DOLL BOXES I am running low on them. I don't know what else to use to ship. I remember reading about using old priority mail boxes that fit if you tape a bunch together................but it seems they no longer have that size at usps? Help please? Thanks
I use the boxes that the dolls originally came in, but if you don't have any, then you can always find boxes that you can reuse in dumpsters behind strip malls. I've found some great boxes in the Petco dumpster.
I buy boxes at the Container Store to ship dolls in. They're not expensive. I buy a box that will fit into a bigger box, then put packing material between them to make sure nothing gets broken.
They no longer have the old box of that size. I use the 12 x 12 x 8 stacked together to ship but it's got alot of room inside so you'll need alot of stuffing. Other then that, you can use the priority mail flat rate boxes, the small one which is 11 x 8.5 x 5.5 fits much better. However, you will have to turn the box inside out because they don't allow you to use flate rate boxes for regular priority mail shipping.
Usually they have printing on the inside too saying what boxes they are on the outside. The last few I had had that. If you work somewhere that gets lots of things in boxes, grab a few and use them. Just tape them together.
If by chance the post office opens the boxes, or they recognize them as inside out priority mail boxes, they will send it back to you for additional shipping or repacking. This happened to me once and I ended up having to pay for shipping twice.
so... I purchase a lot of heads and bodies separately- bodies which come to me without the original company box---what is an alternative to storing the dolls?
Why would you want to store your dolls away?! I have all my dolls on my bookshelf in my room! I love to look at them and repose them everyday. I would never dream of keeping them in a box all the time!
you wanna sell me a couple of your SD doll boxes?. i don't have the space to display them-and i'm paranoid about getting them dirty
I can check to see if I can part with any. Do you need the inner box with the pillow, the outer box, or both?
Hi! I'm not a big seller, I'm actually a terrible packrat, but awhile back I got a Soom Onyx, and sold her off within a few days of getting her - I still had the boxes she came to me in (Inner decorative, outer cardboard) so I shipped her out in that. Well, I have had two dolls come in just a paper wrapped normal box, and one was quite messed up (she also had little packing inside...gr) when I got them second hand. I - personally - like to keep the integrity of my boxes, so I have to ask, Where do you get boxes large enough to put a doll box inside? SD sized boxes? How expensive are they? I really would much prefer to ship them out with a cardboard box as it is safer, but because I do not keep the cardboard ones for storage reasons, I have nothing to ship the inner decorative box in. Thanks!
Postal Annex x.x Used to be one by the Vons in La Mesa, but they do not have them here in Reno -- any other place maybe? The regular post office doesn't appear to have any on display.
oh you used to live around san diego eh? hehe thats where i get'em you could also try looking on usps.com, the post office said you can order some there and they'll send to you for free, i believe... hope that helps too !
If you're going to use Priority Mail, you could build your own box. The number 7 boxes, open with the flaps out, are about 20 inches long. Tape two together and you'd have a rather long Priority Mail box. You can order boxes and things from the USPS site, most of which is free. You could also go to a store (like Wal-mart or something) and ask them if they have any large shipping boxes they don't need. They're probably just going to throw the boxes, that their inventory comes in, away. If all else fails, you could go dumpster diving. A lot of stores have large dumpsters out back where they throw the boxes away. Hope this helps. ^^
Yup, I used to sell on-line a lot (not dolls) and never had to buy any boxes-- I was buliding my own with everything that was handy If you don't have any boxes after shoes/AGD/etc, -- as LupusDarkmoon said -- you can just go to a store and ask. My grandfather does that all the time-- they really don't need all those boxes.
Actually, at Walmart we crush those boxes and ship them off for recycling ^^. But yes, just ask any associate for boxes and they SHOULD be more than happy to get some for ya.
if you have a UPS store, they sell boxes, i use them a lot to ship dolls if i don't have one, also "The Container Store" has boxes and packing materials.
I had someone tape together 3 10x10 boxes and mail the doll that way, it worked good and my dolly was extra protected XD they had so many pillows inside that box I thought I would never get to my doll
I decided to purchase some boxes from their website, it should make shipping much easier. Also, I must ask how much does shipping a doll usually cost if you go that method? Full SD Sized doll in box, etc. It seems like it'd be expensive, plus if you use their boxes for something else do they not mind?
shipping a doll from the USPS, within the US costs about $30-$40 depending on the weight and size of box, International shipping will cost $50-$60 depending on the same things, insurance over $100 is usually extra. it could be more....
Hi All, I have received several dolls lately whose shippers were in terrible condition. Since these will all get new faceups and be for sale, I would like to have fresh new shippers for them. but after several hours online, I have been unable to find boxes in my town or to order that won't cost me a bunch (and are sold in a 20 box minimum). So does anyone have a source for boxes about 26"x10"x10" or a little larger? I would really appreciate the information! TIA, Patricia in CO
My local UPS store had some 27x12x10 boxes, perfect for SDs once you add the bubblewrap and everything. Though the box was kind of expensive at $6. Have you tried there? Their website didn't list them, but the local store had them. They also had some boxes perfect for MSDs.
Those would be great--I would buy them all, but I tried my UPS store first, and they had only some 36x12x12 boxes. I like using a box that hugs the inner one, plus doesn't bump the doll up into the next shipping category because of box size. Thanks for the tip-- I will try other UPS stores now!
Well, yes, thanks, that's a last resort, of course. It won't look as nice, but in a pinch, I will have to do that. At least the box would be new! The last box I received from a US trade was a 27x11x9, so I know someone has this size somewhere.
* issue solved* Thank you everyone Hey guys, Im new to this hobby and ordered way too many dolls too quick. Im looking to sell a few of them with their original packaging (company box) but no longer have the plain shipping box at home. Does anyone have any idea where to get boxes from when they are selling their dolls? Thanks heaps ~
Hi, i tend to use any box i can get my hands on either from a shop or supermarket(the corner shop is usually happy to give me one) Failing that in th euk th epost office sells boxes. And then i just make sure that when i put the smaller box in it is well padded with either bubble wrap or newspaper just so it dont move about inside, and wrap and tape well with lots of brown tape . Hope this helps
Great idea, hopefully I can find boxes big enough to fit SD doll box, else I might have a look online. Thank you I will make sure I put in heaps of stuffing in the box
If you want to save yourself and your buyer some money consider sending the dolls unstrung. Take the doll completely apart, wrap each piece in bubble wrap, and place it in a box. You get to buy a smaller box (saving you money) and smaller boxes are cheaper to ship (saving the buyer money).
Unfortunately, unstringing won't save you any money through Australia Post as they are weight based. I've had the same problems with finding a shipper box for my earlier dolls so now I save all my shipper boxes just in case. Aside from that, I work in a furniture store so I have been known to pilfer a box from a lamp table or bedside table, cut it down and build it back up to fit.
http://www.uline.com/BL_406/Long-Boxes Also try your local pack&mail store, or a U-Haul store or similar place that sells moving supplies. If necessary you can build a shipping box by cutting down a larger box.
Try a local packing store. If you don't know where one is try Walmart, Target, Jo-Annes, Michaels, places like that and either ask if they have any spare boxes you can have. Some places will let you take them from the back, the used empty ones anyway, without a care at all.
If you know of a store that sells posters, ask for a poster shipping box! I used to work in the mall and a FedEx or UPS poster shipping box is almost perfect for SD!
I am not ashamed to say that I dumpster dive outside local home stores and even my workplace for clean boxes. Usually, they just have an entire dumpster full of nice boxes and even packing material. Failing that though, I have bought boxes from box stores and office supply stores before, especially when I need a sturdy box for shipping overseas. Unstringing can still save you money on shipping with an entirely weight-based system, because it'll sometimes allow you to save on weight. I once had a package that was a little too awkward in size, so the weight of the items protecting the item added on a full extra pound to the total, even after I cut the box down. D:
I like Uline.com. You may also pick up from one of their distribution centers if you're close enough. They have all the sizes you would need.
Thank you but Im not good enough with the dolls yet to unstring them and if I bought a doll that camein peices I will freak...guess its only for the experienced members
