Do your dolls have children?

Feb 18, 2020

    1. I’m not super deep into the story/character aspect of BJD, I have a preference towards physical customization, but I just find the idea of a doll family super cute! I’ve been looking for dolls that wouldn’t look wildly out of proportion that can work as toddlers/children to SD dolls. Does anyone have suggestions or examples from their own doll families?

    2. What i found in a similar search 50-58cm works well for teenagers to a 70-72cm dolls. it really all depends on the doll's sculpt/body and the age you are looking for. 1/4 size dolls with the right looks could be toddlers. Its a tricky thing but with enough effort and asking everyone for photo size comparisons :P It will work out pretty well. I know a few companies are starting to release chubbyish 1/4 size dolls at around 40 cm.

    3. Hello! I have a little BJD family, that is 2/3rds complete! I'm using a Yo-SD as my little one, but around age 7 he’ll become MSD.

I personally work off real world measurements for heights and convert then into 1/3rd scale/vice versa (so my 27cm boy would be 81cm irl and my 60cm girl is 180irl)

      • x 1
    4. I use yosd as children 6 and younger for my SD, and I have a 1/8 as a baby for one of my 60cm girls, though I want to reshell her baby as a yosd one day. Island Doll Bru's body is perfect for a baby for larger dolls (70cm or so) but the head is out of proportion so a different yosd hybrid would make it look better. My msd are supposed to be around 13 though in size comparison to many of my SD they're half their size so I don't photograph them together often.

      • x 1
    5. Some of mine do. I don't previously own any child dolls ( YO-SD) but I do have some teenagers and may end up shelling a dad or two.

      • x 1
    6. My incoming two are father and son!

I ordered Great Mentor Hui(68cm) from Ringdoll. He'll be the golden-eyed, silver haired war veteran who adopted a child he found.

Doll Chateau's Noah(45cm) (with Sharon's head) is that child. He's a blue fawn, so his deer body will be blue with white spots. He himself will
      Have silver hair as well.

    7. Super cool!! I have incoming Ringdoll Wo Long and I’ve been wanting to find him a daughter. I’m searching and keeping an eye out for anyone from 23~46 cm that I think fits. Looking forward to your father and son pair ;D

@Christina_Xx Good luck on the dad search if you do end up shelling one! (or two haha)

@Cap'n Hybrids are a good idea, I’ll definitely check those out, thanks!

@EmortalFreak I wouldn’t have thought to convert scales, but if I had a specific size in mind that’s really smart! Excited for the last third of your family ^*^

@Pooki Good call on the 1/4 scales! I’ve been eyeballing Loongsoul in particular because I’m in love with the child sized sculpts, if only I had better measurements to work with *_*

      on your doll families❤️.

    9. The central players of my doll crew are a nuclear family. ^_^ Even though I'm aiming to shell out my couple's fraternal twins as SDs and taller, the female twin has an MSD form because she appears as a child spirit in one storyline. Just to give a gist of the size differences, I've included a photo below. I did not include their other kid in the photo because he's shelled as a large LoongSoul and wouldn't be a good reference.

Left: Granado Michael on IMPLdoll Idolman FGB (70cm-ish)
Center: Iplehouse Scarlet on IMPLdoll Starwoman MGB (65cm)
      Right: Iplehouse JID Violet (43cm)

    10. Thanks a bunch for the size reference! They’re a lovely family <3

    11. None of my dolls have children. Even though all my dolls are old enough to have kids, I prefer no kids. I like keeping my girls as teenagers and early 20s.

    12. I have an Iplehouse SID (Barahan sculpt) who has a pair of BID twins (boy and girl Byuri sculpt), and the proportions are perfect for an adult with a couple of five or six year-olds. I think it's easiest if you work within one company, because they are designed to go well together - everything from the build of the body to the size of the head.

    13. I wish it were that easy~ It’s Ringdoll I’m working with and I still need to ask them about head measurements. If it weren’t for the wait times and lack of options, I’d love to go for another Ringdoll. I hope they come out with more tiny and 20cm sculpts ^*^. Not a fan of the current teen lineup either. As it is, I’m having fun in the search. I have a feeling this is going to be a long term quest until I see “the one.” I’ll be lucky if it’s RD again ;D

    14. Not yet but I plan to in the future, my SD girls are between 53-57cm (currently lol) I'm planning to get an MSD as a teenager I'm not sure what exact age yet I'm going to wait until I can see them together to gage what the age would be best, I'm hoping a little bit older maybe around 15, I'm hoping yo get both sculpts from Black Cherry :) this thread has been super helpful I've been a bit.worried about proportions looking a off. Good luck on your search, researching and looking into dolls is a lot of fun in it's self :) .

    15. None of mine do... unless you count Thranduil & Legolas, but they’re obviously not my characters!

    16. Nearly all of my dolls are children, but in terms of sizes that work well together as adult/toddler combinations, My SD-sized Elfdoll girl (eldest of my BJD siblings) works well with both Littefee (Yo-SD size) and Petite Ai (a tad bigger than Yo-SD)

Here she is with a LittleFee on her lap:

For older children DollsTown 5Year and 7Year are good sizes with SD sized adults

    17. Yup! Yasuo and Kohei (Soom York & 5th Motif Venitu) have Mutsuki (Feeple Cygne) and Akira and Kentarou (my friend's Ramcube Gaz & my Mbluedoll Laaon) have Naoya (Mbluedoll XiHyeon). (Naoya and Mutsuki are also best friends who grew up together :P ) That being said, Haru and Yukki (mbluedoll Taeee & Switch Seolrok somnia) are also slated to have a child eventually, in their story, but not in doll form as it doesn't match the timeline of the rest of the characters' doll forms.

The reason it works is because the "kids" are not too young. Mutsuki is 19 and Naoya is 17, their parents being in their 40s. I've also chosen relatively small SDs 50-60cm so that they still look ot fully developed next to the rest of the giants.. 65-78cm xD

      • x 1
    18. My Venitu Carol has a Dollshe Rosa (Tonya) as his child. I don't know the exact age of the kid even in my story yet, Dollshe sells her as a 6yo but although I have probably never seen a 6yo kid in my short adult age (at least knowing their age) and I can only google, I do have a feeling she is more like a 3 to 4 year old, at least in proportion with 70 cm dolls. She is chubby like a toddler too. But she has the most child-like features I have seen, including the chubby body, and there is no mistaking her as a MSD adult. My doll family is quite weird in proportions, as the mother and father are about 10 cm apart. I don't have a picture of them yet, as the little girl is still waiting for her eyes I ordered a few weeks ago, and I also need to sew some clothes for her. I'm dreaming of getting the Robin from Dollshe also one day, maybe as another dolls' child so she could have a friend.

    19. Not currently but sort of.

I’ve currently got plans for a family. Mom, dad, teen son and foster daughter/niece. (She’s technically mom’s niece, but they are raising her as their own. She will be the next doll I bring home.)

My first doll has a teen son and preschool daughter, but only the dad is currently shelled.

      • x 1
    20. Most of my couple dolls do. My adults tend to be 58 to 67 cm, SD size, and the children range from
msd to tiny to really tiny. Lots of offspring! Since people come in so many sizes and types, mine are
put together as families. Differences in type are just explained as the genetic lottery.

      • x 2
    21. I'm pretty sure Luts kid delfs are meant to be kids for SD sized dolls. They're 42-45 cm I think and are more child proportioned than regular msd dolls. The type 5 body is meant to be even more chubby and childish looking than the other body types.

      • x 1
    22. Luts Bay Delfs are MSD height with chubbier child-like proportions. (mine is a hybrid with an old Custom House head) and work well alongside SD sized dolls. As an example, here's a picture of my BabyDelf and my DollsTown 7Year girls with my husband's Limhwa Manu

    24. I only have one couple who is married in my group and they do have children.

it might be good to know that because I have a lot more realistic dolls than stylized, CP dolls in my collection are all demons. So this isn't quite as weird as it looks. XD

Mom and Dad (CP Breakaway and Serenade doll rabbit) are around 60cm, two of the kidlets are YO-sized (Soom heads on LTF bodies), one is a slim mini (Unoa) and the other is sort of in between. They also have a teeny bean that is a newborn, but it was unstrung at the time so no pics. I'm not sure how helpful this is, I don't really care about proportion with them. Generally I don't think 1/4 dolls are in scale with 1/3 dolls at all.

      • x 9
    25. I don’t particularly care too much about the whole scale either. The only thing I’m really particular about is probably just head size. Some variance is fine but if the circumference is a 20 cm next to a 12 cm... Well That family is gorgeous btw! If you don’t mind my asking, what sculpt is the newborn?

    26. It's not a BJD, it's a teeny little thing with no joints (just strung on arms and legs and head) that I got as present a while back because I thing about rabbit BJDs. It's very very small, not at all in scale with my 1/3 dolls...but it's a rabbit so I don't care lol
I still have its box, but I can't remember what it's called. When I go home tonight I can check.

    27. @VampireAngel13 Ahh bunnies I automatically default to thinking of those small critters you can find at Target, and now I feel like they’d make cute accessories to lil BJD

    28. Most of my BJDs are children and adolescents, and have no offspring. My family groups are made of siblings.

      • x 1
    29. My dolls Ilari and Emie are a dad and daughter. He's 60cm, my only 1/3 sized doll, and she's 43cm meant to be about 10 years old. She's a standard type MSD though so she looks pretty scrawny for a kid.

      • x 1
    30. haven't thought about giving them children ....maybe

      • x 1
    31. My dolls don't really have direct children, but Taras (DFH Shu Sha) is the descendent of Ilya (Ringdoll Aries) so they're distantly related.

    32. I think family groups of dolls are just adorable. But I that's not a direction I will go with any of my dolls. Too complicated for me unfortunately.

    33. Hello yes I have a family but not yet a father . Father is missing . I have minifees and pukifees and I am so much in love with them . Soon I will try to have and a flan for them .

    34. I have a Romeo X coming in to be the teenage son to my pair of 1/3's, and my fingers are crossed that even if they're different companies that the scale works out enough to not look too weird. My 1/6 boys look like toddlers when comparing sizes, so I might have to move them to a different shelf before it throws off my inner-storyline too badly XD

    35. I'm in the process of of creating uncle and niece dolls. I got the niece first, an MSD like most of my dolls. Finding an SD sculpt that would look ok next to an MSD portraying a middle schooler was a headache. This is the best I could manage:

    36. Character-wise, Deanna does... Doll-wise, I'd love to shell her adopted teen daughter, they'd be about the same height but a more youthful sculpt and faceup and I think it would work. I don't have plans to shell the kids she goes on to have when she settles down as an ex-adventurer, which saves me getting nitpicky about sculpts and scale of head-sizes with small dolls.

None of my other dolls have kids-- and my kid-like sculpts aren't child characters, though I've dressed them up that way before just for cuteness' sake. Vince makes a cute 'kid', but in his case he doesn't have parents.

    37. Genesis (5 Star SD Tumnus) and Dora Maude (Resinsoul SD Dai) have a little boy (5 Star YOSD Rex). They are the main doll family. My story centers around them.
I also have two other doll families with a child, plus a childless couple. My goal was always to have my dolls as couples in relationships. So far all of my SD size dolls except one are paired up with a partner. Two married couples with children, one unmarried couple with a child, and a lesbian couple who may decide to adopt if they stay together.

Those are just my SD size dolls. I have MSDs, but none of them really have back-stories and none of them are part of a family.

    38. Mine don’t have any kids, but they do have younger siblings! I collect mainly 1/4 slim msd female dolls, and 1/6 scale child-proportioned dolls work great as younger siblings for them. I imagine the bigger dolls to be in their early 20’s and the smaller dolls to 6-9 years old.

    39. Currently not, and all my characters are quite young, but I'd love to shell a teenage cousin for one of my dolls (she is Zaoll on Supia 60 body and the cousin would have Dollstown Elf body) and a mother for that cousin (not sure about body choice here since all my dolls are under 63cm and a woman with more mature body would be higher then everybody else).
As well as someone else in this thread, I convert height using 1/3 scale when I think about age. Well, this applies to realistic characters only, fantasy dolls can be of any age and size.

    40. Pardon my necro of an old thread!!

All my dolls are shelled as SD’s and as adults, so I’m no help on scale for children, but I do still have families.

Satan is the sole parent of Sin, who in return is the sole parent of Death. Sin came to be in a weird brain-child kind of way, much like Athena in Greek mythology—she was created at Satan’s first stand against God, when first he turned on his creator. She is Angelic from the waist up, and serpent from the waist down. The separation of death from her was an act of violence that I’ll vague up here (if you’re curious it’s canon to Paradise Lost book 2, so it’s not really a secret)—Satan is a Dollshe Rey Lewis on a Doll Family-A 75 cm body. Sin is an incoming Dollzone white snake. Death is a fairyland Halloween 2022 event head, for whom I will be procuring one of the doll chateau bodies with the engraving (I don’t care if it’s the male or the female, he’s not human, and Angel-gender is less about body.) Lucifera is based on the character from Spenser’s fairy queene and is the daughter of Lilith (Paradise Lost Eve gone rogue) and Satan. Lucifera is the fabled vampire queen, and looks a fair bit like her mother. She’s a magic Mirror Maeve SD sized, which shares one of the sculptors who made her mother (a Twigling ingenieuse—MM collabed with Twigling on her) but she’s tall like her dad (69 cm loongsoul, compared to 75cm Satan).

Next we have the Auratus family—I’m not even gonna list the sculpts for all the half-siblings, because Auratus could rival Zeus in creating babies with different mothers. Tbh I would feel safer alone with Zeus. The three that are biologically parent and children are Luna (Twigling Ylissande/iplehouse nyid body) and Aura (MDR Zuri, chocolate milk) and Amor (MDR Zuri/DDDY, strawberry/semi-white). I will never shell Auratus (the father), but if I did he’d be an IoS lacrimosa with a ganglier, taller body. He’d have to be like 80 cm tall.

Next is the Hell family, and oh boy, that’s a hell of a family line, where not everyone is shelled. Most of the entities are millenia old, with some of them being much younger, and some mortal parents mixed in somewhere. It starts with Liriel (iplehouse Carina/Soom Mecha Angel hybrid), who, with Asmodeus (not shelled) has Glasya (Amadiz Yolande/Soom vesuvia scorpion body). Glasya has a millenia-younger half-sister, by Asmodeus, Acyra (Soom Garrion/MtF loongsoul 73). She also has a half-sister by Liriel, kind of (a flesh golem made out of parts of you by your distraught lover is… kind of like having a child, right?) Abaddon (impl Vanessa fantasy body) her other parent is Ash (Twigling Pieta/soom id68/iplehosue hid girl small chest).

But Glasya also has kids. She has a daughter from when she was super young, with Levistus, named Azerin (bone lace Miss Orc/impl idol body). She has twins with an elvish woman, Azalea (Lillycat Lyse/doll chateau y-06) and Acacia (Twigling Gamine). Finally, sge has a son, who she believes to be dead (he’s not) who she believes was fathered by levistus (he’s was not. It was fierna) named Nirathos (Twigling Eloy/fifth Motif timeless body). Azerin was raised by Mephistopheles, as his daughter, and is an adoptive sister to Devotion (Twigling Oryx/impldoll 62 cm).

to make matters more complicated, Nira has a half brother, by Fierna and some mortal, Ikaros (not yet brought home, resinsoul Que), and a Half-sister by Fierna and a succubus, Jinx (Soom Breccia soul stealer). Fierna and Belial also have the most contentious custody agreement, and child support negotiation over their millenia-old Princess of hell, Dispira Justice (Amadiz Virginia/dollmore glamour Eve body). Nira’s partner, Zilvriia very nearly ended up consort to his uncle, who he is about a hundred years older than. Azerin has a half-sibling by Levistus named Geryon (tentatively, my Resinsoul/BBB charisma) who she has never met.

Believe it or not, the majority of my doll characters don’t have kids, it’s just that if the ones that do, there’s a lot of relationships. I left off aunts and uncles/siblings of parents, and people related through marriage (Ash has a brother who has a consort, Glasya, Nira, and Asmodeus have consorts, Acyra has a girlfriend).

    41. Volta has an excessive number of children and because of this, I will shell none of them. The one I'm much more interested in is shelling Liam's father, but that answers "do your dolls have parents" rather than if they have children.

      • x 3
    42. That is an easy question for me. Heck no because even I don’t have children and we don’t play family here.

      • x 2
    43. I have a few dolls that have parents. Mostly, the parents are off screen or just mentioned in passing when I am photographing my story. A few of my dolls have parents that are actually visible, and have slightly larger roles in the story. As the parents are 70+cm dolls I don't have a parent visible for every teen. I would run out of room and it would be expensive, but some parents just need to be in the story.

Here is Alice talking with her father Lucifer, she was upset in this picture and he is trying to find out what is wrong.

    44. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Yeah, get back to me in a few months about that. I wanted to photograph two sculpts together, but I'm not sure if that makes the adult one, her dad. And, the tiny sculpt should probably have a parent. I have not bought any related bjds, yet.

    45. Not at the moment, no, though I know better than to say "never ever." Almost none of my characters are in the mental/emotional state to be loving, supportive parents and I'm wholly disinterested in exploring toxic parent-child dynamics with my dolls. Besides, I have children of my own and I work with children. It's nice to have a break once in a while!

    46. I finally finished customizing my child and guardian pair. The proportions between the two don't quite fit what I was looking for, but searching for an adult doll that came close to my standards was tough. "Close enough" will do.

    47. I have a fairyland family with a minifee as the mother, littlefee as the elder sister and pukifee as the baby girl. I'm waiting for a 20cm body to get a 2 years old girl and a body for the father.

I'm trying to match proportion of irl's size so I multiply all my doll size by 4 and refered to children's waist curve For the age of the children. So my minifee is 165cm and the father (who will get a model delf body) is 180cm. Pukifee would be around 60cm, so she's a very little baby (about 3 or 4 month), Littlefee girl would be 105cm (around 4 or 5 years old).
A 20cm doll would be 80cm wich is the size of a 1,5 years old baby, and a 30cm would be 120cm irl wich is the size of a 7 years old kid.
