesome because of the jointed hands, but to be honest, the biggest problem about restringing these bad boys are the size of the holes inside their resin parts. THEY ARE SMALL AS HECK. You would need proper tools, the string on string method doesn’t cut the check with these bodies. 4. Price K body 12 is more expensive, just like K body 11, they are made with more parts, hence the higher price. K body 02 retails for $240 and K body 12 retails for $295. Half jointed hands could be purchased seperatedly but I must warn you those half-jointed hands do not go along with K body 01&02, they are to long and skinny, the combination of them wouuld be uncanny and sloppy. Conclusion I love both of the body type. If there is an advice I could give, I would highly recommend you to take a look over these bullet points before deciding on which of the body you should buy. – Budget – Maintaince – Aesthetic K body 12 is picky, it requires more care to maintain and it doesn’t fit cute style. It’s also pricy to maintain since their clothes need to be made to their size as well. That’s everything about it, I hope this post helps you in your journey! Good bye and thank you for reading.
Great review! Can confirm, the K12 body is an odd duck, but mine luckily isn't the sort to wear much! The posing is a lot of fun. I likewise can't imagine fiddling sleeves over the fingers though. I think when I have to restring those someday, I will be using stretchy jewelry filament, and involving a needle or two to thread things properly.
