Doll character created after someone you know

Jul 22, 2017

    1. Have you ever created a doll character based off of someone you know living or dead, what made you want to choose that person for your character?

    2. I do have a girl named after and loosely modeled after my sister. I really feel that if my big sister were still here she would have been a huge partner in my doll obsession, and having her represented in doll form kind of includes her in absentia as it were.

    3. I haven't made a doll fully based on anyone I know, but I have named them after family/friends and given them some of the same traits. No particular reason, other than choosing things I like about people to represent in my characters. For example, Opaline is loosely modeled after my ex-girlfriend, but she's not a resin replica of her.

    4. In high school, my brother was told he wasn't going to make it past 18 due to various health issues regarding his heart. A huge coping method for me (with his permission) was to make a character based off him. It was a really amazing experience for me and he loved listening to my roleplays with his character-sake.
Fortunately, he ended up getting a lifesaving transplant, but has sense moved to another country and it's been several years since I've seen him, several more if I ever get to again. He's let me keep the character (who's mostly taken on a life of his own in the years I've had him). I recently expressed interest in shelling him and others from that roleplay into dolls, he's absolutely thrilled with the idea and gets super excited when I talk to him about my plans.
He's even been helping me decide on sculpts for him(self)

    5. I have one doll that`s based, not off someone I know, exactly, but after a character a friend created.

    6. I haven't actually done, but I have a friend who really resembles a couple different sculpts, depending on the angle, so I've thought about it just because the likeness would be so good. But I dismissed the thought because I think it would be a bit weird to have her sitting on my shelf...

I do think that dolls to represent family members can be very sweet, though!

    7. The one doll I have I actually based the look on how I dress and like to look, and one of my other characters I haven't shelled yet's clothes and style was inspired by a friend of mine, they even have the same hair color, same eye color, and a similar personality.

    8. My LLT Roderich/Granado Female Nuevo hybrid Suri is inspired by two people--one a friend from college, and another young kid I met through lab. She looks a lot like both of them (but she has eyes more like the kid from lab), but I know the friend from college a lot better, so she acts more like her.

The kid from lab is who encouraged me to pursue eye/brain developmental genetics, so I'm pretty attached to Suri. The friend kept me sane through my daily Gen Chem bio marathon. (I have another friend who's entered into my phone with the last name "double potions," because we had two Gen Chem courses (Gen Chem and Gen Chem Lab back to back)).
