DOD Shall--mixed feelings about her and DOD in general

Mar 18, 2006

    1. I am a bit disappointed in my Shall--I had to post. I finally opened the box (she's been sitting here for three weeks unopened) and she is not completely what I had hoped for. I can rescue her, but for the price I paid and the long wait I expected her to be perfect. The torso resin looks darker than the limbs and the head--is this because it's more solid? One arm is completely unsanded and the ball joints aren't sanded at all. The eyes are cheap acrylic in a muddy shade of green. I know they stated the eyes would be different, but that's smarmy in the first place. To show gorgeous glass eyes and substitute cheap acrylic ones is bait and switch, especially if you don't show the cheap plastic eyes you intend to put in the doll. The nose is a bit odd too, but I can modify that as well.

Comparing her to my Rainy girls--well, I much prefer the service and quality control of Elf Doll. If they can do it--why can't DOD?? Elf doll seems to have their act together. I like the pinkish tone of DOD, and her body sculpt which is gorgeous, she'll make a great delicate pale blonde. I had planned on ordering some DOD kids, (Hoo and Si as a girl) but I'm hesitant now. I'll have to see how the seam sanding experience goes. I didn't realize how rough these seams were going to be! I just got my Volks Yuki and he only needs a little work on his hands, and he has just very fine lines, not huge crack like seams.

I know I can turn her into a lovely doll, but I was just so shocked to see an entire arm unfinished. It's so unprofessional--I mean it's there staring at you as you package the doll--how can anyone feel happy about sending her out in that state? Like me selling a dress unhemmed. I just don't get it.

I'm working on her this week and will post the pics of her finished next week--unlike any Shall you've seen before.

Sorry to gripe--I know DOD has potential, but it's the little details that make an ordinary product a superior one. I do appreciate fine things and notice the difference.

    2. I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed in your purchase, but:

      1) Maybe the resin color difference is just with your doll. I received my Camine 2 or 3 weeks ago and he doesn't have this problem. Yes, the face is a bit darker than the body but that's because it's blushed.
      2) DOD dolls don't come sanded anymore. They haven't since the beginning of the year. It looked to me like only parts of my doll were unsanded, but he just had very, VERY faint seams (couldn't even see them in some places).
      3) They tell you on the site that your doll will come with random acrylic eyes. They tell you up front that all you can get is acrylic- they won't substitute with glass even if you go out of your way and request. What the picture shows you is irrelevent- you need to read the fine print.

I don't mean to sound standoffish, and I hope I don't, but since we're all speaking our minds here...

    3. I don't know if I do actually get what you mean. But if it's the sadning part, DOD does not do seam sanding service anymore. They used to do it for free but it took them a long them and soon people began to flood them with mails asking them to ship out faster. Thus they made an announcement that they won't sand the seams.

My Camine had unsanded seams too, and I just sanded his arms myself today. he had some sort of crack-like seams too on one arm, but the other was ok.

Understand it is disappointing, but take sanding your girl as some sort of bonding? I treated mine like it was. :sweat

      edit: missing info

    4. I'm surprised that her parts are different shades. Could you post pictures please?

And as it was stated, DOD doesn't sand seams anymore. At this point, one should expext a doll with seams. Maybe you should be pleased that they even bothered to sand parts of your doll at all? Unless it's like Hopelessfangirl said, and the seams are just so faint you didn't notice them o.o

Eyes are easily to replace. At least they're not glued in or something...
Besides, they show different colored eyes in all the DOCs and you don't even know what you get with them.

Sorry you're unsatisfied, but at least you're going to fix her :/

    5. Hm, I'm sorry you are disapointed with your Shall....
About the resin color, could you take some pics? I think you should tell DOD this problem 'cause I have a Shall and my friend has a Lahoo and none of us had this problem.
About the seems, they stated on the website that they'd not sand the seems even in the previous orders. We had a big discussion about it, and DOD did not change their mind. The only dolls they sanded were the fullset ones.
And about the eyes, it is on their website that DOT dolls come with acrylic eyes. In the promotional pics they are not with glass eyes, I think, they are with urethane (did I write it right? i don't remember how it is spelled.), but in the website it is written that they come with acrylic eyes.

    6. My Shall arrived yesterday and I was all set not to like her--in fact had posted a feeler to see if anyone would be interested in her--and had quite a bit of interest.

However, when she got here, I was pleasantly surprised. There is no color variation that I can see--other than the blushing on the face, of course. Her resin is smooth. The seams on my girl aren't particularly noticeable or rough. Her eyes are a green that is attractive to me. I'm more than satisfied.

And she poses like a DREAM.

I do agree that DOD's customer service is WAY more difficult and slow. I had trouble figuring out how to pay and who to pay (I think they have made the information easier to find on the website since then) and paid the wrong e-mail address. By the time it was corrected, my order was in "cancel order." However, after a couple of frantic e-mails, they replied and were able to complete my order manually--the website continued to list it as cancel order.

    7. I have mixed feelings about DOD too. Their dolls are gorgeous but it feels like such a hassle buying from them. All these stories about things going wrong makes me really worried to buy from them. I got my Too and Bee-A before all the issues started and I have plans to buy a Wi and a Mir (luckily I was about to buy the U I wanted from someone here and he looks fine) but it scares me to send them so much money and then something wrong happening with it, only for them to blame it on new employees (not saying this always happens but it feels like that's said a lot). I even started looking at other dolls to replace the characters for my Wi and Mir. -_-

    8. My sister just ordered her Camine with no problems at all.We had our order confirmed the same day and the payment the next day. Also from the way they phrased the email,it looks like he will be arriving alot sooner than six weeks, perhaps 3 or 4 weeks.About the resin difference, perhaps the torso was cast form a different batch of resin? That would account for the color diffence because it's really hard to keep color consistent between batches like dye lots with yarn ya know? They also might have been trying to train their new employees at the time too since her casting might have been within that timeframe. If you blush the torso with a little white you'll probably never notice the difference.Good luck!I hope you learn to love her even with her quirks!:3nodding: :daisy

    9. Wow, i'm so sorry. Lets see pictures? I got my Shall 3 days ago and was really worried when i opened her because I had heard so many problems and dissappointments about her. But mine came out perfect. The only thing she has is parting lines that you can see if you really look for. But I wasn't disappointed in the acrylic eyes, i think they're gorgeous. If you look at them in dim light, they don't look as lovely, was the room dark? From what i understand, DoD has been slacking on a buncha people.

    10. I'm sorry that you're dissapointed but other than the different coloured resin all of these things seem to be things that DOD already informed you that would be there (the sanding, the acrylic eyes.)

True, DOD don't show the eyes that the doll will be getting and I agree that's one thing that they probably should do. However, it's easy enough to go to any of the shall arrival posts in the gallery to see what eyes she would be coming with.

Since only one arm was unsanded I assume that the resin difference is due to the torso being from a different batch of resin. This is something you can and should take up with DOD if it's bothering you.

I hope you end up happy with your doll. =)

    11. Trying to post replies but cannot seem to.

      Lisa

    12. Some people seem to have replying problems too. o__o

    13. I don't think it's "unprofessional" for them to send a doll out unsanded, especially since

1.) DOD states on their site that they are no longer sanding dolls
2.) The reason they stopped sanding because everyone was complaining about the wait being too long and getting really mean about it
3.) It was a free service in the first place

Also, I understand it was only one arm that was unsanded? Some people have the whole doll unsanded. You only have to sand one arm (if I understood your post correctly, I'm not sure if I did, if not I apologize).

I also don't understand how it's "swarmy" to subsititute eyes. The Shall in the picture is not *supposed* to be exactly what you're getting, it's just showing the headmold off with makeup and clothes so you know what it looks like. DOD states that you won't get those eyes right on the site, and I don't really think that's an issue =/

The different colored torso, though, is something I haven't heard of. Other dolls are not like that. You should email DOD with pictures, that's a problem they should fix.

    14. If you look at the pages for where they sell bodies only (Both DOT and DOC are the same description) it states that the resin may differ in places due to mixture, and you should be prepared for that.

If she's going to be clothes, it won't matter anyway. And like everyone else has said, you only have one arm to sand.

MY twins took them three weeks, which was a pleasant surprise, and I can't fault them (Yet...I still have to retrieve my dolls from the PO)

ON some pages it states the dolls come with their special eyes shown in photos, but Im certain thats the Fullset versions. Normal dolls come with the acrylic eyes. And acrylic eyes arent THAT cheap.

    15. Woo hoooooo!!! Hey everybody! Let's take the side of the company! That way, they can continue to to crappy work, without feeling bad about it! Screw the customer!

Really, people. Do you think defending the company will get you any status points with them? They could really care less, I'm sure. The only thing they get out of this, is the assurance that they can continue to do a shoddy job, and get good money for doing such.

DOD used to do a much better job on their dolls. The resin colors were dang near all the time the same.

This person was disappointed. And if all you can do is defend the company for how much that their service and quality has gone down, then maybe you all should start a thread about how great they are, and how you don't mind that they bumped up the price of their dolls, but cut the service, and quality.

This is her thread, and she is disappointed. With the resin colors, and what seems to be a mostly finished doll they had lying around, and decided to send out for whatever reason. Probably because they were being lazy.

    16. I'm not defending DOD. I'm stating my opinion in a non-sarcastic, non-insulting way. I don't see how that's a problem.

Maybe it's actually helpful to the original poster to see the problem from another point of view. Maybe they won't be so dissapointed that one arm is unsanded if they think, "at least the rest of the doll was sanded." I don't know.

If the OP posted here, they obviously expected feedback. No point in posting in a forum otherwise. I do understand their dissapointment and I wasn't faulting them for it, I was just trying to give another perspective.

Also, they "bumped the price" because of the value of the USD going down. It had nothing to do with them, other companies had to do the same thing.

    17. edit: Really don't want to look as if we're defending DOD cos we're not. Hope DOD will rectify the wrongs of your Shall. Let us know how it turns out. ^_^

    18. You are still defending the company. And also, if you were to read the replies. Many have already said what you did. You don't need to re-write what was already posted. It comes across as straight out belittling.

And yes. The dollar went down for that price, there still is NO excuse for cutting the quality the USED to have, and being lazy.

There have been numerous incidents lately with DOD, and I really wish people would just accept that DOD is not what they used to be. Because until they do, DOD will feel that they can keep getting away with the crappy jobs they have been doing on dolls, lately.

    19. I always read all replies before posting, and I wasn't trying to belittle anyone. I'm not a snarky person and wouldn't try to do that to a random person that seems quite nice.

But obviously you didn't read my reply, or else you would have seen that I said:

As you can see, I was of the opinion that DOD should fix/replace the discoloured resin part because that isn't right. I'll be the first to admit that DOD has had major issues lately, ever since the DOTs came out in October.

Please stop making assumptions about my motives and my beliefs.

    20. My first post was not directed just at you, to start. My second post, again, was not directed just at you. Two people replied.

Now because this post is to you, had you read the other posts, again. There were people who had already said the same thing. So why bother retyping it all? I'm sure she got the point the first time. ^^

You really need to keep in mind that not all things are directed right at you. Please stop making assumptions. Especially direct personal ones.

    21. I apologize to the original poster for this disagreement on their topic. I will not carry it any further as I can see this topic is heading in the "locked" direction and am going to nip it in the bud right now.

I hope, LisaMarie, that you get everything worked out with your doll, and I'm sorry about your dissapointment.

I will not reply again on this topic.

EDIT: (because I promised not to reply again xD; ) I also didn't realize she was from the earlier order period -- now I agree she should have been sanded. I apologize for that misunderstanding.

    22. i thought Shall *was* supposed to come with glass eyes.... those green glass "only for Shall" eyes? did they only recently change it to acrylic? or was the glass only for the FS?

LisaMarie, i'm so sorry you aren't happy with your girl. i have three DoD minis, and i adore them all--granted i got them secondhand so i didn't deal with DoD directly, but i'm surprised at the handful of complaints i have heard recently regarding their services. of all the dolls i've seen DoD has some of the most beautiful--it's disconcerting to see the decline in their service.

      best of luck!

    23. Exactly. I was surprised to read the replies in this thread. Especially the one telling it was her own d*rned fault for not reading the fine print. LOL!

If a person says they are not happy with their doll, I say it's a reason enough for the company to be concerned. They are selling dolls, for crissake, making them attractive to the customer is their number one priority.

And what's with the "company can do no wrong" attitude? This is not a cult following, people.

    24. This isn't about giving points to DOD o.o We're just pointing out that most of the problems she was disapointed with were things that were to be expected. DOD stated on their site that dolls would be sent with acrylic eyes, not glass...dolls are nolonger being sanded (only one arm...yay?[though why they couldn't just finish that arm is beside me >.>])...
All these things can be quite easily fixed, and it appears that she is planning to fix them.

Except for the resin discoloring...I'd still really like to see pictures. I don't think there is an excuse for that o.o

    25. LisaMarie,

I, for one, am glad you posted this account. I'm sorry, however, that your beautiful doll is not what you expected, and is unfinished with eyes that you don't like.

I've often looked at the DOTs and thought how wonderful they look. But, I've also heard about the horrors of the faceups, the air bubbles and other problems. As much as I think I'd love the doll, I've not gotten one.

So, I thank you for your honesty about your Shall, and I hope any of things you don't like about her, you can fix. I'd very much like to see pics, when you have her the way you want her. ^^

    26. UHHHH. If you're going to be making a $600 purchase I SURE HOPE you would read the fine print. (it's not even fine print, its regular sized print on the bottom of the picture)

Eyes are acrylic, NOT GLASS. Seams NOT SANDED. If is not DoD's fault if you did NOT read the entire description and got something other than what you THOUGHT would be coming.

HOWEVER, the problem with the resin match IS a problem. I have YET to see photographs, but if this is indeed the case, DoD NEEDS to replace the body with one that matches completely. It's unacceptable to send a doll out that does not match completely unless you are mixing and matching your own head and body, in which case, not all batches will be the same.

I'm sorry you did not like your doll. I would take a picture of the color mismatch and send it to DoD to either replace your body, refund you some money, or SOMETHING.

DoD's customer service does suck. It's hard for them to reply to emails, or even get make up orders right and it is UNACCEPTABLE. I like my DoT, but I will not buy from them again because I do not like the customer service. I would rather buy from LUTS, who I have had amazing customer service with, from past experiences.

HOWEVER, blaming the company for a customer not reading fully the description of the product is incorrect.

    27. Oh cmon people. For $500+ of doll, you expect the manufacture level to be up to standard. Simple as.
I've heard more complaints about DoD than I have compliments, in general. I don't own and DoD dolls myself, and at some time back I really wanted a Lahoo, but now I won't touch this company with a barge pole, even if I had a crazy amount of money.

Obviously my opinion is going to be a biased one (all opinions are biased), people are going to opt for their favourite company. But when you're not happy with the level of perfection on your doll from the beginning, there is something definatley not right. And we're not talking chump change when it comes to this beloved hobbie of ours.

I'm really sorry your Shall isn't living up to your expectations, but kudos to you for voicing your opinions here. I'm sure many buyers will appreciate it.

    28. Hello All,

My Shall was from the initial offering and sanding was included as stated on the order page. (I ordered the basic doll, no faceup, and yep, sanding was included) After two weeks it was no longer offered. My particular sales agreement did include sanding as part of the doll's price. It just took 4 1/2 months for her to arrive. And another 3 1/2 weeks for me to open the box. I had just moved and didn't want to open her up until I had everything in order. Minus one point on the sanding.

As far as resin differing, I think it would be best to assemble dolls from the same batch. It's not terribly off, but I can see the difference. Minus one point for color difference.

Now for the eyes. IMO, they should have a picture of Shall with the eyes she actually comes with and a caption that reads "This is what your doll will look like". Almost every other BJD company manages to do glass eyes. Color is usually random, but the eye quality you see is the eye quality you get. That's what I mean about smarmy. They're just too cheap to give you decent eyes. Minus one point to DOD for misleading images. I tried my Masterpiece agate eyes in her and oh my, what a difference!! She looks alive now! (Starting to fall in love...)

Regarding the nose--some have stated that it looks funny. I agree. I've given it some thought and I'm thinking about softening it a bit, rounding out the end somewhat. Also the nostrils are set fairly far back and far apart and aren't quite large enough for the rest of the nose. But, this is just my aesthetic take on the doll and her nose. Neither plus nor minus.

Her wig is lovely, and although too long for my taste is easily restyled and is a gorgeous color. I fiddle with all my wigs anyway. Plus one point.

Shall's skintone is a perfect pale pink. She'll look great in pale blonde, platinum blonde, ash and light brown wigs as well some tones of red. My Rainy girls are pretty golden, so they generally wear darker hair. To me, she just looks like a blonde. Plus one point. Reminds my of my middle daughter too.

She poses very well and can cross her legs! Her body is very long, delicate and graceful, and she has beautiful hands and feet. Plus 3 points.

She has wonderful head mobility! Plus one or two points.

Her face is very sweet and demure, and her shoulder, waist and bust proportions are excellent. She's stands up straight--this girl has excellent posture. Her back does not have an exaggerated arch. Something I thought I had noticed in the promo pics and she is exactly as I had hoped as far as body shape. I think she will do period costume very well. I adore period clothes and she will wear Nicole Kidman's hoopskirt look from Cold Mountain very well, and not be overwhelmed by it. She's got a long rib cage. Plus three points.

So, the plusses do outweigh the minuses. My frustration is more of an issue with DOD as far as customer service goes rather than the my doll. If I do order the little kids (Hoo and Si--as a girl) one day, at least now I know what to expct and it won't be such a shock when I open the box.

So, I am going to enjoy playing with her today and will take some pics of her with her new face tomorrow. I had planned to sell her, but I don't know if I can do that after all.

      Lisa

    29. Damn, I had NO IDEA you ordered BEFORE the period. I thought this was a recent purchase.

Then definately, your doll should have been sanded. You purchased it BEFORE the announcement (forgive me, I was under the impression this was a recent purchase. It was not stated you had waited 41/2 months and were part of the first order). I would email DoD and tell them so.

Yeah, their customer service BLOWS. I emailed them THREE TIMES to have Lahoo and Camine shipped together. They weren't. I emailed them THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES to have the address changed and BOTH dolls (shipped seperately) were shipped to the WRONG ADDRESS. Which is why I won't buy from DoD again. I had great experiences the first time, but my experience getting Camine just really rubbed me the wrong way.

However, it does say on the page :

Regardless of what other companies do, it is stated on the page that shall comes with acrylic eyes, not glass eyes. The glass eyes were for the limited edition fullset doll, which is where the pictures are from. I know FS LAhoo had glass eyes.

I am glad, that the good outweighs the bad. But definately email DoD about the sanding AND the skintone difference. If you paid for a doll and it should have been sanded (as per your agreement WHEN YOU PAID) your doll should have been sanded.

    30. Eeep! I didn't think so either. =/ No wonder the misunderstandings bout the sanding issues here. I certainly would agree their customer service is.. >.>

But I'm really glad you've begun to take a liking to her. DoTs are really lovely. =)

    31. Hi Dech,

I'm not going to bother emailing them, it's not like I'm going to send the doll back for one arm :) The sanding issue is over anyway--they don't do it anymore. I was just so...shocked when I opened the box! The resin matching isn't worth the hassle either. Blush is good.

I will send them a picture of my modified and dressed Shall in a lovely costume. Maybe they will get the hint and hire real faceup artsits. Gentle prodding and demonstration as to what this doll can be will probably be more effective than bitching.

I've been sewing and doing crafts for years. The initial shock has worn off and now I'm thinking...hmm, this isn't so bad, I can fix this.

I also feel this poor girl has not been shown to her potential. DOD has been of great disservice to their own doll. Their faceups haven't been that good and the acrylic eyes, with their pin-pointy pupils do not enhance her looks at all--she looks like she isn't all there. And the eyes can make or break a face. They are the window to the soul you know. DOD should consider how the doll is going to look when customer's post their own pics here and elsewhere. Often it's the customers "real pics" that really sell the doll. Those awful green eyes are not a selling point--they're a real detraction. It's in DOD's best interest to use better eyes.

Well, I've pondered this enough and am now off to play with my doll.

      Lisa

    32. As far as I know, the only DoTs that shipped with glass eyes were the tans. All the normal skin, fullset or not, came with acrylic. My fullset Shall came with the same muddy green acrylic eyes, whose color I found not to my taste, to put it as nicely as I can. (I know some people liked them.)

I did not have any of the other issues. Since she was fullset, she came sanded, her resin is beautiful, and her faceup looks just like the default in the promo pics on DoD. I did wait over 11 weeks for her to be delivered though. :/ But supposedly they are improving that turn around time.

    33. My apologies, then it must have been my tan camine that came with the glass eyes ( I totally forgot because I immediately changed his eyes to the green zouks I bought)

    34. I'm really quite astounded that people have had issues with D.O.Ds customer service. My sister ordered last week and they were very kind, courteous and prompt too.Maybe they have hired new customer service reps?:3nodding: I certainly hope they have because of all the complaints I've heard and one bad apple can spoil them all right?

    35. Whoa, I thoguht this was a recent purchase...and your doll took 4.5 months o.o... Oi. Then your Shall should have been sanded.

I'm glad your loving her though. Shall really is a great doll.

    36. Just passing through and wanted to say...

I did not like the acrylic eyes that my FS Lahoo came with back when I first got him, but that was alright because I had another pair of eyes bought especially for him already (they were acrylic too, but that's besides the point :D) I think the large dome of the eyes DOD sent made it so they didn't sit naturally in the eye wells of the head, so they just looked funny. I actually adore the eyes DOD did send, they're now in my CP Yder and look amazing, but it would have been nice if they had fit well with my Lahoo.

Glad your Shall is turning into someone you will love ~<3

    37. Oooh...I'm starting to get a bit nervous...I -just- ordered Sha three days ago. while I had my confirmation and payment confirmation in very quick order I did send an email to them asking a couple of questions...I wonder if it's because their English isn't good? Who knows...hopefully Shall will arrive on time and in good order... my first purchase...hope it goes well...I plan on buying new eyes for Sha though I think I'll be too scared to sand him down...

    38. I had trouble with DoD answering e-mails as well. They later claimed that they were unable to send to AOL, (amazingly, they sent that message to me at AOL!) And I continue to receive mail from them at AOL, though I also furnished them a Yahoo address.

Anyhow, most of my replies have come from this e-mail address: [email protected]. I don't think they list that address on their site. It certainly is possible that they don't have regular English speakers on staff and thus must wait for someone to translate, though I don't know that this is the case.

Remember to keep in mind the time difference--it may be a weekend for them when it is still Friday here or nighttime during our day.

Anyhow, they are notorious for being slow to answer. I would suggest e-mailing again in a few days if you don't hear.

    39. Sorry, dolls that are "multicolored" because of differing batches for each body-part, or dolls that are multicolored because the factory is "training new employees" are what we here in the old country call "factory seconds," and should be sold at a reduced price to offset those flaws.

The "bait and switch" issue regarding glass vs. acrylic eyes could instantly be solved by DoD taking the radical step of.... oh, I dunno, actually photographing the dolls with the eyes that they will come to the customer wearing? What is with this "here, look at these cool glass eyes, but nyah, nyah, nyah... *you* ain't getting them"? I noticed that myself on my infrequent visits to the site, and it didn't exactly make me think highly of the outfit.

Why can the eyes the customer will actually be getting, not be shown in the dolls? Can it be because the company *KNOWS* they're actually kinda substandard?

[and yes, my doll is wearing acrylic right this minute, so its not like I hate acrylic or anything - far from it.]

I know people love DoD and all, but gee - let's call shoddy business practices what they really are - shoddy.

    40. Hrmm I dunno if anyone has said this already, but I heard DOD recently hired a bunch of new people, and apparently they're all nooby. But everyone must start somewhere?
Just give them time, maybe they'll get better! And if you order from DOD again, perhaps you can tell them about your problems with your Shall, maybe they give you some compensation present? *_*' and pay extra close attention to your next doll? ~ - ' x ' - ~

    41. Ok, I don't think this has been said. -_-

DoD lists 'Random' Acrylic eyes for their Shall. Yes. Fact.
But SOKKUUU!!! so does Luts (granted, I only bothered checking the El page, so maybe the others don't?) , and Soom does as well.(although 'Soom' brand, not Acrylic. But still just as random).

I should point out, that other companies send 'random' wigs too, not the ones photographed. At least DoD sends the wig in the picture, or says no wig at all.

So it isn't JUST DoD that uses so called 'shoddy' photo vs. reality practices to sell their dolls.

As for the other issues: Those have been discussed. No need to repeat.

    42. Good point.

All companies everywhere, *stop* using different eyes and wigs in promo pictures other than what the customer will actually receive: that is treading on the far edge of ethical behavior and just generally isn't cool. [I am aware "basic" dolls often arrive unwigged and without eyes - I am not referring to this practice.]

And putting in teensy print "Ha ha ha, you won't be getting this here, so don't act surprised when you don't" on costumed/wigged dolls doesn't make it all ethically peachy-keen, either.

Cool. Let 'em start somewheres. We need more people working with resin. Just no new people on *my* $600 doll - and if they do create Frankendoll color-wise, I should get a discount for mismatched resin pieces. That seems fair to me.

Selling seconds that trainees worked on for full price isn't exactly what I'd call "ethical" either.

Wow, this forgiveness on this issue astounds me. Speaking in general, how would you feel if your car rolled off the assembly-line with each panel of the body sprayed a different shade of red? Would that be okay with you? Would you say "Eh... they have some newbs on the line... no big deal."? It damn sure wouldn't be okay with ME - that's a lot of money on the line.

Dolls are less money, true but they're not exactly $19.99 either. Demand quality and honesty from these companies!

    43. That's called business. Ever look at the package of a microwave meal? Notice how it's all fancy and pretty on the box? But it never looks like that when I take it out of the microwave. Things are played up for the ads; that's just the way it is.

I'm scared about the different-colored resins though. :ablink: Since my first BJD is coming from them.... But I can only hope for the best. And it was his little face I fell in love with anyway, so as long as there's nothing abhorrid with that (and how could there be? :3nodding: he's so cute~), I'll be happy.

    44. As someone who's casting... it's pure serendipity when you end up with a cast with small seams. It's just a natural part of casting complex parts. If you really like your elfdolls better, then maybe you should just sell your DOT and get another rainy doll? :3 It's important that you be happy with your doll and not come to resent it.

    45. Not really. Not on standard dolls. I can't speak for Volks or anything, but with the unlimited dolls from Custom House and Angel Region, the eyes are acrylic. And I seem to remember CP unlimited dolls coming with acrylic, but I don't know about that. There I can't speak from experience.

    46. I think Illusionss point is that if Elfdoll can manage to do a fantastic job of doll production for less money, than why can't DOD produce an average doll for more money? Yeah, I'm a Rainy Fan too. They're hard to beat--sanded seams, beautiful sculpts, glass eyes and quality wigs. What you see is what you get. Some companies are just run better than others and that's that, and defending shoddy business practices is ludicrous. So what if they've hired new help--that should never be noticeable to the customer. At Walgreen's, yeah, I can deal with a befuddled clerk, but for my 550.00 doll, no.

I still want the two little DOD kids one day, they are extremely cute, but it's my decison to deal with DOD again and it's going to be a lot of work to get them the way I like my dolls. But Shall wants some siblings.

Rainman has his act together--he communicates with his customers very well, and responds well to our issues, He has his Efdoll Club on his site and makes his own photostories with his Ryung, Soah and Wu, and fools around with his dolls like the rest of us. He posts to the Yahoo Ryung-Soah group. He's a kick, and hard not to love. That's part of it too--we all feel like we know him--he sends personal emails to memebers of the group too. There's such a connection to him as a person. All this and a fabulous product too. He also produces a wonderful line of clothing, but since I sew I don't buy it--but when I get my Wu, I will. Not into sewing for guys.

BTW, I just got Emma from Volks and she isn't sanded either, but the seams are hardly noticeable. Nothing like the San Andreas Fault Line running down Shall's arm. I love Emma--my second Volks. For me-the prettiest SD13 ever made. Kinda like these Volks Folks. She works out well as a little sister to Yuki.

I had a wonderful time sewing last week--finally! Off to list the outfits on ebay. Have a good weekend people. I will--my son is coming in from CA:D I haven't seen him since Christmas--he's probably half an inch taller by now! LOL! I hope not--he's already 6' 5". When do boys stop growing? I have an actual living Hound--kinda smirky, skinny and really tall.

    47. I don't know why everyone is so angry, my service with DoD was lovely! O___O!!

I hope new buyers aren't going to be put off! My DoT Sha came perfect, exactly as described, arrived VERY quickly, and I had absolutely NO PROBLEMS with the service. They were wonderful!

to LisaMarie: I am very sorry that you don't like your Shall!! ;____;! Yes, most of the things you don't like were already mentioned by DoD on their site, but that doesn't change the fact that you're disappointed! BJD's cost a LOT of money, and to get one and not be thrilled...must be very devastating. I hope you have better luck in the future!

    48. Keep in mind that this thread is over a year old^^ Much can change in terms of customer service and products in that time. :)
