I've been searching around for a bit, but no luck. I've seen a lot of stunning bjd on IG wearing hanfu (historical Chinese garments, to summarize it as much as possible) and I know some stores that sell them, but I'd like to make them myself because I like sewing too. Anyone know of any sources? I'd accept them in Chinese too. Thanks!
there are a good number of images in google search of {hanfu sewing pattern} but you'd have to adjust them to your needs. hanfu sewing pattern - Google Search the above search aslo included included a youtube video of someone doing a narration/guide of doing one for a bjd
There are a lot on Taobao if you are fine with ordering there? Search 古装 bjd then filter the price from the lowest first
Actually I've made my own for 70cm SD male. Frankly it is quite easy because it's loose fitted except the belt. Do you have any pattern already that fits or a piece of clothing you can use as the base pattern? I'd be happy to help giving pattern drawing tips for this. Hit me up with a private message.
This is a pretty good basic set of patterning instructions... Hanfu Pattern Making: (Imperial): DUONG, TT: 9798634659794: Amazon.com: Books
I've seen that book recommended for adult patterns! But I am very bad at drawing from scratch and switching sizes (or I should say, I'm very bad at math), that's why I usually buy premade patterns. My bodice blocks would make anyone cry haha I'm insecure about it
For doll sizes? I've done a bunch of stuff, but never anything that had a tight neckline, more lolita dresses and also western garments in general. I've actually never done pants for example, but I do have a bathrobe pattern. I see patterns like this https://i.pinimg.com/600x315/13/a7/fb/13a7fb2958d530f901944910edad1c90.jpg and feel incredibly confused about how it's supposed to come together or how the pieces look separately. It's probably because I've never handled a hanfu myself and only saw people wear them. I looked up your dolls profile, did you make the garments for your Lucifer? they look stunning!
omg you're right, just spotted it! I kept making searches that included bjd and I just kept seeing fullsets and dressing tutorials for them, Thanks!
Ah! That does look a little confusing. It all depends on the type of hanfu you want to make. Some are much easier haha. I've seen 1/3 hanfu dresses on aliexpress as well that belong to Chinese fashion dolls i think. You could buy one of those to copy the pattern till too. And yes, i made the outfit for my Lucifer, thanx! Also for my other Ringdoll, migidoll, and Dollbom. I used the fullset clothing I had for my Ringdolls as a pattern base to alter. For the girl clothes I used the paper tape method.
@varebanos I'm not sure if this technique would work for you, but I remember reading somewhere about someone who used a photocopier (with the correct % scale setting used to "shrink" the pattern) to approximate uncle and 1/3 size doll clothes. It might take some experimentation before you get the correct % settings, but at least you won't have to do any math?
Lomi/Myuuchan has a hanfu pattern for nYID iplehouse dolls on her site (and a youtube video too showing how to put it together!) : Sewing Patterns for Ball-Jointed Dolls her patterns and videos are super helpful - i havent made the hanfu specifically yet but have made and resized some of her other patterns for my dolls (namely the big iplehouse patterns to minifee/model delf size, etc) with some luck and tailoring. I'm terrible at math as well, but so far resizing has been going good haha What kind of doll is it, and what specific style of hanfu are you going for? I was doing some similar research a while ago so i might be able to pull some of that back up!
If you can drop a bit of cash, Emilysdollfashion on Aliexpress sells kits that have the pattern and the necessary materials. They offer a variety of sizes, and send you a pdf with instructions. I've not regretted buying from them so far (I think I only got some mild puzzlement over their kimono pattern, but still figured it out in the end). It is not cheap (about 40euros per kit, a little more for more complex projects) but the quality is worth it, and the patterns can be reused with other fabrics (or modified if you want something a little different)
